04 Hey, you have learnt. Yes, that's true. W w cray you. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four C Y Radio. And I'm here with My name's Rob, my name's Phil. We're both members of the band Teal Deer. Teal Deer and a lot of color deal deer like the animal. And you got teal on your head. This is one of my signature pieces for the shows, the Teal headband. Nice. I'm trying to get a close color match to our logo. I'm working on it, but this will do for the time being. So it's too bad. We're doing the interview now a post a few months ago. Even it's hard to tell on here on my logo, but my hair was teal.
50 Oh yeah, awesome. That wicked right. It would have been front of the center. I know I could. I could have been like the band mascot. You could have been the mascot. Got a bit of a teal in your rock and sunglasses there as well. Just teal enough. We'll give you that. Yeah, there you go. So how do you get the bloodstock? It was all metal to the masses. I don't know if you've heard of it. A pretty big organization. Around a little Birdie told me about it. Yeah, we were winners of the Metal to the Masses Nottingham. Thirty two bands entered, I. Want to say thirty six, thirty six, Yeah. The first time entering as well. So really yeah, I think we did pretty well for our souls.
31 Yeah, very very proud of ourselves. The competition was fierce. I always hear that too. Every Bear met Whims, it's like they don't even think they were going to win goods. Other bands were so good. It is really high caliber of competition. The good thing about it though, is even though it's a contest, you don't feel like you're in contest like with the other bands. It's a family and everyone's making friends and everyone's nice and it's just such a good community. That's metal, that is right. People think like they have these misconceptions of what metal is, and we are the biggest family that is. Like the whole world could take a queue from us. With all the bullshit that's going on in the world, take a queue from our community, and maybe we could all get along.
21 People on the outside they might see the mosh pits, they might see people walking off. With the nose bleeds, and they bited hairy dudes in black clothes and they think, wow, okay, but I'm not to go near that guy. But what they're not telling you is some of the nicest people you'll ever meet in the whole, whole fucking world. Fuck yeah. And you know you talk about the marsh bits, people have a misconception and what that is. It's not about hurting and maiming people. It's about getting in there getting your shit out so you don't hurt people in the outside world exactly. And everybody picks each other up. Everybody looks after one another, and everybody makes each other feel the best that they can. Yeah, that's the number on rule of the mush pit, right. If someone falls down, you pick them, right. I've been going to metal shows you, at least when I went to our six years old nice Yeah. Yeah, And some big hairy biker dude obviously could tell I was too short to see put me on his shoulders for the entire set.
10 And that's just sit then on our news. That's why you're here. Yeah. One of my questions is when is that moment that you knew this is what you want to do. I think that's the. Moment that was it. It was my favorite band at the time. It's a band called Lordie, some finished monster rock band. Very familiar. Yeah, I love him and yeah, I managed to watch the whole set from a perfect vantage point. I just knew at that point, you know that the people in this crowd are trying to take care of me totally. I feel like it's something you distinctly get in metal. My grandson when it was like nine or ten, he came to a festival with me and I putman's first marsh bit ever August Burns Red. It's a pre heavy one. That go first, but all the big hairy dudes crowded around.
56 I love tagg did and they were pushing. They made a circle and they were pushing them around so he could marsh but not being like what people think is violent, because it's really not violent. It's the friendliness of it all. It's contagious as well. That's the reason I'm here because I started learning base when I was fifteen years old, not much of a direction before then, we as tealed it. We were playing as friends for maybe a decade and a half before we actually formed. Abandon did it properly and it was them. It was the friendliness and the companionship of it that got me into the metal scene. I was learning for maybe two weeks and they were like, yeah, come on, that's enough jam with us, Come and join the band.
36 And I was like, you know, yeah, dude, Yeah, it's welcoming, isn't here. I love a story like that, and I think we should send all those naysayers that think that these big airy dudes are like these real tough guys and bring them to Bloodstock on Thursday. Yeah, when it's Sophie Lancaster Day and all these big, scary looking dudes are wearing pink and pink skirts and sparkles on their face, and then you'll see. It's been what we're all about well and half since then, and some people are still out there rocking it. Right in a plenty of pink, plenty of pink. Here we go right here.
17 Actually, black Sabbaths no less as well. I love right black Sabbath pink. So tell our listeners who have never heard you what they can expect a live show. B How you would describe your music as an artist not the genre, because I hate that label shit and boxing artists into. You say that because we can't quite put ourselves into a specific label or genre either. I love to me. So the the title of our latestp is menace, right, And that name actually came about because me and ODM, a guitarist, we were having a conversation one day about how we describe our sound, and menacing is the word that we land and his eyes just litt up and he went, that's it.
02 That's the word. It must have been good. If we can pick menacing a menacing sound, Chaotic sounds would be probably the second. Absolutely, it must have been good because it's one of the rare occasions that made ominous deer man actually speak and not possess some kind of electronical speaker equipment to speak to us to. Get a physical word out. So menace, he said, the chaos grown there is right over there by the way. Marked have a chat with them afterwards. Right, Ominous deer anthems is what we describe ourselves as online. If you see our Spotify descriptions or our socials or anything like that, that's probably the first three words that you'll read, ominous deer anthems. It's a little bit of a like Rob said, a little bit of menace, a little bit of nastiness sprinkled in amongst the high energy, anthemic riffs.
52 That's what we want to give you. We want to give you energy followed by a nice surprise, fat. Low riffs, and you've got those soaring highs and airy moments that happened. You know, We're trying to do a little bit of everything. Don't be surprised if we want you to break out into a waltz every now and then, or if we would like you to get down and start rowing. In the pit. Anything's possible. Anything's possible at our shows. You have to come and find out for yourselves. Oh good plug, how about yeah? How about waltz marsh pit. It's a surreal sight to see. Our latest single is called Waltz of the Worthy, And like I said before, we got a nice heavy intro and then we'll break down into a waltzing section halfway through. Our lead singer Ted bags of energy. He'll get out into the circle pit with everyone, slow them all down.
35 I'm like, come on, everyone, find a partner, let's get dancing nice. See Now, I just came up with an idea. You guys need to do a tour with Exo this they got the tactic waltz. You got the waltz. That should be a tour exodus. If you're listening there, you go hit us. Up Socials, Gary, bring them on tour. Harry app Mosaic Music for all of our booking needs, Harry at Mosaic music dot com. I love it. I love it. So what's next? How are you going to top Bloodstock? That's a pretty hot that's a high bar. We've been thinking about that too. We were up with Lastelle next in Derby the vic Is for their Derby leg of their UK TLL. That's sold out as well, So they're a great bad few days.
25 We're very honored to be playing with those guys. Yeah, absolutely a badass yeah tour for sure. So apart from that, we're just gonna try and get ourselves in front of as many people as possible. You know, his name of the game is just getting that exposure, playing as many shows as we can, saying yes to every gig as my personal philosophy anyway. So you're gonna get as much metal out to the masses as you can. One could say that's atally done. Yeah, I think as well as all of the new stuff that's happening, the stuff that we've just released. We're still pushing and we're still getting it out there. A lot of people seem to think that the work stops when you release the song and they can just put it out there and see what happens. But you can't anymore. You've got to you've got to get your name out there, and you've got to keep pushing. You've got to keep talking to people, and you've got to keep making friends even after the product is out. You can't lose the passion for it.
13 No doubt. I tell people all the time, like they're playing is the easy part. There's a lot of other stuff, and musicians are some of the hardest working people. They think like, oh, they're just playing. No more misconceptions totally. People think, oh, rock star life, that must be all fugging you're living the dream life, sex, drugs and rock and roll, getting all the bidge it now. No, I don't like that. We're grafting over it. Right, one day. We'll reap the rewards and we'll be able to sit back with a ball of brown Eminem's and get massages before the show and stop for now. I think there's a case of getting out there and grafting. Speak for yourself. Odim gives me foot massages anyway.
57 Love it well, tell everybody how they get reach you on socials, how they could buy your merch because they can't listen to my show and let's say buy your merch. Well, unfortunately at the moment no online store for merch. But if you message one of us on our socials, you can hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, all of that business. You can even Google us and your name will come up. Till deer till deir bands till dear UK. You're all smart people. You know how to find us. We're up on YouTube, got plenty of videos. On there as well. If you're a visual learner, just to hit up the internet, tack on aiming, find out what you can find out. Love it well. I love that you guys made the heart the bloodstock.
37 And let's too. Thank you so much for all. Those masses to get here, and thanks for being under Avengans and Pepe Man. Thank you very much for having us. You guys having us, It's a pleasure. Michelle Kerr was my press officer for my entire fucking career here in the UK, my entire career with machine She recently passed away and it was a very, very sad day. And I can tell you the reason that I'm gonna tell this story is because she was family. She was Bloodstock family. She was heavy metal UK family. Most of the. Bars that you know and love, you probably heard of because of that woman right there. Slive Knots, Slayer, Machinehead, Trivium Kills which engage, Hey breed, you name it. She helped lift everybody up, man. She helped lift everybody up, and in so many ways, she helped make this entire music scene, this incredible, beautiful community that lives here at Bloodstock Man, she helped make it. So, ladies and gentlemen, please make some noise for Michelle Kerr.
58 Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Patement on w for c u I Radio.
