00 Hey, you love them too. Sure, I'm come, I'm follow for see why for you Wake up America. 0:40 I see iscuomy do for traill is better you? What's this gun be to? What's this gonna be? Do? We tryna follow you? You tryna s god? Mister me see Scooby do? We're come in after you? What this gun means? That's who's the pipe man here? On the Adventures Man W four CEY Radio. I had to do that because my guest here Gabie his radio voice before the interview, so I wasn't even trying. I know, right, you four see why? That's gonna be great when I have you do the station. I d oh. So here we are at download festival with simple plan. Ye here and this is Chuck. What's up?

22 Thanks for having us? Oh? Oh my god, it like the twentieth anniversary and I've been saying all day it's like they must hand pick for twentieth anniversary. It's not just like putting a lineup together. It's like, let's hand pick the best lineup week and put together. How does it feel to be part of that? It's pretty incredible, you know when I look at the lineup and I look at all these big names and we're pretty high on that list, and I'm like, wow, we must have done something right over the last twenty plus years. And we're happy to be here, honored to be here, really, and it's gonna be a good time. We're lucky with the weather and we heard that our ten where we're playing the the Opus State has been amazing, So it's gonna be a good time. Oh, definitely be a good time. And I have to get out of way too before I get in trouble. And when I do get home, one of my daughters, she is like an avid simple plan fan. We'll tell her. We say hi, yeah, and that's what she wanted me to do. Tell them. I said Hi, that's great, oh man.

19 So what's new going on besides download for you guys. We've been in Europe for the last ten eleven days or so. We did a little European run. Before that, we did Southeast Asia, we did Japan. We are heading out to a big US tour with the Offspring in some forty one in August. We're doing all across twenty four shows across America and then just touring. Our record came out last year. It's called Harder Than It Looks. It came out in I think May or June, May or April last year, and yeah, it's been exciting to go out there play some new songs but also play the old classics for everybody. So it's been a great, great time. So I'd like to ask bands like you to put out new music right after the lockdown. One of the things I think, if you're gonna take a positive from that whole down, is that artists like you, guys who have been on a hamster wheel forever, got a chance to like slow down, get creative again, and kind of renewed the passion of the artistry of music. Do you feel that's what happened in your album, because I think some of the best music will ever have our albums like Gears that come post pandemic right well, I think for us it was great first of all to kind of slow dowbum because we had been going on for twenty years, non stuff, so just to kind of have time with the families and spend time with our kids and then realize then we start to miss being on tour and then realize just how precious it is and how maybe I don't think we ever took it for granted, per se, but I think it's always there, it's always available, it's always possible, right right, and

49 then for almost two years it wasn't. And then it makes you realize just how special it is to be able to be on the stage, to play for people to all come together and you know, and share a love of music. And sounds a big cliche and corny, but when we got back on the road, like we truly felt it, it was like, man, people were so happy to be at the shows and still are. There's a difference. There's there's just like this enthusiasm. There's just this level of excitement that people have right now at shows, and for us on stage, it's like it's we got what we love, Like we got to do what we love the most again, which was really special and it's been amazing, and yeah, it's we're still trying to make up for lost time. We have so many places that we still haven't been that we have to go, and it's exciting. I think we just have this kind of the band feels fresh again, you know, and it's fun. I love that, and I love what you said too, because about going in new places, because probably before that it wasn't as much as a goal as it is now.

48 Ye. I think it's always been for us super important to go where our fans are. And I think what's really it's pretty hard, like twenty years into a band, to to new places, to play bigger rooms than we've had before, and to play new countries or new cities. But it's still wanted the goal. I think this whole pause made us want it even more, you know, just kind of keep growing the band and see how far we can take this thing. I think it holds true for everybody, artists like yourself, and then the attendees. I remember because I go on tour and I do all the music festivals in the US and UK, Europe, and like people would bitch all a fricking time about oh, I went to this festival and the only band I wanted to see canceled and didn't play, or any other complaint like that. And I think what it did is now these people value it and it's like, you know, they don't take it for granted anymore. Yeah, I think that there's also just an appreciation that you know, I think years ago, touring for musicians was really something that you know, the record label paid for as promotion. But over the years it became you know, not not to bring in the finances of it, but like they became like, oh, this is part of the businesses, you know, playing shows. So yeah, I think bands are they're putting they're putting more effort into it, more production. The ticket price is a little higher, but it's a bigger show. It's a real deal. It's not just some pain in the ass thing you have to do to satisfy your label to sell more records. You know, what a great thing because I didn't think about some of what you just said there. Yeah, back back

20 in the eighties and nineties, like touring was purely promotional. It wasn't really to make money, you know. It was just like, oh my god, I got to go on tour and you guys support the album and yeah, and now it's become a big part of how bands stay alive. Financially, how you how you pay the bills, and how you promote yourself and how you know you you keep that fan base alive absolutely, And and going back to something that you had said about what happened to me, is you know that two years of not doing any of this. You know, at first it was kind of nice. It's like they get arrest yea. But then I remember that first festival and I was seeing it at DWP Festival in the middle of one hundred thousand people, and I'm like, I feel live for the first time in two years. Yeah, well it's true. I mean, what is it? Who's the band that says it? Is it?

06 I'm trying to think. Is it's Cinderella or is it weren't it? Like I don't know what you got till it's gone? Or is that Who the hell is that I'm trying to remember. It doesn't matter. But for me, you know, when we were when we were, you know, twenty nineteen eighteen, like I was kind of getting sick of playing shows because we'd played so many wed Never it was never taken away from us. It was never taken away. It was always just there. Like Chuck was saying, earlier and having it taken away, and then we play a show two years later, and we're like, this is pretty fun, and maybe we're we're really lucky to be here, you know what I mean. Instead of being like, oh, I don't want to go, you're more like, well, this is pretty cool. I love it. Well, I think we're pretty lucky to have you here at download the twentieth anniversary and thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Man. Hey, what's up. This is Pierre and Chuck from the band's Simple Plans and you're listening to the Pipe Man on W four cu hyn. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pyntmin im W four CI Radio.
