On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Ryan Waste from the band Municipal Waste at Download Festival. As one of the handpicked bands for the festival's 20th anniversary, Ryan expresses his honor and excitement to be a part of the event. Municipal Waste has always considered the UK their second home, where their fast-paced music is well-received. They even set a world record for crowd surfing during their performance, surpassing their previous achievement at Bloodstock festival.
Pipeman shares his experiences at Download Festival, comparing pits from different bands. He challenges Ryan to ensure Municipal Waste's pit surpasses all others. Ryan reveals that they have already played and had a huge pit, assuring Pipeman that they always get the crowd going right from the start. The band's high-energy performance is their signature style, setting them apart at festivals like Download.
Beyond Download Festival, Municipal Waste has been on tour all year. They toured the US with Carcass and Europe with Kreator, embracing their life on the road. Despite their bus breaking down on the way to the festival, they made it to the stage in a van and delivered an unforgettable performance. This lifestyle of rolling with the punches and being constantly on the go is what the band thrives on.
Ryan shares a memorable story from their early days of touring in Europe, involving a wild drinking contest in Manheim, Germany. He woke up in the pouring rain, half-naked, and had to track down his scattered belongings like a treasure hunt. It was a memorable experience from their first European tour.
To stay connected with Municipal Waste, fans can find them on social media and their website, and be sure to check out their music on all major streaming platforms

0:00 Hey, you love them too, that's sure. I'm come from four s why for you Wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four C why dot com West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures AMN W four c Y Radio at Download Festival, and I'm here with Ryan Waste Municipal Ways. Man, it's nice. It's one of my most exciting air views of the day because I love you fucking guys.
1:11 I appreciate that. Man. So how does it feel to be at Download Festival twentieth anniversary? Like the way I look at is every band playing here was hand picked, you know, because the twentieth anniversary you can't just put anybody on the bill. Well, it's an honor, you know. This is I can't remember it's the third or fourth time we've done this, but you know, UK has always been a second home. You know, they get our jokes over here. So we get a move and we set the world record and beat it tonight for a crowdsurfing again during Wave of Death, so they beat out Bloodstock. So we did that for Download specifically, tonight. I love it. Yeah, I do Bloodstock too, and I oh, I love doing THEEDS festivals like I go and I do all the festivals in the States, but it's like a whole other world over here.
1:53 Yeah, I mean it's like we're we're kind of odd man out playing fast at a festival like this, and I like that, you know, So I have a challenge for you. Then, Yeah, So first night was Metallica. I was in their pit. I've been. I was at the Snakes in there. It was it wasn't that great? Not to me Snakes the first night? No, and I would you know what? I was at Metallica's first show ever and the pit was better than wow with Raven was Raven on the no you saw him Waven before that? Oh yeah, okay, and out first I don't even remember who they played with, but it was in La nineteen eighty one, and you know, Mustain was in the band. Ron McGovney was the basis, you know, um, and there was like twenty five of us. Those are the ones you remember, though, I know, right, because you can pick everyone out of the once it's all your buds absolutely. So then last night was bringing me to Horizon and that pit was ten times what Metallica was. So here's my challenge.
2:57 You gotta make sure your pit here it blows all of them away. Well, I got a little secret for you. We already played and we had a huge pit see that. And I've been back here like back to the future because in the past, which was like about an hour ago. Yeah, you were stuck in some dressing room, I'm fucking pissed. Well, I can guarantee you can watch the footage the playback. It was sick man. So I mean, we know something's wrong if there's not a pit right when we start. So we had them going right out of the gate and that's usually just business as usual for us. There you go. So what else is new besides download festival? What's going on after day? But on tour all year, you know, we were out in the US and then you know, we came over to Europe with Creator and we're out with carcass in the US. We've just been non stop all year, you know, ever since everything opened back up. We just hit the ground running, which is what we were always were, like we're always a band on the road.
3:49 Yeah, since the out the gate, you know, been doing it for twenty three years straight, and that's what we know. You know, we get't hit the road, you know. So I mean this is where we feel at ease at home. And our bus broke down on the way here, two plat tires. We haven't even seen a buss yet. So we jumped in the van and came to this big as vest and got on stage that just plugged in and played. This is how we roll. That is the lifestyle right there. Like, I'm not even surprised that that happened. Yeah, so we looked dirty because we literally just rolled out of bed and got up here. I love it. So twenty three years one story, good or bad. When you're like eighty, you're going to talk about, is there one that sticks in your mind that you remember. Yeah, I mean a lot of the stories that were wild happened over here in Europe, you know, because we got over here and we basically did a few di iy tours and we're just happy to play for beer and that was exciting for us. And now there's endless beer. I'm a cider guy myself, so in the UK, I'm happy with that. I remember we did like in Mannheim, Germany, we had like a drinking contest, and it was at a squat and I remember this is back. We were doing beer bongs and stuff, and some of us were doing food beer bongs and basically just trying to outdo the Germans and outdo our other friends from California. This man annihilation time old buddies of ours. So we had a drinking contest. Next thing, you know, I don't know if I won, but I woke up out in the rain, half naked, just like pouring rain, and I had to track down all my possessions like it was like a treasure hunt, Like wallet was across the street and keys, and then it was like a trail back to the squat, and I somehow gathered all my possessions and
5:20 made it back inside. Just woke up soaking wet in the rain. So that was our first European tour. If it gives you an idea, well, that's definitely memorable, yea. So tell everybody how they can reach out to you guys on socials, on the web, and most importantly buy your merch because that's how you survive. One accomplishment I will say is our name Municipal waste comes up before the trash company. Now, I love when you search us. So it's like, if you're looking for, you know, ways to clean up your city, you're gonna run into our band first. So that's one thing that you know, I can say as an accomplishment, But will you go in there and clean up their city? I won't do that. We'll come and make it worse. No, you know, it's all you know, findable Instagram, Municipal Waste. Who you know, everyone's more savvy on the internet than we are these days. We came up having to put in work before that was the way that everyone does things. So we just stick to the old school ways and you know, we're on there where you can find us. Man, look at that a delivery. We got delivery. I love it. We love our label because they understand our needs. There you go. So thanks a lot for being here at down Low talking with you. Man, Hey, thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. This is Ryan Waste from Municipal Waste and you're listening to the pipe Man on W four c Y. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man on W four CUI Radio.
