04 Hey, you have THENTO censure Wow Cray you you why Become of America. It's time for the Adventures of pipe Man on W four C why dot com. West pomp Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man in the Life of Middless, killing news dreams, the saying Owen has doing. Oh I'm not giving up. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventure of pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with Cash Mark Julian from the rock band Red Light King. And so what about your music now, I'm just playing pipe with them? Man, tell us about our music Ghost Bang Boom. So did you get your band name because you were hanging out in Amsterdam Red Light Hey, it's where we should go with that. Well, let's just go with that. That should be your new thing. You know. It's rug District Reli King. Yes, you're the King all stuff. Yeah, of okay, fucking Aftershock though, man, Okay, last time I saw you was at this other festival I won't name. But how you fucking love Aftershock though? Oh? Solid?

40 Yeah, for sure. It's great, great crowd, great great venue, good good staff and also just a great collaboration of artists. We get to see so many people, so many friends that we don't normally see. So and then they're all hanging out like cause, free drinks, Yeah, free drinks, freak drink bar. And do you know there's a chef to be serving food in a little while? Yeah, Mark Knowles. What do you can order? They're cooking up some pizza right now. I think pizza, tacos and hamburgers, and they got like carne of sada tacos, cauliflower tacos, fish tacos and chicken tacos and hungry. Last time, I think it's so it's Chris Santo's Yes, and he's obviously a fantastic chef. Last time, yeah, Chopped. If you know the show Chopped, he's on it all the time. Last time he was doing ribs. What I forget what festival we were on, but he was back there and he was doing ribs. Louder than Life, Yeah it was. Yeah, it's fantastic.

39 We're really lucky. We're lucky. That's all so louder than life After Shock, Which one did you like better? I'm not gonna say which one I like better. I'll tell you what they are all. The dam was warmer, that's true. Here was pretty hot. Main stage are louder. Well, there you go. That was kind of fun. But this stage was fun too, I'll be honest with you. It's kind of cool vibe too, with the park and the trees and all that. I like the vibe for sure. People there and get some shade under the trees here. It's not just all you know. That's what a lot of people were doing, like on our stage, hiding under the trees. And you know over vip here they have all the trees are there and picnic benches. You just hang out on the picnic bench chill and you got a great view from there too.

32 But I like being in the pit. People watching for sure. Oh yeah, people watching it. These are awesome. You know what I noticed the most in the pit yesterday corn and not the band corn corn. People in corn out corn. Yeah, people in cornering the cob out thing. Because you get it with the like E lookte on it at the end of the cheese or the butter. Yeah, I get it. Okay, you know it's either corner or banana in the pit. Yeah, that's yeah, that's weird. Yeah, there are some characters. Yeah, but that's what's that, What's that's what makes it special. It's funny because last night I was standing on the stage for Turnstile and the only thing I could notice was the banana in the pit. I mean like that's that was the only thing that stood out? Did the banana in the pit? Was I'm missing something?

24 He had the banana? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Now that would have been like, I think you a moshed that and late afternoon on a banana costume and going out into the pit and they gotta give it up for that guy. I've come. You can always see Waldough at the festival. You can't find Waldo in the books, but you can see him manifest. Oh he's here somewhere for sure, definitely somewhere. So what's going on after after Chuck? Wow, We're gonna do some writing and uh we were putting out some acoustic versions of songs that we have, like we put out in Our Blood and I had to heard which is another song on our new record that yeah we're doing. We did like an acoustic things. It's totally different the way left field and uh, you know we we uh we like it. Sometimes we just look at each other, and I'm like, dude, this sounds like a different song, but it's it's still true to it.

15 Well, that's it cool as an artist to like be able to do something different for change, you know, and like mix it up a little bit. Yeahs as like sometimes you think when you record a song, that's it for the rest of its life and its existence. But you know, basically what inspired is that when we play live, we call a lot of audibles. We changed sections, we change arrangements. We've lengthd in solos or moved songs around sometimes play them in different keys, different tempos. And I thought, well, let's just reimagine a bunch of songs on this record. It also shows the strength of the song itself because you can you can rap a song any way you like it, in different genres, different sounds.

00 The song is fundamentally solid and has a good melody and a good lyric and it's it's definitely got a chance to be well presented any any way you like it. I often right now, just with either a piano or a guitar, And if it doesn't stand up, why put anything around it? Yeah, under process where we're at, and maybe I'm doing it wrong. I don't know. I know, I think you're one hundred percent right, you know, because and I think too, like, as an artist, don't you want to express yourself in different ways? Like why do you want write the same song over and over again? And I think it's the reinvention is interesting. It's an interesting play because like hip hop guys remixed their own songs.

43 Yeah, they get a DJ or a different producer to put a different beat behind their shit. So I was like, well, that's that's also kind of what inspired like why not. Yeah, generally Rockeyes will do an acoustic version, but our our newer versions aren't just acoustic. It's a different arrangement. Is it's got different sounds, different field, different vibe, And you know what you were talking about the live aspect. That's what I like in watching live band. There's bands I could watch a million times, and then there's other bands that I like them live, but doing all these festivals, I'll see him like ten times in the year and I'm like, I was just out there there night. I won't say which band, but one band, the girls with I kept saying what the guy was gonna say on stage? And you know, a band's like that script, right, script, And she's like, how do you know? How do you know what he was gonna say? I'm like, it's the same thing I've heard for five years now, so I know I actually know what you're talking about.

43 I'm sure I absolutely do. Uh. Here's the thing though, with with our good friend cast here, you never know what's gonna come out of his mouth. I love that, seriously. Sometimes we'll walk off stage and be like, did you just say that? Like not a bad way, It's just like every day he'll tell stories, he'll be up there, you know, give him background as a song. What's funny about that? When I was interviewing Jordan from Bringing Me to Horizon, he was like, yeah, we're kind of scared sometimes because we never know what Ali's gonna say right exactly. But that's part of the fun. Yeah, you know, because I get it. I get what happens after you know, if you've been on tour for a long time, you're playing, say the same set, or maybe you try to switch it up a little bit, and eventually you fall into similar pattern. So like all that worked or that didn't. So I kind of get it, and that makes sense to me. But at the same time, there are other bands that have it like Scared, Like it's almost like it's on the prompter. Oh yeah, I don't ever want to be on authentic And that's that's it. Like I just like, I have an idea of what I'm gonna say, but then that usually changes during the stuff. Well that's keeps it, keeps it real for me. You'll never see me with script or notes or anything like, because it takes a life of its own. Every experience is different, right, Yeah, so today today I wasn't perfect, but I I didn't say anything. I didn't mean you know what I mean. I felt it felt good, like but you

18 I think our music is speaks for itself, and so a lot of times I'm trying to get out of the way. I don't want to confuse the message. And everyone has their own message and experience with our music. A lot of people were at a certain time in their life or you know, a lot of people play like old man at their dad's funeral, or they play pulling my hand because they got out of recovery, or there's there's a something people share in it. I don't want to ruin that for him either. Yeah, because that's the key to a good song, by the way. You know, you write it authorically from your perspective, but when somebody else in the crowd can put their own perspective to it, you know, I think generally these days, I'm we're all pretty light hearted. We we we know, we've been doing this a long time. We were doing this because we love it. We're not, you know, in it for money or you know, well, you'd be an idiot if you didn't like it, you were doing it for money. Nowadays, well, I think I think there's a way to monetize music in a way that it becomes the focus, especially now in a digital age. There are like I don't I don't spend a lot of time on socials, but a lot of people say that's the only that's the key, and that's the only way to become something in this business. And that frustrates a guy like me who comes from the heart and finds that experience for me a bit. Uh, well, nothing's real

50 on social it's not real. Redundant. Yeah, now I want to, I would love to. Sometimes I find something very authentic and I share that on social media, and then it becomes real for me. So I'm still trying to find that thing that I connect with so that everyone can connect and find our music. Do you mean you're not doing tiktoks? I'm not, but I'm not afraid to do it. I just haven't found my thing. Like I don't dance, but I know, like I put our song up me Ryan and Old Harley with Cold Killer playing, and it got some views on TikTok because you go a lot of guys like Harley and I got a lot of guys like rock and roll. There it is. I don't know.

31 I think the key like on TikTok as an example, is just doing stupid shit that maybe isn't even related to your music type of thing. You never know what's gonna work now. It's like you have no idea whether or not somebody's can connect going to connect with one thing or the other. So you just try to stay I don't know, just as honest and uh, just focus on what you want to hear and what do you want to do. I think more than any other industry, you need to be honest. In this industry. People can tell. I can see on stage whether somebody's being authentic and if they're loving it. And that's their passion, or if they're just up there doing it, oh for sure, for sure you can see immediately and I'll walk away. I want a good live show, and I like when you mix it up different arrangements because then I'm like, oh, I don't want to miss this set. Who knows what's gonna happen right where? It's like some it's like, well, yeah, I'll hang back here, Mabia. I already know what's gonna happen, you know, And I don't think there's any rules about I agree with you, first of all, but I I mean, you see, there's lots of bands, any band that can get out and be on stage night after night, day after day. However they do it whether or not it's you know, they have a script that they don't or you know. I tend to gravitate towards the more authentic performances. But I don't give anyone any shade about being up.

54 Just the fact that they're doing it alone is hard enough. I agree, because it's hard. I just respect all the bans that are able to make a living or just go out and sleep. A whole business is hard, you know, Like my heart goes out to every artist because man, especially the new ones, especially younger bands. Man, it's it's a different world. But you got to do today. Like you know, it's not like some record labels saying here, exactly, go party fellas, We're gonna make you rich exactly exactly. You gotta work your ass off and that's what I respect about you. Guys. Are any artists nowadays? You're you're doing it. You're working your ass off, and man, you guys rocking. I'm so happy you're here it after show, Oh, we appreciate you. Man, that's awesome. There any other final words? You need to leave the listeners with our stuff? You want to tell them we haven't covered yet.

46 You know, we're thankful after all these years I've known Kaz, I've been playing with Kaz for over twenty years now. Wow, the fact that I'm still out here coming to festivals like Aftershock and being able to play to people and see people sing along, that's it's insane, And you know it's it's hard, right, but it's it's not an easy gig. But you know, to come out and be able to do it again and continue to do it to blow your mind too, that you like been doing it for twenty years, I don't I don't like doing right. That does I'm sure like twenty years, but sometimes it feels like forty. Love it well, Thanks guys, and thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you, Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man on w for CUI Radio
