04 Hi, you love done too? Yes, that's true. W for see Wow for you. Your Welcome to Rockville, North America's largest rock festival is finally here. This is the Pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four Cy Radio, and I'm. Here with Aaron Valentino and we are one half of Mice and Men. Nice. So I was just saying before the interview, like, it was so cool that I didn't have to do any interviews at Sonic Temple because I caught your set there and it was badass? Was it as badass or better here at Welcome to Rockville? I don't like comparing.
45 It was as That's why we say as. The only good thing about well, not the only good thing. But we had a thirty five minute set at Sonic Temple, and today we only had thirty minutes. Oh it's kind of been a little bummed and we don't get to play as much. But hopefully they ask us back next year. So what makes you decide which extra five minutes of songs you're gonna play? Truthfully, the Spotify numbers usually whatever song's more popular with our fans. We just try and nice accommodate. Yeah, we want to make sure that we're playing the fun songs that everyone wants to hear because everyone's just out in the song, getting celtic, getting just exhausted, and we want them to be able to hear their favorite song. Does that blow your mind too, when it's this hot and you're looking out to crowd and they're freaking rashing it up all over with this heat.
32 Oh yeah. I literally told the audience today, you guys do not have to go extra, will go extra for you, and they still went extra. So I threw my extra water out there because people were asking for water. They were done seriously, like it's crazy out there. The heat's insane, and I saw them down there and they're like water water. So I just hooked them my extra water and conserved what I could because if I can give that much energy, I want them to be able to give that much energy. See that's so cool. I love that. We love the fans there. Why we're here exactly. And you guys have some news that you've dropped. Let's talk about that. Yeah. Absolutely, it's a new single called Another Miracle, and we just signed with Century Media Records. Nice and yeah, we've. Been working on a lot of new music so it's fun to finally get to share that after what feels like forever.
19 That's one of our songs. I love it. So the new music, how you think you've evolved, how you think the music is more of you now? I would say on this new album and this new single, I think it's the most potent distillation of all of the elements of our band. We're essentially nine albums deep, so just chasing what excites us in the moment, and I think what we came up with was something that's like very energetic. We have a lot of like big choruses, a lot of melody because we like we like doing stuff that's really heavy, but then we are all suckers for melody. So I feel like a good combination of that. I love that you say that too, because I'm a metal headway back and I like it really heavy, really fast, but there still has to be a melody to it.
03 It can't just be like and nothing to it. Yeah, you're not gonna be humming the breakdown. You're gonna be humting with the chorus exactly. Yeah. And I also think, man, it's so hard for artists like you that like you're nine deep now to come up with something newer and better, because you always you're trying to become better as a musician and put something out more than everybody wants to hold onto that old garage days thing, but as a musician you don't. So it always amazes me that you can just come out with new material after that long. What happens in your process that makes that happen. We never stopped writing. I think once we're finished with a project that we usually kind of start working on ideas immediately, so there's always some sort of bridge to follow.
51 Versus if you just put out an album and then you wait a couple of years before you start trying to tap into that inspiration, you might end up with something that's vastly different than the last thing. But if you just keep going and rolling, then it ends up feeling more like an evolution rather than just something completely different. We also love doing that too, so it's but I. Love that I've never heard ours put it that way, and it makes so much sense to just keep doing it. It's like anything you build on the previous and so by time you have the album, it's not something completely new, it's something that was evolving since the last album. Yeah, definitely. Have you ever seen my bowel vest? I don't think you have. That's badass. I love that bit. Okay. So I brought out at ship Rock for the first time. I decided it's a new thing in my interviews because Winston from Parkway Drive was geeking over at big time. It has blood from me climbing the Marshall Stack and Swan diving and the crowd moving and Erico no teeth. Obviously, you can tell these patches have been through some pits.
55 And I drew what years is from. Eighty one is when it first was blank. The blank slate started in eighty one. Cool man, righty for this? Love that now. I love seeing the old designs from that era too. It's cool to see like there's still a lot of the same metal elements, but you're seeing it in its early days, right, which is very cool. This is before kill them all, okay, and like that. That's what I keep getting is like when didn't Metallica use a devil and that's jumping the fire? Oh sick man? And they didn't even have a sleigh or patch yet. So I just did my own thing. So I was in LA and people thought I was a gangbanger and that was my gang name. Wow, but you could see only be so lucky. You could see all the diversity there that you weren't even allowed to have back then.
44 Wow. Yeah, like you couldn't be I was a long hare. I couldn't go to punk shows and Pump's cann't go to my shows. Oh and that was it was stupid man. Yeah, it made no sense to me whatsoever. And it's like I loved GDH, Discharge Dri and. Yeah do that SHITSTI, all that shit core Man. And some of the bands that I absolutely love that couldn't see till like several years. That's what's cool about these festivals now is you get such a big melting pot of all kinds of bands, from the amazing heroes that we all grew up listening to to like our bands, and even the next generation of bands that are out here. And I think that's what's so cool about seeing the music scene evolved so much, is to be able to have it be more like a community as opposed to something where.
28 It's more totally its own thing in each genre. I love that it's a melting pot out here, and really, DWP festivals are the best ever. Danny Wimmer has done that, Like, it wasn't like that till Danny Wimmer. That's awesome and it takes somebody who can champion all kinds of alternative music to be able to make something amazing. And we're just so grateful that he includes us in all these festivals and we're happy to be playing more this year. Nice you have The next one coming up is Louder than Life. I'm pretty sure we have a couple more besides that, and then we're doing Aftershock in California, which is I love that. Let show in California this year, So if you're out there, come mash and rock with us.
09 When does have When the last time you played after Shock and Happy. Sixteen or seventeen? Yeah, yeah, it was a really long time ago, so we're happy to be back. I love that, Ben, Yeah, we love it. It's the coolest media artist lounge too. Oh cool. That's good. It probably wasn't like that then, but now they have this like media artist lounge and everybody just hangs out there because it's so cool. Yeah Neat, you know, well you'll see us there, I'm sure, I'm sure. Yeah, So anything else you want to share with the listeners before I send you off to cad. Yeah. Absolutely, I wanted to touch base and let you know because we were talking about the new music and everything like that. We just launched a fan community that we've been going in on tour and chatting with fans, and it's kind of like a fan club, but it's kind of our own thing.
52 It's called mice Space. I love that. That's so fucking cool. And it actually released a documentary on there of us creating new music. I wanna go over there. We've got a bunch of videos from our iPhones and stuff like that. Like we're digging in the crates and putting up some old demos and even some new demos, and we're gonna be engaging with everybody that's on there, and we have a very special rockumentary about the creation of our new music. If you like that, go to MySpace dot club and you can join today and you get like a shirt and we do raffles for all kinds of signs stuff, we do exclusive vinyl and we're just gonna we're just gonna have fun with it, and we love connecting with our fans. They're why we're still here. So it's just something of a way that we can give back and give a little more of ourselves and have some fun with them too. They can see our actual side of how we are if they don't listen to interviews or whatever.
46 That's cool. Can I transfer all my MySpace followers to my Space? Yeah, hopefully we'll see. I think I still have a MySpace profile. I'ven checked in forever, but I have somewhere of omac posting, so it's posting there. I haven't seen. I don't know. It's like Lars is different. It's m I c sp A ce dot c l u B. I'm glad you did it because some people be like, where is it? Where is? But I'm gonna have sign up because that's cool as shit. I like that so much. Yeah, we gotta. We're always uploading stuff on there, and it's just it's something cool with so many social media platforms and stuff like obviously we still update our Instagrams and tiktoks and whatever. But if you want a place where there's a lot of like minded of mice listeners and fans of all kinds of music, pop in there and hang out with us.
31 We're in the chat room and uploading stuff in the forum, and we even have some behind the scenes stuff from our music video shoot for our new single Another Miracle, which was super Sick. We shot for eighteen hours. Wow. We did all the acting and all the performing in it and it was an insane day, but the video came out super sick. Nice all right, cool man, And see that's the best stuff I think all day, because I like, I think more bands should do that, just create a community for the fan, and like you're giving back to them. That's why it seems like, of. Course, that's why they're here. And we have just so much. We have a plethora. I mean, we've been in a band almost sixteen years, so we got tons of stuff. And it's just something cool and it's a cool outlet for us to like reflect on the band too and listen to old demos and laugh about it and voice notes on our phone and it's just silly shit, but like it's fun and we're having fun doing it.
21 So if that sounds like something. Cool to you, check it out MySpace dot club and yeah, we're doing these festivals rest of the year and be on the lookout for more new music. Nice. Thanks for being here and welcome to Rockville. And ooh, it's cooling down. I think there's some cloud covers. Now you can enjoy the rest of the festival. And good Katerie, awesome. We will do that. Thank you so much, Thank you so much. Thank you for being on the Adventures pipe Man once again, of course anytime. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man. I'm w for CUI Radio.
