04 Hey, you love them too. Sure, I'm why you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W fourcy dot com West pom Beaches number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. You're myself from everything my man said, so much better than I'm swarving in to on command traffic to you grab the wheel, I'm turning in.
55 This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man w FORCY Radio and I'm here with zun and we are on the Adventures of Pipe Man. Baby. I made it. You made it. I can't believe you made it in this heat. I mean, you know what this is. It's summertime and all right. I live in Florida, so this is everyday life for me. Yeah, I live in Los Angeles and it's actually been like raining and snowing Los Angeles for the last couple of months. I'm with it, man. I grew up at Gora. Oh yeah, yeah, you know where that is, right. Oh, it's near Calabasas Valley. I grew up in Minnesota. I'm not from la Oh. Okay, there you go. I grew up on the Sunset Strip in the in the real time of the Sunset's why I like Mattallica played Last Silence at their first show ever where I don't even remember something like that. I can't even remember. If you can remember the sunset strip in the eighties, you weren't there. I don't remember it in twenty fifteen. So right, so I do have to laugh about something. We'll go off of music for a second because Okay, so I we're here in England and I had met this British girl and got married and got divorced in literally fifteen months, and then I read something we don't have to mention any names. So I'm like, you're like my kindred spirit.
25 Righty follows me? Man married, divorce, put rings on it, remove the rings, all that removed, tattoos, all that, man Ei though, Right, so I've been there, done that. We're part of the club, right, there is an elite club. Oh but I also love how you name your albums recently, like it's so cool. Oh man, good, so you get the flip on it? Yea? Not everyone does you know? Really? How did they? Not? Okay? So like Internet killed the rock Star that's based off of obviously video killed the Radio. Yeah, I was there when that Team out. You know that a lot of people, you know, yeah, I mean younger kids. I do my best to try to be like study everything that came before you, you know. Yeah. And then the recent album God Save the Team flip on God Save the Queen obviously, and that's perfect here in England, I know, right, I've been waiting, waiting to bring it out here.
16 Yeah. Man, so I felt like I was making like a movie in a sequel. You know, I love it. I love it. So how does it feel twenty if the anniversary and Download Festival and you were hand picked to be here twentieth anniversary? I had no idea even but I've seen the name Download Fest for what would seem like twenty years. Yeah, so what what year would it have been that it started in? Well two two twenty three, So two thousand and three and check this out. Mittauka last night said, okay, so this used to be called Monsters of Roun before it was download forty three years in this venue, this festival, it's been going on. Oh cool man? Is that fucking insane? It is amazing and it sounds like this is one of the best ones yet. Oh that's what people have been saying it is Listen, I go and torn and do all the festivals. Obviously, like you, I'm from the States. This blows away to festivals in the States. Oh all this Europe, dude, I've been. I've been doing the europe festival circuit for like the last two weeks now. Yeah, I don't know if I'm going home. I know, right, That's how I feel. I don't know if I'm going home.
15 Bro. I'm telling you, what other festivals are you doing? We did Rock and Ring, Rock and Park, which was amazing. Christ what was the last one? Where did I just come from? Okay, I can't remember. We're about to do hell Fest. I do that one too, Yeah, we're about to do hell Fest. Have you ever been to health Fest? No? Oh my god, I've never played a show in France yet. You're you're gonna die? Okay this place? Okay, so they own the layer. Oh we just did rock for people in Czech Republic. Oh nice? And it was mad bro nice. It was mad bro. Oh man. It's just like a whole different universe doing the festival over here, isn't it. And the fans like, I mean, this is what I I feel like. Is you can build something here that you can do long after things slow down in America. Yeah, you know what I'm saying. Oh yeah, which is you know what's funny. I've always I've always, I've always kind of been hit to that because I've seen it with bands that kind of slow down in America. It come out here. They're doing arenas still, you know. I think that's so cool. There's something different about here and here. I saw that firsthand. And there were bands that I loved in the eighties and I thought were gone, and then I started doing festivals here and it's like, oh no, they've just been here all this time, I know. So I really like at the start of like putting out my building box over here to do that, you know.
39 Yeah, and you're you're hitting all the right places. Way you go to hell Fest, it's like you are in Hell. Yeah. At night they have like fire going up and in the place is huge, and it's cool because they have like twelve different stages. There's like secret stages. Oh really yeah, Like yeah, I'm gonna go explore around that one. There's a stage that plays on top of a roof of one of food things, you know, and there's there's a big Lemmy statue Rainbow. Wait wait, I go to Rainbow Now, I'm like I was fifteen. I'm like, how the fuck did I get in there at fifteen? And I'm like, oh, I get it. I was walking in with Motley Crue. I was walking in with Metallica like they didn't question and then Lemmy was always there.
29 You know who else was always there? Ron Jeremy you know you know, Yeah, I watched him get arrested out of there. Bro. Oh dude, I used to like be just go there to take his his overdraft, you know, because he had all these hot women around them. He couldn't handle all of them. So you got same with that guy. He's in jail now, I know, right, yeah, that guy you know, Motley Crue. It was fucking insane. It was insane, the shit that used to go on. Yeah, I was at that party when he left with Razzle on the beer run. Left with Razzle on the beer run. Do you know about that when he got the dy because he killed Razzle from Hannoi Rocks like they left on the beer run lash bitch for a Yeah.
15 Stories definite Rainbow stories for sure. Rainbow and the Roxy bro still rocking, Man, oh man. The Roxy is the first club show I ever went to in my life Motley Crue before they had an album. They weren't glam yet, they were horror punk and they tried to light the Roxy on fired to bring Satan in. I was like, I'm never going to a real concert ever again. Yeah, you know, I mean it was badass. Yeah, the Sunset stories we could go on. I'm telling you, like I said, if you remember him, you weren't there. So tell our listeners who have never experienced you what you're all about. My name modsun Stands were moving on Dreamstand none and one. I encourage people to believe in themselves.
01 I was told no over and over my entire life from a small city of Minnesota, and dude, I never quit and I just kept going. Now and I've had essentially like a twenty year career at this point, and here you're right download I mean, and you're going to health Yeah. Yeah. So I grew up playing in bands. I'm a drummer at heart. That's where I got started, playing in a band called four that Alive, played in a legendary post hardcore band called Scary Kids, Caring Kids that led me to doing a solo career. Spent about ten years making what I called a hippie hop, which is like a real positive version of rap music. But I subscribe to the idea of artists which comes from like the mentality of painters back in the day, which was every ten years you reinvent yourself. So I've reinvented myself every ten years from a drummer rapper, now I'm singing and kind of bringing everything together that I did. Yeah, man, loving life, and you know what, it's so cool that we're finally blending John Rose. Yeah, because I came from the time, as you know, the gate keeping bullshit. I couldn't show up the punk shows or I get my ass kicked long hair, And it's so cool to combine all the genres and you're like one of the innovative ones in my opinion, doing that.
09 Plus I love your lionus tattoo with mohawk. Yeah right, Oh my god, I just noticed that, Like, oh my fucking god, you know, but yeah, I mean it just why don't we include everybody? Yeah, well, I think it's coming to a point where it's just like inevitable that genres are I mean when's the last time that you identified when someone said what's your favorite band or what's your favorite music? When's the last time you identified it with a genre? It doesn't happen, are right. It's kind of a dying thing. So I think music has always been waiting for that. I mean, Bob Dylan's my favorite artist in the world. Again, someone who started with a guitar folk voice of a generation. As soon as the audience just accepted him as that, he put down that picked up electric guitar, got booed off stage for years. As soon as they loved him for that, he went on to make gospel music. As soon as they hated him and started loving him for that, he went on to make jazz standards and just you know, like like trying to do the same thing over and over. I can't imagine that would be fun to try to do that for your entire life. You know. I love that you bring that up because I think about that old time, Like, if if I were an artist, why do I want to make the same album every fucking time?
18 No, man, I mean, if you can't approach it, if you can't start to approach it in a new way, you're gonna end up losing all the passion for it. Man, you're just going to it and you're gonna be doing it for the audience, which is no art is good when you're doing it to appease what you think people are gonna like, that's never that's never going to do it for you could work, but you're gonna lose the passion for it. You're gonna end up quitting. And like, my whole goal of why I do this is to be like, I'm gonna do this till the day I die, whether there's one person left in the crowd or not. I love I'm going artists. Yeah yeah, And you know Ali and they played here and they're not badass. Probably Ali said it best when they were giving them all kinds of shit for you know, recent music, and he's like, he said exactly that why I want to write the same song over and over again? Yeah, you know, and I see that, like fuck, I'd be bored as fuck. Yeah you know you got and that's an artist and then you destroy it man, Yeah, that's how you retinue being an art and rebuild it again and do it a different way. I think that's the one positive about that COVID lockdown, and it's a lot of artists where on a hamster wheel for so long. Finally could sit back and go, wait, is this really how I want to through my music and evaluate a different direction? I mean there's always going to be a level of artists. Sometimes the artists that are at the top that continue doing it for the arm reasons because I can tell. But there's no risk
48 in that. No, and you can tell an audience can tell absolutely. You know, either you're up there because of the love of it. There's not some risk involved. Man, I don't want to be a part of it. No about you know, wrong business any way, if you're just doing it for the safe route and to make money, they sing the biz well, So how do people connect you on socials on the web, by your merch because that's super important. Yeah, just MD Sun on everything mot Son, MD Sun, look it up across the board, hit me up, go listen to me on Spotify, all the places that you listen to music. I have a lot. I've probably released around a thousand songs to my discography, so it's all out there, nice shapes, free stuff, all that. Man. I'll check it out. I love it and what I really love is I'm also a motivational speaker who had a fucked life.
43 I won't even say childhood, but I have the right attitude. And that's why I think about what you're doing is you're helping people. This music's the best therapy for you, the artists, and for me the listeners. You're not just making music, you're changing people's lives. I mean, you know, what if if you can affect one person out here, period, one person, You've lived a good life and you have and you have, and I'm so happy you're here at download and man, thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Man. Absolutely man, it's a great chat with your brother. Absolutely yeah. Come check it out, check come check out the side today. Man, So everybody out there, this is your new best friend, my son.
