04 Hey, you have done to censure? Why pray you? Why become of America. It's time for the Adventures of White Man on W four c HY dot com. West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the white Man spot in the way. This is white Man here on the Adventure's Pipe Man W four c Y Radio and I'm here with Nick Yes here at after Shock. Oh my god, is this like the most amazing festival. It's incredible and this is ending the year for us, so we're in it. Oh here, that's a great way to end the year.
12 Have you guys ever done after Shock before this time? Wow? Well you think of this media artist area and like no other festival has this right, it's incredible. I mean you guys have everything set up too, like it's like living rooms. And did you see their cooking food out there? And no I did not. Oh yeah, that's a chef out there cooking food. There's a drip bar, there's free alcohol. They didn't hold back, that's for sure. Later in the afternoon, this place will be packed with artists and nobody will be doing their interviews because everybody will just be hanging out party. We'll be here partying. There you go, we will so tell us what we're in store here from you guys at after Shock? How badass are you guys? Live? We love playing live. We literally put everything into it. I'm humping the stage, stomping around, jumping on people, so I guess they can expect that from me. Yeah, we like playing live. I think that's maybe one of the better things that we do.
06 You know, he's like, he's a very soft spoken, doesn't say much until he gets on stage. By stage, it's like an animal comes out. Well. Most people don't even realize that. Most artists off stage are total introverts. Yeah, and then it's just a role you play, just like on the radio. Like I play a role. It's funny how people believe that role sometimes too, Like they think it's real life, just like reality shows. I mean, I've had I'll tell you a funny story. I had an ex wife of mine called my daughter who was working at the radio station. She goes, what happened to your father? I was married to him for twelve years. He was never that obnoxious. He's such a player now, like I'm the same guy totally. And then she wanted to reconcile with me because of that, because she thought I was a player, not like just like did you fuck no leave it in the past.
01 Yeah, No, you gotta always move forward, always move there's always a reason. You ever notice that with an ex, if you ever even like think about getting back with them, you just need to spend a short amount of time and you remember the reasons why you're not with it. Yeah. I years ago, I my ex and I broke up, got back together, broke up, and it was like, yeah, this is always this is gonna fail right in the end. I don't. I mean, I'm gonna remember what I hate about you. And even I change you, you know, like that's your journey. It's not my job. I'm not trying to think I need to change it. You just live your life. But maybe we're not compatible exactly. And you know the fact is, even if people try to be on their best behavior, like you tell them things and then they change, it only lasts like two weeks, yeah before because you gotta be you. Yeah, And if they and if they're on a path of change, it's it's their own like it's their healing journey, you know.
52 And I think that's what's true of music too. To be a good band, you have to be you, not what the record labels say you should be, not what the fans say you should be, not what I say you should be, what you say you should be. Really, that's what's going to create the longevity whenever you try to change for all these other people. Yeah, maybe you get a little success for a little while, and then it fades out and it's gone because people can see right through that, yeah, authenticity, And you're right like, yeah, people are a lot smarter than you give them credit for. They can see. They may not know what it is that they don't like, but they smell rats. Yeah. If I look at a band up on stage, I can tell if they're just totally passionate having a great time and camaraderie, or if they're up there like I can't wait to get off because I hate these people I'm with, or you know, you ever see those bands that that shouldn't be together anymore. I've seen some bands that look like maybe it's like they're trying to put off like this like mystery, this cool factor, but they look like they're not really having fun up there, and therefore I'm not having fun in the crowd, no doubt. Oh yeah, I think goddings can tell.
55 Yeah, so what was the moment in your life that you knew this is what you needed to do? Yeah, because yours you want radio, and then something happened. I was going to be on the radio, but on your side. Yeah, it's our bass player over there. Nice. This is the only thing I've ever done. So I don't even know that I am consciously aware of a moment, because it's I haven't really ever stopped to think about it, so maybe I forgot. There was definitely a moment though. Yeah, you've been playing guitar since you were a kid, and you would lock yourself in your bedroom for like ten hours a day. Yeah, that's a true guitarist right there. Introvert doesn't need to see the world. What is sunlight? That's nick. I grew up on the stage in other forms. I did a lot of theater on the East Coast. There wasn't a lot of punk bands where I grew up, so it was like, all right, you want to be a singer, you want to be a performer, this is where you go. But it wasn't until I moved to LA and I saw I was doing music before. But I think when I saw the band Savages play and they were playing in Los Angeles and seeing Jenny Beth up there in the way she just was thismbodiment of just power, I knew, like, I want that and I want I want to be that too for somebody else. I feel like it's all about energy and that got me out of a place where I had the most insecurity, and I want to be able to maybe pull like get that to somebody else, pay it for it. And the people on the other end, they need somebody like you because they can relate, you know, post if somebody just there's
29 a difference between somebody telling you how you should do things and somebody that shows you by being that you know and what they went through and where they can relate. That's where music is so key, because it is best therapy for you the artist and for me the listener. Yeah, I mean music has been nothing but therapy for me personally, especially in this band. It's all very cathartic. I went through a loss with my parents both passing away, and this band kind of started because of that because it was an act of It was about healing and then that music, we just put it out not expecting anything, and then while we're here today, so it's affecting somebody in a positive way. I love it. What do you want to add to that? Yeah, that's true. I mean we're always surprised when people tell us how much the music we've made has meant to them. And we get emails all the time from people that can relate to Cat's story and her personal experience, and that is really amazing because we work on the music and we make it and we don't always think about the effect that it's going to have on people. And it's really cool. You know. I love it.
32 That's what it's all about it and we need it more than ever nowadays. Cuse man, outside this festival, it's kind of a fucked up place out there. Yeah, it's a lot of hats stuff happened in the world today, especially, but yeah, I feel like it's healing, you know, And there's so many ways you can you can be a part of change, and you know, I think there's more than one way. So this is one of our ways. And look at this, we're gonna have one hundred thousand people here after shock that nobody's an outsider. There's no outside problems. We're just all here as one big family, enjoying the music and escaping everything else. Absolutely, and that's why I'm here. Yeah, hey, you know right, what you got going on after after Shock? Well, we're working on a record. We did just drop two songs and we have an EP coming out in November. But we also have another album that we're working on too, So as soon as we get back, we're gonna go right back into the studio. I love that. Yeah, new music, that's kind of the next thing that's coming. We're preparing some stuff for later this year is already ready to go, and then the more stuff for next year is what we'll be focusing on. You And how about the new music?
43 Would you say, as you've evolved as artists and things have gone on in the world, how would it be the same, How would it be different of previous music? Definitely different. I mean it sounds like us. But we noticed when we started touring that the recorded music that we had prior to touring, because we didn't start touring until twenty twenty one. We played a lot in Los Angeles, but we didn't actually go on the road, right and we notice in every city we would get the same response from people I checked out your music because we were always opening for the headliners, so I checked out your music and yeah, I liked it, but live like you blew me away, or they'll say, like, your music is so much heavier, more aggressive live, but the recordings are they don't really represent what you guys are like live. So we took that to heart, and we also felt the same way. We were like, you know what we do, see what you're seeing. So we were made sure that all the new music we started to put out this year and forward really embodies what we are like live, so there is no disconnect. So it's gonna get heavier and more aggressive. So yeah, and I love that personally because I like heavier and more aggressive. But I like most of all about what you said is the live aspect, because to me, if you're not good live, it doesn't matter. And there's bands one in particular that played yesterday that I didn't like him until I saw him live and then I was like, oh, my fucking god, they're so good and right. And then there's other bands that I really like and I'm like, I could just go home and listen
18 to music, you know, and it makes a big difference because then that makes me like it even less. And the band I'm talking about from yesterday is Godsmack. Oh yeah, so Like I just remember the first time I saw him, I was like, what a great live show? And then I love how Soy gets up there like he did yesterday. He's like, hey, guess what, you know what we do? We actually play our instruments. It's well, yeah in this day is right, so laptops and no doubt. But and that's cool too if that's your thing, but you know, way to do it right. I think every artist has to be true to themselves period because that's the only way they're going to really connect with the audience. Speaking and connecting. Tell listeners how they can connect you on socials on the web, check out your new music when it drops, tour dates, and most importantly, buy your merch because that's the only way you survive. Yes, everything's at holyworsmusic dot com. All of our socials are at Holywors Music. Merch is great. We're dropping brand new merch that's going to be in support of our EP called Cult Classic on November tenth. And yeah, I have no live dates to share yet, c but next year we will be having a lot of live dates. But I hate where I can't say it yet, which is why they have Well that's why they have to connect on social so they could get updated when it happened. They connected.
46 I talk so much crap about social media apps, but it's the only way we can stay connected. So follow us, you know, tak a bitch about the internet together. It's funny though, cause social media, like I'm the same as you. But then there's also the other side of it. It's like for bands. It sucks for bands because it's a lot of work and a lot more to do, and you know, it's not about it's the business side of it, which is not fun for an artist. But on the other side of it, there's so many more ways to reach people. Yeah, I mean there's like everything is good and a bad and yeah, definitely you get a lot more, uh that exposure that maybe you wouldn't be able to do except for plan live. But I have to say the touring has always been the best for us too. You've gotten the most follows dms by even doing that than trying to do it just TikTok, trend or something I know right, especially a festival like this, because you reached so many people that probably would never find you exactly you know. So I love it. I love that you're at after Shock. Thank you, thanks for having me. Oh, thank you for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipemin on w fur CUI Radio
