04 Hey, you have done to censure? Wow crazy young whycoume of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four c Y dot com. Wis pomp Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with James Cross and you're from I like when the bands do it because they do a cool than I do.

07 And then and then I don't butcher her name. I mean i'd be after be an idiot to butcher your band name. But you know, uh, but you were here in Vegas at pent Rock Bowling, not LA So you took over downtown Las Vegas. Yeah we did and killed it here. Hell yeah we did. I want to know how you're not dead after this heat too? Oh we are. I think I got heat stroke. I don't doubt it. I always wonder. I'm like, man, how do bands perform in this heat? Like I'm just out there and dying. You're up there right around, putting full energy out. You know, it's not like you're playing like some slow countries. Well, adrenaline gets to you.

49 That's what I was just gonna say it's the adrenaline. Yeah, you kind of all the leading, all the way up to the time you stand on stage, you're shitt in your pants, and then finally you get on stage and it's like you can stop a bullet. You know, nothing can to get in the way. I know that feeling like same for me. Like I'll get up on stage announced bands or I'm also on movation speaker and it's like, right before I got up on stage, I'm like ten million thoughts are going through my head. You're super nervous, and in the minute the mic turns on, it's like you go into the zone, a switch goes off, and it's like, yeah, you're just on automatic. Yeah exactly. I played with walking pneumonia before I had walking pneumonia before I got on stage. I love it. That's so my style. And oh man, and because what happens is, Okay, while you're doing it, you don't allow yourself to feel sick, and then as soon as the gig's over, then you you give yourself permission to die. Yeah exactly. So I guys say, too, okay, punk rock bowling, but you've never played that here, which blows my mind. You've been here a million times, as you said, sometimes on stage. And here's the funniest thing. I think you were having a moment where you want to be the band in the attendee because you threw out a shirt and then caught it yourself. Yeah, that was great. I'd like to say that I planned it. I'd like to say, oh, right, that would be pretty good. So, man,

22 you got this is like your second show and what like twenty years or something. Yeah, so we the band disbanded almost twenty years ago our first show back or was it just meant to be a one off reunion show? It was with Fear and the Adolescence for a twentieth anniversary of Turbero Jugen Los Angeles, which I happened to be the president of on our drummer is the vice president of and Patty here she's a YUGEN member as well with Destructive Girls. So it was a very big Turbo Yugen event to begin with. And then we got asked to do this nice this family, all family. It was really cool, just really cool. I mean I've known Mark and Sean and Adam and Jamie forever and just to be able to play this, you know, right, like when you got that call, it was like it's about time, right yeah? Oh man. Then and so maybe you'll be like, okay, because the way you were described, maybe you'll be like the original Misfits because they just did a one off and now they're playing every festival. That's so funny that you say that, because I used to have a band called the bitch Fits I Love. I used to make fun of well, we used to make fun of I'd have a little weight and I'd pomp up with a two pound weight like, oh I'm on steroids. It was so fucking fun. Oh, we'll have to talk. Yeah, there's not a bad second show for coming back after twenty years. My mind is

54 kind of blown. I didn't know anybody had remembered or cared, but apparently they did. Yes, I mean we have great players too, I mean really too. We're really fortunately. We got Kiss Kiss fucking badass Jummer. We've got wild Bill, well look lighter Bill. He plays with a lot of other bands. He plays with Bow Wow Wow. He plays with English Speed GUIs Our drummer. He plays with He was better known for uh Dead Laslow's Players. He's played with UK Subbs. He's played with a lot of people and our our bass player, Pad Rowan, he was playing with Haunted Garage. So there's a there's a big history behind everybody here. But it's really great to have such a solid team behind us. Nice and we're really lucky. And it's funny you brought up bow Wow Wow because like from the eighties, I secretly loved Bow Wow Wow because I wasn't allowed to like them.

59 Oh yeah, it's so funny because like back then, you know how it was with the gatekeepers and shit, and like it's like you can't like this band, they're too this. Oh yeah, I did that with the Violent Fans. I was like, you know what, No, I'm not gonna like, I'm not gonna oh oh okay, right, okay, I get it. I secretly love pretty much all eighties, like all that new wave stuff. It's like, my it's my guilty pleasure. That's what I listened to in the car when I'm alone and I just want to chill out. You know, it's not all agro and everything. Well, funny story, you know, like I was a total like thrash metal head and hardcore punk both. Oh yeah, even though I wasn't supposed to be both because I couldn't go to punk gigs. I got my assh you cross the line?

48 Yeah, and I like, I have so many funny stories about that, but it's I was over my bro's house that we went to gigs here all the time, and I found this album he had there. I'm like, what the fuck is this? Yeah, and he had it hidden and I started listening. I started listening to it and it's still to this day one of my favorite albums ever. And that was Kings of the Wild Frontier Oh hell yeah, oh yeah right yeah, And you know, to me what I like about that and Bow Wow Wow? The same thing is I like that jungle beat, Like there's something to that jungle beat that like fuck yeah, well is it boo Wow on tour or going to be on tour with dadamn? That would make s happening. So it's either he's either doing Belo Wow or he's doing no No. It's English beat that's on soo oh yeah, he's a busy boy. Yeah, he's really busy right now, like holy shit, you know. And it's kind of like saying thank you, guys are gonna be really busy. It's like I think That's what's happening in music, is these younger generations are actually craving the older stuff, and then you have the older generations are like, fuck yeah, finally it's back.

07 I think that's really true. That's really true. So it's nice. And what's good too is pump has always stood for bullshit going on in the world. And can you believe that there's more bullshit now to sing about than there was twenty years ago? Like I thought it was over, There's gonna be a lot of really good music coming out in the next few years, right. You know, our songs were protest songs back when, you know, Bush was when he was president, And it's so it's kind of ironic and sad that they're all completely relevant, if not more relevant now. I've talked about that too, with like songs about Reagan like ye and the Cold War, and I mean, I remember we were teenagers and me and my brother we're like, fuck it, the whole world's gonna blow up in nineteen eighty four, anyway, who gives us shit? Yeah, and now we're living in that same crap again. And then but what really blows my mind how stupid we fucking are, has to do with your shirt? Yep, yep, how does that happen? Okay, tell them about your shirt that you're wearing, Patty, Well, I'm wearing a shirt that says abort the Supreme Court. So the Supreme Court is so corrupt and so bought and paid for it's unbelievable and people are just sucking it up. It just blows my

41 mind that a Supreme Court justice can have an upside down flag in front of his own house. Yeah, what the resurrection? I mean, there's so many things. There's so many things, and you know the idea of the me too movement, you know, really elevating the old women's movement, and now it's like, no, no, that's what I mean. How does that happen? I don't get it. Because we got they think, oh, well, you're not in your place anymore, just like with Black Lives Matter, Just like that, when once Obama got into office, they were like, we gotta put them down, gotta put him in their place. And that's why we need punk rock as punk rock fuck, yeah, you need fucking revolution. You know. Ironically, one of my favorite all time bands of Subhumans, that was coming up in just a couple of bands after us. I was just with uh Dick this morning. I'm like, I can't even tell you how I excited I am to be sharing the stage with them because it was their It was their lyrics even more than their amazing music.

50 But it was their lyrics that made me such a die hard fan, and it is specifically what drove me to want to make music in the first place. And that's what Patty and I doing since the beginning was that same protest, that same fight. I love it, you know, and he's keeping the fire, just keeping it, you know, fucking the man as as often as possible, and it needs to be done more than ever now. Like my best bro he passed away in September, but we went to like thousands of gigs together, and he was a big time environmental icon in California. He said to me one day, he goes you know, you know, I hated Reagan, hated his policies, but at least I felt that he thought he was doing what was right for the country. This idiot, Oh no, he makes Wigan look like the Dalai Lama. Yeah, Reagan would be a recon, would be a liberal liberal. Yeah, absolutely, It's like ridiculous yes, I hate the extremes. That's the problem.

50 Like, there is no Republican Party, it's just the alt right. What kills me is alternative facts. Oh really, Oh there's such a thing is alternative facts? Are you fucking kidding me? It's just unbelievable, it really is. And these people that follow the people like that, they are the ones that he would never break bread within a million years. He makes fun of him, and I'm gonna say it, they're freaking idiots for follow him like he's they're God. Oh absolutely, they're zombies. I don't know, it's a cult. I feel like if I believed in God, that he's the Antichrist, because I saw Baron. Baron looks like fucking Damien. He could be. He is a delegate in Florida now. They just elected him as a delegate. He's eighteen, just got out of high school and he's a Florida delegate. Well that's since that's DeSantis. That's Santus kissing his ass.

50 No, but let me tell you something. I live in South Florida now, thank god, I go on tour all the time. I'm hardly over there. But what I will say is is that it blows my mind. Every friend I have that's female, black, grand gay in Florida loves him. I don't. I don't get it. Jews too, I have, I have and I'm a Jew. I have family that's that's that's gay, that's that are Trump fans. But they also live in Arizona. So you know, I have a the Florida the of the West, right, I have a I have a niece it's Transgardent voted for Trump. I'm like, why would you vote for Trump? Blah blah blah. I'm like, yeah, but it's against everything you believe in and wants to take it all wayactly. You know, it's an interesting thing watching, Uh, most Republicans vote when you consider the red states are the states that generally use the majority of public assistants. They're the ones that use the majority of the very things that the party they vote for votes against. They vote against their best interest over and over and over again, and there they're buying their own bs.

11 It's it's and let me tell you something. I was very involved in the music business in the eighties on the Sunset Strip. I left it because I hate all the pose shit. Yeah, I went so I went to the other side. I went to evil sides big in the financial business. I traveled in those Trump circles in the late eighties. I would never vote for him in a million years because I knew him. Yeah, well that's funny, because I know people that work in finance too, and they, interestingly enough, said that they refer to somebody making poor financial decisions as a Trump. That it's an actual saying in the financial industry. And these idiots that are voting for him say he's a good businessman. They have no fucking clue that he's being made fun of by his peers. Right, well, listen, you're gonna laugh even worse. My ex she's a Trumper, and it makes sense because she's an idiot, But I mean, she is a full on I don't know what I was thinking, but a full on redneck hillbilly.

24 I know what you were thinking. I know where you were thinking, right, I mean, but the bottom line is, like, it's like, you're a woman with a non binary grandchild, with a trans niece, with a gay grandchild, and you're voting for that, Like it's it is kind of mind blowing. But I'll tell you what, Uh not so far off subject but I'm really concerned, to be completely frank, about this election because I honestly don't believe it matters who gets voted in. I think people are gonna the shit is gonna hit the fan. I think people are gonna lose their mind no matter who gets it. I'm alra. I have my exit strategy already prepared, like you know, and I don't go anywhere without my passport, like I took my passport to come to Vegas, right.

22 I've told all my children, I'm like, you better make sure that passports and play in case you need it. I mean, it's going on worldwide, that's the thing. It's like, fascism is growing worldwide. Oh, I see it all over like you do. Probably you know it's one hundred year cycle, think about it. That's true. We saw the same shit. I mean, remember Henry Ford, he was the president of the American Nazi Party. There was a time that this shit was acceptable. Here it went away, and it's coming back, and it's right at its on your cycle. It's right on top, well right on time. And they guessed like you, they're like, what, what's what's the problem. And to me, all those politicians anyway, they're all on the same team, and it ain't mine exactly. You know. So now two shows twenty years now, what we're going to Disneyland? I know, right, just not in Florida. I go to La One. You know what, I don't know.

32 We we we have a few things that we're looking at. We're lning up, but a lot's coming our way, so we got a lot of decisions to make. We're really excited. This is all just happening right now. You're literally watching in a real time. We don't know what's next. I love it. I love it. But we're excited that it's happening. We're excited that people are excited to have us back. And I watched your guys up on stage. You didn't look like a band was disbanded. You look like a band that you've been playing for all these years. And you're like the best of friends. Well, we are very close and I I I do crack the whip on rehearsals. Well, yeah, that's true, that's true. Tell everybody how to connect to you guys on socials, on the web, l a slumlays, you can find us on Threads, you can find us on Instagram, on Facebook, and uh, I don't even know where else. We don't have a dot com for y'all. Sorry, no TikTok. Well we are actually on TikTok, but we don't really use it. And uh yeah, just just google La Slumlayers. You'll find us there. It is. Hi, giz, how are you? That's our drummer? Nice? How you doing. You've probably had the hardest job out there with this rock, the hardest. I'm the oldest in the band, and you don't get any respect now. And you're the vice president too,

04 You're the vice president to LA. He's then field of punk rock. I love it. No respect, no respect, no respect at all at all. I think it's because I'm Mexican. Well yeah, yeah, we were just Mexican. And look at his name, turbur as fucking calls all. And I was just in Mexico a few months ago. I'm like, what did they talk about? I was part of my art Suscilita uh Sen Poncho in Mexico City and I serve. So when the festival season's over, I get the fuck out of this crazy country and I go surf and crazier country.

52 Right, But for me, it's not crazy because I'll have to deal with it. So then you guys rock here at Punk Rock Bowling. Thank you. I can't wait to see a lot more of you guys. And uh, everybody has to buy your merch and attend your shows or they can't listen to my show anymore. Just saying so thanks for us. Oh, thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you, pipe Man, thank you. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipemin on w for CUI Radio.
