04 Hey, you live on too? Is such sure? I'm four see Wow, Wake up America. It's time for the adventures. So pipe Man on W four cy dot com. West pom Beats is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man, Hollywood bo helephone da lelephone.

48 That soon's the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with our next guest, who we talked to last year and we're talking to again this year because there's some cool shit to talk about. So let's welcome to the show. Jake from of Limbo. That is me. You know what's funny is clean from and of together makes you hesitate? Yeah? Or the worst is when you have to say of Limbo is the worst? Yeah, that would be terrible. But I you saw me hesitate there because I was about to say from a second time. It's I said from Oh it's so funny. You know the English language, you just never know sometimes yeo. So I want to talk about something that's really cool here, and that is, you know, basically a California Demon.

47 What is that? California Demon is our play on the old classic song the California Dream and song It's the basic story behind a dude is wide eyed, innocent, young upstart that comes to California with hopes and dreams of making it big and whatever different avenue that might be, and then they sign their soul away for the exchange of fame and fortune. But we you know you can take it. You can take it as the literal sense, which is the actual signing on a flesh tablet to the devil himself and losing your soul at the end of it, or you can take it in the more metaphorical sense, which is the way that I would normally have always believed it was, which is to sell away your integrity like these pop stars do, or now now even more common than not, these rock put togethers that I'm seeing more and more are doing where they they basically sign on the dotted line to some record label, and then the record label tells them exactly what songs they're gonna make. They get writers to write the songs for them, and they put them in funding little outfits, and then they hum and haw over the way that their social media posts go, etc. And they end up being nothing but a puppet. So that's always the way that I've taken that that sort of cliche to mean or trope to mean. But there are people in America

20 these days that absolutely believe the satanic panic thing of it, and the record industry seems to be very much feeding into that, with the Sam Smiths of the world doing these crazy satanic performances at the Grammys. That's getting more and more prevalent. So our uncle happens to believe absolutely that there's a real Satan and that everybody that's successful in the world, be it actors or actresses or musicians or whatever, they're all actually signing deals with a literal Satan. Don't know if I believe that, but I'll tell you what. They're the elite, as Alex Jones would say, are definitely getting up to the pretty weird stuff with all their bohemian grove parties and all the rest of it. So I don't know where exactly on the spectrum of it all island, but I certainly thought it was a very fun topic story to tell in a rock and roll song. Yeah, well, the elite, they're the Reptilians, aren't they. Yeah, who knows, man, I don't know. I don't know how far down the rabbit hole and every person goes. But yeah, there's the old reptilian thing, there's the adren of chrome thing. And the reason that Angelina Jolie doesn't look so good anymore is because her supply of baby blood has been reduced because Kay Junior is stopping the adrene of chrome blood supply lines and all that. Yeah, it goes pretty far down the rabbit hole if you want to. But I would say I'm on the moderate side of how deep I dive into that stuff. Well, I go right back to

50 the beginning what you said, because I moved out to California, not of my choosing, but my dad brought me out there in nineteen eighty. So, as you're right, you're right in the middle of the satanic panic right there, then, dude, Right, So, as you can imagine, I was very evolved with that eighties metal scene in La And as you can imagine, as you were saying that stuff, I was. I was teleporting myself back to sitting backstage when a lot of these hair metal bands were signing with the record labels, and the record labels were saying I heard it with my own ears. Okay, you're gonna dress like this, You're gonna play like this, this is what you're gonna do, and we're gonna make you rich and famous. You'll have more money than you could imagine. And I remember at that moment time I decided the music industry was not the route I was going to take. At that moment time, like, and my literal thing was because I've always had such a passion for music and you know, I wanted to be in that scene until that, and I was like, I am not wanting my soul for money. And what I meant by that too, is like music was my passion. So then, you know, as I became an adult, I went in the business world and I sold my soul there, but that was different because it wasn't my soul. It was you know, I was just working opposed to trading my passion. Because

23 the bomb line is, yeah, is it nice for musicians like yourself to be able to make a living? Yes, but at what cost? Yeah? Absolutely, And I think it's still happening today in that sense. Dude. If you listen to the sort of top metal pop metal charts these days, all of them are full of sense, and more and more of these bands are using backing tracks and stuff like that. And even dude, even auto tuned vocals is happening. I'm told by one of our sound engineer friends that they not only have backing tracks, they have big rack auto tuners as well as obviously having backing vocal tracks as well. It's like, jeez, yeah, where do you draw the line between it being a live performance and being a Milli Vanilli situation? Yeah, and you know, especially when it's live, okay. So I can understand maybe sometimes in a studio to make things better, just like we're going to record this and my engineer is going to edit to make it better. But there's a difference between better and just changing it completely number one and number two to live thing. So I go out on tour and I cover you know, music festivals, and I just got back literally yesterday from one, and this girl I was hanging with she says to me during one of the band's performances, and she's like, is it just me or does it look like his lips are not moving at the same time as the music? And I'm like it's I'm like, it's not

56 you, okay. And you know, I come from lead this time that you didn't do any of that crap okay, you know, and now it's it's rather acceptable. I've heard a bunch of artists like sit there and make it like it should be okay. And there was even one scenario where there was a band performing a festival and they literally delayed the show for twenty minutes because their backing tracks weren't working properly, and it's like, yeah, or Ronnie Radkey, who's always in the headlines, handled the headlining festival set because they had their laptops stolen, right, But of myself, I can't remember last time I used my laptop for live performance. But if they need five fucking laptops to be going at the same time, there's definitely a hell of a lot of stuff going on. But I mean his response to that was that they have all these synth parts and extra parts, and if they were to actually do it live on stage, sure they could, but it would be twenty five people on stage and that doesn't make a lot of sense.

03 I guess my unless you're slipnot yeah, if you're. If you're if your music is infused with that many crazy layers of digital stuff like sense and stuff like that, I don't know. It's maybe just not my taste, to my taste and my cup of tea. But hey, I'm I'm in the band of Limbo. I'm not in the band Falling in Reverse. And I'll tell you what, Ronny Radkey and Falling in Reverse are doing a damn site better on the monetary and the things than of Limbo is right now. So I shouldn't be throwing stones in his glass house, you know, well, you know, but I love what you say because you're altruistic to the music and you know, like I was saying before, So if you need that many components in the band, then you know you'd be a Slipknot. You have nine people in your band, you know. Yeah, I mean, I deeply love Slipknot. And they're not playing the backing tracks. They got that what's his name's star scream the DJ. Yeah, he's he's doing it all live. He's triggering, triggering samples, obviously, but that's what a DJ does in a band. He's doing all his scratching and all that cool shit. And the other great thing about them is that when shit five of the members aren't playing a part in a certain thing, they're doing all crazy shit like shirking off their noses and doing front flips into the crowd and whatever else. But yeah, I mean slip Not is one of the all time great live performance Zacson Metal totally so. And that goes along with what you're saying, because that person you were just talking about talked about, you know,

33 I'm performing a live show. Well, slip knots also performing a live show, you know. But yeah, well slip Knot isn't Corey Taylor. The way that falling in reverse is Ronnie Radkey. So that he had the twenty five people on the stage, I think he wouldn't like that very much because any extra people on the stage, the necessary is another person to look at other than him. And I think he's pretty into the eye all eyes on me kind of scenario. Well that's probably that's probably true of a lot of those hours out there too, right, And and you're so right, Corey Taylors. It's pretty humble actually, you know, which is why he does all. Yeah. I do I not to shit on Roddy rad Key at all, because I do love that the guy has opinions about things and he's not afraid to express them. But I mean, Corey Taylor is also one of those those guys too that will abundantly clearly state his opinion displikee who it might upset and yeah, yeah let him let him rip boys. That's my favorite, no doubt. So yeah, I was loving when I saw this song. I was just loving the whole concept of it because it just goes about everything I believe in and don't believe in all at once. Yeah.

48 I love that. It's very much a spectrum of different uh reactions from people. We sent it to our to our conspiracy theory uncle, and we thought he was gonna love it because he's like I thought he'd be like fall finally, finally, you guys are exposing the elite. But it was actually the opposite reaction problems. He goes, you guys are you guys are headed down a very dark path? And know that I love you. I love you both, but know this, I love Jesus Christ infinitely more. Come on, now, you come on right, That's that's not what it's about. It's about us, us telling a story involve blah. And he's like, okay, well, let me focus group into twelve of my friends. And my brother's like, oh wait, the twelve apostles. So that's the twelve of his buddies that are on the on the Christian pal Talk or whatever the hell it is, and uh, we get. He sends us back screenshots of their reactions and some of them were absolutely hilarious. It's like, oh wow, just another another shitty grunge band. I can't even understand the lyrics. And one of them was actually very positive. They were like they sort of got it. They're like, wow, finally someone's exposed. Someone in music is finally exposing the Hollywood pedophile, satanic luciferian elite or something like that. And then my uncle, of course, I lead them down the Is that really what you think? Or is it maybe that they are trying to fan the flames of it? And I'm like, well, god, whatever, you can't win them all. But hey, if if people are having a strong reaction to it one way or the other, then that's exactly what we want exactly. And you know what, when this song makes it big, your Uncle's gonna be even more convinced, yes, exactly that,

22 then I will. It'll be a self fulfilling prophecy we were we were gonna go go through with like a photoshoot of doing all the like Illuminati hand signs and six six over the eye and all that kind of stuff. I was gonna send them those, but we did end up having too much ship going on with this crewmador show we had and this big massive release party we did for the for this first screening of it, So that's that's a cool story itself. We have this bar next to our house, which is a bit of a blessing and a curse. But out front of the bar there's this gigantic billboard that's only about maybe ten feet off the ground. So on the premier Your Night, we climbed up that mofo down the back of it with a big old ladder and we hung a couple of huge white curtains down.

07 It's got ourselves an l chipa projector from Amazon for like one hundred and sixty bucks, brought out our PA system, and we had all a friends rock out as we pulled up the van illegally onto the turf in front of it. All our friends come out and we had a big old screening of it for the first time, blasting it on the illegally taken over billboard. It's pretty rad. That does sound cool. That guerrilla marketing. That is what the whole music scene is about, right there. That's what I loved about the LA scene, you know, beck, when before I didn't love it was that kind of stuff and you know, flyers on every telephone pole and just you know, fans just going out there and making a name for themselves.

56 Absolutely taking control of your own desk, and that's that the way to do. We certainly have gone that route for a while, but yeah, you know, things have shifted more and more into the social media game. Unfortunately, old Zuckerberg, Motherfuckerberg is taken more and more control of it all, and he's very aware that yeah, pain pain for eyes on your stuff is the name of the game now and that's how they make all their revenues. So we've had to play that game a little bit more recently as well to get to get eyes on stuff. But you know what, it's at least at least getting them the right way. It's an unfortunate reality that we have to give Zuckerberg anything more than a penny, but yeah, we have to run those ads through Facebook et cetera of what the music video looks like and d drawn new eyes into us otherwise just not happening in any other way these days. Well how about now that for both Facebook and Instagram you pay to be a celebrity. Oh yeah, I mean that's exactly the same thing to a much lesser extent. But I mean, if you look at the the machine Gun Kelly's of the world, and you look at any any big movie that's coming out, you don't necessarily these days see a trailer for the movie or a clip of the music video or something. It's just all of a sudden, one day you're just blasted with machine Gun Kelly, this machine Gun Kelly, that, oh him and whatever her name is, Megan Fox might be breaking up, oh him and Megan Fox like Kinky Sachs. Oh

30 what the world thinks of machine Gun Kelly, blah blah, And you know what that is, dude, it's not it's not because oh, all at once, there's all these really interesting stories about machine Gun Kelly that the algorithm thinks I'm interested in. No, it's a fucking pr company has been paid ass loads of money to do a huge media buy for machine Gun Kelly and just get his name out there so that people are thinking about that little dick head again, and then sure enough, two weeks later, Oh Machine Gun Kelly released as this new single, and the fucking public has been primed waiting for whatever is next from him to sell to us, no doubt, no doubt. Yeah, well, you know it's good that we still have ultruistic musicians like you that are making just badass music. How do people connect with you guys on socials that we're talking about that and anywhere else the web, buy your merch all that good stuff. So we're not one of these elitist bands or artists that don't respond to fans. We absolutely love interacting with people in the comments section, the dms, whatever. But our new greatest way, because of like I said, Mark motherfucker Berg screwing us on the algorithm, the newest best way is we've started a mailing list. We call it the of Limbo Party. So if you want to join the of Limbo Party kind of like a political party, slash one tandra of having a rock and

03 roll party with us. If you want to join that, just hit our website of limbo dot com and there should be a pop up to join the mailing list and you'll keep up to date with all of the new and wonderful things that we are gassing into this world. Nice, and you guys are so real that you literally did actually set Luke's guitar on fire while we played there. We actually literally did let his guitar on fire. Yeah, that was the only way to do it, dude. If you if you did some kind of special digital effects on that, it just sort of looked lame. So we Yeah, we bought a PLS guitar from Facebook marketplace for thirty bucks and we spray painted it black because it had all these lame kmart roses with barbed wire all over it and stuff. Spray painted it black, brought it out front of our house, he held it. We doubted it in some some lighter fluid, did a couple of test runs. We're like, Okay, this shit's gonna work. But the first place we shot the video, there are like absolutely no flames under any circumstances. So I had to dip into the old back pocket and find my buddy who I used to work with years ago as studio out in Santa Anna. He said he was going to be away that weekend. We had car Blanche to do whatever he wanted, so We went into the back of his studio and let shit on fire over and over again until we got enough takes of it. But the final take of it was like, Okay, we're not doing that again, because

33 every time I would I would do a take with him, he'd like he'd be like, Okay, that was good, but more ghastly in this time, more lighter fluid, more lighter fluid, and I was like, oh god, this is getting pretty sketchy now. And then the final take of it, he asked him to put so much of it on him that it started creeping up his suit jacket arm about to hit his hair. I had to run in with a wet blanket and cover him. We didn't do a full stop dropping roll situation, but it was pretty close. Wow, let's see that's metal. Yeah. I love it. I love it. I love the new song. Everybody's got to check it out. And thanks a lot for being on the Adventures of Pike Man. Hey, thanks for having me brother. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pike Man on W four CUI Radio.
