We are at Shawshank Prison aka Ohio State Reformatory for the 2025 Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival. Distant is playing and came backstage in the Press / Artist Lounge to talk with Pipeman Radio of W4CY Radio about what it is like to perform at such an iconic location where Shawshank Redemption was filmed. This closed down prison is known to be haunted so when you go to Blood Prison who knows what will happen.

04 Hey you unto Yes, that's true. Wow, crazy Young. Incarceration America's rock, metal and tattoo festival. It is the pipe Man here on the Adventurers pipe Man W four c Y Radio and I'm here. With distant Yes. Incarceration Man, Like, how badass is this to play at the Shawshank Prison? Yeah? I just found out yesterday that this is the one. Really. Yeah, it's unreal. It's honestly unreal. Isn't wild when you like drive up and you see it.

45 I was sleeping, so then you woke up and you're like, whoa, why am I in prison? I know right? And there is a working prison next door too, So you guys are like, Johnny Cash, you're gonna be You're playing to the inmates. So what's it been like so far here for you guys here at Incarceration? Oh, this is for us like the first and biggest festival in the US. We're playing. That's definitely a different experience than what we're used to in Europe. But it was amazing, nothing short of amazing. How do you compare it so far to like European festivals? Like I just got back from doing download how Fast and Resurrection Fast how do you compare this so far to the ones over there?

30 WHOA, You're asking a really tough question, man, I know right, it is hard, right, and it is. I think all the fest articles it's really hard to separate it. But I feel like people much more in the States. So I like that I really swing and are aggressive for not promoting aggressive. You know what I'm saying, I'll promote I'll promote aggressive. No no, but like you get the five Like, I like it when people like Swing go fucking crazy and yeah, that's what I did here today. I was like impressed because first we were thinking like, oh, it's a festival, this got some rules and shit, but they went full ape. Shit forget the fucking rules, you know. No, no, Well it's cool And isn't it cool that that early in the day that they're going ape shit.

15 Yeah, it's crazy because like they're played some bands before us, friends of Us, Bodybox, super fucking cool bands, and like they have some good crowd. I was like, oh, it's like this is it. And then the moment we played, I saw all fucking sea of people. It was like, Yo, this is fucked nice. So for our listeners that I've never heard you, guys, how would you describe. You as artists? Not a genre, but how would you describe your music? Low and slow? I like that that should be a genre, the lows, you know, because it's like there's so many ridiculous genres nowadays, you could each band could have their own genre.

58 So that's yours low and slow genre. So what other festivals are you doing in the US? This is the only one this year because we're our curling on tour. Oh, tell us about that, tell us about the tour. Yeah, we're on tour celebrating fifteen years anniversary of Hell Chows Me by Carnifax with Suffocation, Bodybox, Wow, Mountochromatic Black, The Problemans. Was on there for two weeks, Crazy bends, crazy bens. That how the fuck do people survive this tour? Man? Because that is a crazy lineup. It's really really rowdy. I mean, I don't even know how you keep playing because you got routiness all day every day.

42 Yep, Like this is a month in for us so far and the energy is still there. I love it. I love it. So what was that moment in life when you guys decided music is what I need to do or when it became like your real passion from. When we're young already. I could say for me, it started when I was thirteen and you get to know like Gorn, slip Knots and for that like developed to like suicide Silence, and that was the start of everything. Man. Honestly, do you remember like a moment where you're like, oh, my fucking god, this is like the best thing ever. I think. I would say it's like last year for me, Like I had a surreal like moment because we were playing shows with Suicide Silence. And the thing is, like I live in the Netherlands. I live in a town like in the middle of nowhere. So the fact that we were able to do this and even like at this moment, you know what I mean, like we are worked hard for it, so like I own it, but like it's still crazy because I you know, there are so many artists and people trying. I just like be from my whole different country on the other side of the world, and actually our biggest fan base is in the US.

55 It's an ants. It's funny too because I love the Netherlands, go there like every year. Like I was, I had an apartment in Amstervin because I want to live in the culture, like I don't want to go to tourist area like I love Amsterdam, but I'd rather live outside of there, just like I'm originally born in New York. I'd rather live outside New York and go into New York and leave when I want to. But I love den Hog too, for fucking the food there. Its food is really good. It's awesome. I surf too, but it was winter. I'm like, I don't know if I'm ready to surf here in this cold yet.

35 Yeah. Yeah, I got Costa Rica to surf. So what's your moment for me? It's like this all started when I was around thirteen, when I was tired of listening to bands and I wanted to make a band. I love it. Ever since then, it was non stop griding, taking shitty jobs just to make it work. And here we are and I'm super grateful for it. And it's only to start. Yeah, you know what they say, it takes like twenty years to become an overnight success, so you're almost there. Yeah, I mean, like we've been going for ten years now. That's been a crazy rise. But I see like consistency pays off.

16 Yeah, totally. Persistence, like never giving up because you're a true artist. It's the people trying to become rock stars that give up. If you're a true artist, you have no choice. There's ups and downs, but you gotta overcome it because ufter the down, there's an up for sure. Yeah, you just got a grind for it. You just can't stop, guys, stay in for the finish line, right, I have to be hungry, that's right. So what else would you want to tell the listeners that we haven't covered yet that they need to know about you guys, and what's coming up and stuff. Like we got a lot of coming up. We got a lot of tours in US lined up, buy tickets, Marsh mush harder than ever, Mauch, Like you have insurance.

02 That's what we want to see. I love that and loads of new music, having music. I think our best material ever. I still need to draw pus. Oh yeah, yeah, I see, Like I think people don't realize that too. Like you know, when you're into the original band, like when they're just like a club. Band, you want to stay exactly like that. But artists see their best music coming because you're learning your craft, and you just gain better at what you do and you have better tools to make better music. Am I right? You're right? So it's like a personal growth basically.

44 Yeah. And even as you get older, like you can think a little differently, so there's more to add to it. You know, that rawness in the beginning is really cool, but if you're an artist, you want build on top of that, not stay that to climb the letter there it is, how do people reach out to you guys on socials on the web buy your merch because they can't listen to my show? And let's say buy your merch. Well, you can buy merch on our official store. We ship worldwide, distantofficial dot com at empiricom for Europe, Indie merch for US anywhere. Nice. Well, you guys fucking killed it here at incarceration and I'm glad you're here. I hope to see you at a bunch more dandy wimmer festivals. I'm putting it out there because they'll listen to these interviews and need they need to put you on every festival.

34 Hell yeah, they should, they should, they. Shoult, especially with the new records. There it is, and when does the new record drop. Again somewhere next year somewhere, all. Right, So everybody's got to keep following you guys, so they know exactly when to get that new record. They should. It's different man. Yeah, keep your eyes peeled as the class siccess big thanks coming. Yeah, and I'm gonna say it, if you think you know heavy, you don't know heavy. Yeah. I love it. That's the way to do it. Thanks a lot for being here and being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Thank you so much. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man.

18 I'm w for CUI Radio.
