04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm for see why you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on w fourcy dot com. West pom Beach is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the Pipe Man. Myself, I see terrible things. I see a sickness world on its knee, and see what you love like the thing.

53 But in my dreams I believe it is the pipe Man here on the Adventures the Pipe Man. W forc Why Radio at Download Festival and I'm here with Josh Smith from a band called Hailstorm. Yeah, just a little band called Hailstorm, right, So it's funny. I was so busy doing press at Welcome to Rockville, which I do every year, I totally forgot, you know how it is when you do all these festivals, you forget who plays where? Yeah, so I asked you about that, And because I heard over there that you're a big racing fan. Yeah, absolutely, And like, how wild is that to play in a raceway here and play a raceway in Florida. It's a trip and it's something that you need to experience in person, not even like a race, because to be honest that I haven't been too many races. But to be at a track, yeah, because you can't quite capture it or see it on a TV screen. The size of it and the actual elevation changes and the degree of the embankment, like yeah, there is. You have to see it and be on it to realize it. This is like a skyscraper of pavement. It's insane. It is. It's funny because you'll love this. Why my brothers he never wants to hear about the festivals. You know. It's like, oh, I'm doing this festival and he'll change the subject. So at Daytona, I called him up. I'm like, or I text him. I'm like, I'm driving on the Daytona Speedway right now. He's like, send picks in two

23 seconds. He's like, send picks. What I know? Right? And but that embankment is insane. It's like straight up. They were telling me that you have to at least go fifty five miles per hour or you will flip. And I have a jeep, so I wasn't even tempting that, like I'd flip over. But I did have my skateboard with me. I was like, I asked in the people running the press area I'm like, well, I get in trouble if I take my skateboard and go up on the embankment your funeral buddy, I know, right, I promise I'll do it after all the interviews are done. So does it feel to be at the twenty the anniversary of Download? It's wild. It's this festival has been a part of our life since before we started playing here, Like the the the lure of this festival is legend, and it's it's the one we we look forward to. It's the one we really prepare for what would work here, you know, at Download. And so to be playing it for I don't know, I don't know how many times we played it for maybe nice is like truly an honor. And it's it's, you know, the kind of show where I've been in this band for twenty years now most of the time I'm like, yeah, let's go play show and right, and this one, I'm waking up at like seven am with workmyre's where's the stage?

53 And you know, just like you just it's it's the excitement, is is It's why we do this. I feel the same way, like people don't realize you know this, I have all I do, like, I don't know, twenty festivals a year. This is the one I love, you know, like just everything the way it's handled, everything about it. It's just so cool And what an honor to be on the lineup for the twentieth anniversary because you know, they had to like handpick who are we gonna have for the twentieth anniversary, and of course they're gonna have hail Storm. I were just so incredibly honored to be to be here, To be like on the same stage as Ultra Bridge and Metallica is like just it's nuts. So like, I no place I'd rather be there. You go me too.

45 So one story, good or bad? When you're like eighty that you're going to talk about in this whole musical journey, What do you think it would be? One story? That's always a tough question. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it'd be like when I have Alzheimer's and it's the one thing I remember, right, Gosh, what would it be? Jeez? You know what would be? It's it's not a it's not bad. It's funny and if but the last time we played here, obviously I've download on my mind. It's a couple things right here, was here was like my playouts and I so we headlined the second stage and Stone Temple Pilots played before us, which like, I, I'm freaking out that we have to follow that, you know, and then I forget what the first song was. But we were all going to go out and hit one big old note together, you know, right, just how you start a rock show. And I didn't turn on my guitar pack. Wow, so I missed the first note of downloading I think twenty nineteen. Wow, you know, but I just I've you know, you lap it off and you keep going. And it was an incredible, incredible show, incredible sunset. It was terrible weather all day, and then we got this beautiful sunset, so love it. Yeah, that's that's one that I don't think I'll ever forget. And you know what I love about that story is that's what I love about live music. It's

17 not perfect never you know, shouldn't be. No, most of the time, the crowd doesn't even know. Yeah, you're your own worst credit. You know. The crowd's just cheering and you're like, but I didn't even turn my shit on. Yeah, you know, it's funny, is said, I don't know if I should. I don't know if I should tell this secret. Well, you definitely should. I mean, it's not that anytime if you're if you're ever watching us and you see Joe or I or typically both of us look back behind us like we're like, what the heck was is that that one of us made a mistake, And so we're like looking behind us, like who did that? You know, that's our that's our little tale of like whoops. And and we do that often that that happens multiple times. That's the beauty of it. That's the beauty of live.

04 I say, you've got to laugh at and keep going otherwise, you know, listen, we're all humans. We're all humans. We're not perfect, you know, and and shit happens. Yeah, hell yeah, so it should as it should. So you guys are currently on tour here in Europe and the UK, and how's that going. Oh, it's fantastic. We played two festivals in Germany and it was kind of the the first time for us to roll out this this new set. We we've kind of altered this set, tried to create new moments and it was a bit nerve wracking. So it's nice to get that out of the way that and know that all the work we had done in the past few months is paid off and it's a lot of travel, but it's just it's so fun to be over here in the UK and Europe and in the summer, you know months, and so we're just we're we're we just love it. It's something we truly look forward to, you know, as as it gets announced. And how you feel with the new set that people are reacting to your new music, because you know how people are they buying to hear everything old, yeah, and you know it's good when they like your new music, right, you know. So for like our for this we've got what forty five fifty minutes, we're gonna hit hard with the things that everyone knows. When we come back in December at Wembley, it's it's our night and it's going to be like it's gonna be a really fun rock show where we get to play, you know, yeah, the things that the songs that that that long time

35 fans you know, wish we'd play and it's fun to give that to them. And and here requests for obscure songs and often we're like, I don't know if we can do that, but every now and then we get them in there and yeah, yeah, it's fun. Man. It's about making moments and and you know us making them for the fans, and obviously them being here is just very special moment for us. There it is so Wembley. That's another iconic venue. I mean, come on, these are like kind of the two cornerstones of our year, you know, like Download and Wembley. So we're about to finish this one off and hopefully it goes off well, then we can start planning for that Wembley show. It'll back to the basement and start you know, shedding some material and figuring out what we can do to pull out all the stops. You know, absolutely, And so tell everybody how they they probably know, but tell them how they can reach out to you guys on socials, on the web and most importantly by your merch because that's important today. Yeah, you know, come out to a show. I think that's the best way to experience it and to get merch. But obviously it's available online at hilstorm Rocks dot com. And you know, I'm terrible at social media, but they can't not find you.

58 But yeah, I'm I'm I'm present, and the whole band is. Lizzie is very interactive with our fans. She's on Twitter all the time. She does. He's ask me anything, you know, sort of you know, segments on Twitter, and we're around, come say hi if you see us, we're we're not scared and we won't bite. And they definitely have to catch your live show if they haven't, because I know, the first time I caught you guys live, I mean I liked you guys listen to the studio and then live, I was like, holy shit, Like and Lizzie's voice live compared to studio, it's way better. And you normally that's not the case. It's normally the other way around for artists. So I mean, first time smoking mirrors, it's just poor people up on stage. She's just playing. We don't use any tracks or anything, and then against people who do, but just not your thing. To us, it's something to hang our hats on. And that I'm just she's I'm just lucky to be with, like in I'm biased, but like one of the greatest singers of our time, and she brings its great. It's just her, so it you know, yeah, you all bring it and you're gonna bring it here at download. I love it. Thanks for being here and thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you, thanks for having me my pleasure. This is Josh Smith from the band Hailstorm and you are listening to the Pipe Man on W four c Y radios. Thank you for listening to
