04 Hey, you have done to censure. I'm see wow for you young. Why Coup America, It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four c why dot com West pomp Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. Close out, money book. Sign sunk. We know that nothing you less or whoever? Well, we reached the eleven year outside you only Forever's.
58 A white man here on the Adventures by NW four CY Radio. And I'm here with Lucas and I'm Ben and we're holding absence. Yeah, so I gotta tell you what the biggest trip is here. Okay, we're here at Louder than Life, which is cool as hell. But what's even cooler is just the other day, I was a family get together and my son he poured some coffee into his coffee mug and it cracked, and they start telling the story about how the Japanese used gold as glue to play it back together, and I was like, Wow, that's freaking weird. You want to tell them why that's so weird.
40 Well, it's cool more than weird, I think. Yeah, obviously, the thing you're on about is something called kintsugi, and kinsugi is when in Japan for centuries now, if something if a like a vase would smash, they would put gold in the glue and then the vaz technically was more valuable. Yeah, so that was a big thing. And obviously our new al, The Noble Out of Self Destruction, was heavily inspired by that. So that's why that's the weird part. The other it is cool, but that's the weird parts. Like I never heard of this in my life, and last week literally, yeah, we were just talking about I'm like, I even called my son. I'm like, you're not gonna believe this. My next interview is about that.
21 Yeah, that's crazy, man. Yeah, I know, it's a really fascinating idea. It's cool. It is, and I never know about it is cool. How'd you guys find out about that? I don't know. It's just one of those things. Really, I actually can't even remember. I think someone told me about it. It's one of those things because it's centuries old. They've been doing it since the sixteen hundreds, I think, So it's ex it's crazy. But I find like, I find Asia very fascinating as a continent because it feels like the most different from the world that I know like America. We're British obviously, so we've always felt a kinship with America. But then when you look at photos of Tokyo, or when you watch interviews or listen to music from Japan, if or China or whatever, it feels very like compelling almost, And I think Kintugi felt like that for me.
06 So how do you like being from the UK? I cover Download every year I cover Bloodstock. How do you compare a lot of life to download? I mean, I immediately like it more because it's not raining, and we're not like up to our knees in mud and. That's today and crap, that's today, Tomorrow the hurricane's coming, but today we're. Good weather aside, this is our first time out louder than life. We've not long been up. The caterine is gorgeous. The festival sounds like a really cool vibe. I think the layout is amazing. I think I like American festivals because there seems to be a lot of effort put into just like the sort of customer experience and the band experience. Everywhere you look there seems to be something going on. So I really really really like that about loud in the life so far.
54 See. I love hearing that because we've always viewed like the European and the UK festivals, of those they know how to do it right. But Danny Wimmer, who does Louder than Life, after Shock and all the rest of them, I think he has taken that model and even made it better, and I agree brought it to more of what it should be, whereas there's other festivals in the States you might not be so impressed with. In fact, probably the opposite, and the one thing I always hear from every band after covering Danny Wimmer festivals for probably like thirteen years or something like that, every artist has something good to say about how they're treated here at a Danny Wimmer f Yeah.
45 Well, we were on a tour with Census Fail last year where we did after Shock for the first time as part of the routine, and the guys were on tour with in a Bank l thousand below said the same thing. They said, wait until you do a Danny Wimmer festival, and they were right, because After Shock was a great time too. After Shock's fun too, right, Yeah, Like you have the lounge here, but in after Shock it's like an intimate artist media lounge where everybody's just hanging and chilling all day and all night. So it's cool. So tell us a little bit about you guys. For the listeners that have never heard you, how would you paint the picture for him? About your music, your live show where I.
27 Always say that we're like a very passionate band. I think whatever we do is very there's no half measures. It's like, if one of our songs is gonna be upbeat, then you're gonna want to jump, You're gonna want to marsh you're gonna want to dance, And if one of our songs is emotional, then you're gonna want to go home and read the lyrics and connect to it. So I think a big part of our band is, like, there's no such thing as like passive listening, if that makes sense. You're either in or you're out. And I think, yeah, if people want to feel things and want to feel them to the full, like our band really really tries to achieve that. We work really hard. As a sixth time in America in three years, wow, so we're every We've just got our fourth visa in our passports in the last three years. It's like, so we really make sure to like bust our asses and just make sure that if there is a fan out there, they're gonna have the best experience with our band, you know what I mean.
17 So I love that, and I love the word passion because that's what music is. And you as an artist, if you don't have passion, you're in the wrong business because everything else could suck. Yeah. I think the thing is a lot of people lose passion round about the time where money gets involved. So it's like the music industry is a bit of a car crash right now. But there is money some in some pockets, and I think generally where people where there is money, there seems to be less passion. And I think for us it's so important that hopefully we can traverse this industry and make you know, a living for ourselves. But at the same time, I never want to lose the passion and that connection that we have with our fans, no doubt, and you.
57 Know the listeners. Okay, So you're talking about that with passion, and I think music some of the best therapy there is. Yeah, And with everything going on in the world right now and everything people are experiencing with mental health and all that. Thank God we have bands like you that are performing because we can relate to the lyrics. We can relate to a lot of things, even though it may not be the same meaning you put to its. Yeah, of course that's to me. That's a great lyricist, where as your meaning. But we all can put our own meaning to it, dude. Yeah, And I think I've been saying this in interviews for eight years now, but like holding absence. Is for the heart, it's not for the head.
38 There's a lot going on in the world where you have to think or worry or fear for things. But the moment you step into one of our shows, like, I don't want you to think about anything. I just want you to feel things. And I think there's a huge, huge difference between this terrifying world that we live in now, where everybody's overstimulated, everybody needs to be on their phone story for seven politics are going crazy, wars are going crazy. Like, I just want to make sure that when we're in a room, you could close the doors and all you need to think about is what you're feeling. Right, Yeah, no doubt, And I'm living out right now because I just had something happen recently, and people are like, how can you go a festival? I'm like, because that's where I can escape.
20 Of course, how could I not go to a festival exactly? This is where, like doing the interviews, I'm not thinking about when I'm out there, I'm not thinking about it, and this is the escape from all the bull crap that happens in life. And that's why I say it's best therapy for you and the best therapy for me. Yeah. How do people reach out to you on the web? Socials buy your merch all that good stuff. Yeah, we've got a website holding absence dot com. Yeah, socials. We use Instagram a lot, Twitter, whatever, Facebook, whatever you use, We're there. So like, yeah, keep in touch and generally we play everywhere that has shows at least once a year, so I'm sure we'll see you soon. So, and is there anything you want to share with the listeners that we haven't covered yet that they need to know that's coming up or anything.
06 No, man, we're pretty much in between albums now, and more than anything, we're just trying to, like I said, play shows, reach out to as many people as possible. So if you do see where nearby, may be come to a show, and if not, we'll hopefully come nearby against soon. So yeah, nice, well, thanks for being here at Largan Life and thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thanks for having cheers, Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man. I'm W for CUI Radio.
