04 Hey, you have done to the censure? Wow crazy you why become of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four c Y dot com West Palm Beats, his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man, putting your lam on the stage to them faster and your doll skip the bread so a nail faster song. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with d J Kilmore from INKYB. Yeah call me kill though.
00 I love that. And you know what's funny about that. It's people that aren't really into you, but like you may not know what that means. If I just said, hey, you know, I'm doing an interview with Killing, I might be like, who's that. They'll be like, who's that? Well, you know, nobody knows the DJ. I'm a guy like the silhouette they see, you know, just in front of the backstage lights. You know, they're all looking at Brandon, you know, they're waiting for him to take a shirt off. Right. But I don't think there would be an incubus without you. You know, they wouldn't be an incubist without all five of us. That's right. That's that's what makes it special, is like everybody has their part and that it's like a recipe for baking a cake, right, yeah, exactly exactly. It's a crazy recipe that's been around for over twenty five years and it's still bacon. You know.
48 It's funny too, as you know. I do all these festivals too, and you know there's some bands you see so many times and you're like, they're playing okay, But then there's other bands like you guys, like every time I'm I gotta catch your set, I won't schedule any interviews because you're just badass every time. I appreciate that, and that's that's key, because a live show is important. Yeah, oh absolutely, I mean that's a bread and butter. These days, you know, we're not selling vinyl or CDs or any physical copies like we used to or or forty five's like your shirt, Oh yeah, no more for oh my god, how baby. People wouldn't know what that is. Most people don't know. The older generation knows, but the younger generation has no clue. They're like, that looks cool. The struggle was real real, Yeah, oh my god, I can't believe I was looking. I'm like, that's so funny. Yeah, you know us DJs, we're subtle, but we're real there it is, so what can we expect here at that after shock? Uh? Today this hot weather, Oh it's hot, You're gonna be shocked for sure.
53 Uh. I would just say a classic Incubus festival set. You know, we got we got a couple of little surprises, but for the most part, we're just gonna hit you with the bangers. Do you have a song that is your favorite to play, that's the most fun for you to play? Yeah, there's a whole bunch of them. You know, we're in our catalog. We're well over one hundred and thirty songs now right. I think some of the most favorite and meaningful songs are the earlier ones, kind of when I was still a greenhorn trying to figure out what I was doing in this band. So my most fun song in the play is probably the Warmth Nice. There's a lot of whales on there and some scratching and some organ playing, and it's just a cool vibe and the crowd seems to really love it, and it's one of my favorites. See what I love about Somebody like you is. It's true experimentation. To me, that's what music creativity is, is like experimenting with sounds and different things and how it can fit in to a song. Yeah, and I think that's like that's a skill for sure, It definitely is. You know. When I first got in this band, the guys just looked at me with like open jaws, being like, what's he What are you doing? What are you doing?
03 I'm like, oh, just trust me, one of these things is gonna work. Like, Okay, if it's not frogs, these whales will work. If it's not if it's not a bird, you know, this snake kissing will work. Well. I was. I was playing for them all kinds of weird sounds when I when I got with these guys way back in the day, and I was playing things from like me recording bus screeching at a at a sidewalk bench, you know, waiting for the bus which actually made the record that's cool, to whales and things like that, and they were just kind of like, what are you doing? I'm like, these this is almost like a way of sampling, you know. And that's the world I came from. I came from DJing and sampling and things like that. So I'm always trying to fit weird things into weirder music. I love that because like when I was a kid and I was playing instruments, I kind of sucked, but I always like I wanted to make these weird sounds with everything, and my dad would like, give me shit, and he'd be like, uh, I think you better stick to something out and I'm like, he didn't get it, and some people don't get it. Yeah, yeah, my family didn't get it either. My dad asked me when I'd asked him for two turntables, why I need it too? He said, why do you need to? You don't You're not gonna listen to two songs at the same time. Oh man, that's that's brief you. No, he didn't get it, but I persevered and kept on and eventually he got it. Well, persevering is a pretty good word to use, because like, what is it in this business? You have to persevere? Like overnight success takes like twenty years? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that one hit wonder song took twenty years to get to that exactly. Now,
35 one hundred and thirty songs I think of, like, man, how the hell do you write that many songs and just keep doing it. Well, Like, does it blow your mind think about that that there's that many songs. Yeah, we we have a song list in our studio and I keep it keeps growing, and I'm like, oh my goodness, how are we gonna if we go back to this one song. I'm like, I don't even have the same gear that I had back when we wrote that song. I don't know how we play that one. But yeah, no, it's it's a lot. And I think the way we keep going is that we hold ourselves to a really high standard, and that standard gets higher and higher the more we go out and tour and play the music for people. Then we start to know, oh this works. This doesn't work. You know, this is just a brain fart and we got lucky and it worked.
23 It's not gonna work another time, you know what I mean. So we just hold ourselves to a high standard. And I think if we if it makes it past the five of us and we're all like, okay, let's put our you know, seal of approval on it, then if it doesn't go out to the world in the greatest way, at least we know that it's true to our hearts and we like it, and that is key. That is what creates the long the longevity, because if you don't care about it and you're not loving it, how can anybody else? Exactly exactly, that's that's the truth. There's nothing more to say to that. How hard is it to get five people that decide? Well, it's a lot harder now than it used to be. Right, everybody's got families. We'll come into rehearsal, start at one. Not everybody will show up till two, and then at three point thirty the drumm will be like, oh, I gotta go, I gotta go pick up my daughter. And so you know, we get a good hour and a half in before something something happens.
16 But yeah, to get five people to agree, it's it's really tough. And five like opinionated, super talented people, right, at least four of them are. I think that's very humble you, but you're definitely yeah, I appreciate that one of the better ones. Yeah, craziest story you can remember in this long winding road journey of music. Oh man, there's probably more that I forgot than I can remember. And then there's a lot I probably cannot say some there's always that, There's always that. We were in Australia one time. I'll tell you this one's toy. We were in Australia one time backstage. Backstage was locked off, no one could get there, and we had cubicle dressing rooms, and all of a sudden, this kid, all dressed in white, comes knocking at our door and just opens up the door and like takes a step into our dressing room. He was dressed in white, but he was covered in soot. He looked like he had come down a chimney like Santa Claus or something like that. And our bass player at the time, he's like, did you just did you just climb through the air conditioning vent? And he was in Australia. I'm gonna give you my best Australian accident. He was like, oh he did.
28 Oh, he had crawled through the air conditioning vent and came out into the hallway and then right into our dressing room. Wow. What people will do, right Australians man, they go hard down there. Well, you know, you remind me of a story that happened here. I think it was that Louder than Life or Carolina rebellion one of those where one of the media people wanted to get an interview with Rob Zombie. Yeah, and walked backstage and without knocking, walked into was dressing room. That's ballsy, Like, who the fuck's that? Yeah, you gotta have some like right, you know, I'm like, yeah, how do you do that? Do you get the interview? Of course not, but I and I've had I've interviewed Rob before and one time they're bringing me back on the golf car and all the other media people are like, how did you get that interview? On one of them It's like I emailed them twenty times. I'm like, that's why you didn't get the interview exactly right, e mail them once. They're already gained ten million emails. They don't they want it, they'll come back.
31 Yeah. Yeah, Well, if you know you're not gonna get the interview, then it's worth the risk. Right. But if you got if you got a chance to get the interview in the future or something like that, that is not the work, no doubt, no doubt. Yeah. So anything else you want to share with the listeners, we haven't covered yet that you want them to know. I mean, just keep you updated to us. We're re recording our record Morning View. We're gonna have some uh a little you know, special guests on it and refine the songs a little bit. That'll be coming out next year. Uh Tomorrow, we'll be at the Hollywood Bowl and we're doing Morning of You front to back, So if you are in Los Angeles and you can get tickets, it's gonna be a special one. Nice. But yeah, we're just getting you know, we're wrapping up this year full year touring and gonna gonna write some music, write some new music as well, and head back out next year. I love it. I love that you guys. Just you're one of those bands that it's like, I have a lot of friends. I'm like, come on, let's go see Incubus at a festival or something, and they're like, oh, no, really know there music, And then all of a sudden, I know every single song. Yeah, you know, we're like we're like mold, we just kind of slowly grow on you. Oh man.
43 But it's a good mold. Yeah. I love it. Yeah. Well, thanks for being here at Aftershock and thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Man. Yeah. Absolutely, it's been fun on the feet. What's up, everybody. I'm Djcimore from the band Incubus, and you're listening to the Pipeman on W four c Y Radio. Thank you for listening to the adventures of Pipeman on W for CY Radio.
