04 Hey, you love them too, that's sure. Why wake up of America. It's time for the adventures of hype Man on W fourcy dot com Westpong Beats, his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. This is the hype Man here on the Adventures of hype Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm very excited about our next guest, who has some killer new music that I'm glad didn't blow out my subwaffers, and we'll talk about that. Let's welcome to the show, Signs of the Swarm.
04 How are you? I'm doing great? How are you? Oh doing great? I fair? We'll start off right there. That I had to I had to laugh when I found out that you blew out your producers subwaffers with some heavy, heavy music. Honestly, that killed me. Man. Whenever we put on the first track of Amongst Alone, Empty just literally just just happened so damn fast. Everybody literally was on the ground just laughing, and Josh is just sitting there sweat and dude, just like, what the hell just happened. He's trying to figure it out, and he's like, what happened to? What happened to? My speaker. He's like, there's no way it blew. It hits so hard that it took the screws out.
51 Wow. Yeah, completely dismantled it from internally. That's so metal, right, Oh my god. I wish I would have been there to watch that, because I would I would have lost my shit. I put it on my story on Instagram. It was just silent. I just with my phone out. I'm like, Yo, our masters is broke Josh's computer and just everybody just started screaming. Dude, like because like it was just dead silent. Everybody knew we broke his shit, and like he's just sitting there just pondering, just like Wow, this really just happened. Then I just broke the awkward silence of just Yo, we just broke his shit, I know, Right, So I don't think that's ever happened that I know of, Like, I don't know if anytime that's happened with any band ever.
40 So you might be like going down for the record of the most badass metal band ever in history. Well, I would love to hold that title. So let's hope that that glues, right man, Right, Oh my god, that's so amazing, and so tell us a little a little bit about this new album. I know this was really a work of love, this one. You've always been heavy, You've always could have blown subwhaffers before, but I think it took it to a whole another level this time, dude. With this record, we really wanted to show how diverse the band can be. We've been heavy as fuck for years. Everyone knows that we loved playing heavy music and having a blast doing it, you know what I mean.
24 But going into this record, we wanted to add some artistic player to it, where we're kind of demonstrating a little more nostalgic pieces, you know what I mean, things that like inspired us to like create amongst the lone empty for the title track, for example, was inspired by Dead and Bloated by Stone Temple Pilots. You'd never believe that. We wanted to really hone in on our roots and everything, you know what I mean, and just really just show how everybody has their own different personality and how that affects making music, you know what I mean. And this record being created in studio essentially really gives it this real special characteristic. It makes it really special in my opinion, compared to our other work. We kinda we wanted to just show how diverse everything can be and how everybody's individual personality and own flavor kind of affects the songwriting stage, you know what I mean. Like Amongst the Law and Empty, everybody just really honed in on everything and just wanted to make a difference from all of our previous work. It was very driven by our personal experiences that we are kind of going through in that point in time.
36 I don't know, it's just something special, you know, I think it's totally special, and you know, even for me, Okay, it kind of you're gonna laugh at this. It kind of gave me a flashback because I was listening to that song, the title song, Amongst the Law and Empty, and at one point during the song, I can't remember what it was, might have been chainsaw or something. I heard this cool noise put into it, and it brought me back to when I was a kid and I was playing guitar and my father saying to me, you better give that up because you suck. You better find something else to do. But what I was really doing when he was saying that, and of course he didn't like metal anyway, But I was just experimenting with all these noises that guitar could make, and so he thought it was just noise. But you and I both know that sometimes just noise to others is like, oh wow, that sounds cool. Let's figure out what to do with that. Dude.
38 For real, though you mentioned a chainsaw, we actually have chainsaw effect. Our producer Josh Travis went out into the woods and recorded the audio of a chainsaw starting nice, and that's actually in our record. He did a lot of cool little things where he like, sure, the atmosphere of the city, you know, yeah, but just walk around the city and just record the ambience and then change it and edit and make it its own thing. And it's so cool. See. I love that because it makes your music unique, It makes you unique, and it adds cool sounds to it in a time where listen, maybe I'm snobby, but there's so many metal bands that sound exactly the same because they're following this formula that's like, I call it an algebraic equation, and that's not what metal was that I grew up on. Dude. Honestly, if I could give you a dollar every time I heard the fucking word formula, i'd be broke, all right.
46 I'm so tired of people always saying like there needs to be a formula. I remember whenever music goes just all just driven by actual emotion and artistic vision. And I'd like to say that we had to hone in on that for this record a lot, because there's some things, there's some songs where it yeah, that's radio formula there, And I'm just I don't care her about radio formula. It just sounds cool, right, And back in the day, radio formula was a bad word when it came to metal. That meant the difference between death metal, black metal, thrash metal, or hair metal. Hair metal had to formulas. The rest of us didn't want any formulas and no radio friendly either, right, So that's cool. And then what's really cool is you're doing a bunch of I like this. I don't think I've ever seen it. You're doing actually a bunch of album release shows, like instead of just one, you're going to different areas so different people can be at one of your album release shows. That's pretty cool. You're gonna be in pa Ohio, New York, Maryland, and Virginia. Yeah, I'm very excited for those release shows. It's been quite a long time since we have the opportunity to headline, So we're getting ready for some headline stuff going on in Europe in the UK, so we're like, why don't we actually just plan proper shows for the release time frame. We never really have the opportunity because we're always on tour whenever an album releases or something. You know, Yeah, that's like we don't get the opportunity to play along set list, you know what I mean. Yeah, it's like being on tour
20 while your album's house like important, you know what I mean. But being able to headline while your album's coming out, I feel like that that just makes it that much more special because you get to play more of your discography than just trying to cram in all the singles just inside the supporting slot. You know, Oh totally. And if people are coming to a record release show, they are expecting to hear the new record, you know, whereas if you're just on tour, maybe they don't want to hear the new stuff. That's if we're like on Like how we were just on tour with White Chapel. A lot of people were shocked that we played a song that was unreleased. We are playing Tower of Torso's before it is even out. Everybody else was anticipating us playing all of our hit singles. Definitely switched it up and received very well, you know what I mean. We played a lot of our hit singles in between. I love it. And then after that, you're taking off to Europe, which is cool. You're hitting some festivals there. I'm gonna be doing coverage at a festival that you're not gonna be at, so I'm kind of bummed. I was hoping you'd be at I'm gonna be at Bloodstuff. Damn No. I remember getting We were trying to make that one work and we just to do the one fest or do the other fest and the other fest was it was something crazy, you know what I mean. So I couldn't say no to that, of course. And I go through that same problem because I go and I go and tor and do radio coverage at festivals, and sometimes I have to make some very very very hard choices, right, you know, planning on a year in general,
52 man, you gotta be careful, you know what I mean? I know, right, And then there's you know, you have to two festivals the same weekend, and it's a hard decision sometimes, you know. It's like, I do coverage for healthest but Grasspop is always at weekend too, and I'm like, hmm, I wonder if maybe I'll try doing that one next year. But you gotta pick one or the other. That could be a video for the album. Just watching the subwhiffer and the screws. You could even take it where the screws like fly across the room. I got, I know, I got pictures were laying around here somewhere. I know, I do nice. I love it. Well, look forward to seeing you sometime out there at one of the festivals or one of the shows.
