04 Hey, you listen to such sure, I'm from see why you wake up America. It's time for the adventure. So pipe Man on W four cydi com West pom Beats is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. Don't think about me, She'll storry about you. You're always sticking your nose in what I'm trying to do. Stop telling me off, start turning me off. It is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Why Radio, and I'm here with Kenny Walkerson, mister saw bladehead from Nova Ruks. Yes, yes, we are rock at Rock Olahoma. Great gig right. I love this festival. Now have you how many years have you been here? In a row two? It's funny, I've been improved for like twelve years, but I always had another festival that was at the same time bigger than Rock Oklahoma. Yeah, well it was another DWP festival. And see now this is a DWP festival used to be so yeah, and that's why it took me so long to get back.
26 Right right now that I've been here, right, there ain't any other festival that conflicts that I'll take. I'm always to be here have you been to take Camp Crown. I'm not not personal. I mean I've drove by it, but I've never over there. All right, So, like they have a big bus out there where they built a deck on top of the bus, and it's like this whole big party and everybody goes up on the deck. So why are we Why are we here right now? Why are we not at the camp? They're probably sleeping. Why didn't you move all the media over there? I know, right that's where it should be, That's where the party. I will say that this is my first time here at Ockklahoma. I've been up on the rock Field many times, and I will say this as soon as I walked in and had this much more fun atmosphere than Rockville. I love rock fields, and you know I'm from Florida too, so I love Rockville. But I would even take this over Rockville, even though I only have to drive like three hours to get the Rockville.
20 Different energy, isn't it? Yeah? I live it down by whits Palm. Oh oh especially, yes, I knew that, see that he's smarter than me. Pipe Man's did and you know Rockville's now at the Daytona Speedway. I drove my jeep on the Daytona Speedway. Well that's not I had a delivered stuff for Ray from Corn and I got to go on. They're doing like twenty five miles an hour. Like, man, that's a pretty step little incline there. You don't see it on TV. It's like straight up and down. I was telling Christine up there last and the last one. I'm like, hey, I got my skateboard my jeep. You think I'll lose my credential if I go skateboard? You would. I've been there several times actually on the Daytona five hindred. I know a couple of drivers and stuff. So it's a good it's a good time. That's a rock and roll crowd. Man, Oh it's a great crowd. Now do you like it? Did you go up to Jacksonville when it was up there?
10 Now? Do you like? I've done Rockville for like ten or no, since like two thousand and ten. What which which location do you like better? Well? I live closer to Daytona, so say no more. You know, but Jacksonville was cool. But I don't know, it's just a different vibe. I don't know if it's one I liked better than the other. Just different. That's what I've heard. That's why I had to ask you. I do like it from a press point of view because I get the park, in the in the garage, you know, like this race card ding it. Yeah, Jacksonville seemed to be spread out a lot more than they totally, totally, so that's also great for press. I don't have to walk ten million miles, you know. Uh, but here, like this campground. I do all the festivals and us UKU Europe, the camping here bar none is the ship Yeah, this is the ship man.
09 They have a stripper. This is perfect for you guys. You should play there. They have a strip club camp site. Nice. I like that. Yeah. So now you're talking to boys that have been the Sturgeons a couple of times, so right, right exactly, that's you know, we got listen everywhere you go, it's same thing, you know, show your boobs to get beads, show your boobs to get a shot. I love it. They have bars, camp sites with bars. They don't charge, they just give it out. So you know, so we're definitely stopping there on the way out, I know, right, I am. You know, Oh, it's definitely a good time. Man. So what's been your favorite band so far at Oklahoma? So that's always a tough one, you know, because I just love all live music. But I would have to say, I mean, I wouldn't calling you. I was no, no, no, I would just have to say, I'm shocked to answer this way. Lim Biscuit, all right, And I'm not like a huge limb Biscuit dude. We had a good time, but I mean he did.
12 He went out in the crowd and like it was funny because all the g and guar is always a good show. Yeah, you know, but you know, side stage for a lot of the gigs and then up above for Bush. You know, like that same stage has the up above that was pretty cool, like looking down, okay, but for limb Biscuit, I just went up in that pit area right oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I just love how he was. He's so directed on us. He was fucking with the other bands's friends with like Sunny from Pod was on side. He yells out, all merch for Pod is free. Now yeah, that was always having a good time, right exactly. And then but then he walked out and went through the whole crowd and he was like, what is with this mini pitch shit? Like, does anybody here know to have a mosh pit? Right? That's cool? So I like to calling out shit that just off the coff Yeah, it was cool. How about who do you want to see? Honestly, honestly, Uh, probably Pantera?
14 Yeah, I saw them too, And let me tell you something. Before I saw them at one of the other festivals, I was like, I wasn't really on board with the idea, you know, like because it's two studs right right, right right, So like, okay, do a tribute by calling it Pantera. That was my thought process. But after seeing them, I'm like, you know, they did the boys righteous, you know, they made it like about them, not about you know, it was and they were spot on. And Zach Zach Wilde kills it obviously, you know, and Charlie's a great drummer too, and they were both like hand picked. Oh I'm sure of who Dime and Vinnie would actually want big No, Well, that's big freaking boost to field. That's like taking uh you know, Eddie and Alex Haylan. How are you gonna replace with those two guys? Exactly? I mean, seriously, I'll tell you. Who else was really good speaking of that last night was Steven Adler. Yeah, the dude that sang sorry Axel, but today he was better than you. I mean he was spawn on. So there you go. It's nice to have young guys come and sing for you. Yeah right, Matt, are you gonna go into the Pantera pit? Right? I'm ready for some Pantera.
28 Oh yeah, what's your favorite Pantera song? Well, I mean, obviously the one everybody knows walk. Yeah. Well, I was telling I was telling Sean a story about Pantera. Back in early nineties. I went into a bar in Indianapolis and it was a Wednesday night. It was five dollars covered. It was freaking Pantera. Wow. It was just out of the blue. I've seen him for the first time ever. Didn't even really know the band, believe it or not. Right, it's early nineties, and I just remember the singer coming out and doing that pose where he freezes right right. Yeah, man, Pantera makes you want to either a punch somebody or something, right right. I love it when it shows emotions. Here's a great one. And you're Florida boys. Okay, So do you know the club called or bar called Cheers in Fort Laurdale. Yeah, it's like this little place they do karaoke that's metal and punk called scary Oke and okay, okay. So I'm dating this girl was several years ago, and she's outside. She's like, man, I'm at cheers and they have this great Maiden cover band plan and then she walks inside and she calls me. She's like, it's them. Oh, they're there. Yeah, because Nico lives in Boca. He has a restaurant in Boca. So that was like the warm up show to go on tour. Well, listen, I've lived in Florida thirty years, and I lived in la for five right back in the eighties. I lived there in the eighties. I lived basically on I didn't live live. I lived on the Sunset Strip actually, like I didn't go home. I slip in my car for two months one time out there between
00 houses. But we were too the Bank of Hollywood, across from the Chinese Theater. Then I was one street over. That's where I lived nice and then I spent a cup But I spent five years between eighty seven and ninety two. See, I was there, re ready for this, Ye. My dad moved me to California, nineteen eighty perfect. I mean like you couldn't plan that more perfectly. You were there a perfect time. I saw a Crew before Dave and and an album when they were like horror punk, and I remember it was the first club gig I ever went to, and I was like, I'm never going to a real concert again. Yeah, and that started me going every Friday and Saturday night to Sunset Strip to some club. Well, you know, you know, you know what bands I missed was Razor X with Paul Gilbert were playing the Strip back down yea yea King's X. Yeah, because they were always playing right, weren't just got signed back then? Yeah, they were the brand new band. So and then all that Rat well yeah, Rat Poison great Way was one of the first gigs after Crew I went. It was Halloween, Wasp, Armored Saint and Headshaker and I just remember. Okay, So there was this record store in the valley called OZ Records, and we used to go in there and the record store clerkis always show us like the gigs that were going on the albums. It was Brian Slagel of the Metal Blade. That's when he started Metal Blade. You know how brilliant. He fucking was working at the local
30 record store where all us metal heads went. He's like, here, check out this go this gig. I'm Halloween. It's a great band, and I'm looking at it. I'm like, fuck, that looks cool. I'm going. You know, back then, how it was you didn't get the list of music first, You pick based on how they looked. Oh dude, you're talking to I'm still running game on that, right. So now, I mean, now I know the deal. I remember going out there and seeing Diamond Dave do uh Paradise was that the name of the album, Skyscraper Okay? And he the song Paradise right, and he did two blondes and him and they were in obviously bikinis, and they shut down Sunset Strip by Tower Records. I did a whole like a mountaintop on top of it, and he climbed off of it. You know, I mean this crazy shit used to do. Yeah. So I used to hang at the Troubadour a lot, and I used to hang there with like Nicki six and Eddie Van Halen and they would sit there against the wall and they'd just be every girl walked by, slut whore, yeah, Cohn, Yeah, bitch, and then one of them would go back with them and get fucking bent.
33 I know this came man, we did. I was more into the Rainbow, honestly, well for my post party and went, oh, so it's so funny you should say that, because I've been talking about that a lot this weekend. When I go to Rainbow now, I'm like, how the fuck did I get in there? I was like fifteen sixteens of old. Oh that's right. I was walking in with Lemmy or I was walking in with Montley Crewe, you know, and you like you saw the band that one of the other clubs, Ghazaris, the Whiskey, Roxy, whatever, and then you just left with the band and went over to the Rainbow. Yeah. Yeah, And it's like like you get that, get that cheapass piece of fifteen sixteen years old. I'm like, holy shit. When I when I moved out there, I was only nineteen, right, So it took me a couple of years before I could get into the bars. I had to sit outside the Rainbow had section. Yeah yeah, see that's why you had to hang out with the bands. Yeah, because he just walked in with well, I got him, trust me. You come out there fighting with Stephen piercing his girlfriend, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, trying to pick her up. I love that. I love that.
33 Good listen. I was, you know how the gatekeepers were so yes, I went to Metallica's first show ever, Slayer's first show ever. So after that I wasn't allowed to like any of the hair metal bars glam. My friends were like, uh, dude, you need to burn that Montley Cruise ship Man. And that was a great album though, I know, right, I mean that was pretty good. It was. It was it would be. They would be in the audience, turned around, middle finger up in the air without the Metallica you know, cut off Jeene Jean Jackins is somebody that I remember being those shows. Yeah, they were brutal. Yes you would. Uh if somebody had a Motley Cruie shirt on a Slayer gig, you would rip the shirt off of them, throw it up to Tom and he would burn it on stage. Them days are all kind of over.
18 It was a good time though, it was. It was. It was great time. I was there at that party when Vince left with Razzle to go on on far Right. Yeah, that was did you did you remember Motley cru when they used to load in their own gear and they would wear a surgical mask and surgical outfits and they would come in and set up their own gear and then they'd take it off and come back on stage. I know, yeah, right, they had some great ideas and the masters at promotion. There wasn't a telephone pole in la that. Jenny Lane was pretty good too, Yeah, he totally was. I mean he was still out there doing it when I was there. Yeah, they were all. That was a thing. I like that better man, It was so cool that it's different. I try to explain to my guys. I'm like, there's bands that you wonder how they got as big as they did, right, But what it is, it's hard to find four dudes that have the same mindset that want to hustle. Yeah, because if you have one guy, it's weak. It's gonna be a link in your chain, and it's too tough out there, just to you know what I mean totally. So, So what I'm saying is even though Jennie Lane was a hustler, because I seen him hustle, so where the other guys of the band? Right, you know what I mean? It's a certain level anyways, and you know how it is, it takes twenty years to become an overnight success.
24 Like you take a band like Metallica. They ate belowne these sandwiches with no Bread, shared a room with four other bands for like ten years. But people will just think of where they are now, ye know, doing shows with Carrie Underwood. Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean just you know what flips me out the most. We're going back is Iced Team. Oh yeah, yeah, so I remember cop Killer and all that I was in La right, so that whole cop Killer album, hardcore, thug, you know whatever. Right, and now he does yoga and sells cheerios. I know, right, But have you checked that body Count which was his band back then too, But it's a total like thrash metal band now, oh yeah, and they're badass, like they play. They play a cover of Slayer and they play a cover of Suicio. But they have their own stuff obviously.
11 And he's really like a metal head. You know who else I found out there's a metal head. He's my neighbor in Florida, Vanilla Ice. Oh yeah, well I've seen Vanilla. We play Leesburg every year, the Bike Fast one and We played one with Vanilla Vanilla Ice one time, and he's cool as shit. Like I didn't think so at first, you know, I thought of eighties Vanilla Ice. But when I when I met him, I was like, oh, okay, he's cool. You know he went through it right. Yeah. Oh, living in Florida is not too bad because you got Brian Johnson, Robin from Freaking Cheap Trick. Yeah, all them guys are. That's like's like the third place. If you're not in Nashville or La, you're in Florida. Yeah. The only problem with where I am posted where you are, right is nobody wants to come down there and play because it's too fucking far. Nope, it's hard to do.
56 We do. We have the same issue with Cocoa Beach being now he lives down in like Tampa Saint Pete Claarwater area. I love the Tampa venues. Man, My my venues near me, I hate them. Yeah, and I'm in Orlando area, right, but so I kind of do Daytona a lot. But then but like for me to go to Coco or even Lauderdale, the crowd that's over there stays there. They do people and Cocoa will not come to Daytona, so you're just stuck that way. Same with Lauderdale. But Lauderdale you just have a lot of good clubs. Though the problem with Lauderdale now is the people like that are the gatekeepers at the club for you know, your credentials and stuff. They act like they're godan It's like, dude, it's just a little club man. Well they don't know any better, right, right, You just you just go, oh, bless your heart, right exact. And see that's why I like the Tampa venues because they're not like that at all. They're totally chill and cool, and they really always kind of been like that though, right. I mean, I moved to Florida and eighty five with with no Brex and we were here. We were in Florida for about a year and a half and then I moved to la and did that run. But I was I getting Florida back then. I mean, I had all so many clubs. Well, he had the Button South, right, dude. You had the Pier in Daytona Beach, you had the Crown in Bringington, you had Club nineteen and clear Water, Saint Pete or whatever is that the Rocket Club, the Rocket Club, Nice Obs or ops or whatever the hell that was in Daytona.
18 And we had a lot of cool ones in South Florida. We had spring and break laid. That's why I came to Florida for spring break. Yeah, but no, it's Florida has always been a good to us, you know. I mean, i'm i'm I was born in Indiana. What speaking of that, just for fun, uh, September twentieth, I was up at Indiana about a month ago to visit my mom. And the Indiana State Museum has been there since eighteen ninety. Over three hundred thousand people go through their year and they're putting a whole display of nov X and myself wow in the museum on the twentieth of September with Mellencamp, Axel Rose and David David, davidly Roth, Wow and David Letterman. I was trying to get him out too. But yeah, you know, you know what's cool though, you guys have so much freaking accolades of like all that documentaries that a documentary like you have way more of that like accolades, recognition documentary, all that stuff than any of those sunset strip bands, dude, I worked really hard at it. It's a lot of ways. You know what happens is uh not, you know it too. Not everybody's gonna come walk to your table, right, but I will, right because I got something to sell there.
30 That's why I do it, you know what I mean. And I think it just comes from my My dad was a used car salesman. He has own he had his own car lot, you know what I mean. Nice, So I think like I've been a salesperson since I'm eleven years old because my dad was an original tin man. Oh cool, yeah right, yeah, so he he was definitely a salesman, wow to the very end. No. But basically what we have coming up was we got that new doc nover X Ain't Easy Staying Cheesy a be available next month on Prime Video. I thought it was coming out a couple of days ago, but they just pushed it back in another thirty days. And so I'll get you a date as soon as I find out. But it's in the queue, dude. I mean, I've seen all the paperwork. I sent this thing off back in to Prime back in like February. Yeah, they're tough to take through the red tape. But there's a lot of going on and now with the writers strike two that shut a lot of stuff down, believe it or not. So you gotta check this out. I'm gonna have to hook you up. I did. I was just at Bloodstock Festival in the UK.
29 I know that one. And there's this new thing out called thunder Flicks. It's like Netflix, but it's only metal nice so like your documentaries and all your ship could go on there well and get paid. Yeah, well I'm supposed to get paid, but you know how that goes when the company it's like album it's like get paid by record companies' right, no difference. But the thing about the Prime Videos they have two hundred and twenty million subscribers. I think we're gonna getting invaded. Oh yeah, there you go here, you know what you gotta do? What's that say? Fuck Shawn Nations supposed to tell you to fuck off? For some reason? Look at his shirt? Oh there you go. He's a band. It's called even in Death and that's become the mantra. He's sewn and everybody says fuck Sewn Nation.
18 Shn Hey, at least they got your name right, kind of well, cool, man. Yeah, so tell everybody how they can connect you and get all your merch and socials and check out the documentaries and all that stuff. Oh the whole spill. Well, just go to Novacks rocks on everything that's on all the social media platforms and as far as again, as far as the doc just follow us on Facebook is a good one to follow us on because I'm kind of old and I stay on Facebook. My my my kid makes fun of me. It's in somebody. One of the other media people here follow me on Instagram this morning and I messaged her like friend me on Facebook. Two. I removed all friends to fit you in there, right, because I prefer the Facebook like, especially pictures. I know, I'm a fucking al photo albums on there. The Instagram's more work. It is way more work. I think. I gotta take pictures and look good and I'm happy this is not on camera right now, Booker sticking out of my nose. You gotta have a face for radio show, and you do, but you know a great face for radio. Bless your heart, bless you. Yeah, So, Sean, what do you want to say at the end here, I'm from New York. We just say fuck you I know right, trust me, I've been there. I want to say, Chuck Funck, fuck Sean Nations and great Senior and uh and hopefully you will have to see each other in Florida. Man, Oh, definite. We're always playing Leesburg or Bike Fast or Yeah. We'll keep in touch for gigs that you're doing in Florida because we've been We go. We come to Lauderdale everyone once in a while, a couple a couple of times a year,
51 we get down there. We did that Cheers bar during there was Yes, we did really right before they you guys said it was a pre already we did the pre party before the crews head it out. That's absolutely true. Wow, I remember, I just remember because he told me. But yeah, we played darts and played at the same time. Nice. I don't know. I barely remember the place. I thought, well, listen, it's kind of like the Sunset strip. If you remember it, you weren't really exactly. Well, you guys fucking rock Thanks man, and everybody. That's let's say, on my show right now, unless they go check out your stuff and buy your merch, I can't listen anymore exactly, and check out our new video. Time is up for you just broke one hundred thousand, and it's a great song. I was just checking that out too, right, it is badass. Thank you. I'm always in awe of ours like you that I've been doing this forever and still can write great songs because I think, like, how do you not run out of well, you know, the hardest thing is to stay true to that whole scene. You know, somebody said, because in that video we set the car on fire and we got all this stuff right. And there's somebody called rope Or texted me and said, hey man, that looks like an eighties metal video, and I'm like, perfect, thank you, That's what I was working at.
56 What else you want? There's the compliment. I like sometimes all the cheesy shit too, Like even you take some of the sci fi stuff that they remake, I'm like, no, you just ruined it. It was a lot cooler what it was cheesy. It's like, you know, fire and rock videos is like bacon. You can just never have enough. So that's right, he's the pyro g I love it. I'm I'm a pyro and I love that tat too. That's badass. That's like I'm gonna even though that's not what it is. What I'm seeing is Megadeth meats Rock Oklahoma. You have been doing this for a while, right, It's been a pleasure. Appreciate you. Hey, it's Kenny Wokerson, mister sault Bladehead from Novah Rex and you're listening to pipe Man Radio on w fort. See why radio start turning me off? Thank you for listening to the Adventure of Pateman n W four CUI Radio M
