04 Hy you have done to censure? Wow, pray you why become of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four c Y dot com. Wis pomp beats his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, The White Man listens the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with nice here at aftershock. Do you still look so good? Because it's so freaking hot right now? I don't know. I have no idea how Like everybody else here looks like they just like went on a fifty mile hike, and I feel like a puddle.

08 So I'm not really sure. Yeah, people tell me that. I'm like, I don't believe you. Also, there's a lot going on under these bangs here that you're not seeing. Well. Yeah, and you got the black and the long sleem fire right now. I always wonder her with artists, especially like as an example, Taylor Mumpson. I'm friends with her, and I'll say to her like, how do you get up on stage and this heat with that long leather coat? Like I would be just I wouldn't care how I love just taking that shit out. Oh yeah, beauty is pain. We we do it. We do it for the fashion. I know, right, yes, So how does it feel to be here aftershock? Anyway? Even though it's hot, it's really hot. Well, I'm from Arizona, so you used this is okay? Yeah, I'm used to like one in the summers, right, So there you go. Do you have to perform in that one hundred and twenty? They have some festivals out there that are during the summer, and I feel like it should be illegal, but like what they think, just like with Warped Tour, I'm in West Bomb Beach. Yeah, the West Bomb Beach show of Warped Tour was always like the last show in August. You don't have a show in August in West Bomb Beach. That's like the worst time. It was always on like asphalt too, it's so hot. Yeah, no doubt exactly.

20 It was like brutal, brutal, like put it in the beginning during the winter. I don't know, they hate people, I guess I'm telling you. So, as an artist, how would you describe your music? Forget what all these people want to box you in a genre? How do you describe yourself as an artist? I do think that I'm I am genreists. I mean a lot of people that have written or done reviews have always said that I like to bend genres, which is the truth. I mean, I have a nineties baby, I love alternative nineties rock music. I love nine inch Nails, going, Stefani Atlantis, Morisset, I'm all over the board. So I would say that my music is a culmination of all of my favorite stuff growing up. So I love hearing that because and I've said this a lot lately, because it's true. In twenty twenty three, the only way you're going to be unique is by bending genres. Because what I've seen is like when you have somebody like in one specific genre, it's like everybody follows the same formula. They all sound the same, and how do you stand out? And it's easier than ever to become an artist now, so now you have even more competition, or's somebody like you, there's nobody to compare it to. Oh well, thank you. I appreciate that.

37 Yeah, And it makes it funny, you know. I get to change and evolve and do whatever I want because I'm not putting myself in a box. And isn't that what it should be? I mean, you're an artist. I get the whole idea of boxing an artist in an artist is expression absolutely. You know, well, it's been crushed by the industry obviously. You know, you have to sell tickets, you have to be your images in in everything that you do, that you wear, that you say, it's all a part of it, right, and instead of doing what it is that you should be doing, which is expressing yourself. But here's what I've seen thirty years is those record labels and stuff that do that ruin not only the band, but the genre. And the long lasting artists are the ones that are like, I'm going to do whatever I want exactly, and they always make it through. You know, you have these like very flash in the pan moments, these things that labels like to focus on. But for the most part, I think that, yeah, artists that last forever, they make it through somehow, you know, because they're unapologetically them.

40 Yes, when I'm on stage and I'm wild and I'm making faces and I'm laughing and I'm having a blast, it's because i want to inspire people that watch me to do that more in their own lives. And I think as an artist it's so important to share that with people, no doubt. Even like Okay, as an example, as a radio person, I'm also a speaker. Who I am on stage or on the mic is not necessarily who I am in real life. Yes, because this is where I'm expressing certain things where I'm not gonna be you know what other people want me to be. But in certain parts of life, I may be. You know where you are everyone where you have to be, But I'm not going to sell that shit out for my passion and my heart. No, that's the difference.

27 Yes, I can be very scary on stage and then when people meet me, they're like, you're so different. Do you think I was gonna punch you in the face. Well, I tell you a funny story. I of like all these people, especially women I've known like for many years, they listen to my radio show and they're like, what happened to you? You used to be like this really nice guy and blah blah blah. Like it's a role, man, I'm playing a role on the radio. Okay, character show, no doubt, because and you have to be a chameleon. Like when I'm an interviewing artists, I'm at me on the radio when I'm just doing my live show and I'll have a guest, and that dude inside my head that nobody ever hears in the outside world comes out of the mic because it's almost like and you may feel this on stage too, because I feel it even when I'm doing speaking gigs, when the MIC's on, nobody's out there. It's like I feel that I'm just speaking to the mic, and then I'm filterless because I'm not worried about what anybody thinks.

30 I'm not worried about their eye movements, I'm not worried about what they care. I'm just saying what I want to say. Yeah, and I don't care. I absolutely feel that, Yeah, there's a lot of freedom in that, you know, being able to get yeah, I get up in front of people. I think most people would be petrified, it would be the complete opposite. But I think, yeah, if you're an artist or a creator or someone like you, it's it's just natural. It's a part of who you are. And also, this persona that we put on is very much us. It's still us, part of us or a piece we don't show people. Yes, it's kind of like even in relationships. I've talked about the person I want to be a relationship with is the person that I could be the person I am inside my head because nobody knows that person, and we're all like that totally there. We show people in our life the parts we want them to see or that are apropos to them. But how many times do we show all of us to somebody? Very rarely?

27 Exactly? Yeah, very really? Now, I mean I show everyone everything all the time. I got a big mouth, they say, way too fucking much. I love that. Yeah, you know, I get myself in trouble sometimes, but you know I have a lot time. I grew up like being Yeah, I grew up Mormon, I grew up conservatives. I grew up you know, being put in a box immediately, and my purpose was this and this is all I could be. So breaking away from that, it's like I'm the slingshot, the slingshot child. I'm the one that's like, fuck everyone, I'm doing whatever the hell I want. Yeah, it's so funny that you say that, because it is so true with any extreme religion. Yep, that's what happens. Just like I remember when I was in high school, there was a joke if you wanted to get laid go to the Catholic all girls Catholic school because they're fucking wild as out.

11 You know, It's so true, right, It doesn't work to try to constrain people. It never works. No. Like perfect example, me and my best bro since thirteen. His parents were ultra strict conservative parents and he was this serious wild child. They couldn't control him at all. My dad was this wild party animal, womanizer, blah blah blah, cool as hell. Yeah, but I felt like I had to be his parents, so I ended up being the one that was exactly right. Now here we are here, we are telling everybody fuck off exactly exactly. I'm doing whatever the hell I want to do exactly. See. Now, that is what makes you a great artist, because you can't be a great artist unless you're all you, period. Absolutely. That's why those other bands fail because there being somebody there. They're not because somebody told them to be and it's apparent you see it. Oh yeah, like I can tell on stage Love, I'm like, yeah, they're just going through the motions there. Well, a lot of you know people, they want it right, they want to make it whatever it is, and they don't even know what that is to themselves, and they don't like it. Yeah, they get it because they don't know what it is. You have to make a decision and a choice within yourself to say this is where I'm willing to stop. This is what I want out of this, and that's what you should gun for. But

43 people gun for this like big idea of it making it success, fame, money, all of that, without really knowing what any of that means or what it entails, and so they get desperate and they start doing shit that's not them, it is they. It is funny too, because most artists are in real life introvert, absolutely, and I always find funny that they want to be famous because that just doesn't go together, and somebody didn't tell them that. Yeah, no, yeah I don't. Here's the thing. I don't want to be famous. My team is always like, I mean, good luck with that, But I really those are usual people that get famous or the people that don't want to. I don't desire it by any means, but I just I want my art to be well known. That's all I care about. You want to change lives, that's about me.

30 You want to change lives with your art. Yeah, I mean, and who cares like what I like to eat for fucking lunch or you know, who cares about any of that stuff. It's about the art that I create. That's what I want to focus to you. Yeah, I know you love when the other press people ask you those stupid questions like that, what do you eat for lunch before you got on stage? Oh? Yeah, I've had some very thoughtless interviews in the past. Listen, I've said a few times today. Sometimes I listen to other people around me in these environments. I'm like, if I was the artist, I'd just slipped my throat man or I would pull a like walk away. I would love to do that if I was an artist and the interviewer like, especially if they don't know their shit. Yeah, Like, I don't think it's as important about knowing the artists. I think it's important about knowing the music. Yeah, and knowing how to ask a question to find out about the artists, you know, exactly, perfect example Lacy Sterm. I interviewed her once and tour managers like, you have a hard ten minutes. Okay, I'm cool, I'm good at that. I started talking about being suicide as a teenager and this thing she does with Sonny from Pod and other people, and they go out on tour and they help these suicide teams. Tour manager comes over and starts doing the tapping on the watch. She shoes them away, and like she starts talking for the next half hour. Yeah, And afterwards she gives

03 me a big hug and she's like, thanks. Nobody ever asked me about that, and it's so important to me, Like, how do you not ask that? Shit? No, you're gonna ask how did you get your band name? Well? I was born with it. I hate that question. Where did you get your name from? Who fucking cares? That's where I got my name from, right, nobody cares. It's probably already been an answer. Sound a good one day, Right, Okay, that'll work. That's usually how it happens. Like I had a band when I was a teenager called Broken Glass. I've thought of now, like restarting a band and resurrecting that name just because it's a cool name. That actually be really cool, no reason for the name. Yeah, I just was a teenager stoned. I'm like, wow, that sounds cool. That is I might steal that from you. You're so mad at me. I know, but now I have it recorded. Oh damn it. See that got myself.

54 I have a copywritten now because we recorded it. Oh man, But I don't even know why you won. No, Like I don't give am. And sometimes it's common sense. Like there was this band from Holland called the Charm and the Fury, and I got friendly with them, and it was led by a woman who was so badass, but she was hot, so she was a charm and the rest were the Fury. Common sense. I didn't ask them. I thought of it on my own and I said to him, I'm like, we're talking about that, hope. They I'm like, uh duh, it's obvious and they're like yeah, like because people don't have common sense nowadays. And no, god, no, I mean, but here's a great one. I've told this before. You'll love this.

41 Send if you hate that question. I was interviewing August Burns read one time Love August Burns read I love them too, and I love them even more after this interview, and you'll hear why. So I started beforehand, like I was talking to you, I said to him, And I don't ask stupid questions like how do you get your band name. Yeah, they're like, well, you're lucky because we fuck with every person that asks us that. Basically, they said, see that girl over there, we do it with straight face. We basically said, she asked us, and we said, well, my sister she got this dog when we were a teenager. She named it August, and we were all hanging out outside in the in the driveway partying, and we decided to be funny to light the dog on fire and watch it run down the street. Ergo, August burns red And they're like, we said with a total straight face, and you had to see the look of horror on my face. And I'm like, deserve it, you know, if you're gonna ask that stupid question, that's what you deserve. I also get a lot of times, but it turns out funny and interviews how'd you get the name? Pipe Man? And everybody as their philosophies. That's the best part letting people's minds run wild, because they just go like, I don't even know where they go. They're unlike a hallucina and genics. Sometimes when they try to think of what your band name means, you know, oh my god, yeah, and it is rather funny.

09 But they always think us to do with laying pipe or smoking a pipe. My last name's Piper, and somebody said it to me once years ago, and it's stuck. That's it. That's all. That's all it is. That's all it is. You don't smoke weed. I do smoke weed, but nobody knows. Okay, so it's so it's got double meaning. But I didn't use it for that, but you may be right, yeah, yeah, there you go that, but nobody knows. I've never I don't tell people. You don't tell people at all. Ever, No, I don't tell people. You should just tell people. We are live on the air right now, well not live yet. I was gonna say we're live. No, we're good, we're recorded, but it will be live and I won't edit that out. Nice, please don't. I don't. You know, you gotta have moments like that. But you know, it's funny because if I admitted to that, then everybody would absolutely yeah that he's full of shit. It's not because of his name, it's because he smokes pot. He's smoking Shut the fuck up. Who doesn't smoke pot? Let's be honest. I know right, I'm high, right, now love it.

12 I'll come here and share with me. I don't get it. Some of you want let's do it. Everything you need to got mushrooms? I got I got it. You're prepared. Yeah, oh yeah, I'm at a festival. I was walking down the street after the festival last night in downtown Sacramento and literally a cars drive it by being this person are smoking on the opposite end of the street, stops in the middle of road and says something like, I smell it. Let me inhale it. What that could mean anything? I know, right, but but they knew we were smoking pot. He could smell the post smell it where That's like me every time I saw him, like, oh it smells good, right exactly. In California's fun to do festivals. You know how many times I've been doing interviews and they're passing me a vape in the interview, you know, Oh yeah, I mean I walked into my green room and there was just like rolling papers right from from weeds Map, right, yes, exactly. I was like, this is I love California. I went over to weeds Map because I needed some papers, and they had free papers and free lighter, and they're like you need to download the app, and I'm like, there it is, I already got it. Yeah, way ahead of you. Right, that's amazing. How else you find the weed? That's so awesome.

29 I love that. So any final words for our listeners? Any final words is what you're yeah from me? M listening to your music? Yeah exactly. Yeah, they stne and listen to my music. Yeah. No. I just released an EP called Fiction Nice. Yeah, it's I'm super proud of it. It's my best work and I really hope that that people check it out and dig it. I love that. And how do people connect you on socials the web and every day? Buy your march? Yes, I have it a Luna ormerch dot com merch and then I'm really active on Instagram, so I answer all messages. I say hi, anyone who wants to do That's a lot of work, I know. I do it all. Baby. I love it here for the long haul. I love it.

11 You are killer. Everybody needs to listen to your music and buy your merch. They can't listen, yes, or you're dead to us. Yes, I will shut the whole radio station down. Thank you so much. Thank you for being on the Adventures of pipe Man, Yeah, I appreciate it. Thank you for listening to the adventures of pipe Man on w for CUI Radio.
