04 Hey, you listening to sex. Sure, I'm coming. I'm for see Wow for you'll wake up America. It's time for the Adventures. So Pipe Man on W four CWY dot com West pom Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man ober one Night, never stop It doing down a fool thing, matches two ashes, Sex You Inciner Race Loo gab me Now I taking y'all race bas This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures The Pipe Man W four c why Radio. And I'm here with small Town Syndrome. Nice. There's a lot of sin drums out there nowadays. You're my favorite. Well, we appreciate that we actually had to go with the SI in version of syndrome. Oh, I know, right, it's so hard to come up with band names nowadays that you have they either changed its spelling, put a symbol in it, put the letter upside down. I've seen you know. Yeah, we spent a few nights trying to figure out what the hell our band name was going to be when we got together, and we actually came up some really good ones and only to find out that, oh, they're already taken. So the Town Syndrome it is there. It is, Well, I dig it, and here you
37 are in prior playing at Rock Oklahoma. That's a small town syndrome. I think that's you should be like the headliners just because of your band name. Right, Yeah, there's some weight there for sure. You know. It's one thing I noticed that I did love though. Is you quote Kurt Cobain on your website. Yeah, Like that's because you know, I think, more than an artist, his words and his thoughts, like when you watch them talking interviews and just things he said. Man, he's what it's all about. Like, you know, he is to me the ultimate punk rocker because of that, you know, because punk rock is about the attitude, about the mindset and the freedom. Yeah you know, and that's really what Kurt was trying to get to was about the freedom to be you. Yeah right so, and that's really I mean, that's what we embody all the way, that spirit. We could use that a lot of that today because it seems like America has become the freedom to not be you. You know, it's like you either have to pick a side and you can only like these people. You can't like these people. You can only watch this, you can't watch that it's a bunch of fucking bullshit. Yes it is.
53 And that's that comes through. I think in our music that we just do what we want to do, you know, because we are free to do that. And that's the way it should be. Like to me, that's what being an artist is, is doing what comes to you naturally, not like you know, here this is how you have to do this music, or here, this is the genre you need to be boxed into. Like I hate that crap, the genre stuff. I come from the time where we had the gatekeepers and you know, like I was in the Sunset Strip in the eighties and most of the band's playing here today, I was not allowed to like because I was into thrash metal instead, you know, And it's like, how stupid, Like just like what you like, bands play what you play exactly because that's the only way the music is good and authentic.
42 Like if you try to play somebody else's music somebody else right for somebody else's thoughts, it's always going to come across wrong. Yeah. So what's the craziest story you guys have on this uh musical journey? I know, Dead Biker last year and I don't know, I mean well, we were headed from one show to another, right after someone stole half of your ship, right yeah, oh sorry, someone stole like half of Brian's stuff. And then we're on our way to our next show and we roll up on a biker who had got an accident. We tried to do what we could to help and all that until other people came, but he was gone, and it's like, well, now I wanted to the show and go play music in front of people, and then that's then that night we get to the show and the dude who booked us never told us they don't have their going PA ninety five at night, and they're like, we don't have a PA, and so we called Guitar Center. Guitar Center rented us a PA, and one of the dudes was like what seventeen eighteen some shit like that.
47 He came and ran sound for us, and then we let him play a couple of songs on bass with us, because like, oh yeah, it's just such a shit show up a weekend and like, in just one day, that's rock and roll right there. But hey, we made it, happened, and we played a show and when we killed it, so all that to me is like that's punk rock too, Yeah, definitely. Yeah. Is that a crew tattoo? It almost looks like it, like the anonymous symbolar it's from. Yeah, it is that too. Yeah, that that too. See And I was thinking, like, but you might you said it. I thought of it, but at first I was like Famini Opera or something crap like that. It could fit a lot of those marks. Oh there you go. Yeah, see that's more Famine the Opera.
34 Yeah, there's they're talking about crazy crazy moments. Uh. There was one time that we were in well Minneapolis, Yeah, we're in Minneapolis. These guys didn't see it. But the place we're playing at was like a little bar, and like the stage is just a little but the windows like we're right behind the drums, so like there's these big windows right behind the drums and the like Downtown Minnieapps, Saint Paul's like right there, and we're playing and I kept looking out the windows, just watching people, you know, stop and go, and and these guys were facing out and they didn't see anything, but this I look over and there's like I think what I assumed was a homeless man and he dude, he's just like flicking me off, and he's just pissed off at me and he's like throwing up cross symbols and he's flicking me off and he's like balls eyes and I'm like, what the hell was going on? I'm playing and I'm taunting him on, like yeah, motherfucker, and like these guys don't see it, and they're up there playing and then like I look over like two minutes later and he's gone, and like, I was like, did you guys see that guy?
36 They're like, what guy? I was like, dude, this guy hated us or just me? And I was like I looked over and he was just flicking me off double finger. It was funny. They're probably thinking too, like what kind of drugs did you take before the show because you're like hallucinating. Well, so we didn't see him, right, so we just go We kind of just go with that story, right, Adam, there was a guy there man he was gonna say and he's gonna kill you totally. We look back though, and you're just laughing and we're like, what was that about. When we got down on the set, he's like the guy who's saying he was gonna kill me, he laughing. So yeah, there's weird stuff. Oh man. But see that's why I like hearing in these stories because that's rock and rock and roll right there. It is, you know, man, it's kind of like the Sunset Strip. They you know, I lived on the Sunset Strip in the eighties, and listen, if you remember the Sunset Strip, you weren't there. Yeah, right, that's right. Oh man. So what you got going on after this?
33 Well, we're actually this is the last festival we're doing in twenty three, and we've got a lot of stuff lined up for twenty four, but we're gonna take this fall. We've got a lot of new music. We want to get back in the studio. So October that's kind of our goals. Get back in the studio, get working on our new stuff. And what do you foresee for your new stuff? How how will it evolve from your current music? Uh? The short answer is no clue. I like, yeah, answer that means it's gonna be really honestly, we really don't know, you know. It's funny. One of our most popular songs is a violent Films cover Blister in the Sun. I love that song. John. Actually, whatever reason came up with it to do it one night, just didn't you know it is it covers throwing it in our set wherever we go.
16 That song gets a huge response. We decided to record it. We recorded it earlier this year with full permission from the films of course, and uh, you know, we threw that in there, and so really that's just kind of it. We just kind of go with what our gut feeling is. And like we talked about before, it's freedom and you know, maybe a little bit of alternative, maybe a little rock, maybe a little pop punk, straightforward punk. We're kind of a little mix of everything. See I like that too. That's what's great about today is blending genres instead of gatekeepers exactly. You know. I come from the time of gatekeepers, you know, and I thought it was stupid, like who cares? And nowadays I think it's even more important than ever because so many bands sound exactly the same because they're using this formula, right, And it kind of blows my mind because a lot of the you know, genres that have these formulas were came about because you shouldn't have formula, right, yeah, you know, And so when you blend genres and you have different influences from different band members, then you become unique exactly. That's why I like it, you know, and you stand out. Yeah yeah, so and man, yeah, I would assume they do dig that song because it doesn't matter who you talk to, where you go, what bar you're at. People love that song exactly. It's it never gets hold, never gets old playing it.
43 No, you know, it's always so fine to play. And so yeah, I'm so glad we did it. But you know, it's just to show you the jump. One of our new songs that are coming out, it's already in the can that we're actually a release later this fall. It's called any Other Way and it's totally different than anything we've ever done. And we actually of a female singer from the UK, Wow, guested on it to do the female vocals with us. So we're excited to get that out of there at there as well. So you never know what's going to come from small town center like to keep it that way. Oh, that's gonna be really cool. I just got back from the UK for covering bloodstock and download and there are a lot of badass females downloads on our buck list. Oh there you go. Yeah, So you know what happened at download?
24 Metallica had this new sound thing they designed where no mare, where you are in the festival, you could hear Metallica as if you were up at the front. So what happened was it worked so well that people fifteen miles away we're filing complaints that Metallica was too loud. Wow. Can you imagine being fifteen miles away and hearing Metallica clear as day? That's crazy. So there you go. So that's what you have to look forward to. Well, well, we'll have to get you onload because that is a cool, fastial download. That's that's so if anybody's out there listening, what's this little band from Minnesota, we'll be there there it is. Small Town Syndrome Invades the UK. You could do you could make that when you do do download, you can make that your live album and that's the name of the live album.
18 Sweet See. There you go. So how people reach you guys on socials, on the web, and most importantly by your merch because that's the only way you guys survive. Yeah, small Town Syndrome si in So we're on everything. Hit us up, Facebook and Instagram, TikTok YouTube. You can find us wherever streaming, Yeah, website, smalltown syndrome dot com. Find us on Spotify, Apple and all the others. Nice, we're out there. And so since you like change the spelling, do you play off of that and like do a lot of sin? We should probably we really, yeah, doubt when well the drummer, yeah, he looks like trouble. He definitely looks like trouble. Yeah, which is why he's seeing people flipping them off. And girl, your day kill you point? You got a point? Uh, you pissed them off sometime in like a past life or something that could be well cool. I love you guys, and uh, I love that you're here at Oklahoma. Hey, my pleasure. Thank you for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four CUI Radio.
