On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman is joined by Dan, Stephanie, and Chandler from the band NRCSSST. Pipeman is curious about the name of the band and wonders who came up with it. Dan explains that the name came from him, and it's quite unique as there are not many words you can take the vowels out of and still get a recognizable word. The band's name contains three S's, which is kind of a giveaway. Narcissist has never been a problem for people to figure out. Pipeman then asks Stephanie about her tattoos, and she tells him that they are just a lot of bullshit stories. She has had them for a long time and doesn't see the sun very often, which is why they still look good. She shares that she plans to get a free tattoo and haircut later that day. Pipeman asks the band to describe their music without using a genre. They decide to create their own genre and come up with Elder, Millennial, "Why Am I Still Here" Core, which also has a little bit of dancey fun times in it. Dan adds that it's got a beat, and Stephanie explains that there's a little bit of darkness but not too much. The conversation then turns to Pipeman's musical abilities. He shares that he has played the drums, guitar, and sang thrash metal, but he sucked at all of them. Dan jokes that Pipeman should join Narcissist, and Pipeman comes up with an idea to start wearing a mask and perform with the band so that people will wonder who he is, just like Slipknot. You can find NRCSSST’s merch over on Bandcamp by searching their name on the website, and if you want to check out their music you can find them on all the major streaming platforms. They’re also on Instagram under @nrcssstofficial so check them out there too!

00 Hey, you love them too, that's sure. I'm come from to see Why for Why Up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipeman on WI four so why dot Com. West Poon Beach is number one Internet radio station. From here's your host, the White Man. The two is the pipe Man here on the adventure Pike Man W FOURCY Radio. And I'm here with Narcissist van Narcissist. I wanted to hear you say it, Dan Dixon from Narcissist. There you go. Yeah as well. I'm Stephanie. I'm from Narcissist too. My name's Chandler. I'm a drummer. Nice. So I just gotta say, who was the brainchild that came up with the name me?
26 I love it? I love it. How many times have people like tried to figure out and not figure out what the band name is? Like they're like, what is that? Instead of just saying it and realizing what it was. It's never been a problem. I think it's not a not a lot of words. You could take the vowels out of and still get that with the three s's is kind of a giveaway. Yeah, no doubt, Yeah, no doubt. I do I do have another band called Please Please that has no vowels in it, and that one I've gotten pills Pills Please plus plus plus p that one. It's a little more tricky, but narcissist full proof. See, and I picked the proof. I pick it up right away because I'm a Jew and Hebrew has no vowels. Oh man, and look at those tats. Tell us about your tats, because there's a lot of stories on those arms. It's a lot of bullshit. Oh well, it's a lot of bullshit stories on here. This arm is just from you know, friends and family, and then this arm. I used to shop bitch at a tattoo shop a million years ago, and I just gave one of the guys at the tattoo shop like a couple hundred dollars on was like, just do whatever you want to do. And he was very nice because it turned out nice, badass, Thank you. I love it.
45 I've had them forever, though. I think today it's gonna be there. I'm gonna go get They have free tattoos, so I think I'm gonna go get my friend to get me tattooed. I think it's they do and haircuts, Yes, take advantage shit, I got a haircut before I came here. Oh man seem but yeah, so they're a million years old. So today will be the first time I've gone tattooed, probably like seven eight years. So that's a testament to whoever did that, because that it looks at good still because a lot of times the old school tattoos, yeah, they can bleed. I just I don't see the sun very often. That's the key key stay in bad when you're here doing a festival, I stay in the shade. Yeah. So let's describe without using a genre. Let's describe what you guys are all about to the listeners. Actually better yet, what I like to do, because there's too many freaking subgenres of micro johns nowadays. If you were to make up your own genre, just make up the weirdest freaking name of a genre, what it would be to describe you guys. I'm so not prepared for this question at all. This is that's good. I like that, Like everything hurts and I'm dying, but I'm still doing it. No old cord to it, cord to it. And then you have a sub older, millennial, millenial, elder millennial core.
04 How about elder millennial. I have no fucking clue what I'm doing Core? Yes, why am I still here? Core? How did I do it? How did I make it here? I like that, and then you can dance it if there's a little bit of dancy fun times in there too. It's not so dark. It's got a beat, says the drummer. He goes there, you go, poor guy. Yeah, so I played drums for nine years and sucked. Then I went to guitar suck there. Then I went to foot and sing and thrash metal suck there. So now I'm talking to you. So it sounds like you're ready to join narcissists. Yeah, I had this idea. Okay, I had this idea. I'm like thinking about it. I'm like, you know what, I think.
47 I'm gonna start to sing where I'll wear a mask so nobody'll see my age and I'll just get up on stage and I'll like just do a show with the and people have to wonder who I am, just like they did with Slipknots. Singers like the show or they yeah punk like those guys they did the masks. Yeah, yeah, you could do that, but if it sucks, it's I don't think they're gonna care. Well, you guy basically going to be good. Well, I'll have to. I think I'll have to be good at sucking. Y. That's that's a thing there you go, Because I mean, I think about some of my favorite band, old school bands, but I think about it, they kind of did suck, but I love them. Yeah, like the energy and how good musically were the germs you know, but they're them exactly. So that's my point.
46 Fake it till you make it, no doubt, no doubt. So what was that first moment in life where you, guys knew this is what you need to do with your life. What just being being in a band? You mean playing music? Being in music, zick. What was the first thing that happened to you that you're like, oh my god, this is me. Oh my god, I have no idea. I don't know when did I You tell? I got tired of seeing my friends play shitty music on stage, and I was like, I can do that. I can play shitty music on stage and have fun. Because I used to try to tour, manage and stuff, and I was like, fuck this, And there wasn't a lot of women doing it back then. This was like twenty years ago. Yeah, and so I was like, you know, I can do this, and that's and I had to. And then once I started, it's like, I mean, I still have a day job.
33 I I moonlight, you know, as a general manager of a pizza shop, Pizza jeans. Check it out. It better be good pizza because I'm originally from New York and music. Well, okay, so our owners from Queens. Okay, do you import the water though? No? I now real New York pizza I've heard we cannot Yeah, can get work. I think it has to be the Hudson River though, has to be the Hudson River water. Now, I know that's this. You're into bagels. I didn't realize that was it is. It's both. It's both. Yeah, so interesting right like it? And you know what's funny to me, Like I always get arguments with people from Chicago. They're like, Chicago It's best pizza. How many places do you go outside the US or even across the US where they say Chicago style pizza more than New York style pizza. Shut up? Chicago style pizza is It's a casse role. It's not a fucking pizza and let's just be done with talking about that, okay, because that's not pizza exactly, an abomination, just like okay, so now you made me have to ask you a question. Pineapple on pizza? No? Yeah, fuck no, no, like you should you should be dead if you put pineapple on pizza, or like four, if you're like four years old, you know what I mean? That's all right, but for an adult no, no, sir. So I have an idea for maybe why your next next gigs is like, just throw pineapple pizza at the crowd. I don't think so. No. Yeah, I like them. I'm glad they're there. Yeah, that's true that you don't want Yeah, you don't want
07 to piss them off. Maybe in high yi or something. So what's up and coming for you guys? After shaking these We have a show with the Earl in June with a band called Spotlights. It's pretty cool. Nice. We were working on a new record. We're about halfway there. Love it, um man, that's probably about it. Our keyboard player Andre tends to travel a lot doing his other gig that he does, so he's in and out of town a lot. So I think we're gonna probably. I don't know. I want to say we're gonna slow down for a minute while we finished up this record, But who knows. Things come along and we do them. Tell us about the new records. It's really good. I don't know. It's some like different songs from the first record. They're different ones, and they're really good songs. I don't know, Man, its fucking great. I don't know to tell you. I'm excited. It's got big beats. The drums sound huge. It's the drummer good on the new album.
56 He's are you? Are you any good on this thing? Well? Dan, make sure that I'll sound good. I do make sure he sounds good. Even if he's not good, he'll be good on the record. No, he's awesome. Yeah, here goes. I love it. And you have a cast on and you're still playing drums. You're a badass. Oh yeah, yeah, I love it in the cast and I'll just start hitting things. I could see that. I love it the beast. So what is if you were to take one story from this journey in music, good or bad, that when you're like eighty, you're gonna talk about what would it be? Yeah, Because everybody's got a different story. What would I tell myself? No, not, you tell yourself. What would I want to tell like grandkids or somebody. If if you're ever like really hammered at a bar and you see Billy Gibbons, don't just run over and hug him like an asshole, you know, give him, give him a little space and like, you know what I mean, and just let him, let him breathe a little bit, and and don't attack him, you know what I mean, because then later you'll be like, I can't believe I'm attack fucking Billy Gibbons. Yeah, I'm just saying. It's just a piece of advice for anyone today. Could could apply to anybody, really, could be anyone. I would say, you know, if you want to be in a band, just do it. Just be in a band. It
28 doesn't like you were saying earlier, it's like, it doesn't have to be perfect. That's I mean, who is No one is nowadays. Everything is tweaked anyway. So just yeah, it's like and the best part is just you know, the people you get to meet and the experiences you get to have, and those are usually once in a lifetime sometimes, no doubt. Yeah, And you know what I realize you guys, stick with what she said. Yeah, so many experiences travel the world. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And you know what made me realize what you were saying way back when I was at the US Festival in nineteen eighty three, and when Van Hill was on stage and they were playing Ain't Talk About Love, and Eddie looked over at Dave and he wasn't singing. And Dave looks out at the crowd of three hundred thousand people, he goes, I fucking forgot the words, and they all cheered like it was the best thing that ever happened.
18 I'm like, yeah, man, what a great job you could just fuck up and everybody cheers. I have two I have two rules for being on stage. Don't shoot your pants and and never you're the last interview and never apologize. Those are the two on stage. In life, apologize if you're an asshole, but on stage it doesn't matter. The first one, well, why do you think I wear black jeans? But those are my two rules. Those are my two rules. Those are the two big ones. It's after that it gets into things about and make sure your shirt has sleeves on it and things like that. But I can't control everyone, and we know who I'm talking about. And no, no shorts if you're upfront, if drummers, okay, yeah, good. It's so ironic that that you said that, because in the last interview I, when I asked a story, you know, for the story somebody said, well, not the last one one before They said about some woman at a festival was on top of an RV and just start shipping off the RV and people are looking up and shit was flying down. But here's the fun thing. When I asked that story question three times a ray, I've had artists tell me when they ship their pants on stage. Never never done it, never will. Yeah, so I don't. I don't eat for hours before I played it's on purpose.
37 That's pretty good advice. Yeah, I gotta say, because like that that would suck. I think that one applies to almost anything in life too. The second one, like I said, if you're a jerk, apologized. But the pants shitting, vomiting on stage is all right? No vomiting on stages. Yeah, yeah, that might even be like a good gimmick. Yeah, you know, plenty of times done it. It's great, it's great. Yeah, But shitting yourself fun stage. That just doesn't work. There's no looking cool after that. No, not at all. So how do people connect to you guys on socials on the web buy your merch because they can't listen to my show, and let's say buy merch. Okay, well, the merch is on band camp if you use that thing. We got shirts and recomfinal through band camp. We're on the Spotify if you like to stream things, and on the Apple Music thing and all the streaming things, and then Instagram. We're at Narcissist Official. But that's narcissist with no vowels. So no, I'm not going to spell it out, but if you can spell narcissis, take the vowels out and then write official after it, that's us. So there you go. Yeah, yeah, you did really good at that. Thanks, it's like you've done it before you not in a minute, actually, but I used to do it a lot.
43 I guess my final question would be how many times do you get idiots that say negative shit to you about your band name? Because we live in this society now, it's like everybody's in the narcissist. It's like, no matter what, you're arcissists. It's like the most overused word. Well, isn't that That's the irony of it exactly. I mean that's because his ex when we were first starting in his ex called him a narcissist. And then I had someone called I was a narcissist too, and I was like this is He was like this great idea. Yeah, yeah it is. Because we're all all bands are a little narcistic, right, we need the attention usually the people calling you a narcissist or a narcissist. Yeah, in my opinion, who's listening anymore to anybody? Right? Everyone can suck it if you don't like it, and suck it, you know, love it.
33 And on that note, on that note, if you don't like it, then suck it. And if you get what you get is and I'm good. On that note, I'm gonna say, by their march or suck it. Cheers, cheers to that, love it, Love you guys. Thanks for being here at Shaking Easy. Thanks for being on the Adventures of pie Man. Thanks for having it. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Plateman. N W four CUI Radio h
