04 Hey you have learnt? Yes, that's true. Wow crazy you. Hello, this is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio, and I'm here with the Monotop's nice here at Download Festival. We are indeed, Yeah, yeah, we're the Monotobs at Download Festival. Yeah nice. How does it feel to be here at Download? Have you ever been here before? Never been and never never yeah never the drives to go. But now that we're here, you know, it's really know, it's really cool, cool vibe, right, yeah, definitely, lot a lot of cool people as well.

48 What's your favorite part so far? I know, I don't know. Probably the tissue just spends. So I've got Matt hay fever, so we're thinking that at the moment. For you, I feel for you. This is much time I've been able to breathe since January because I go and do all the festivals and all over the its the dust day fever, the festival does that stuff. My favorite place we changed once. We see a couple of bands in that. We're looking forward seeing the darkness and the pistols lay today. There you go. See the shirt? Yeah, yeah, well we'll go, We'll go and see them together. Oh yeah, well for sure, de let's do that. Yeah, so let's talk to about your music to listeners who have never heard you. How would you describe your music as the artists, not genre, but what you think of your music?

37 Well, I'd say it's all a strong sense and melody, strong sense and melody influenced by bands of the I know, people like Who, the Kinks, the Small Faces, the Jam, the Happy Mondays, the Liboutines and people like that. Really, I love that you mentioned bands like that, because I don't think there's any other band here I've interviewed that would mention those as as their influences. No, I guess we are right download, but what we do is quite a very different sort of music to what I supposed to getting played over here. But I guess was like A Green Night and the Pistols, and I suppose they're a bit closer. But I think our stuff has rooted more in like British stuff and more like the mod culture and the sort of sixties sing more than those bands really.

19 And then that's how I got started in music, as bands like that, like when I was a kid, and the Kings, yeah, the Who, of course, the Beatles, of course, I exactly. Actually it showed my schizophrenic self while I was a kid, because my room was split exactly down the middle with posters. This side was the Beatles and this side was Kiss. It was Kiss, Yes, Wow, we were just talking about. Kiss yeah on the way here, because he thought they were Kiss was more like a kind of download band. We've got a friend who's must have been to all the Beatles. Gear. I was like saying, well, look his favorite bands Kiss. He was like, shut, no way, not a chance. But yeah, you proved it for us.

01 And do you know that there's a lot of similarities between the Beatles and Kiss. Kiss actually modeled after the Beatles. There you go, they like the antithesis, the anti Beatles. Yeah, I mean, I haven't seen the sort of similarities in the Clothes yet. I'll show you the similarities. And it's not the clothes. It's not the clothes. Every Beatles song that's written by John and Paul they both get credit no matter who wrote it. Every song that was written by Gene or Paul, same thing, and whoever wrote the songs sang the songs. Think about Ringo, if he wrote a song, he sang it. George sang it and same with the kiss. So what so they kind of pattern that model of the whole band being involved instead of like one person.

47 I didn't know that. See that. You learn something new every day, right, Oh yeah, I'm learning a lot today. Actually, all right, so I got another trivia question then? Yeah, So who is the most famous bassist that was not a bassist and had to be was forced to be? Keith Richards. No, I'll give you a clue. We were just talking about him. Well you go, she got it. He's not a bassist. Now, he was a guitarist and he had to do bass because you had John and George, and that's why if you listen to his bass, he plays it like a guitar.

31 Yeah, so that melody lines, I guess there you go. So one story, good or bad in your whole musical journey? Oh what would it be? I mean, A great story that keeps on giving is our collaboration with like the Sex Pistols, our ongoing relationship with them, So first run into them. I mean we've done over five hundred gigs a band, so we've been all over getting into people's faces from the start. But we were doing these youth benished Bit shows at this place and Shepherds Bush Cooper Show, and Paul Cook John with the Sex Pistols showed up and he got on stage with us playing God Save the Queen. And so now we're going on tour with them in America in September, isn't it?

11 So? Yeah, that's probably. An I'll be there, brilliant a nice one from in America. Florida is where I live, but I won't claim being from there because it's a little fucking crazy, to be blunt. Yeah, I couldn't tell, right, Yeah, I mean, yeah, we definitely will be going to Florida on that tour. Do you know where? Where are you at? I don't know. I'm looking at I'll manager Joe to see if he knows. But Florida, what tour? What town? Do you know? I don't know, we don't know yet. We're I don't care where it is I'm going. Yeah, well, yeah, I don't know. But yeah, Florida you're talking about crazy? Huh, Yeah, totally, But you know, so it's hot my whole country right now, to be honest.

59 Yeah, that's a different conversation really. That's another conversation for another day. But I want to ask you, what do you think of Frank Carter doing the sex Bestors. Well, I only think positive things about it, because at the end of the day, the songs that they're singing, they're youthful songs, and I suppose it's a bit of a contradiction if you've got a load of old geezer singing them songs. And it's so I think Frank Frank Carter, he puts that youthful twist on it, and he I think he embodies what those songs are. Se I love that like with how you put that, because I think it. I think all the older bands should probably think like that, bring somebody young and so you can appeal to both. I mean that's why. I mean, that's why pul Well, you know, I mustive pull Well a fan. That's why he never sings in the city, you know, and all those sort of things, just because they're they're young songs and you know, you can't sing you know, he's sixty seven now, you can't sing that like an angry eighteen year old.

51 You know. It's so funny you should say that. Because Joe from the Vandals, who I'm friends with and I've interview a few times. He always says, like, don't ask me when the Vandals are coming out with new songs. Nobody wants to hear a fifty year old writing punk rock songs. Well, no, I mean it's like if they can change the style and adapt to their yeah, you know, adopt the experiences their ages. But it can never be it can never truly be authentic. If you just try to know, recreate something you're doing when you're in your twenties and when you're in your fifties becauset the end the day, it could never be true and you won't. Feel it, no doubt, because it's a different way of thinking. You've gone through a lot of different life experiences. And me, I looked up before coming here. That's my highlight of the whole weekend. It's the Pistols. Okay, after you guys like their second, you guys are first.

34 Ohity, But. I watched the videos with Frank Carter. I'm like, oh my god, he is so good. He's fucking mental on stage. And that's coming from somebody that comes from the old school time. And I think all the gatekeepers out there are like, oh, unless it's suit vicious or unless it's Johnny Rott and it's not the sex pistols. I watched the videos and I call bullsh it. Yeah, people say it's karaoke and all the rest of it. But not to put any dispects John Lynon or whatever. But you know, I think nowadays Frank Carter would feel that feel those songs more and that would mean more to more and more to people than it went to John Lyden at this point. Definitely, And I think he's really good and he's he's fucking mental on stage, say to say the least if it's you're going to talk about punk or whatever, he definitely carries that punk energy over.

27 I mean, you know, we've supported him a few times now in Nottingham, Birmingham and Abberhole and that sort of thing, and just seeing the way he works the crowd and sing those songs and just you can totally means it. And if music is about anything's about honesty, and it's about media and passion. And your passion has change and your priorities change when you get. Older, so absolutely you're on point with that. So speaking and passions, what are your guys, passions outside of music? Passions outside of music? I say clothes. That, Yeah, how about you? Yeah, Like, I mean, it all goes together when you're working working in music. It's fashion, it's art, it's cinema, it's all of it together. So it's just like trying to draw from as many like influences and many parts as we can.

14 Yeah, And when was that moment in time that you're like, this is what I need to do. Just as soon as you get into bands, you go, I want a bit of that. I'll do that. And they were lucky enough that we're siblings, so we live together and it's like it's aper easy for us to collaborate and we just got on like the circuit really quickly. We saw bands like every night of the week because London's got such a scene going on at the moment as a real zite guys, bands pulling from all those kind of the same eras that that we are, and everyone's doing a slightly different take on it. It's like you're talking about the Beatles before you got bands pulling from that, people doing more like the grudge thing going like the mud Honey Nirvana route, people pulling from like Bowie and Swede and. That kind of more like adrogynists sort of scene. I guess you could all. I love it. See, it's just really sparring to be around that. It's really energetic.

57 I've always loved London for music where I was a teenage is like my my life goal to go to London for the punk scene. You know, Well you where did you live? Are you still living Florida? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, she just down there for the weekend. Actually, I'm on tour right now, so next I'm going to hell Fest from here. Oh right, France, And I just got done with Punk Rock Bowling and Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple. And do you find there's a lot of different bands or is it mostly the same so fast? It depends, It depends. It's different when I come over here. Yeah, Like in America, every festival it's like the same bands. It gets old. Here it's always fresh. No matter where I go, it's always fresh. And that's why I love about it here.

42 Well who are you excited to see here? Well? Yeah, sex Pistols. Second to you guys. We well we're not playing here. I know that's why, but I gotta say second to you guys. Yeah, So CONDI tell everybody how they reach out to you on socials, on the web, by your merch all that stuff. Well, yeah, just just search at the Monotovs anywhere and you'll find us. If you want Instagram, it's just the monotov same on Twitter and Facebook or whatever. But but yeah, you know, if you want to, if you want to take notice, and do you like all the influencers that we mentioned earlier, then you might very much like our band. And if you like what you hear online, then they see his live so as well. I mean, we play all the time. I said before, We've done over five hundred gigs. We can'stantly playing. But we have got a single out, cool More and More that was released in March. We've also got another one, our second single, Today's one Day, coming out next week.

34 Nice time, so go listen to that as well. Yeah, everybody go listen to that, or you can't listen to my show. Yeah, there's only one thing, so just put that on repeat the drive, you mad. I love it well, I love that you guys are here, okay, and I'll be hanging with you the sex Pistols tonight. And thanks for being on the Adventures plate Man. Thank you Dean cheers, Dean, thank you for listening to the adventures of Patement on w for c Ui Radio. Yah
