PipemanRadio Interviews Silent Theory at Inkcarceration 2025

We are at Shawshank Prison aka Ohio State Reformatory for the 2025 Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival. Silent Theory is playing and came backstage in the Press / Artist Lounge to talk with Pipeman Radio of W4CY Radio about what it is like to perform at such an iconic location where Shawshank Redemption was filmed. This closed down prison is known to be haunted so when you go to Blood Prison who knows what will happen.

04 Hey, you have done too. Yes, that's true. W Wow crazy you. Incarceration America's Rock, Metal and Tattoo Bestival. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four CY Radio, and I'm here with. Bob James, Private Silent, Theory, Dakota. And George First serration man. Sure. Oh have you played in before? We did? We played back in twenty twenty one, which was kind of fun. It was a weird feeling a little bit because it was right out of COVID. It was one of the first big events and stuff like that, and it's only grown and gotten bigger and stuff like that since then, and it just, yeah, I don't know, it feels great being here.

48 Yeah, I've been doing this festival since twenty eighteen. Oh jeez, and it is a whole different world now. Oh yeah, But is it fucking iconic to be playing at Loft Shank Prison, Like it's hard. Not to think about Andy Dufran and his struggles to get free. Have you guys gone in? I did the tour last. Time we're here, but this guy and a few of our media tech people are gonna go do the Haunted tour and stead. Yeah, you got I did the Blood Prison today. It's pretty fucking good. And I'm kind of critical because I don't even I was laughing the whole time because I don't get scared in them. I try to scare them. But it was pretty good. There's like hallways where you can't see shit at all.

32 Yeah, and it's great. Not my favorite, not for me. I'm gonna do it. Yeah, sixteen to fifty you jump out of me. I'm gonna scream like a bitch. That's fire at me. I was in there and I would see them and I would hide and go and try and scare them. That being said, they do hire very wonderful actors. You would do a great job with their makeups. Oh, they are some of the most brilliant for haunted houses. I've seen. It's every rob zombie movie and taken it to heart, really built a character around it. And you know what, It's funny because when you go in there, you don't know if you're gaining haunted by the characters or by a real ghost.

18 It is a haunted prison for real. It's creepy. I'll give you that. Well, No whil And reeves from a killer's confession, right, Yeah, Yeah, so he filmed the video here in one of the torture rooms, and he told me when he walked out of that room he had scratches all over his body. That is terrifying. Now, go on the tour. I don't like that. I don't like any of it. Yeah, go on the tour now. So, man, it's funny, like we've talked for so many years, and it's so cool to be here and going to prison together in person.

00 Yeah. Absolutely, man, Like I was telling these guys before we started the interview, like I've done probably like four or five interviews are the over the years, and so it's nice to actually see in person. I know, right, Yeah, So what you got going on after in. So this is called turning point in our tour. We laid our way out to up people in parceration. Now we're kind of turning back. We have a couple of travel days. We're gonna hit South Dakota, Wyoming, kind of Montana, and then we're gonna finish in Spokane, Washington, which is pretty close to where we live. And yeah, we got a couple of things in the works as far as like songs and music videos and stuff, but rosso trying to lock in some dates for fall tour nice, like September October time frame. Very cool and who you're thinking of tour and with.

41 There's a lot of great bands out there. There's a couple of bands on our booking agent's roster, so it'd be great to go out with somebody like Outlier any given San any of those guys, I don't know what their availability. Is, we're gonna play it out there in the Yeah. And there's also some other great bands that are kind of up and coming that we've played with, like Major Moment and stuff like that from up in the Boston area are doing really great things and stuff. So hopefully we can get together with some people that one we like to hang out with and two are playing really awesome music. That's key, right when you're on tour, you better like the people you're on tour with. The relatively late's like going to jail. Yeah. Yeah, we've definitely been on those tours. Right, right, because you're supposed to be a family, and it should be cool when you're going on tour with other bands to like have that cohesiveness.

25 And yeah and be friends together. Yeah, absolutely, And I mean it's one of those also that like, this is a really small industry, Like there's a lot of bands out there, but everybody knows somebody who knows somebody, and so it's just like you really want to be with people who will also kind of get like sometimes there's like shitty days, sometimes there are good days, and they all average out to being like we're doing something that a lot of people wish they could be doing. We're also providing a service of joy to a lot of people. So like we take that to heart to try and like put our best out whether we're playing like a hunter cap room or playing an incarceration to like right ten thousand. People and too because even for media, it's a small world, and I don't get some of other media people I've met throughout the year that like not the year through my career is like my job is to promote you.

13 It's not to try to shockjock you into negative shit. And we appreciate that there's. So many that try to do that. Like even one of the most memorable times is I was interviewing me and uh, We're at Rock on the Range and I was talking about like I don't get same thing like you, I don't get why people want shock talk, and I certainly don't get why people will interview women in this business and try to like I don't know, throw shade at them or whatever. Gotcha questions and stuff. Yeah, and she goes yeah after the and we were talking about that after the interview, and she goes, yeah, there's like seven people in here I will never interview with ever again. And you know it's going to spread around everybody. You know, absolutely, just be fucking cool. You're there to promote them. You're not there to make them look like shit or bring up their worst moments.

07 Bring up their best moments. Yeah. I mean, sadly, it's kind of across entertainment in general because I think about interviews like I think it was like for one of the Avenger movies or something like that, but they're going down the line and asking people about like, oh, what's your favorite thing about going to that, or what's your favorite thing at craft services? And they get to like Scarlett Johanser like, so how. Do you feel about being a mother and being away for so much time and stuff? And they're like, what the hell kind of question was that at the movie? Yeah? Yeah, it's just one of those like Why is that the standard? Like, why are people like that? Just like she's an accomplished actress, as is Naters, She's probably better than most male guitar players. Like talk to her about music. Oh yeah, she's fucking shreds bad.

49 She's incredible. I think most of the women now in metal are more badass than the dudes. And I come from a time where the fucking gatekeeping shit it was stupid. Yeah, Like, you see somebody get up there and fucking growl and scream better than a male. It's like, oh, my fucking god. I have a very firm imprint in my brain. The first time I saw in this moment, they were opening for rob Zombie and the band comes out and they look like a metal band. They're just like ah, and then she comes out dresses Owls in Wonderland and we're like, oh, this is kind of weird. She's like, hi, thank you so much. We're in this moment, and then did the like the baddest like growl scream thing I've ever done.

29 And it was like, I'm very confused, but I am in like this. Is res you made something in my pants? What happened? Well? I saw them ready for this I saw the first time on third stage Odds Veest ninety nine, that's all, okay, And third stage was not much bigger than this table here, okay, And I was like, oh my god, I fucking love them. Yeah out the gate. They had great music and their stage presence was incredible, like they just knew who they were and I love that about him. And then I look at somebody like Courtney from Spiritbox, I'm like, I just love watching how she works her mouth to do the growls and screams, like, you know, it's unbelievable, Like I just the formation and the technique that she has, it's just unbelievable.

20 And you can also tell that like she's very comfortable with who she is as a person, as an ours, she does not suffer fools like right, she also puts on an incredible show, like she goes out and lays it all out there every night. Bear runs, Yeah there is. And he won't ever know, Well, there is a bear that's gonna be here at incarceration. During the dilling to Escape Plan set. Okay, I was gonna say, we saw a guy during our set earlier wearing a giant bear helmet thing, and I was like, I don't. It's so hot out here. He's in the middle of the crowd. How is he alive? Met him? Okay, because I met at the pre party and here yesterday.

01 I don't know if you saw the whole thing too. His girlfriend has him on the leash, no walking around the whole festival. That changes the dynamic a little bit, so I'm not us. Hey, it takes all kinds out of the metal festival, like there. Is no shade man like, be who you want to be. That's honestly one of the things I love about coming to places like a Ink. Some people dress up, they got face paint, they got masks or like whatever, and some people are just like they clearly work in it and that's the only clothes they have. Everybody comes together for a single person listening to killer music and just having community therapy.

45 Yeah, this is therapy. I hear people like, thank you for the therapy session. Oh, it's total therapy. I think it's therapy for the artists and for us to fans. You know, because listen, I was just talking about this with my brother the other day. I've been talking about it's a lot today because just happened and he doesn't get metal at all, and I'm like, man, you don't get it. Always talk about my childhood and I'm like, yeah, that's how I got through my fucking childhood. I went in to mosh pits and got it all out. So I went and fucking killed somebody in the outside war. Yeah. Absolutely, That's one of my favorite things about mosh pits because people who aren't in the scene like definitely have a negative opinion of it because it's like it's so violent and I'm not gonna argue like it's not not violent, but it is one of those like as soon as somebody hits the ground, there's like three people that box out, like gets you back up and like you're good, all right back in there.

33 That's what chaos exactly. And that's why I told him. I'm like, like, you don't understand, Like if somebody goes down in the pit, everybody runs over to pick him up, give them a hug, and then goes back to. Michell community in it. It's like I don't know you, but I I know something about you based on what we're both doing right now. And why we all got something You need to get out and me too, buddy, like that's the kind of community. You get into. Moshpit totally, and you do, and it is the best therapy. And the adrenaline rush, like the euphoric feeling, like there's no drug you could take on earth that could give you the euphoric feeling that a metal show, live music, mash pit, any of it gives you.

14 I will some band, I will say some bands in my personal experience have made me do some really unadvisable things. Bro. My buddy got me tickets from my fifteenth birthday in Seattle and we were at the Paramount Theater and like right on the edge of the pit, David throwing a pick out and I was like, I'm getting it, and so I'm on all fours crawling through this scene. People were like, make way, there's a man coming on the mission. I got the pick and people were. Like, that's awesome, kid, you do it nice. I don't know. I just I love that people are just like, yeah, I get it. We're here together. So similar type of story. I took my son to a. Dodgsmack concert and we it was like an amphitheater with metal chairs that folded and I was standing out been shinning through the drumstick and it hit me dead on in the forehead and I went flying over this chair onto the ground, and like fifty people piled on top of me and get this drumstick.

15 And I rose like a phoenix. Out of that pile with the drumstick in hand and a huge mouse in my forehead. And I said, and my said goes, you're fucking crazy. That amazing. This is what love looks like, right, This is what it's all about. So tell everybody how they can connect to you guys on socials on the web by your merch. They can't listen to my show unless they buy your merch, by. The way, absolutely So I think a great place to start at Silent theory dot com because we're on all of the streaming platforms, but silent theory dot com will get you quick links to. All of those. We have most of our videos posted on the website.

56 We also have a merch store, but more importantly we have like tour dates and that kind of stuff. You can check it out because I will say, we haven't locked anything in concretely yet, but one of the places we are trying to get to is we're trying to get down like in the Dirty South stuff. And we've done a little bit in Florida. We are trying to hit some more markets in Florida that we haven't played, so definitely keep a looking. Yeah, we meet you in South Florida because nobody comes down there anymore because it's such an ordeal to come down and go all the way back up. Yeah no, I mean, we're definitely hoping, so we're Our whole goal for this tour is to hit markets we haven't hit before, so hopefully we can. You played West Palm Beach. I don't know. I'm trying to think we Dayton, No, what did we do?

36 We did? Say we played four shows of four shows with Josie Scott last year, I think, and we have yeah, four Myers, Cocoa Beach. It might have been Palm Beach that we did do. I think we played Clearwater because we did go out of our way to go see the big you know whatever. So if you want, there's a club near me called Respectable Street. Oh nice, and I could hook you up with the personal set up a date there. I like absolute words. I can hook you up anytime I hear those words. I like it. I know, right gets a little wrecked, get a little wreck Yeah. No, we'll definitely let our booking age, you know, because she's flowing around her somewhere. Yeah, Chi can email me. I'll connect you absolutely.

17 That's awesome with the person at books for that club that I'm like close friends with awesome. Yeah, we definitely and to. Kill her venue. Like, it's a little club that's iconic, Like the Misfits play there, Dri plays every year there, like so many bands play at this icon club and it's really a cool venue. I love going there, not even to do media, just to go hang out. Oh yeah, that's awesome, and especially if we can get down in your market, because you guys have been so good to us playing our music over the years and stuff like that. So it's been good to come down and meet the fans. Absolutely. And I gotta tell you, speaking of fans, like my partner in crime doing the media here, she left while it was in the middle of an interview because I get stuck back here during the day, and she went to your set and she went up to the front and she said when she tried to leave to get back here, it was so crowded she.

13 Couldn't get out of it like it was. That's fucking cool. Yeah, that's awesome. We definitely appreciate her coming over at all. But yeah, it's nice to hear that because we can see the stage and like, it looks like there's a lot of people out there, but it's good to know that there're actually were a lot of people out there. That's the cool thing about the Danni Wimmer festivals is like it doesn't matter what time of the day you play, there's somebody there. Any other final words you want to give the listeners we haven't covered already. We're gonna be releasing new music nice. I know we kind of mentioned that a little bit, but that's kind of foray. Going in to next year is gonna love it. New stuff to get released out and then touring. We're just looking to be on the road to see you guys.

54 I love it and I love you guys. And thanks for being on the Avengers and Pipe Man. Absolutely thanks for having us. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pypemin on wur CUI Radio.
