04 Hey, you love the one too, that's sure. I'm come for see why for he wake up of America. It's time for the Adventures. So pipe Man on W four cy dot com west pom Beats his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with Deblon Stalls. Nice here at Bloodstock, absolutely mighty, blood stuff.
02 Are you loving being here right now? We're The atmosphere is immense just being here. Everybody's nice. It's just a relaxed atmosphere, great music. What do you want? I know? Right? And that I love how you said everybody's nice, because like you think of a festival like this or outsiders outside our family are like, oh, that must be a scary place. Not at all, right, I was talking about it earlier on and a metal festival or a rock festival. People just nice, relaxed, there's no need and nobody's trying to prove anything, which is all here for music, good times, A couple of beers. Maybe that's right. We're one big family. Absolutely. I got a funny story for you on that realm.
47 So what I go and I do all the festivals in the US and some over here, and one week and I had two festivals I had to be at, So I'm like, how do I pull that off? So I had one of my people, I'm like, you're gonna cover this festival while I covered the other one. She was a country girl, right, so I'm going to a metal festival. I'm like, listen, you go to these country shows. It's a bunch of rednecks getting drunk, kicking the shit out of each other. Ye You're gonna go to this metal festival and you're gonna find out we're the nicest people, big family, nobody's out to harm anybody, the exact opposite. You'll probably get boyfriend, you'll make a lie of new friends, and you'll have the time of your fucking life.
37 After the weekend. She comes back, Oh my god, you are so right. I have all these new friends. I have a new boyfriend now. Ike bagged him almost the skills them and here's the best one. She goes and I have this new favorite band. They're called Bring Me the Horizon. And I'm like, yeah, I think I heard of them that from the same cities US. Are they really Yeah? Yeah, oh you're from sheffields nice. My brother went to college a couple of lads really yeah, yeah, he knows it really well. Yeah, really nice lads. Yeah, and it's fine because all he always says, we'll bring me the horizon from Sheffield, England, like he always makes sure he says that we do.
30 There you go. That's the way it should be. Give props your hometown. Absolutely, we we we always when we when when we play, we always let people know who we are and where we're from. You gotta be you gotta be proud of where you're from. Absolutely, And I gotta tell you when you come over his States, make sure you give us a really good show. Because I've seen them a ton of times, but at download was the first time I saw him in their home country, and I was like, I was really excited about it. And then a couple of weeks ago I covered their show near my studio in West Bond Beach, Florida. I was like, fuck, bring me back to Download because their show at Downloads was fucking unreal. But in the States they couldn't do the same show because you know what you're gonna do, bring all that shit over there.
15 It's a lot of stuff to bring. Yeah, exactly. So have you guys played in the States, No, not as yet. That's he's said. We've had many people so ask because if we can get over there and play, but as yet we haven't. We Uh, it's just stop for us now. It's it's the cost of Yeah, and getting the visa is always a problem. Yeah, Like it's gonna be unpopular opinion in my country. But how the fuck did we say we're a free country when it's harder to get into our country than any other country? Pretty much? Yeah, even for me, Like I traveled the world and like come home, they're hassling me. I'm like, I fucking live here. Yea. But yet I could go into every country in Europe and nobody asked me a qu do we need to talk about Donald Trump? Oh my god, my listen, it's not just him. Okay, it's death Santist too, my governor, you know about him fucking aid off de Santists. He's like Hitler.
17 We're removing books from schools. No Black history allowed taught in school, No LGBTQ allowed taught in school or in any books or any mention. Yeah, he is a fucking piece of crap. He's got a lot of people of the same. Trump's just a clown. Okay, listen, he has the mouth and he does this whole thing. Yeah, and it's it's all about pony show. The Santist is scarier, younger, charismatic, yeah, educated, all the things Trump's not. Yeah, but Trump is. It's so silly. Trump lives between me and my studio, so I gotta drive past his place to get to my studio. And you still have these idiots standing out with signs Trump two twenty because they still think the election is going to be overturned. Oh dear right. Yeah, so he's most amass some bigger idiots than he is. Oh yeah, Well he knows what he's doing because the people he amasses he would never break read in a million years. He knows they're stupid. Yeah, he said it back in the eighties, if I run for president, lying Republican, because they're so stupid, they'll vote for me. Well, when he was running for president and he was saying, the first thing I'm wanting to do is build a wall between US and
48 Mexican. Do you know what, if I were Mexicans, I'd build the fucking wall that clone out. Well, what you know, what's even funnier about that. The Mexicans don't walk over the border. There's tone are they fight? Like, that's the stupidest thing. I saw some Spanish Mexican show. This guy in area was so funny. He's like this idiot, like, we're not walking across the border. We all got money, we're taking planes. Fuck is wrong with you? You're not suggesting that was entirely performative or it was just to buildings. Stupid people, and they didn't even he didn't even build a whole wats one little Yeah, you just walk around that stupid however much we fuck things up in this country, you guys show show us the way money. Oh I'm telling you, it's like here, Okay, maybe I can't walk that way, so I'll just walk that way.
48 So like what the people buy into this ship? Well, I see we did. We did quite a good job of fucking the country when we left Europe. Yeah, yeah, that's a sore spot what you guys say, isn't there? Yeah it we managed to screw his own country over quite well. Ah, it's insane what's going on in the world. That's why we need guys like you that give us music to escape all this idiot bullshit. Yeah, hopefully that's what we're trying to do that. I mean, there's one race, the human race, absolutely, period, Absolutely. Why are we so stupid and so all this stricken book divide and conquer like I have this rule or its thought. They're all on the same team, and the politicians and it ain't mine. Yeah, yeah, they're all colluding together.
33 There's no Democrat Republican. They're colluding together for what they want. The same here between conservatives and labor. It's the same part. The different colors, but it's the same one. You know. What's sad? We would be better off having Reagan and Thatcher back. Yeah, that's how sad stuff. Right. Some of these movies were amazing, But I don't think you'll get very far in the country saying we need gotch boat. Yeah, particularly if you from the North were probably not. One of my favorite exploited songs is Naggie. You know, so tell us about your music for our listeners.
15 I have never heard you guys before. How would you describe as an r's not being locked in by some label genre that somebody wants to play in for us, we I would say where we can be quite heavy in places, but for us, it's a good heavy, catchy riff and a good catchy melody. And the key is melody. I think it is key. Even with some of the heaviest bands that I like, it's the ones with melody. It's just like, and that's it. That's enough. If you are doing that with a melody, I'm cool. Yeah, I mean we're sort of the genre is sort of nineties two thousands heavy rock gruns that sort of vibe to it. Undeniably, the Seattle sound has got a big thing with us. But for us, I think we're sort of heavier in this way and softer in other ways. We sat We've got quite a lot of heavy bits, some soft bits, but running throughout we all's melody. You know.
16 It's funny it's you mention grunge and I'm fine. I don't know about here about in the States, it's almost like grunge is making a comeback. Oh yeah, yeah. It was good music, you know, and arived a band recently that they basically were similar to Nirvana, and they didn't sound like Nirvana, just that similar vibe. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Well I think people could connect with that music. There was a connection because it was It wasn't like for us, we don't write songs about sitting on the California beach because we're from Sheffield, right, the nearest beach is one hundred miles away and he's covered in ship. You're sitting under Sheffield corner. Yeah, I mean, so it makes no sense for us to write, right, But some buns do you know what's funny about you saying?
03 At one time I interviewed who I'm close friends with now because I've interviewed him a few times, Joe from the Vandals, and he said people always ask me, which I never did, are we gonna write new music? And his answer to me was who wants to hear new music from new punk music from some fifty year old dudes? Yeah? Right, yeah, yeah, And that's how he was now. On the other hand, I would yeah, yeah, yeah. He's how they feel about it, though, isn't it. That's how he's how they feel about point in new music. Yeah, if you're not proud, but it's to your point of what he's thinking is the angst he was writing music about doesn't exist as life, So how can you write that it's not authentic. Yeah, absolutely, And I think authenticity is most important even on stage. Oh, it's most importantly on stage because I can looked up there. Hey, I can looked up there and tell if you're going third emotions doing the formula or we're just having a good freaking time and you're passionate. Like you write music for yourself, yea.
11 If the audience relates to it, that's a bonus. But you don't write it for them. You write it for you, and then people will relate the same for us. We don't write music trying to be popular. We don't. We write music that we love and if we love it and other people are gonna there's there's no point in writing music trying to catch a trend, right, because you turn it into the Chinese hypocracy, don't you. Yeah, Well, like they d re recorded that a million signs because by the time you finish it, music can moved on. Yeah, we won't do that because smart. Yeah, We're just where we are and that's what we do. I'm not saying if you dig it brilliant. If you don't, well I'm fine, you know, no no problem. You know what I think It's funny. I'm over here in the UK and I always see people with hats of ball teams in the US what we call football. Yeah, I see, I think, and I think football makes more sense for soccer because we actually kick. Yeah, and you very rarely kick the ball in your former football exactly was mostly a kicking game when it started, though, wasn't it in the twenties? Probably, But obviously neither you or me are old enough to remember that, right. But I've been I've been in flan since I was a kid, so I'm not I'm one of those guys that wears the heart, doesn't suppose you'll remember Joe Montan of course, hero Joe Monson and Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Tom Rothman, even Steve Young notably, maybe maybe better not Joe Montana though he's not Joe Man the goat.
43 Oh he was an amazing I'm a Giants fan and I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah right, I still see the hit by Jim Burt, don't you? And nothing broke his word worse. I was a kid when I interviewed Learned Marshall. Really yep, And I've hung out with lt. Oh my going out to dinner when I was a little kid with Kyle Rote, which was Kyle Road Junior's father, who Giants and like the fifties. But do you remember, I remember when I was a kid, the Giants lost the Super Bowl because the quarterback Jopas Archic fumbled on the kneel. Oh he had to there was kneel down. The game was over. The miracle.
28 Yeah, all he had to do was hand off the kneel down. He didn't neither, right, Clement Edwards picks the ball up. Actually, embarrassment will never live down ever, ever, ever, ever ever. But Montana I had to have great respect for like nobody was like him, and the way he would get out of the pocket and for a really skinny spindley guy, he took he took his licks and he got up and he kept playing and he was playing the game in his head. Yeah. Yeah, no better athletes than he was. Who's playing the game. And he's had to his free moved ahead every time. That's the key. Like Muhammad Ali, there were better boxers, but he outsmart at them, he out psyched them, and he only ever to let you do what do you want to let you do? Look at way he did to George Foreman. You should have gotten pummeled. Yeah, and he caused this guy to retire because he embarrassed himself by the big mine out and then bang smart smart smart smart, and you know, speaking of what you're talking about before. That's one of the things I love about Ali is the lyrics he writes are all about him, but I fucking relate to them, Like the key, isn't it? Yeah?
41 You are either right. You can write really personal store, but it has to be relatable in summer. Our lyrics are really quite ugly. You can quiet you know, they're not obvious what it's about, but they're also generally know that another person can relate on. It's great when we get people we'll sort of talking to us are saying, oh, you don't do you know what that song means to me? And it's not what the song's about, right, it was who writes the lyrics and leg Yeah, yeah, I get it, that's what it means to me. I love that you're saying that because there are a lot hard as they get pissed off because people are reliant or thing and are like, that's not what it's about. That doesn't matter. But that is what it's about to them. Yes, what it means to you. You just need to connect. That's how you connect.
26 Absolutely. I write a song that means something to me on one level, but when these guys listen to him, maybe something else. If you got down the street, it's something else, and it should be. Yeah, that's how you connect with everybody, and they can feel the music. If it's real clever enough, it should mean it should mean something to everybody. So now what are you gonna do after blood stuff? Well, we've got quite a few more gigs to do, quite a few more festivals to do, and then we'll work us way towards the end of the year. We've got a new album ready to sort with the We just need to sort it out and learn the bit. But it's all pretty much wrote. We just but we tend to take a time off end of a year, write a new album for the coming year and love that. That's so old school, absolutely, because that's the one thing I always thought was the positive about the pandemic. If you're going to pick one, is artists like you could jump off that hamster wheel that you've been on and literally write music the old way where you actually think about it and mold it instead of writing something real quick on the tour bus and lay your next day exactly. I mean for us, we used to write things as we went along, and then COVID hit and we couldn't meet up, so we had to change the formula.
41 And the formula that we've changed it too, has really really worked. See, So there you go. There's the positive and we're definitely back now in the mold where we get to the end of the year. The songs have been wrote, I write them throughout the year and get a rough demo together for the guys to us and two and that we got get to the end of the year and we make that album perfect nice, I love it. And then we come out in the new year. We've got it under his belt. We're ready to roll. Can't wait. So what's the craziest thing that's ever happened? For you guys? And you might all have a different answer in this musical journey, the craziest thing that's ever happened? Well, to be honest, he's crazy. It's a strange way. But how we got here. We came via a metal to the masters where you get through one league and we entered it in all honesty because we thought it would be a good gig with no great aspirations to come or do. We didn't because we thought it was a metal gig. When not metal. We turned up and the crowds were great for us. We got through and we got through and we got through and we got through and we eventually ended up winning it.
52 So that for us, did that blow your mind that you won a metal thing? Yeah? Yeah, he did did really because we didn't expect to because we're not We're not we're heavy, but we're not a metal band. And Boughts, I have to say that when do we're announcing the winner at the final, we still wanted to win jo of course, right, yeah, I did not We could kind of act like we don't care, because that's yeah, because of the thing. You act like you don't care, right exactly. We'd have been really pissed off if we didn't win. And I think it's even bigger somebody like you winning because like what you accomplished by not being a metal band in a metal competition. Absolutely, it says a lot about the music, the lyrics and everything relating to people. It says as well It says a lot about the fans, fans that listened to it, that voted you us through, how willing they are to accept something that's not what the what no more the mate keepers Like when I grew up with that bullshit, I think still happens, isn't It's not as much, not as much Like I like punk. I couldn't go to punk gigs because I had long hair. Punks gonna go to metal gigs, you know, Yeah, I mean sure, I'm not seeing another single bowl guy here, so I'll take I'll take what comes, you know what I mean, right and no, And we're one big family, so they won't give a shit.
18 Absolutely well, so far nobody showing any abuse of me, so I'll say that was a good thing. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Back in the day, you may have been deemed like at a metal show, a skinhead, you know, absolutely, and just by looking at you, not even saying hello, are you? It's crazy in it crazy And what I always thought was crazy is back then it was a small group. There was a few of us, and we were both the punks and the metal heads, were getting our assis kicked by the jocks, and instead of teaming up together. We were kicking the shit out of each other. Yea, what the fuck? We did a very similar thing England. I heard about the punk in the mel See it was the same thing. Yeah, like the mods in the Rocks the fifties and sixties is the same thing, exact different subcoult just kicking the shit out of each other. I was not going to end. No, Yeah, I mean stupid, especially if we're the minority. I'm really we should we should have got together and kicking the shit out of people that don't like music. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. We should have banned together. And I think we've kind of gotten there now. I think, you know, like for instance, last year, I interviewed Discharge here at Bloodstock. You know what, I love them When I was a teenager, never got to see them because I can't No, right, how stupid? Is that crazy? Like it's just ridiculous. So hopefully we're going in the right direction. And you guys winning
49 says we are hope because if there were gatekeepers as bad as then there's no way you would win a medal competition. No, no, no, no, he's I think people just more willing to accept different people, different bands, different music, different looks, because you should be and music's music. It's the great escape from the bullshit in the world. It's the greatest therapy for you as an artist, for me as a listener. And when we lost live music, I think that's why people were so angry. Oh there's no release anywhere. No, I agree, And I remember saying I don't give a shit if a kid gets up with a recorder and if it's a live show, I want to go. Yeah, I don't care. It's such a release, doesn't it the live music thing? As a as a playing or as a listener. It's a release for everybody, And I don't think it does anybody any good keeping that shit in. Let it out, No, you guy, get it out or that. To me, that's the thing about the marsh bit. It's not about hurting amaim and people.
48 It's about getting the ship that you're not hearing amaming people in the real world. Yeah, you know, get it out and you're good. A guy goes down, pick him up, right, come up. It's like this more name. Somebody told me about a band that was playing out in the Sophie Tent He's like, you gotta check them out there like old school exodus. And they had like ten minutes left or sets. So I go out there and I went right to the pit, and I was like, now this is the real deal. It was an old school circle pit. Nobody was trying to hurt anybody. Nobody was even remotely they We were just running around in the pit and feeling good. It's called fun, right, exactly, It's supposed to be fun. It's not fun if you're getting a ship.
33 Not really. I mean I speaking he as a man who's have the shit kicked out. I'll be honest. I didn't enjoy it that much. No, right, yeah it was it was. It wasn't for me. Somebody does enjoy it. The counsel, the wrong the wrong guy. But look, I mean, men are famously about it communicating one way, the latting the feelings be known. But maybe that's getting better. But for us, you know, the music is release. It's how we get shu out that we can't talk about that, you know, we can't put into words another way. I better ten shades of ship out of my base because there's some things that I'm not great at transmitting any other way, and it's the same for all of other thing. I love it. I love it.
14 So tell everybody how they can connect you guys on socials, on the web, check out tour dates, and most importantly, buy your merch. Yeah, if they go to de blonde styles dot com. If you go to deablon styles dot com, you can get links there to everything else. So it goes on to Facebook, through to Instagram, the whole bang. So if you go get dead blonde styles dot com, you will your website nice. And so I'm looking at who's blonde here? I was for a bit. Don't ask how we've got the name. We really don't know. I wouldn't ask that, but I was just trying to figure out who was one. Do you know what the hardest thing about being a band ever is finding a name that all of you can agree on. And that's literally the entire story. He was like, yeah, that'll don't because we all we all, we all didn't hate it. It's harder nowadays too, because every name is taken. I'm not being funny Alice in Chad's Stone Temple pilots, but we got that point. We thought, do you know, the name don't mean shit? Now, as long as the songs are good, people will be fine. If I were the star band, I would want to make a name that for those idiot press people that asked me how you got your band name, I'd be like, I just was fucking drunk and came up with some name as zero, meaning I think you'll find that surprisingly more common than you think. I know it is. I know it'll come on here right right, Yes, you guys know how to drink. It's the name
45 we hated the least and not all the ways. I love that. That's great. Yeah, that's all the ways to it. It's the path of the least resistance. Like he said, it's about the music, absolutely, it's not about the name. Who gives a fuck about the name? People like? A ton of people like them music and the name. That's right. Is there anything you want to listeners and know about you guys that we haven't covered already? I think we've covered everything quite nicely. I'm right. Yeah, I think it's been a long shot. We've enjoyed it. We just go to de blong stars dot com followers on social media on the world will be a better place, absolutely, and I think the world is a better place were band like you in it. So thanks for being on here and thanks for being on the Adventures. It's been an absolute pleasure, absolutely Internet. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Fate Man on W four CUI Radio
