04 Hey, you have THENTO censure. Wow crazy you whycoume America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W four C. Why do'm com wis pomp Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the Ppe Man. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four C, Why Radio at grasp Pop and I'm here with Death by romy Nice. I always love when I interview a band one year back home in the States and then I see him here in Europe or the UK, Like I see a bunch of bands and they're like, what are you doing here?

56 It's nice to see a familiar face, like we said. I know, right, absolutely, So I gotta tell you I was at your set and you freaking killed it. That is a cool tent there, and you had it full. I was sick. Do you think we're there? I don't know. I couldn't even see past the tent like I was up front. I want to say, if download was like seven, that was probably at least six. I mean I was taking a couple images where they Yeah, where'd they go? Where'd they go? I loved all the led screens they had in that tent. It looks sick. That tent is badass like that roof yeah, and everybody was sow into it. So I gotta know how much have we improved since you saw us last year at after Shock. I think you're great anyway, but you were badass. You were a badass, and what I like most of all, most of all is could have been not as good for you, and you just had such a positive attitude after what could have not been positive. And the crowd was cheering to the to the fact that you were talking to them about what was going on and they were like they were supporting you them. No, it sucks when the song starts and the show can't really begin because of technical difficulties or whatever, you know. And I don't know what the sound people had going on, but there was no way we were gonna be able to play the show with the

27 mic feedbacking like that. So I was like, you could have fucking cut the ship and then like nobody left, Like sometimes that will happen. That's what sucks is people just leave, but they were cheering instead, they're like supporting you, and that that feel really good. You know, I know what to expect from a metal festival. You know, you got some serious hardheads at these festivals, and then you got a lot of really supportive, really sweet people and me gatekeepers which we don't meet. There were no gatekeepers in that tent. If they were, they left and good let them leave. So how does it feel to be overhere in Europe and doing these festivals over here? It feels fucking awesome. You know, I've been doing this project like ten years now, and it took so many years before we finally got the opportunity to start touring last year, and ever since then, we've just been going and going and going and going. And there were so many times I thought, like what when the what the fuck is it going to take? Like when when am I going to be given the opportunity that I know I fucking deserve to go prove myself out there and to be doing my second run in Europe on these massive stages, hitting all these festivals. I've never even fucking heard of going places with my friends. Uh, you know, I wouldn't have like dreamed of going and less on vacation. Perhaps it's been awesome. It's been really fucking gratifying nice and it's kind of cool when you come over here to a country and all these people are cheering you, and You're like, how do they even know who I am? Right, Sometimes that happens, You're like, hell, yeah, well most of them are discovering you on these stages at festivals. You know, most of these

57 people are they hear something that sounds a bit intriguing, they come, give it a chance, and uh, you can tell when you went over a crowd or not, especially when it's full of so many new people. Yeah, And I mean, you just killed it there. And I can't say that enough. And I love your guys outfits, especially since, like I'm a skater and a hockey player, so I'm looking at me bad. Yeah, thank you. There's actually a motorcycle, neepads, some heavy duty motorizer. Yeah, and I'm thinking myself. You know a lot of bands that like run and slide across stage probably need those things. Oh yeah, they do. We were We were using like dancers and nee pads on the last tour. We just did because I was I was taking a dance class and I realized like, oh my god, we literally need these for stage.

42 We're always fucking thrashing our bodies around on the fucking floor, Yep, no regard. Uh. And then I saw these and I was like, not only are these so fucking like heavy duty, but they looked so hard. And I came up with this like concept for the outfits that were in for this tour, that these like really completed. Yeah, what of other bands that you've been at these festivals with said about, said about you have any of them caught your set and like talked to you about it? To meet a lot of other bands on this We've been forced to be so in and out too that I've barely gotten to catch anyone else that I wanted to see. But we've had a lot of people come out from a couple of different labels out here, and just supportive people from all the different festivals out here.

30 You know, we had owners of the festivals, the main bookers like giving us massive fucking applause. Nice. The show's been really really well received, and it's not only gratifying, but it just it feels right. You know, it's final, It's finally being received the way I've always intended for it to be. Too. Well, you know what they say in this business, it takes twenty years to become an overnight success. I've never actually heard that one. Yeah, let's play it business. I think I'm getting close to up, having had to put in my ten thousand hours here, you're almost there. Because let's put it this way. Metallica, who like I knew them before before all that ten years they were eating baloney sandwiches with no bread, sleeping all of them on one little floor. And now look, so that's where you're heading. EBT was definitely getting us by on that last US tour. It's a shame we don't have it here. So are you doing anything else over here in Europe? In UK? After this?

30 This is officially our last festival of this run, but we leave to Rome tomorrow. Nice it'll be a lot of our first times there, and we will be playing our last show, third show, opening for none other than baby Metal. Wow. Yes, it's been incredible opening for them. Wow, that's gonna be wild. Yeah, honestly my favorite band I've gotten open for so far. I think that's gonna gain you a lot of followers because Baby my old fans are like insane, you know they are, and I love it and I think you fit right in there. So it's awesome. That is pretty awesome. It's it's translated really well. For us, it's been an honor to play with them. They put on an incredible, fucking, seamless, fucking show. So it's nice to, you know, have a little encouragement to push ourselves extra hard when playing with someone so talented.

23 Oh yeah, and so, what have you learned over the past ten years about this music business that has made you better? You think? My god, See, that's a hard question. Nobody's asked. The list is endless, but I'm trying to think of one of the most stand out things. What have I learned in the business in the last ten years that's made me better? To trust myself? That's the first thing they came to my head. And I don't know why, best thing because Listen questioned it. But that's how you're a real artist, because the real art just go up there and be themselves. And you can tell anytime I've ever leaned into trusting myself, it's proven to be have been the right decision for me. It's proven to be the most successful decision for me. It's proven to be you know, what should have happened. Yeah, And when I was younger in the industry, I had a lot of voices, you know, around me, a lot of different people whispering different things in my ear that I felt, you know, I should trust these adults. These people have been in this business longer than me, this or that. But regaining autonomy over my project, being independent the last couple of years and really fucking grinding and trusting myself and having a team that supports me and allows me to trust myself has been the greatest thing. Ever. That's the way it should be. Anyway.

43 I've always said that, like, if you're an artist, the business people shouldn't tell you how to be artists. They shoul absolutely not do their job and then let you do yours because you're the creative. And I never did get that. Like back in the eighties, I used to be backstage for all those eighties these bands and stuff and listening to these record labels ruin metal, because that's what they did. They just told them what to do and this, and they converted these bands that were good into something that were flashes in the pan and then gone. Half the time, the people on these labels or the you know execs you're referring to, have never been tried making music a day in their lives, and I told myself after I asked my A and R if they had ever tried making music a day in their life.

28 They said no. I fired them and I told them not to tell me how to make music good for you? Good for you, because listen, I am all about if you're true yourself as an artist, people can see it. If you're doing what the labels tell you or anybody tells you, they can see that too. Absolutely, the fans can see it. Most importantly, absolutely so tell everybody, uh once again to how people can reach out to you guys on socials, on the web, see all your stuff by your merch. Unfortunately, I exist everywhere the Internet allows me to. You can find me on Instagram, YouTube, YouTube, community, TikTok, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, SoundCloud YouTube did I say YouTube at Death by Roami and I have the merch booth right before going to hit your set, and you had some pretty cool merch up there too, So people have to buy your merch. That's the only way you guys survive is with merch. Thank you so much. Yeah, definitely check out my merch at deathbiromy dot com. Is there anything you want the listeners to know that we haven't covered either here or after shock that they need to know, and that's going on with you. Fuck it. I'm working on my first full length album currently, oo, so keep your eyes in, ears out. I don't know if I asked you this last time, but which is your favorite tattoo? My favorite tattoo is always the most recent one I've gotten, and

58 right now it's these words I have across my arms, which are doggy, dog and gaudy. God. Wow, that's pretty cool. Hell yeah, my friend Caleb did them. He goes by pretty skin stickers. Nice. Everybody's gotta check them out. Then, Hell yeah, hey, my pleasure. Thank you for being here at Grasspop and killing it even against all odds. And man, I can't wait to see you again because you guys rock. Have a wonderful day. Thank you so much for having me. Hey, thanks for being on the Adventures pipe Man. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man on w for CUI Radio.
