On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Jose and Chris, two members of the band Incubus. The conversation takes place at Welcome to Rockville, and Pipeman starts by asking them how it feels to be there. Incubus mentions that it feels good now that the clouds are gone, as the weather had been a concern earlier. They discuss the differences in weather and surfing between the coasts and reminisce about the days when people would buy albums and listen to them in their entirety, as opposed to the current trend of streaming individual tracks.

Pipeman asks what's been going on with the band lately, and Incubus reveals that they have a lineup change with a fill-in bass player named Nicole Rowe. They have the rest of the year planned out with shows and are considering working on new music as well. Pipeman expresses his awe at how artists can continue to create new music after being in the industry for a long time, and Incubus explains that the writing process remains the same, but the challenge lies in getting new people to listen to it in the age of short attention spans.

The conversation delves into the changing landscape of the music industry, with Pipeman and Incubus discussing how music consumption has become fast-paced, and the focus on singles has reduced the attention given to full albums. They also touch on the impact of technology and misinformation on finding accurate information about music. Incubus emphasizes that music is meant to evoke emotions, and their passion as artists is to continue creating music they love.

As the interview concludes, Pipeman asks Incubus about their favorite songs to play live, and they mention "Karma Comeback" and "The Warmth" as notable choices. They share their website, incubushq.com, as a hub for connecting with them and finding tour dates and merchandise. Incubus also mentions their upcoming tour with Paris Jackson and Badflower, expressing excitement for the summer tour.

0:04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm see why for you? Wake up of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four C. Why do com West pom Beach is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. Sometimes I feel the fair of uncertainty stinging clear. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures my Man W four CY Radio. And I'm here with My name is Jose. My name is Chris, two fifths of the band Incubis. Yes here at Welcome to Rockville. How does it feel to be here? It actually feels pretty good now that the clouds are over top of us. I know, I was a bit worried because today I had like eleven interviews and at the start they already went code orange. I'm like, oh man, I'm gonna lose every interview. I'm predictable. Here are you now? I'm telling you, Yeah, it's California. You know it's always sunny. But you know, ninety degrees here is like one hundred degrees shalley. It's dry. You can

1:37 deal with it. You know. You get to limit that where you get here, where you just can't be outside. Oh no doubt, see I live here. Now, but I also grew up in LA and it is different. And now I go back to LA and my friends are like, man, it's so humid out. I'm like, what are you talking about, because I'm so used to hear humidity. Right, it is heavy, Yeah, exactly. You know what else, it's different, big different from me. I'm a surfer and I start surfing the Pacific Coast. It's hard on this side because the way you could be perfectly placed for the wave and it just passes you by. Yeah. Yeah, it is much different surfing from one coast to the other. Oh and where I live down south near West Palm Beach, the Bahamas blocks us. So we kind of like we root for a hurricane, like please let the hurricane. Yeah, yeah, totally one hundred percent. So tell us what's been going on lately with you guys. Well, you got new coming up and all that good stuff.

2:36 We got new it's just us playing shows. We got pretty much the rest of the year planned out for gigs. We have a filling bass player for Ben Kenny or Nathan Nicole Row She's amazing nice come check her out as well. What else we got going on us? You know, just at some point start writing new music material or at least entertaining it. You know. Yeah, just this year will be working on all I think, what's it like after all this these years? I always wonder how I'm always in awe of artists I can write new music after being around for such a long time. It's like sometimes I think, how do you come up with new material? So that's pretty cool? Tell us how that happens. The writing process stays pretty much the same, you know. I think we can all be creative and write new music. It's getting new people to listen to it and nobody like it's like nobody wants to hear the new music, but listen.

3:30 Sometimes it's the best music, you know, and if they would just give it a chance, especially nowadays, like you're saying, it's like you got like two seconds. Like I talked to some rsts that they said they had to change how they write songs for the days we live in now because people have such a short attention span. If you do like an intro for thirty seconds, nobody's going to hear the real song. Yeah, And you know, if you take a look at some of our older records, like Make Yourself for example, you know, our biggest single on that was dry five, and that's at the end of the record, right if you put that out of the day, nobody would ever hear that song exactly. But like back then, you put an album because it looked cool and you had no idea what it sound like, so you and you had to buy it, so you had to listen to the whole album, so you got your money's worth. Yeah, as a as a person that loves music, I love that you could. You could look at everything on the album cover, the pictures, the credits, everything. Right now, everything's just moves so fast.

4:27 There's no time for that. It's like you have to be really digging to go find who produced that record or what guitar player played on that. You know, you just you google it, man, right there, right there, You got all the info right there. It may not always be correct, but something's gonna come up. Well, it's like you know about that, when is it there's somebody that does this thing of Wikipedia true or false, and most of the time it's false. Well you can anyone can go in and just edit the stupid things, right, Like you're gonna get a lot of crap, you know, But that's that's like, that's normal now, you know what I mean. And people believe it. I know. They don't want to do any due diligence, any background, any research to figure out what's true, what's not in Yeah, yeah, it really is and it really is not. Yeah, And you know it's interesting because Okay, so I was at one festival you guys were playing at and I was with a friend of mine, and every song you played, they're like, before you came out, I'll know a Incubis songs. And then every song you played, oh I know that song. Oh I know that song.

5:29 Oh I know that song. We're definitely that band, the Faceless band. No one knows of our music until you hear it. I was like, oh yeah, and it's so badass. So it's like, how do they not know? It's my view, and that's why they Back in the day, I would sit on my balcony with headphones on and I would just listen to album over and over and over again and go through everything in the album. And that's why you do associate with bands, whereas now you're just track track track. You're like, well, that's a good song, but I have no clue who that trust was. Yeah, Yeah, that's kind of it's crazy how the game has changed. But for us, I mean we're kind of we still continue to do what we do. We'll still write music, We'll still probably make long intros and just continue to do it.

6:16 Well, I'm glad because we enjoy it, we love it, and that's our passion. So we're just gonna continue to do it how we know how to do it, and we we're evolving as time goes on anyway, So it's just you know, that's just it's just a different world really. Oh and you know, I love that because it means you're a true artist, true musicians, because you should really play what you want to play. You know, sometimes you play and there's bands that play for the crowd and you can tell that they don't have the same passion as if they were writing the music and playing it for themselves. I think you should be your biggest fan. Yeah, absolutely, And you know, fortunate for us, we have five people in the band, so it's got to go through five different field.

7:00 Yes, so that helps us out a little bit better than a single artist. But you know, when we're writing, we try to do that exactly that we're like Okay, what do we like? We gotta play this song for who knows how long? What do we like? If it passes that filter and we worry about everything else? There you go. That's the way to do it. One story, good or bad, in this whole career of music that you're gonna tell when you're like eighty years old, what would be that. I'm alive, I survived it. That's my story. I'm here. He's been thirty three years, thirty two years, wow, and I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, that is a feat. You know. We we've made it through the nineties into two thousands, two thousand and tens, and now we're in the two thousand and twenties. Does that blow your mind? By the way, it's crazy. You know, it makes me feel old because I don't. I don't feel old in my brain.

7:48 Right. People start talking about things like that or you did this, or that was back in nineteen ninety eight. Remember that, I'm like a different century. It was a different century. That blows. What blows my mind too, is we can still talk about the same thing some songs now that we talked about back in the eighties and the nineties. That's sad, but it's true. You know what's greatest about music is that it's emotional. Yeah, it touches your emotions. That's what it's supposed to do. It and emotions are the same since the beginning of time. Love is love. Hey to say it angers anger, you know when you really break it down to that. That's what music is supposed to do, is supposed to make you feel something. Is there a song that either one of you prefer to play most live? I think it depends on that's hard. Who are you asking on what day? Yeah? So for you and for you, I've been enjoying Karma Comeback, which is a song off of one of our EPs that we put out in seventeen. I think something like that. Nice, that's a cool vibe. Yeah, that's a great song. That's really fun to play. It's a little newer song, so you know, we still we still enjoy playing it a lot. I think one of my favorite songs is the Warmth. It's just, you know, kind of it's like timeless and speaks to what's been going on before when we wrote it, and it's still today. So I like that song. Nice. I love it, so people should know. But justin gaze how did they reach out to you guys to connect on socials to buy your merge, to check out your music, tour dates and all that. Yeah, we have a incubis hq dot

9:18 com they can go to. It's kind of like our headquarters. I love it all things Incubus and then you know, on all the socials Incubis Official. So you know we're on a gram a lot and Facebook. And did you do TikTok yet? No? I'm too old for that, right right. I see TikTok on Instagram, So I'm kind of like I'm cool right there. Yeah, there you go. That's enough TikTok? Right? So is there anything that you want to listeners to know that we haven't covered yet that they need to know about anything about Incubus or anything upcoming? Man? Well, yeah, like I said before, we were on tour, So go out and buy tickets at incubshq dot com and give us a chance and listen to that second to last song on the album. I love it, And you know, it's pretty cool. I saw that you're taking Paris Jackson on tour with you. Yeah that's pretty cool. Yeah, Yeah, that's gonna be a fun summer tour. That kicks off when and in July late yeah, I think yeah late July or so bad Flower and Paris Jackson.

10:20 It's gonna be a good tour. What a great line up right there, Like I'm gonna be at that show because that's gonna be badass, like the whole thing. So I love it all right, kinds, Well, you guys are amazing here, Welcome to Rockville. I am so excited and thanks for being on the Adventures pipe Man. Yeah, thank you, appreciate it, my pleasure.
