04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm com for see why you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures. So Pinte Man on W for cy dot com West pom Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the phite Man. This day lost the refer best don't sign in a stormy weather? Are you kill the sky boors? Train in the monoclass? Are you ready? You'll jy one little head. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures. Pyt Man W forc Y Radio at Rifest and I'm here with Rory and Rob froment to Shikari. Yes, what's up?
06 Have you ever played Riot first before? I don't think so. I think this is our first time here, but hopefully not the last, because so far what we've seen of it is it's fucking awesome. It's a pretty coolat it's pretty cool festival right like they do it right here, you know, it's like they have it all pre organized and set up. But that's not always the case in America. Like no, when I did recently, Yeah, yeah, yeah, We've had a lot of experience with American festivals, and so far this is my favorite. Yeah. I think from coming to America for the last twenty years, this one's been my favorite festival. I mean we haven't even played yet, that has only just begun. That tells you something right there, because like I also do the UK and the European festivals, and I go over there, I'm like, wow, this is different and that's a good way, you know what I mean. But they do it right. We're so happy to have you here. So tell us a little bit about your music. For the people that don't know you guys, how you describe it as artists, you know, opposed to some genre bullshit label that you get boxed into. Well, we've always sort of been known as the band that doesn't really have a genre. I love that.
22 So yeah, we literally our musical spectrum spans from like, you know, you know, heavy electronic stuff to like orchestral like classical pieces to like you a, heavy guitars to everything, so whatever the place. Like to an older generation, I'd say if my grandmother asked me what my music sounded like, I would the easiest way to describe it. I know what Rory said is heavy guitar music with a lot of electronic influence. Yeah, that's pretty cool, But I like that you can't be boxed in. You know, you're just being artist creating. You know, that's the way it's in the box. Who jump out of the box. That's right exactly. And so what's the craziest story ever in your whole musical journey? That's like such a hard question or like to ever be I'll say, what's your favorite song ever? Well, that that's definitely a hard one. We once had someone lose a finger at a show. There was really playing a gig where the speaker system had like a grill in the front of it, and someone was climbing up the front of it, and they said, have launched themselves off, but left one of their fingers in the grill. That's always one I'll remember, Yeah, I bet you will. Like I knocked out my teeth from climbing up a Marshall stack and doing a stage dive, but I still
53 have my finger. Yeah, I want to got a mic stand knocked into my teeth. Oh well, when it actually knocked out a tooth that was already fake, it was kind of like, you know, it didn't do any more damage. I just had to get the damage it has already happened fixed again. It's kind of like that tooth, like just it's not good luck for you. It happened. So and then what happens after riot? First, well, we got a few more shows. We're playing Furnace Festival and than Life. I'll see you there, So we're going to be there exiting there, and then we got a string of headline shows in between, and then we go to Mexico. We're doing Mexico City and Guadalajara. Oh happy, yeah, he says September to anyone of Mexican descent, Yeah, listening out here at the minute. Were you did you arrive today, like to the grounds? Yes? Kay? Did you encounter was out there?
00 I only saw a very small bit of it, one van driving past with big flags hanging out the window. But I hear that last night got pretty wild and it gets pretty crazy, and they had a parade today. So you're lacking here early enough. I actually it took an hour longer for me to get here because all the roads were closed, so the GPS kept saying, go this way, nope, can't go that way, nope. We had to like go around the whole city to come back. Because it is last year I experienced it too right. I appreciated seen it. That would have been. Was it a proper parade? Like yeah, yeah, well it's not like you would have like a parade on New Year's It's more like everybody's out there with their own vehicles. There's floats too, and they have the Mexican flags on it, and they're honking the horns and they got the low riders. They're going up and down and it's pretty it's pretty wild.
59 Like last year, I made the mistake of driving some other media people to their hotel and it was right where the parade was, like we couldn't get through. We were just it's like the whole place is overtaking. You needed a low rider with a big suspension onto so they thought you were part of the right exact Yeah, through it exactly. So yeah, that's something the fun that we have here, you know. And so people through all all the years of asked you all questions that you probably answered a million times. Is there a question that nobody's ever asked you that you wish they did ask you. That's a tough one, too, right. How are you feeling today, Rory? Like, seriously, how are you actually feeling? You know, you know what. That is great because like what my friends, He's like, you know, all the year's touring. He's like, I wish they would just ask me what skin conditioner I use on tour, you know. And but that's right because it's like everybody's like, oh, hey and by by, but nobody just said hey, Rory, how you doing?
09 So I'll ask how are you? Now? I know it doesn't work. It doesn't work that way for sure. And so I have all the festivals you've ever done. Okay, what do you find the comparisons between different festivals of not necessarily ain't good bad? Or just like, what do you find that certain things stick out in certain places and different parts of the world. Maybe the catering area. That is quite often where one festival fest festival will either suffer or really stick out as a good festival for me is how good their casing is. And today tea thumbs up. It's really really good.
57 That's good to hear because that's not always the gays. I've been in some of the caterie Sometimes I'm like, really, this is what they're given the artists. Yeah, you know, but I think that louder you'll be happy too, because Danny Wimmer always takes care of all the artists and everything, so hopefully it let's hope. So let's hope I didn't say that and I'm wrong, and you're like, when your head be it, I'm gonna come find you if he see, Like, what were you talking about? It's a bunch of shit, man, So tell everybody how they can connect to you guys on socials, on the web, and most importantly by your merch. Yeah yeah, well I suppose if you wanted to see sitt of where we're playing and see what mage you, go out our website. It's the best one for it. So went to sicary dot com. And then we're on all the the tiktoks and your Instagrams and your twitters. Although now that's called X, isn't it? Does anyone actually call it X? Or do you is? Everyone's talking? I think that's the stupid as shit, Like now what you guys say for tweet? Though? Okay, like it made I'm gonna I'm gonna post an X. Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna X you out of my life. Because he already said he's gonna take out he wants to take out the option to block people, Like why do I have to be forced to listen to somebody I don't want to listen to.
13 Yeah, you know, like if I want to block him, I won't be able to block him. Yeah. I'm with you on that one, especially nowadays, right, you know, like because everybody's got their opinion about everything, I just want to block the whole world. Yeah, he could just turn it off. That's that's true. That's delete the app. Sometimes it's good, like I'll get Costa Rica or something. I'll just turn my phone off and disconnect the I'm like, oh my god, that feels sucked. That. The other day, say, my wife and I went from a little surfing chipped down and there's a county called Devon in England's is really gorgeous part of the world, and just turn turned all my notifications off for two days and it was bliss. I just didn't look at my phone once.
54 And then of course when I go back to real life and turned it on and ding ding ding ding ding ding ding. My phone's going mental because it is that why when we were trying to organize this tour, you just weren't communicating exactly. Yes, and it was great. I loved it. It makes sense. Oh that is good. Well, that's why I love about surfing too. Like I can't bring my phone out there, so I just sit out in the water all day. It's like, sorry, I couldn't. I couldn't have a connection, bliss. Is there a favorite surf spot in the world for you? Well, I gotta say I'm quite new to the sport. I've only done it a few times. The first time it literally just picked up the board this summer. So the first time we went, we were in Northern Ireland, which is a surprisingly good spot to surfing, and it's absolutely spectacular as well. We've got cute, gorgeous cliffs and beautiful stort, tons of dolphins swimming out and stuff. And then that last time I was in North Devon that was very nice. But now I've caught the buck. I'm gonna have to see every place that Costa Rica is on top of my list of places to go. I think I'm gonna go there. You know where in Costa Rica, because I've been all over I go there all the time. I've never been said, let me not tell me go to the Sara. It's called no Sara, like it's dirt roads.
20 It's a little surf down that is known for the surf, specially if you're new to it. Like the surf is perfect for new surfers because you can ride like ten waves in a row, like it's so cool, and and then out too. I know. Some surfers can be like quite territorial, not not there, that's the point, Like there are other places in Coasta where they are, because listen, hanging around surfers all my life, most of them are dicks. Okay, by what you said, they are very territorial. They'll like try to take you out if you like get their wave or something. Yea. Costa Rica is not like that. That's why I love it. And it's all sand be like I hate the reef and rock. Like I live in Florida. My backyard is reef and I'm more worried about the reef than the waves are the sharks, because you wipe out on that reef, it's gonna hurt. Yeah, it's gonna leave a mark for sure. Listen, what's that price? No, Sara, No, Sara, Yeah, okay, it's on the Pacific coast side. Look it up. It's a yoga and surfing mecca of like the world. That sounds like yeah, and you talk about disconnecting. Man, two hours before sunset, everybody goes to a beach just to wait for the sunset, like it's a religious experience because it is the most badass sunset anywhere in the world.
41 Amazing, amazing, Right, So they're written down, it's there you go. Any final words you want to give the listeners about you guys and what you got coming up that we haven't covered already. I mean, if you're new to us, check us out. If you've been listening to us for a while, thank you very much, keep listening and hopefully we'll be coming to players showing me you soon. There you go. I love it, And man, I'm so psyched you're here at Ride Fast And thanks for being on the Adventures of pinate Man. Thanks for having us. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pate Man. I'm W four CUI Radio.
