04 Hey you lunt here, that's sure? Why Ray Young, This is pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four Cy Radio, and I'm. Here with Lee from the Funeral Portrait. Nice. Yeah, one of my favorite people. Hey, we're back baby. You know what's funny is I had blue hair for a while. It's kind of normal right now, but I've been telling my girl, like, I want to do that color. You do, slime green, so we can match. Well, you know why. Okay, So my previous car was when I first started getting the blue hair, and like two days later, I was shopping for a car and I saw one exactly the color of my hair, and I bought it just because of the color. Okay, And now I have a lime green jeep.

58 That's incredible. So you got it? Come on, you know what, and it's calling. It's literally the universe being like listen, Lee Jennings, your favorite singer of all time has green hair, and my car has is green, so of course. You have to now do it. I think I might do it for aftershock there all right, you know what, you know where I got the inspiration. It was before you, but you confirmed it when Billie Eilish had that black. Hair, the green oh yeah, the green, the green roots. Yep, that's badass. It was I want that, and that's exactly a tour. I showed her a picture. I'm like, that's what I want. That's so cool. I love that. Now now you confirmed I'm doing We're in like it so louder than life? Have you played this one yet? Allen?

43 Remember we played last year? Of course we played last year here. Yeah. Well last year was kind of crazy because the rain, remember it was insane. I look at my shirt. Okay, look at this shirt. Okay, I need to draw X on the player. Did not play last year exactly here, yep, but they looked incredible last night. Oh, they were amazing. So we did see him at after Shock, so we were very lucky. I think we played the same day that they played at after Shock, because that was pretty cool. Well last year, interestingly enough, okay, their first show was riot Fest. Yes, and a little sad, but I have to tell it because a slayer. So I got called in the middle of riot Fest that my grandson passed away.

34 Oh my goodness, so sorry to hear that. Yeah. Thanks. Last year, after the funeral, I flew back just in time for slayer. Oh wow, And so I left all those emotions in the slayer pit. That's sick. But that's what music's supposed to be. That's what it's supposed to do. So it's therapy. It's the best therapy there is, really the artist and for me the listener. Yep. And I think that's what people don't understand about Mashpa. It's not about hurting the mame know. It's about the emotion. It's getting it out. Yeah, don't hurt. Yeah, Well that's the whole thing. I think we were very like emotional band, right, Like we have a very emotional song. I wrote a song about the passing of my grandmother and stuff like that, right about that, Yeah, all those things. I want to talk about, real things. And I think for me it helps me every single day that I get to sing those songs and do that. And so it's cool that you see the same thing and you see the vision of that, because I think that's how music's supposed to connect with people.

32 I think you're supposed to feel it. You're supposed to not just feel it in here, but get it out. And that's what a concert's for. That's what a show's for. That's what these vessels are for, is to get it out for you. The artists and me the listener. Yes. And then one thing that really bothers me is these bull crap people that say, oh, artists shouldn't be going up there, and like they're on a pulpit. No, they absolutely should. Do you not understand music? Yeah? That's I mean every generation of music, you had, the hippies, you had the punks. Yet you know that. Do you not get what music is? When they say that, it just like so annoys me.

12 Oh, you have no idea. I think about that all the time. I think for us, we're, like I said, we're emotional band. We get up there and we speak our mind and we we say what we need to say, and we believe what we preach to. And that's something huge for our band, and it works perfectly, you. Know what I mean? I think, yes, exactly, And for us that's so important. And that's what we're like trying to do with our band and trying to bring and trying to to kind of change the game a little bit, is bring the true emotion and true feelings back to rock music. It seems to be working a little bit. We're playing the main stage. It's a little crazy. So that's wild, right, How does that feel? It's gonna be crazy? So we blak out early, we play it one, but for me, that's still like kind of crazy. It's still the mainstay it is and it's not opening so or not first or like third, so it's pretty cool.

02 There you go. So that's that's kind of crazy. And as you know, at these standing wimber festivals, it doesn't really matter because the people come out and drove the first thing in the morning. Yep. Well they're ready all day long, especially for some of these headliners. I mean there's some big headliners this year. Yeah, who you most looking forward to seeing? I think to Night or I think everybody's excited to see sleep Token. I think everybody's excited to see Avenged. You know. I think I grew up loving Avenged, So for me, that's a big deal. Even tomorrow. I think tomorrow I've gotten to know like the Blackfield Brides guys, so I'm excited to see them play now because I haven't seen them in forever. It's one of those things I got to know them outside of it music kind of a little bit. So that's kind of cool to see them play tomorrow. Of course, bad Omens and Deft Tones, Perfect Circle. I mean, there's so many incredible bands playing over the next two days.

51 Funeral Portrait yesterday, they're the best band of the whole festival. I'm excited. I'm excited. It's going to be crazy. It's weird. You know. We we last year when we played here, it was raining because we played on Saturday. We were so scared because we were on our way up on Friday from Atlanta, where we're from, and and that's when the shots got called that hey, Friday is canceled. And I was like, oh my god, if they canceled Saturday, that's gonna suck. Because right Louder than Life was our first big Danny Wimmer festival. That was our first chance when we got up there and it was. Raining, but guess what, there were so many cool people out there ready for it, you know, and I love it. I did my thing. I came down after we were done playing, I met everybody in the pouring rain and sat there for thirty minutes and met as many people as I could, you know.

37 And I plan on doing that tomorrow, even off the main stage, jumping down and trying to meet as many people as possible. See that's cool too, Like I love when artists do that because I come from a time where that's how you love the bands you love, Like back in the eighties, like everybody get up on stage, you'd hang out. I got used see Slayer and hang out with them out in the parking and like that makes me loyal to bands like that forever. Yeah, that connection that you make with those people out there, that's what they love even more than the music, of course. I think that's what it is, and that's something that's very important to me. And that's what I'm like working towards is to tear down that wall between like fan and like the band.

23 Right. I think the more open I am, the more real I am, the more it works. And I think people want to know my struggles because I'm human, I'm just like them when I think that's so important to what we. Do as a band is to have that, and I'm excited to as the band grows. It's weird because I do these like check ins every so often on Facebook or Instagram or whatever, and it's crazy because everything going on. Time I do it, it gets bigger right. So like now it's like impossible for me to respond to everybody, right, which is kind of crazy because like for me, for many years, that's all I did, And so it's been hard to keep that balance of even now personal life to my rock life, right and then my fan life, right, so like even my fan life of being a fan of rock music, right, because like they announced just now, I don't know if you're out there, they announced My Chypical Romance is playing.

13 Next year on the three on three of the festivals, which is huge. Yeah, it's a huge one. Especially right now Mike Kim's having this massive moment again, which is incredible. That's the being that I grew up. Loving, you know, and we need that emotion. Yes, yes, you know. And hey, you know if if the Wimmer team's listening right now, you know, I know a perfect band to open the main stage that Mike Kim plays, you know. Yeah, I think so. I think we should be on every single show that Mike him does next year. We'll see. And you know, speaking of the eighties, this is my eighties battle there. I saw it sitting here. This is incredible, This is incredible. What was this one? What is this that it's been I'm okay, I can see that's These patches are sick.

54 It's like a photo patch, right, those are metallica on those are sick. Here, you could make a lot of money off of this. Influencers will play pay thousands of dollars for battle vest. Now you know, somebody said to me, an artist said you could probably get five gram for this. Oh, I'm sure I've kept it all this time. You're being buried in this, right, you're being buried in this And I love that though. That's so cool. It's got blood from when I knocked out my teeth, when I climbed up on Marshall Stack and Swan dived and the crowd moved. That's incredible. And of course you could see the pit. The pit, dude, this is incredible. Like, what in the world I listened. Slayer didn't even have a patch yet.

35 When you made it. That's and so in la I had the time people thought it was a gang banger and that was my gang name. Oh my god, that's so funny. Right, that's so sick. Though, this is crazy. Did you wear this yesterday? No, it doesn't even fit me in I just broke it out of a closet like in March. Okay, okay, I'm like, you know what, I should you an interview? Yes? I love it. And so like last month at Hellfest, I was there inviewing Jeane Hoagland. That's or June whenever you lose track when you're like traveling old Yeah, and I go like this and Dark Angel has a new album and I'm like, hey, do you recognize that logo during the interview. So that's cool, that's great, that's.

21 So cool, right gbh, shit look at you man, this. God yeah, Megadeth, this somebody commented on my band, so like, holy shit, that's the original Exodus logo. That's so sick. And they played here at Louerdan Line. And then of course somebody asks who's this band? And it's not band. That just says no posers. It's so funny. That is still a thing, and that's gonna still be a thing, you know what, forever. No. I love it though, bro, because like so I grew up in my day it was like Avril Levine. I felt like it was a poser, right that was I literally had this ame screen name. Okay, this is I was a good Charlotte fan Okay, so it's a good Charlotte fan calling Avril Avina poser what it's going on?

08 It literally was my ain screen name was anti Avril fan. Okay, and my favorite band's my chemical romance and good Charlotte. Come on, bro? What thirteen? I was thirteen? So you got a table of granted salt. But I thought that was so funny because I think if I met Everril Levina, I would still tell her that story because she would probably. Think it's funny. But like I remember, though in my day and age, posers still it's still a thing. You know. I think a lot of people think like the influencers, you know, the TikTokers, their posers, but I don't know. I think you use them to their advantage of how being influenced, you know, how much they can change that thing. They're bringing a lot of great artists to the gold they even know about and don't have the chance to be known about. Well, I mean, look at sleep Token, sleep Taking.

49 The reason how they are where they are is because of all the influencers using their sounds on TikTok and on Instagram. That's literally how it happened. Right, And then look at Sunday Night, Bring Me a Rise in his headlining yep, and like that. Can you feel my heart? Was like years ago and then all of a sudden it was trending again. Tick tock wasiment. Yes, And that's so important, and it's it's one of those things that I think it's it's all using it to the advantage of what it is, right, And I think I think, you know, trends come and go, right. I think going back to it where we started, about being real and about being who you are is the most important thing, right, And if you're organically unapologetically yourself like I am, it will work out.

38 It might take ten years like it did for us, but eventually it gets there. Look at Ozzie, Yeah, he was always unapologetically ozy. Oh my god. Yes, well, and he's like the first influencer in my brain. I think, I think, you know, with the way he did you know reality TV. I mean, I was used before the Kardashians. He was the real one. And it doesn't get any bigger than you know, the Osborns. I think they did it right now. When I was growing up and I was listening, I was watching the Osbourne's on TV. I couldn't understand anything because every other word was bleeped out. So now that I go back and watch it, they have it on to B, which is free. You can watch it for free on two B all of them, which is great. I had no idea that it was up there, but you can literally watch. All of them. And it's finally I could pay attention to it because it's not be you know what it'd be.

21 I did it recently when passed away. I pulled it up on two B so I could rewatch ithah and I love to BE because it has all the coolest music. Yes, I love the docs like Wet Decline of Western Civilization yep. And it's all free parts on t B yep. They have like nine inch Nails DVDs on there too. They have like live concerts, they have a bunch of stuff. I love TOB yeah, like it's the greatest I know. I wish they would let me pay for it though, so I could get rid of the ads, Like, let me get rid of the ads because I want to pay for to B because I would because it's it has everything that I ever wanted on there. You know what I wish. I wish they would put the funeral portrait. On Hey, hey, maybe they'll put our live DVD on there. We're working on one, so yeah. We filmed a live DVD last year at our big Atlanta hometown show, and we just before we left for Louder than Life, we all sat down in my living room with my mom and my grandfather and we watched it together and it was really really special. It was really cool to watch it all together for the first time.

17 So I love it. When can I see that. January? Probably we're spacing some stuff out because we've been going NonStop. I mean, we're on tour for two or ninety days this year, but we're trying to do something early next year, like a big hometown show and we're going to kind of that'll be the release of a live DVD, something fun live record too, and a bunch of other stuff. So oh man, I can't wait for that. We're hyped. How we tell people to get that when it comes out, look for that. Get your merged all that. Literally, just type in the funeral portrait on Google because there's only one of us, and you'll see the guy with the bright green hair and we made it to the right place. He does have some cool hair. Is there anything else you want to let the listeners know we haven't covered yet.

03 No, man, this has been great. So you always do a great job though. Well, thank you. That's a great compliment because it's not always the case, but you're always a great interview. I love who you are, and I say that because you're an artist, but you're real and you love who you are. You need more as a human. We need more of those in the whole freaking world because a bunch of bullshit going on, yep, And we need more of you. And that's what I'm trying to do, is say, if I can give people, even if it's for thirty minutes on stage at one o'clocket Louder than life and then blistering hot sun, if I can give them thirty minutes of something real and organic and fresh in just unapologetically themselves, That's what I'm gonna give.

48 And that is exactly what you're gonna give all the time. So I love it. And thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thanks for having me my friend. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Platement on w for c u I Radio. H
