04 Hey, you love them too, that's sure from woe. Why wake up of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipeman on W four cy dot com West pom Beats, his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man God. I see, this is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man w fort c Y Radio. And I'm here with Kaylee Wolf of Rivals' Best Jack Josh Nice. And you're already like kindred spirit to me, as I was telling you, like, you know, two months ago, I got rid of my blue for a little while, but you have blue hair, except your blue hair. See, I like that color too, like mine was more turquoise. But I've tried it all.

21 Yeah, that color didn't necessarily work as well on me like it does on you. You have to get it really blonde. Like for some reason, this color blue just does not stick to anything but blonde. And I have gray, which the color the fantasy colors don't stick to that at all. So I'm like, actually, I've been doing so many years that I'm like an expert on which to use and stuff like that, because you know, you want it to stand more than a couple of days. Yes, literally, yes, my hair wouldn't touch water for like a week. That's the best way to do it. I'll probably wash my hair once a week. Yeah, maybebe twice if if we just sweat a lot, which in a summer on tour it's kind of expected, but totally And I try those uh you know, the color ones, the ones I have a color and never really did anything. I thought it was like a waste. It just messed up my bathroom there. Yeah, yes, literally, So tell us about Rivals. Yeah, we're like an alternative rock bands. I guess you could call it. We're from la Um dark pop, alternative rock, some metal moments and stuff, but um, yeah, we're from Los Angeles. We kind of live all over now though we're Nashville, Florida fucking everywhere, well part of Florida, same Pete. Oh nice. So did you just get to drive over here? I wish. Yeah. Yeah, we're actually on tour with set it off right now, so we had to we had to

52 be line back to Florida. We were just in Florida last week too, So well, I'm glad you guys are in Florida because so many bands like to miss our state. I live here and it is a drag. Especially I'm in South Florida, so it's a drag. You guys come all the way down and then go all the way back up. Yeah, to hit essentially one city. So it's like I from like a touring logistics I get it, but from like a family like side, it's like it does suck. So like you guys are kind of expected to come to like Orlando or Tampa to get a show, which is unfortunate exactly. But I will say Tampa has some of the best venues, Like, yeah, I Saint Pete's Janis is pretty lit too nice. I love it there, even like it's like as media, I get treated better in Tampa than I do in West Palm, and West Palm's my home. It's like everybody's got ego there.

40 You go to these venues and you got these like gatekeepers. Like one time I literally had to text the band I just interviewed to come out and tell the guy to let me in. Yeah, West I had a media pass. Yeah. It sounds like La, right, And I grew up in La in the eighties, Okay, and it wasn't like that then. It was anything goes then. Yeah, I think so I went to like the first Metallica show ever, the first Slayer show ever. That eighties, my first club show on the Sunset Strip, which was my first club show ever. I was like, I'm never going to a real concert ever again.

23 It was Motley Crue before they even had an album, so they weren't glam yet. They were horror punk in Yeah, they were trying to light the Roxy on fire. I was gonna say, what was it was the Whiskey or the Roxy or yeah, it was the Roxy. And then we all went over to Rainbow. And now when I go to Rainbow now, I'm like how I was like fifteen and sixteen and fourteen and thirteen, I'm like, how the fuck did I get into the Rainbow? But you just walked in with the bands? That's what I mean. Like it wasn't like back then. It was like it didn't matter. You know, you did whatever, everybody did whatever it was. It's like anything goes, you know. It was. It was kind of crazy. Are you from? I lived in Aguera, thousand Oaks, West Lank and Marina del Rey. Okay, yeah, well I went to Aguera High before anybody. No new Way Guerra was yeah before there was a Canyon Club. Yeah, like I wish there was a Canyon Club. Well, I was a teenager. I had to go down to Sunset Strip or the Troubadour or down to Pasadena or like there was a famous venue in Racida in the valley called the Country Club. No, yeah, all the bands played there. As a matter of fact, I knocked my teeth out on a stage dive at the country Club. Yeah.

40 It was funny because the band I was there for. They they just came out with a new album after like thirty thirty five years. Oh my god, are they They have to be dead now? You would think why it was years ago? I know, right, literally the eighties was forty three years ago. Can you believe that? I can't believe it. Yeah, if there were thirty band for thirty years already before that, No, no, no, no there. No. They came out recently with so they were big. They were big in lay back then, like they toured with Motorhead, but they never made it, you know. So I interviewed them recently because they have a new album out. Yeah, and I was friends with them. I even like used to roadie for him and stuff. And I'm like let's haven't talked to you in like thirty four years. You probably wouldn't remember me by name, but I'm the one that knocked my teeth out at your show. I was stage dive. He's like, oh man, I was wondering what happened you? That was like, you know, I felt really bad because it was like somebody died at one of our shows.

39 It was what it was like. He goes, you were the most severe casualty of La metal in his and I'm like, I'll take that badge. Like now, I'll take it. Maybe back then i'd be like, oh that stuck. And then and then my bro, he was like, who was there with me? Then he is like, yeah, you definitely got the most hardcore ward because two weeks later your your nose was all busted up, your face was taped up, and you showed up to the Venom show. Oh my, So here we are at Welcome to Rockville with you guys. And here we are Florida and you guys are going to rock this place. You're really excited. H have we ever played a festival in Florida?

24 I don't think we have. Is our first Florida? I know, well, breaking our cherry. It's probably gonna have to take this off after like ten seconds into the songs. You know, you think that, But I have this unarching or extreme aptitude to heat. I can wear a full coat and be fine. So we're all you Florida people. She's wearing a long sleeved shirt. It's a button up and uh yeah, I mean I permanently wear shorts. Now, did I live in Florida? Yeah, Like pantstone exist in Florida. I have my winter shorts in my summer shorts, spring shorts. Come on, there's no spring in Florida. We have two seasons hot and hot. Yeah, hot and humid hot. We have like four days of winter, I know, right. And it's funny though, because I come from originally like New York and New Jersey, so I'm used to winner. But it's funny. Wink gets forty here, it's freaking freezing.

26 Like I can wear a T shirt in forty degrees in New Jersey. Here I am wearing a jacket. It's cold. It's that wetness in the air. Yeah, it makes it a freezing like four days. I was like, holy shit, Like this is not Florida. I think maybe every band as training to be a band playing live outside at festivals should always start their training in Florida because if you can hack it here, you can hack it anywhere. Yoga and jap jump around with your guitar though though, So tell our listeners, uh, you know what else you got going on after this, and what stuff they need to check out and yeah, good stuff.

07 So yeah, we we are actually currently writing a record. Um. We put out a record during COVID, which was the weirdest thing in the world. I love that, you know, everyone do it much respect because we did it. That's when we needed music. Most music is therapy and yeah, like no live music, and then you're telling bands not yeah, yeah, no wonder everybody was pissed. Our label at the time kept telling us. We were like, I don't think we should do it, Like we should wait, and I was like, we have to put out a record. It's been three years, Like, we have to put out a record. We need to put out something. So we ended up slow releasing it over like six months. So we just slowly put out singles and stuff, um and hoping that COVID would end right so we could tour. And then it was it was March of twenty twenty one, and I was like, we just got to we ought to just put it out, like there's I don't know when this is gonna end, so fuck it. Um.

58 But now we're running another one. So we're coming upon another three years again because it seems to be our cycle. I don't know why, it just happens that way. Um. And yeah, so the goals literally this year is just right right right right right. We just put out a brand new single called man eater Um, which is my favorite song I think we've ever written. It's got a choir I love. I've always wanted to do that, so cool. Yeah, so I'm really hYP hyped about it. So, um, what do you got going on, Josh, I'm feeling really I'm feeling really fresh right now because you know, you know, it's a nice breeze, so yeah, I mean managers out right now. I'm stoked on it. Um. I can't wait to see what's gonna come out next because we've been writing a lot of really really cool jams over these last few months, and um, I'm just really excited to see what everyone's gonna think about the new stuff. And I'm just really excited to being here. Honestly, like Slipnots playing today, That's one of my favorite bands of all time.

56 Literally, Conversion is like playing right after us. That's literally my other you make it. We're just talking about this other day. Like we grew up listening to some of these bands in high school, were about the same age, and it's just like so surreal for for all of us. I think to really just be here today and I'm just really stoved. So do you see me smiling? That's just me. I'm just here for the catering. Is it good? It's pretty good? Yeah, they had lemon bars in there. Whoa trip coffee? Because that's my favorite part about it can be a hidden or miss, but Danny Wimmer knows how to put on Oh yeah he does. You know he's He's a satan sent from if there is a heaven. I was at one. I was at one festival where the band had to go through general admission to get the catering, and I'm like, what, what the fuck? What the fuck is that? I know?

43 Right, like, if I was the artist, I probably wouldn't want to eat um. I just wanted to say how pumped time to be at the Daytona Speedway, right, like I live, I still live in La No one still lives, no Way, and like we I never even thought that I would come here unless it was for a race track kind of thing, and like getting to drive on the race track to come over here was like, I'm sure that's the first time. Hopefully it's the first time you hear today. But I was like shaking bake just once. I did it nice. You know. It's funny because I just did mention the last interview that I have a brother. Every time I talked about the festivals, he could care less. But last crazy. But last night I said, I'm driving on the Daytona Speedway and it's like send a pick that I knew what it would take. Yeah, that's what it take. I'm like, ha ha, you could have been here. Yeah. I'm like, ha ha, you could have been here driving on the Daytona Speedway. So I literally I texted my dad and I was like, guess where I am And He's like where And I was like, I'm literally at the Indie or five Hundie Indie. I literally texted him. I was like, this is where dal Earnhard died. And he goes no way, and he's like, send me picks. I was like, okay, So I started sending him the videos of everything and he's like, that is so cool. And I grew up going to races with my dad, so it's kind of a cool little it's a cool perspective to be in and and see how much that embankment goes up a post from the stands that angle like sixty degrees And I was saying,

15 I have a jeep, like I'm like, oh, I'm gonna roll. Yeah, I guess enough speed. Plus it's kind of wild, especially this being the first time I've ever been here to see all the in nerds, like all the inside stuff, because like, yeah, we went past the pit stop thing. Yeah, it's different from the crowd, like you see those stands. It's wild, Like it's you could be you know, one hundred feet in the air and you're looking everything like a speck, but like, no, we're like in the pit. Okay, So I have some I guess a trivia question for you. See all those seats up there, Why are those seats different than other seats? Why are they all different colors? Is that because that's the bengo Like if you look on TV. You can't tell, you can't tell. Yeah, it looks like the place is full trickery. Kind of random about that. Um, I was on a movie set once where they used to blow up people to fill the stands, like sex. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it kind of like that.

18 It was for one of the Chipmunks. Actually extras. They had to use sex. They don't have to pay. Yeah, you don't have to blow up dolls. Yeah. Valid. I think that's why that's why people use the blow up sex dolls to They don't have to pay them either. That's pretty sure. Yeah, they always look surprised. Oh one's gonna go missing its out the door walking with it in his arm. Oh that's great. You know, it is funny to your mentioned the venue because Danny Wimmer has some cool venues, like in July it is incarceration. Yeah, we played that a couple of years back. It was so cool. I think I remember when you played that, And you know, it's it's interesting too because my youngest are sometimes I'll bring her to festivals and and every time I do a festival, because I go and I do all of them all over the US and UK and Europe, and she's like, she's like, are you excited, And I'm like, I don't know if excited it's the word when you're doing it every weekend. But then when I did shaw Shank for the first time, that was cool and I was like, I called her up.

24 I was I'm like, now I'm excited. I'm calling you from the prison yard of Shawshank. That was really cool. I like that. It was so funny. One morning, I was taking a picture and there was this other artists. They're taking picture and he goes, hey, can you take my picture? I'll take yours. He goes, look at us. We're fanboying out on shaw Shank prison. There's all these cool bands around and you guys are like, oh, look exactly. Oh man, I got one section where, like I think a Sylvester Stallone movie was filmed there too, and they still have all the padding for the fake doors or the fake oh yeah, yeah. The guy was showing us in the prison during we were like walking around. There was a fake part of the stairway where Sylvester salone like did an action scene. And there was a fake doorway too that you can punch through too that I don't know. They were just filmed it there, but they were like showing it off to everyone. Well that was a great, great little kind of extract. Like last year, I was hiding and scaring people as they were going by, because you know it is it is that actual prison is haunted. Yeah, so I was playing that up really good. Might as well saying that they for Halloween they like do a haunted thing and they have it at the festival too. It's usually in the basement. It's called Blood Prison. Yeah, but it really is haunted, So like you don't know if it's the haunted attraction or a real haunt.

52 Yeah right. Yeah. There's also a place in the prison that if you take a picture, it's a felony. Really why because it's a window that you can see right down to the other prison and so you could be planning somebody's escape from there. Wow. Yeah, So no selfies, no shit. So how's everybody connect to you guys and socials on the web? Check out all your stuff and buy your merch because that's the only way bands survived. Yes, it's literally the only way we survive. Um. Yeah, everything is we are our vls. It's we are rivals, rivals without the vowels are literally our Twitter, Instagram, YouTube are even our website is we are r vls dot com. Check out our new single man eater.

36 Yes it is badass, so thank you. And if they don't check it out and they don't buy your merch, they can't listen to my show anymore. Perfect Bye. Oh any final words anybody want to say before let you go shaking? Bake Cacha little ten ounce for pound baby Jesus the margic Man just all freaking That was the best final words ever. Like you guys were like just playing the role perfectly. I love it. That movie is great. We should watch it tonight. Okay, there we go. You got the plan for tonight after slipnot I know everyone else's partying. We'll be watching Talladega nights if you need us. So see that's the thing I'm also I just want to say, did you know there's a facility in Norway that Oria has built a doomsday vault for the recipe in there of Oreo? Who I go? There that's the next step fact for today. Well, thank you for having us today. Oh well, thank you for being here. Welcome to rock Fillem. Thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man on W for CUI Radio.
