On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to the members of the band Hammerhedd: Henry, Abe, and Eli, at the Welcome to Rockville festival. The band expresses their excitement about being at the festival, their first experience performing at such a massive event. They talk about the iconic Daytona Speedway venue and how it exceeded their expectations in terms of size and incline. They also mention the importance of driving at a certain speed to avoid flipping over on the track.
The conversation then shifts to the band's origins and their journey as brothers playing music together. They discuss how being siblings has created a unique dynamic that allows them to be themselves and create art freely. They attribute their musical synergy to the fact that many bands they admire also consist of siblings. The band members talk about their instrument choices and how they naturally gravitated towards their respective roles in the band.
Pipeman explores the band's accomplishments, including having their covers of Metallica songs shared by Metallica themselves. The band members express their gratitude for this recognition and discuss their new album, "Nonetheless," which they describe as more complex and rhythmically driven. They mention that they wrote the album during the COVID-19 pandemic and reveal their plans for releasing another album sooner, promising more frequent releases in the future.
The conversation also touches on Hammerhead's recent touring experiences, including opening for In Flames and their upcoming tour with Havok, Toxic Holocaust, and I Am Nice. They share how these opportunities have helped them grow as a band and prepare for larger shows and festivals. Pipeman emphasizes the significance of being part of festivals like Welcome to Rockville, where many successful bands started and paved their way to greater opportunities.

The Adventures of...
0:00 Hey, you love them too, that's sure. I'm come, I'm four s why for you? Wake up America. It's time for the adventures of pipe Man on W four C why dot com. West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. That's the pipe Man here on the enter, Spike Man W four CY Radio and I'm here with Henry abe Eli Hammerhead here at Welcome to Rockville. How's it feel to be here? Good? First, first one of these ever never done a festival like this or anything this big at all? You know what's wild about that? It's a lot of bands here. It's the first time ever performing in the Daytona Speedway, so that's pretty iconic too. Yeah for us for sure. Yeah. We just is awesome to drive in on the track
1:30 right, and it's a lot bigger than it looks like on TV. Rights. Oh yeah, it's pretty wild, massive massive. And then do you see how high it inclines? Yeah? Yeah, I was driving around like, yeah, I would flip over up there. Yeah yeah, baby, going way up there. They did say you have to drive like at least fifty five miles per hour or else no matter what you're driving they'll flip. Wow. Yeah, to stay up on that wall there, you have to be at least fifty five. So that is awesome. Yeah, So tell us a little bit about you guys. Man. I love your story. Like you started at such a young age and here you are at Rockville, so talk to us about that. Yeah, still still feel young. But we started when we were like in twenty twelve, when I was twelve, Eli was like ten and you were seven. Eight was seven. I just kind of started jamming and then this is what became a bit basically still working.
2:28 Yeah, we did like school talent shows and then played on the street for a little bit and then open for local acts and now here we are. Yeah, and a lot's happened in between two that I want to talk about. So, like, first of all, as brothers, how does it feel to play together as brothers? Because I know my kids. I couldn't see them in a band together. They'd kill each other. Oh we kind of do. Yeah, it always works. It works out better because we're brothers because we can say whatever and it's all right. You know, there you go. You know each other, and so you could just be yourself and you can create art the way you want to create it. Yeah, I think you can say no and it's fine. There you go. I love that idea and it's fine. Yeah. Yeah. And I think it's kind of like you have the synergy that you wouldn't have with somebody outside your family. That's just automatic. It's like not a coincidence that a lot of the a lot of the bands we love are there's at least a couple of brothers in the band or something like that. There's there's something about it.
3:23 There you go. And so how did you decide who was gonna play what instrument? I naturally gravitated to drums. I think I've been this is eli. Yeah, sorry passing the microphone, but I naturally gravitated to drums, and then my uncle played them, so I got to use a real one and I just kept playing. And then Henry obvious choice was the guitar right away. Yep, my dad plays guitar. And we were like, abe, you get one choice, You're you're bass Sorry, yep, exactly. Well, you see that's I'm the youngest sibling, or I was until like, I don't know, I have a sister that's like thirty years younger than me, so tell her I was the youngest. That sounds about what would happen. It's like, okay, you're doing this, you don't have a choice. Yeah, So what was it like? You know, you're doing these covers of Metallica songs and then all of a sudden they share your stuff. That's a crazy night. You know, that was like surreal.
4:30 Our parents were like a little worried and it. I mean obviously a lot of eyes you know, but yeah, a while ago. So yeah, I mean that's insane that yeah, like that at first of all, at such a young age, but that like they don't share everything. That's very rare. So that that's a kudos to your musicianship because you know, they're pretty particular about sounds, so you have to be good for them to share. Oh yeah, we're absolute grateful for that. It was amazing. So you have a new album, let's talk about that. Yeah, tell us a little bit about the new album, and and you know how how your music maybe has progressed since you first started. Our new album, it's called Nonetheless, came out in February. I would say it's our music has kind of gone a little bit more of a complex, sort of rhythmic style to it. It's very heavy, you know, very fast. But yeah, we wrote that album like a year ago, more two years ago, so during COVID you wrote it. Yeah, so we've just been kind of hearing that, hearing that album over and over and over again. So but yeah, I think the next one we very different as well, just because that was so old. You know that that one we wrote so long ago.
5:50 The name of the game is it'll be quicker. He let him tell us and Henry Henry here says more albums more often. So it won't be another two years. It's gonna be another another few months. How about that? Oh love that. That's a promise. I love it. And now we're gonna hold and now we're gonna hold you to it. Yeah, everybody, the whole Welcome to Rockville. There you go. And then so you were touring with m Flames. That's pretty cool that happened, because that's pretty cool. That was a connection of our booking agent to their booking agent. But it was very lucky. They needed a last second opener for about ten shows in the fall, and we jumped on and then yeah, that was that was super super fun. It was also really good for us because we've never done more than before that, we had never done more than six shows in a row or any sort of run really, and that was a good foot in the door thing to you know, get us used to being on the road and get us used to getting stuff down every night to where you know, we're just getting better at it and there's still a lot of room to grow. But that's like kind of this this kind of stuff right here, it's a good foot in the door for like outdoor stuff, a big festival.
7:06 Yeah. So and then this summer we're doing a bigger tour, longer tour, so hopefully we're better prepared for it. So how did the Welcome to Rockville? How did it begin? How did it happen? Same thing? Just our management's awesome, you know, connection from management. So shout out for your management because they're getting in the big big shout out there you go. I mean, because I'm in city Diamond city management. Shout out there, you go. I just shouted you out without saying your name. Oh man, Yeah, because listen, there's bands playing at this festival. They're big right now that played this festival just like you for the first time, and it's kind of like how it works. That's the cool thing about the Dandy Wimmer festivals is if you get noticed by Danny Wimmer and you're on one of his festivals, you have a lot of opportunities for other festivals and then kind of just cultivates. You know. Yes, there's so many bands that play this festival, but they started off just like you. So here you go. It does seem like a good good it's we're super super lucky to be playing it and we can't wait to hit the stage like two hours basically, Yeah, and what can we expect out there for those who have never seen you live? Because I'm sure live is your best part because you know, we hope when when you're first starting that's what it's all about, is the lives. So tell us a little bit about what we can expect from a live show from you guys. Well, for this one, it's short thirty minutes, but we agree, we hope that the live shows ten times better than the album. It's really aggressive, loud and fast. Yep.
8:39 Do you have any crazy stories from live shows that you've done that you're like a remember forever good or bad? I think last Yeah, we we we will come back in two years. See now you got to create that story today. Maybe welcome to rock people trying to think nothing crazy. We've had a lot of bad shows, well a lot of good ones too. Hope. You guys are probably your own worst critics. That's true because while you thought it was a bad show, whoever was in the crowd was like, oh my god, this is the best show ever. Yeah. Yeah, that's kind of how it works. What does dad think? Oh, yeah, we wit this one. We wit this one. It's called porch Fest in Kansas City when we're I've heard of that. Yeah, we play it basically just like it's where you play on a bunch of This whole block hosts a bunch of bands. And we were like young, so that was a place we could play. It wasn't a club, And so we got on that bill and we're playing somebody's porch like to a front yard full of people basically, and it got rained out, like lightning and storming and stuff and it would not stop. So we got moved to a different houses, screened in porch and played for like fifteen feet. It's actually super fun though, Wait, like people, that sounds so like for me. Your dad would probably agree, that's like so cool old school. Yes, it's you know, couple of things to happen like that. Yeah, you know because that Sally used to be like bands would just like play somewhere. There's another band that played here Welcome to Rockville that I interviewed the other day that that's
10:11 how they got into the festivals at Danny Wimmer festivals, is they They literally crashed the parking lot of a Danny Wimmer festival. They just showed up, played and Danny Wimmer saw him and then invite them it was that incarceration last year, invite them to play there, invited them to play it later in life, and they played here at Welcome to Rockville. That is awesome. So see that could happen from those porch fests stuff like that. You never know who's listening or watching it, and then it's like all of a sudden, wow, that is true. So what do you guy going on after Welcome to Rockville? Besides new music that you promised? We promised a new album between now and the tour. What do you think now we were going home for a month and we're gonna write a bunch of new stuff. And then we're going back out on the road the Havoc Toxic Holocaust and I Am Nice starting in Denver and that starts first week at July, and then we'll be out for about thirty days and after that the album will come out.
11:16 There. Ever happens, will happen, all right. See, like now you're gonna be live on the air, you're gonna be on a podcast. It's gonna be permanent, like to where you have to do this. It's good. I'm this is why I'm saying it. Yeah there, Yeah, you just made it commitment. They don't say it won't happen. There, you go what I'm saying. So, how people connect to you guys on socials, on the web, buy your merch all that great stuff, I'd say, Yeah, the Instagram, YouTube website, Hammerhead dot com, Hammerhead Casey on Instagram, Hammerhead on YouTube. You know, and make sure it's the double D yes, you know why? You know why because without the double ded or something like band from I think the Nine These or something.
12:00 Yeah, there is, there is, or you get a bunch of shark pictures. That was just because yeah, that's because it sounded cool. It looked cool. Yeah, I you know what I like. I like it better if it was just you know, spelled regular These days, I'm like, oh, that's not very original. Exactly. There you go, So you're totally metal now. Yeah, And I do want to comment on your new album and what you were talking about, because I love the ebb and flow of the songs where it kind of goes into different you know, it's ways that it's catching you. It's not it's not just one straight out song like you go on this journey. Yeah, and that's what's very cool about it. Yeah, we really we worked for a long time on that with this album, just sort of the like for these songs, they were longer and they needed to you know, they need to be peaks and valleys.
12:54 Yeah, and that's kind of what it felt like that. It's kind of cool, especially in time like we're living in right now, songs like your new songs are like an escape. That's what that journey represents. It's like you can just escape everything that's going on in the world and just immerse yourself into music. I really appreciate that. Thank you so doing a lot more of it, Yeah, especially when you keep that commitment that we made I'm gonna keep I'm gonna keep hammering. Now you're no pun intended, but yes, so pun intended for sure. I'm gonna hammer it right into your head. We will, We're gonna have, We're gonna we can't wait. We're mostly working on that. We're doing. We have a bunch of new songs right now. We're just figuring out the best way to release them. Cool.
13:35 Yeah, it'll be soon, real soon. Love it, love that you're here at Welcome to Rockville. You are gonna kill it up there on the stage. You're gonna be shocked like people are gonna love you out there, and even early in the day, like Rockville is the type of festival that doesn't matter if it's early in the day, there's gonna be tons of people there. Yes, let's make sure, let's go. You make sure you get that pick going, this, get that pick going, make sure so hey, when I stop it nonetheless and do the riff, can you do like some stir the pot thing. Come on, buddy, come on, buddy, do it, do it? Do it? I play the riff. Wait, I can stop. I can just not play the riff for a second. Go hey, guys, I'm not gonna make it all it'll be sick. There it is, it'll be sick. But hey, guys, we have one more commitment. No, all right, yeah, love it. So if you had one band that you would tour with, it is impossible. There you go. One band are we tour with?
14:48 You can go around the three? Yeah, it could be well, one for each one of you. Yeah, Abe can talk for the first time. One band we can tour with right now? Can give it a lizard wizard tool all right, dangerous putting pink Floyd if they were still band that counts, that counts, could be Roger Waters. There's three of them. There's three of them. Figure them. I mean I would love that. But say, okay, David Brothers, dude, probably tool there it is.
15:37 Okay, so that's the band you have to tour with next two. You've been out to see him. Tomorrow we're gonna be out of here. But oh that's a bummer. But now it's gonna happen. We're gonna make sure we're gonna put this out in the world. So Maynard can hear that and bring you on tour? Yes, yes, so there it is. Well, thanks guys for being a welcome to rock Film. Thanks for being on the Adventures of piate Man. Thank you so much. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pate Man. I'm w for Cui Radio
