GLENN HUGHES TO PERFORM CLASSIC HITS FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF
DEEP PURPLE’S LEGENDARY “BURN” ALBUM
CO-HEADLINE U.S. TOUR WITH YNGWIE MALMSTEEN ANNOUNCED
Glenn Hughes, the former bassist, and singer of Deep Purple, known to millions as the ‘Voice of Rock’, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and the front man for rock super group Black Country Communion, is pleased to announce an evening celebrating music from BURN and other classic hits from Deep Purple’s rich back catalog – during a tour that will mostly see him co-headlining with guitar great Yngwie Malmsteen.
Billed as “Glenn Hughes Performs The 50th Anniversary of Deep Purple’s BURN Live”, Hughes will perform classic hits from the legendary album, and the addition of Deep Purple MKIII and MKIV songs.
Glenn’s band will feature Soren Andersen (guitar), Ash Sheehan (drums) and Ed Roth (keyboards).
'It was 50 years ago, in the summer of 1973, that the BURN album by Deep Purple was written at Clearwell castle in Gloucestershire UK,” reminisces Hughes. “It was recorded in October in Montreux, Switzerland.”
Continues Hughes, “We all became one in this centuries old castle in the UK countryside, it felt like Deep were a new band, with David (Coverdale) and I as new members, we couldn’t wait to start working on new song. The atmosphere was electric, in such amazing surroundings.”
“All the songs on Burn were written in the crypt/dungeon, underneath the great hall. We worked on a new song every day, and we were in the flow. Musically we would play, and work out ideas, and David and I would come up with vocal melodies that would later have lyrics. I remember it like it was yesterday.”
“As you could imagine, Ritchie Blackmore was in full prankster mode, Jon had warned me, and he rigged my room one night with a speaker that was hidden, and had ghostly voices delivered to my bedside.”
“The title track was the last song to be written. We came back from the pub, and went down into the crypt, and magic happened.”
Concludes Hughes, “It’s time to celebrate BURN, and I’m really looking forward to seeing you!”

DEEP PURPLE – THE STORY BEHIND “BURN”
Burn is the eighth studio album by the English rock band Deep Purple, written and recorded in 1973, and released in February 1974, the album was the first to feature then-unknown David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes, from Trapeze, on bass and vocals.
The album was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland, in November 1973, with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. With the addition of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, Purple's hard rock sound became more boogie-oriented, incorporating elements of soul and funk, which would become much more prominent on the follow-up album, Stormbringer.
Burn hit #3 on the UK Albums Chart, #9 on the US Billboard 200, and #1 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Norway.
In 2004 Burn was remastered and released with bonus tracks. Coronarias Redig was recorded during the Burn recording sessions, used only as a B-side for the Might Just Take Your Life single in 1974. It appears as a bonus track (in remixed form) on the anniversary edition re-release. The 2004 remix version of Burn was later used in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.
In 2005 an unauthorized documentary about the album was produced as part of "The Ultimate Critical Review" series. It featured brand new interview with the original Deep Purple Mk III bassist and vocalist Glenn Hughes.
Lead single Might Just Take Your Life, released 4 March, was Deep Purple's first UK single in two years.
The phenomenal title track started things off at full throttle, actually challenging the seminal Highway Star for the honor of best opener to any Deep Purple album, while showcasing the always impressive drumming of Ian Paice. The fantastic slow-boiling blues of Mistreated's greatness qualifies it for the highest echelons of hard rock achievement, and therefore ranks as an essential item in the discography of any self-respecting music fan.
GLENN HUGHES – BIOGRAPHY
Glenn Hughes is an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the MK 3 line up of Deep Purple. He spent the formative years of his career as the beloved bassist and vocalist of the group and performed on the classic albums Burn (1974), Stormbringer (1974) and Come Taste The Band (1975).
The vocalist/bass guitarist/songwriter is a true original. No other rock musician has carved such a distinctive style blending the finest elements of hard rock, soul and funk. Stevie Wonder once called Hughes his favorite white singer. The first important band Hughes was a member of that achieved notable success was Trapeze.
In 1973, Hughes joined Deep Purple. The trailblazing hard-rock legends had just weathered the departure of vocalist Ian Gillan and bass guitarist Roger Glover, but guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice continued with the addition of Hughes and David Coverdale.
Since 1992, Hughes has toured extensively in Europe, Japan, and South America in support of solo albums. He’s recorded four studio albums with the multi-award-winning supergroup Black Country Communion featuring guitarist Joe Bonamassa, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin legend John Bonham.
In 2016 he released his critically acclaimed solo album Resonate featuring the rock radio hit “Heavy”, and in 2017 he released Black Country Communion’s fourth studio album “BCCIV” to ecstatic reviews.
In 2019, Glenn joined the Dead Daises as their lead singer and bass guitarist, recorded two albums, Holy Ground (2021) and Radiance (2022) and toured the world.

0:04 Hey, you listening to such? Sure, I'm come for ce Why for Wake Up of America. It's time for the Adventures. So pipe Man on w four cy dot com West pom Beats, his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the Pipe Man. This is the Pipe Man here on the Adventures the Pipe Man, w f C Y Radio. And I'm here with our next guest, who is an absolute legend. And oh my god, there's some exciting stuff to talk about. And not only that, but I'm also going to wish them a happy birthday because it's it's birthday today.
1:07 How about that? See and so welcome to his show, Glenn Hughes. How are you? Thank you? Another another trip around the sun. So I'm very grateful for that, of course, I know right, you know it, those trips around the sun. They keep getting faster and faster, don't they. And you know something, Dean, they do when you get older, They just keep fly right on by. But I'm look, I'm enjoying the moment, enjoying the beautiful day here in Manhattan in New York. Nice. I love it. And so I think one of the best celebrations of your birthday is this fiftieth anniversary, which kind of blows my mind because thank you. I remember being a kid and I think I stole my brother's album to listen to this album when I was a kid and man.
1:59 To have a fiftieth anniversary of burn, just it must blow your mind too, I'm sure, like how quick that fifty went? You know, Dean, you know when I was very young. You're talking about somebody of my age right now you just think it's so old or you but we all we're all in this together. You know, we're all gonna get old at some point. I don't think about that so much. I'm just look, Dean, as you know, I've lost We've lost a lot of famous or not friends or whatever reasons, and I am one. There's two members of these people no longer with us. I'm one of the lucky ones that got my life together all those years ago and change my lifestyle, if you will, and making album up to album and doing this legacy show I'm doing. How grateful am I today? It's more than more than one was? Can oh?
3:00 I'm telling you absolutely, And I look at people like you, they've been around so long. I think the reason you are alive is because of the music. You know. I look at others in your group and that are still here. I'm like, the only reason they're here is the music. I have a very active mind, if you will, or brain or whatever you want to call it. I'm just very active in what I do. And and I am a musician. I've been writing songs for so long. I'm a songwriter first of all. But people know about my voice of course, which I'm very grateful for. But I will slow down. When I slow down, I've got I mean, I've just finished Black Country album number five last week. Wow, I'm doing this legacy tour for the next eighteen months. I have a full plate, Dean, So I am on course. To music is the healing, absolutely and I love it. I always say when people say stuff to me, I'm like, I'll sleep when I die. I'll have playing a time then. Yeah, you know.
4:10 For me, I like to keep busy. I'm a very active person. I love being at home, don't don't forget. I love being back home in LA. But this summer is a really busy for me. Well, and you're lucky you're nine La right now. With the hurricane right, Oh my god, my poor animals at home without daddy. Oh no, yeah, I live in Florida, so I know where it's like dealing with hurricanes for sure. Yeah, it's really bad out there. Right now. I'm checking in with my housekeeper and it's okay today, so hopefully we're all good. Well, glad to hear that, because I lived out there too and spend enough. You have to deal with every other national disaster and natural disaster and now this, you know, but very strange. It's very strange.
5:01 But you know global warming hello that yeah, right, exactly a perfect thing right there. And so this tour you're going to go on with Engvy, I mean, this is this is pretty amazing. Tell us how it all came about that You've decided with all the things you're doing, you got so much on your plate that this was something that you know, went to the forefront for you. I got a new American touring agent about nine months ago and my manager was talking to him, and I've known Engvay since nineteen eighty three. What good friends and England played Mistreated my song with me in London twelve years ago and we spoke about doing something like this together all those years ago, and here we are now. His agent is my agent, so it made sense to come together. So that's why I'm doing it with him with co headline as you know. So it's going well and it's going fantastic.
6:10 We can't wait to come down to see you with Bloda. Yeah you'll be here. You know what's funny about that, You'll be here in Fort Laurdale during hurricane season. Oh well, wish me luck, I know, right, So yeah, you guys will be here on September twenty second at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Laerdale. But yeah, you're gonna be a lot of other cool places too, you know. And I think it's just amazing. What does it feel like, okay to play that album after fifty years? Well, I do it, I think I do. I do it justice. These songs are very important to me. I created these songs with the purple and the look. Look, they're iconic songs. There's an iconic album, so I pay a lot of respect to those songs. And I have great, great team of players with me, so I'm really honing in on the arrangements. The sound of the song is going to be appropriate with the right instrumentation, and there are iconic songs to play live, Dean.
7:23 So I'm really excited by that. Oh, I'm really excited too. And I'm really excited about your new album because I know there's been kind of a delay because of everything that's crazy that's been going on in the world, and we're going to finally see your new album. Huh. Well, there's a black country album just finished last week with job on him after Jason Bonham and Derek Schuni in this album number five. The album should be coming out first quarter of next year. Everyone, Dean next year, early next year, and we're excited for people to hear Black Country five. I love it. So I always ask artists like you, after doing it for so long, how do you still keep coming out with great material that you can write about it? You know, I think of it and it's gonna be like it's sometimes you may run out of things to say, but sometimes there's even more things to say. We know when. For me, and this is a very very good question because for me, writing new music has been integral for me as the growth of me as a human being. To be a writer.
8:39 Look, I love to sing and play, you know that, but to song to write songs every year I've been doing it for so long that I've never lost the appetite or energy or ability to sit and write all those songs. And I have been doing that for so long. So as long as I'm continuing songwriting, and I do it pretty much every day. I've got a studio at home. As long as I'm songwriting, I think everything is just going to be fine. I love it because it is like some of the best therapy, isn't it Like for us as the listener, it's great therapy, but for an artist to write those songs, it's like it's the best therapy there is. It is. I only write about the human condition. I don't write about fiction. I write about us as people.
9:28 You know. I try to help people heal as good as I can and carry the message if you will, that we're all here for a look, every one of us listening here right now, we all have a lights purpose. If you haven't found out what it is, I wish you the best because we're all here for a reason. We've all got our own message too to pass on. So hopefully all of us are doing that. Those are definitely great words, and that that's why you're still such a great artist because of thoughts like that, and you know, just helping people throughout the world. I mean, that's that's what it comes down to, and yourself.
10:09 At the same time, we're all the same being. We're all flesh and blood, we're all carrying. Look, we're all we're all connected on our planet, every single human and animal, we're connected. We're all souls. We're not physical beings, we're spiritual beings living a human experience, you know. So for me, it's always about souls and and the and the in a being of spirituality. Nice, And I think what better birthday present than to be playing Times Square tomorrow night. Yeah, come on now, so excited, we're so excited about that. But tomorrow show, yes, of course. Yeah, of all places, that's that's the iconic place to play for sure. And so we are, we're all we're all ready to rock in Time Square tomorrow right at August twenty second at the Ladium. Nice.
11:05 So, what's the craziest story ever in your whole musical career that you can remember? Well, there's been quite a few, really, But you know, for me, crazy being crazy or crazy weird crazy or you know, I think it's whatever we mean it to be like to me, it's just a memory, like something that stands out good or bad more than anything else. Well, I was just okay, it's a crazy one for you. So it's nineteen seventy four. I am in somewhere in the Midwest, and I'm partying in my room with a few guys and there's I can hear a guy next door yelling stop, shut up, you know, and I didn't.
11:56 We didn't shut up. So about half an hour later, I get an knock on the door. Now I don't know if you know how old you are doing, but the guy knocking on my door was an act of call. You'll Brenner. Oh yeah, your brunner, was it? Your Brunner was a famous actually was in the Ten Commandments. And remember this is the seventies, so you know he wasn't that old. I got this guy, you know, this fairer on in the movie Ten Commandments, banging on my door telling me to show up. And I opened the door and all I can see was him in the movie The Jeebers out of Me. He was really angry at me, and he should have been, because I was quite loud. But kind of a spooky story for you. That is so wild. That's that is a great story. I'm glad I asked because that is pretty cool. Also another one, John John Wayne. I met him in the lobby of the of the Beverly Wilsher in LA and he asked me if my autograph for his daughter. So I signed my autograph on the heel of his boot. Wow, that's you know, are you like sitting there away He's asking you for your autograph on what's going on here? Well, and trust me, trust me. I went to him for his autograph right, and then he then he found out who I was, you know, in this band. So he was very nice and big, tall fellow,
13:28 but he was a very Look there's something I'll take with me for the rest of my life. So I've met some incredible people in America, so and long may that continue. I'm very very grateful to be here. Well, we're grateful to have you here. We're grateful for you to be on tour doing this fiftieth anniversary of Burn and your new music and all that stuff.
