Listen in as The Pipeman brings the thunder of nostalgia with JA6UR from the band Lÿnx, taking us back to the raucous era of '80s metal. Our conversation is a laugh riot, filled with anecdotes about name mix-ups and how '80s rock stars were the epitome of excess compared to today's musicians. We explore the Sunset Strip's heyday with legendary bands like Motley Crue, reminiscing about an age where Jack Daniels was the accessory of choice. JA6UR and I discuss how Lÿnx is keeping that electrifying spirit alive, possibly fitting like a glove on a tour with icons like Motley Crue, showcasing the undying allure of that high-voltage time in music history.
The journey of forming a band amidst a global pandemic is no small feat, and Lÿnx's tale is one of resilience and rock 'n' roll revival. We unpack the excitement of transitioning from uncertain beginnings to electrifying live performances that capture the soul of '80s metal. Our chat touches on the power of a single track to ignite a crowd and the band's frontman's insistence on live gigs to channel the authentic vibe of the decade. As I reflect on my own experiences with Halloween gigs and advice from a Metal Blade Records owner, we look forward to Lÿnx's upcoming album - a fusion of punk and hair metal, promising a return to the unabashed rebellion of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.
Wrap up your day with a blast from the past as we chat with Lÿnx's lead vocalist about his transition from mellow acoustic sets to fronting a high-octane rock band. His tale of joining the band and their dedication to a theatrical live presence is as compelling as the anthems they perform. We delve into the importance of creating an entire artistic experience - from the visuals to the lyrics - and how it ties into the immersive world of '80s music culture. For those eager to join the party, we share how fans can connect with the band, dive into their new music, and snag some killer merch. Tune in for a rocking ride with Lÿnx, where the promise of a good time is as steadfast as their riffs.

(0:00:05) - Rock 'N' Roll Nostalgia Revived (7 Minutes)
This chapter kicks off with an energetic introduction by yours truly, the Hyped man, where I bring the essence of W4CY Radio to life. I have the pleasure of welcoming JA6UR from the band Lÿnx to the show, where we chuckle over the common mispronunciations of his name. JA6UR shares the relatable mix-ups with "JA6UR" and "Jaguar," fitting given the band's feline moniker. We reminisce about the iconic '80s metal scene, drawing parallels to today's music world, while JA6UR reflects on his personal connections to the era through his family's musical tastes. We laugh over a meme that contrasts '80s rock stars with today's musicians, and JA6UR assures us that he's keeping the spirit alive with his own Jack Daniels moments. Our conversation takes a nostalgic turn as I recount firsthand experiences with legendary bands like Motley Crue, emphasizing the unforgettable and often wild nature of the Sunset Strip days. We wrap up by discussing Lÿnx's draw to the vibrant aesthetics and sounds of '80s metal, and I even suggest they'd be a great fit to join a Motley Crue tour, celebrating the timeless influence of that electric era on today's music scene.
(0:06:57) - Band Formation and Album Inspiration (7 Minutes)
This chapter takes us through the journey of a band that bravely formed during the pandemic, facing the challenges of lineup changes and the shift to live performances as restrictions eased. We explore the band's decision to keep an energetic track in their set after an electric response from a small dive bar crowd, and how the band's new frontman insisted on playing live, embracing the quintessential '80s metal vibe. I reflect on the influence of Halloween gigs, iconic venues like The Roxy and The Troubadour, and the impact of music recommendations from a record store clerk who happened to own Metal Blade Records. We discuss the upcoming first full-length album, set to release on May 9th, and how it signifies the band's evolution, incorporating a blend of punk and '80s hair metal with an almost anarchist ethos, aiming to revive the spirit of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.

We also touch on the electrifying live performances audiences can expect, emphasizing the theatrical aspect of their shows. Furthermore, we discuss the significance of musicians having distinct on-stage personas and the importance of the complete artistic package, including album artwork and lyrics, harking back to the immersive experiences of the 80s. The conversation wraps up with details on how fans can connect with the band, access their new music and merchandise, and the upcoming album release, ensuring listeners know where to find all the rocking essentials.

0:00 Hi, you have done to censure for Wow, Crazy Young ro whycoume of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipeman on W four c Y dot Com with Pomp Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. This is the pipe in here on the Adventures pipe an W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with pretty cool ass musicians.
1:02 Well we have one of them here, but they're all cool ass musicians. So let's welcome to the show. Jagger from Lynx, How are you not bad? How's it going to you? So? Did I pronounce your name right? Because I just ab about it? You know, you never know, okay like it? They look like that's the way you're supposed to pronounce it, and they're like, well no, and you know, so yeah, definitely. I get a lot of it too, like just spell weird too. So yeah, So let me ask you a question. That's a funny way to start off. What are the funniest or worst pronunciations that you've gotten? I get Yagger a lot. Yeah, Jagger's pretty pretty common.
1:48 And I get Jaguar. That one's good, especially with with the cat theme of the bands. Right, Yeah, that one's pretty common. Yeah, those two or the no one spelled already. So I could see the Yager too, because immediately as soon as you said that, I wouldn't have thought of it by just looking at the name. But as soon as you said that, I immediately thought of your mar Yagger. Oh yeah, the hockey player. So yeah, like I could see maybe if somebody and I am into hockey, but I could see somebody that's like got hockey on the brain, they might be thinking that right there. Oh for sure, for sure that Yagger bombs. For sure, there you go, absolutely, well, you can't have eighties medal without yet Yager bombs, even though I'm from eighties medal and there was no Yaeger back then. But if there was it yeah, no, it's it's it's all. But the Jack Daniels exactly well that you know, hanging out at the Rainbow during the eighties, that was what it was all about. Oh. Absolutely. Did you ever see the main meme? Okay, so it goes right along with that, there's this meme of the rock star from the eighties and the rock star Now did you ever see that meme? I don't think so, No, Okay, So It's so funny because the picture on top is of this long haired hair metal dude
3:23 lying on the ground guitar, you know, his hand in one hand and Jack Daniels in the other hand, and then it shows the rock star of today with the guitar on his lap, sitting at the laptop. Yeah. I mean that's how it is these days. You know, it's a difference, right with the Jack Daniels Absolutely Well, there you go, So you're you keep it real there, because I lit lived through all those times that all that was going on. In fact, I was at the part when Vince Neil and Razsell went on that beer run. Yeah. I used to hang out with Mick Marr's at the Jams Mall on Thousand Oaks. Yeah.
4:15 So I'll tell you what, That's really what propelled me even further into metal, because you know, before the Sunset Strip days of Motley Crue and all the bands that were there, you know, you basically had made and you had priest, you had stuff like that does into But I remember the first time I went to a club show, and it was at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. It was Motley Crue before they even had their first album. And I just remember going, oh, my fucking god, I'm never going to a real concert ever again. This was the best shit ever.
4:57 And like after the show, we're all walking up to Rainbow. I think about it now, I'm like I was like, hell no at the time, I was fourteen fifteen. I'm like, I look at the Rainbow now, like if I go there now, I'm like, how the hell did I ever get in this place? Oh? That's right. I was walking in with people like Motley Crue. Yeah, there you go, we walk into the Motley Creue. You going anywhere you want to go exactly, And there's no exaggeration to any of the stories. Like listen, if you remembered eighties on the Sunset Strip, you weren't there, Yeah, yeah, man, So what is it that prompted you guys to have such, you know, like an a connection to that eighties scene? Like, because I think it's just way cool that here we are in twenty twenty four and bringing that back and there's a lot of it out there now. Yeah. Well for me personally, and the same with a lot of the guys, like that's what kind of we grew up with, like our my dad playing that kind of stuff around the house. All the cruise s could row rats and arella that kind of stuff. So it's something I grew up with. And then just just seeing that that kind of that scene, that culture, that the trends and whatnot, the big old hair, and it's it's like it's there's something that's like gravitational to it, right, it really pulls you in and it's it's it's hard not to look at right. That's me just being the
6:30 attention wore that I am. That's exactly what I want. I want people look at me. So figure out the more hair I have and the higher my vocals are, then you know we're set there it is. And I did see you guys. I saw a video of you guys doing Live Wire, and I think maybe you guys should go on and do the Montley Crue tour. Thank you man, thank you. Yeah. I know it's it's it's a great song. We uh we out of that tour set me six months after we started playing live I pushed for that one hard too, but once we added it, we we played a smaller any like it's like this little bar bar, like a dive bar place, but we played it last and we're like the it was Molly Crue. There's a pit going and everything is like that. Staying in the set for sure. Nice. I love it. And speaking of starting like, I gotta give you major props because it's awful ballsy to start a band during the pandemic, for sure. Definitely didn't make things easy the rest of the guys. I'm I don't know if you know where I'm the I'm the second singer of the band. Actually, so they started during the pandemic, just doing some two EPs there the original singer, and things don't work out. He didn't want to play live, and I just wasn't right for the band. So I joined in right tail end of the pandemic hurt, when things are starting to open up. I
8:03 got in the band for s I says, we're playing live, so right, Yeah, you can't be an eighties you can't be an eighties metal band and not play live like that was the second point. Yeah, Yeah, so that's what we did. We did our first show on Halloween of one, and we we tried to do the whole, the whole Motky doing, bringing the smoke cannons and all the theatrics we can to the show. So it was definitely a really fun time. I love that, and I love you know you brought up Halloween because that was also like that was really like that. That Roxy show was my first club show, and then after that the next show was what really made me just hang out at the Sunset Strip, the Troubadour, the Country Club and in Reseda like all the time.
8:54 And it was on Halloween and I remember. Okay, So we used to go to this record store in the valley called OZ Records, and there was a store clerk there that worked there that would always recommend music to us, because back then you couldn't listen to Spotify, like you had to buy shit, and evedn't even know what sounded like. And if you went to shows, it was because you saw a picture and you're like, oh, they look cool, We're going to that show. You didn't even know what they sounded like. And that dude that was that record store clerk was also the owner of this small record label at the time called Metal Blade Records. Oh I'm sure you've heard, yeah, And so we were in there one time and there was this magazine it was called band Magazine. It was like a newspaper magazine for you know, the music scene in Hollywood and stuff, And there was this ad for this show for and they weren't just on tour recently.
9:56 Both bands Wasp and Armored and this other band, Headshaker that doesn't exist today, but it was Wasp and Armored saying the picture was of Wasp and I was like, man, they are cool as hell. And I went to that show on Halloween and I that's when I ended up like meeting from then on all those bands, like the bands you mentioned, met and partied with them all. Like it was just this one big scene back then where just everybody knew everybody. It was fun, it was partying, it was having the time of your life. And I think that's what your music is about, is like, forget all this bullshit we're going on in the world, okay, escape in the music. And you guys have that type of music that gives you the vibe where you can feel good and not worry about all the crap going on. Absolutely, man, thanks love for that.
10:52 Yeah, definitely. Yeah, that's kind of another big part of like why we're choosing to pursue the kind of music we are, Like that's such a huge, huge, anthem of like, you know, fuck everyone else, right, we're here to we want to do and and try and make some some cool songs out of it. And I think with this new album, we've we've definitely achieved that and I'm really really excited for it. So, so tell us about the new album. You know, if anybody's happened to listen to your previous albums EPs, this is the first full length album, which it drops on May ninth, And uh so, how would you say this has created like involvement for the band because I always find that even and back then, you know, the first and second We're really good because it was the club stuff. It was the stuff that was familiar, but it was about time where you got to those like full length albums that you were really forming who you were as a band. Yeah, exactly, And I think that's true with this especially is like I mentioned, like, I'm I'm the second singer coming to the band here and ideally the last. Yeah.
12:07 So the first two albums they definitely had that same kind of an eighties feel, more hard rock kind of thing. I came in and when we started writing stuff together, we found this different kind of like aggression. We didn't have before, and we were able to write some really cool songs, some more punk feel to it, some more of that that real eighties hair metal vibes to it, and just that almost anarchist vibe. Two things. There's it's it's sex, drugs, rock and roll, and that's what we're here to try and try and revive. See And I love that too because when I went to that first month late cruise show, they weren't glam, they weren't hair metal because there was no such thing yet. They were actually like horror punk. Yeah, Shout at the Devil was their original music. Too Fast for Love was what the record labels wanted to put out exactly. Yeah.
13:00 So yeah with this album, it's yeah, this album, it's uh, it's exactly what we wanted to do. We uh, we have a lot of a lot better teamworking together now, and it's it's been amazing with coming on and I've been writing lyrics and helping rearrange parts of the songs and just writing what I can and helping as much as and to have so many of my lyrics just work out so well. With with what Blades Bread, with what with Things has written, it's been it's been super super cool. It's process. So tell me what happened. Since you're the second singer, how did they come to you or you come to them? It was funny.
13:45 I was hanging out, uh, hang out with this girl, just scrolling through Facebook, and I see always it's always a girl, right see this post I was. I was just see my solo music at the time, which is it's uh, not so much rock but more kind of acoustic kind of stuff. But I love playing bands. I've played in bands since I was sticks or something, so but I see this post for Calgary eighties hairband looking for lead vocalists, and like, I'm a lead vocalist and it's great. So I threw him, threw him a message, told him about my story, my influences kind of thing, and I got a call for an audition. Went to my audition and Fangs is the one who calls me a couple of days later, and he's an asshole. So he calls and he goes a man, We're really sorry to tell you. Man, I talked to the whole band and really fought for you, but unfortunately he're than He was a singer of Links. So I love that to me. I would so do that myself. So those live shows, Okay, tell us more about what we can expect that live show, because that's what it's all about. To put it simply, is energy. We were a really high energy band, uh, and we get to the crowd moving, and that's that's what we're here to do. Man. We're here to provide something that and all other bands in the city are doing right now, and and it's
15:16 such an interactive experience and it's it's it's from what I've heard from a lot of people who have come to is it's not something you can find with with any other band. There's not a whole lot of those head bang and fake your ass kind of bands anymore. So Uh, it's it's something you expect for us. You know, I'm myself and the rest of the band. We're all very theatrical guys, so you know, it's as much of a show as it is a performance. Uh. And it's such super fun stuff man, that's the way it should be too. Okay, Like, because I've talked about this, in fact, that a debate about this with somebody recently on social media, because like everything's a freaking debate on there but it's it's like, you know, somebody was talking about out some band. I can't even remember what it was, but I just remember them arguing about, you know, being a performer, and and like that is what you are when you're getting up on stage. You're a performer. You're you know.
16:14 People don't realize that there's multiple assets of personal personality assets to everybody, but even more so for a musician, like who you are on stage doesn't mean that's exactly who you are off stage. People want to be entertained. Music is Music is more than just the music. It's a complete package. It's the art, which I love the artwork of the album. Yeah, yeah, that's the that's the album or the single cover. The album cover also got released as well. Yeah it's Birch coming with that too. And so I love the art this album. Yeah, that's all. It's all important to me, like and that it also brings us back to the eighties, gets back in the eighties. Yeah. I would sit on my balcony, buy an album, listen to the album ten million times, and while I was doing, look at all the artwork, every little detail, check out all the lyrics. That's why you know, people will say, like people from the eighties, they know every lyric to every song and that's why because it was like homework exactly. Yeah, yeah, and that's that's what we've done with this album too, all of our we just got our vinyls and physical CDs in the whole thing has got your little pamphlet with all your lyrics in it and the artwork inside. Same with the vinyl and yeah, we're doing the whole eighties experience on the new album here. So I love it
17:44 And how do people connect to you guys on socials on the web, get your merch check out the new album.
