04 Hey, you love them too, that's sure. I'm coming from four see wow, wake up America. It's time for the Adventures. So pipe Man on W four CWY dot com west pom Beats his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. It's it's the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with czi y K. My name's Colin vocals Taylor. I play guitar. I'm Cody and I play bass Sam and I'm the drummer. Nice start off right off the bat because I'm a Jew and it's high Holy Days right now, and I dig your star David there. You don't see that often at a metal show, so I think it's badass. I like the other necklace too, tell us about that, thanks, Well, it's for me, like I know, like Star Dave is, like, I mean's the Judaism, but for me it's the Hinduism simile for the heart and the lungs. I go with the whole hard thing, and I ended up making this lung necklace.
36 See. I think that's cool. Especially I was just in Bali for a couple of months, and so I was going to all the Hindu temples and it's pretty cool, and like some of them are combined with the Buddhist temples, which I thought was really cool because you know, religion in our country, God forbid, you should put two in one place like it's and it's stupid. Like I learned over there, we can all co exists very easily, and that's what's I think that is totally cool. Message nice. So here you are louder than life. How's it been so far? It's been a dream come true. Honestly, it's been our It's actually our first festival as a band, so you know Danny Wimmer festivals. You know, we actually went to Aftershock last year and as a just a crowd contestant it was amazing, and artists, it's even better. It's been an amazing journey.
31 So and you have had a journey to get here because you like wanted to get here, right, So let's tell the story about that, because I always think that's cool where a band gets an opportunity to show what they're made of to get on festival by winning a music contest, because there's a lot of hard competition. So you guys must be badass for sure. I mean Cody our basis. He actually started Sezyk by him self originally, and we're brothers. Once I was like getting towards like senior of high school. I was like, your vocals are kind of shit, and I'm okay, let's trying me. So Cody and I we started writing and we released a few songs by ourselves. And then Taylor he's actually a buddy of Cody's from high school and he's a guy a guitar, so we were like, please come on with us. And then with Sam the stars aligned and we actually found him through a Guitar center flyer, like we posted it on one of those billboards out back. That's old school, right, Yeah, that's sure.
38 I mean anyway to network and connect with people, right, And you know, it's been shit. It's been about like six years as a band and playing shows for two so being out louder than life, this is like the Holy Grail moment, you know. Yeah. I was gonna say, with the the way we got into the festival, the contests, Yeah, the contest that we won, it was really the only reason why we was because we released our single Grave in Heaven and that got us a lot more traction than we expected, and all those new fans, we were able to get them all the show up to the live stream and they all voted for us. And then you know, we're so grateful to be here from our fans helping us out and voting for us. And it was because of our last single, I think, but well, there you go. It must be a really good single, then then do that. Oh yeah, it's our best work so far. And how did the crowd react? Was it way beyond what you expected? It was definitely a way beyond what we expected, because I mean, you know, getting an earlier set time, you don't really know what to expect of how many people are come early to see us, And I mean the crowd pulled through great crowd interaction and it was a decent sized crowd for a band as small as us, and it was anything we could have asked for and more. I love it. And so how would you guys describe yourself as a band, not like record labels would describe you or anybody else that once you've put you in a box. I'd
10 like to hear how the artists describe their music to the listeners. You mean, like influences pretty much whatever you want to say, I'm just more about the artists expressing their music opposed to some idiot that puts you in some genre that you're box into. I think with Caesyk, the best word to describe us as hope. I like that, you know, we when it comes to the lyrical content of it, you know, just trying to make everything relatable and like whatever situation you're in, we want to be able to aid it with our music as much as possible, and then with our instrumentals, we're trying to tell a story. And I was gonna say every song that we have we kind of try to go outside of the metal genre, you know, because like ar song already over, we're taking pop punk influences from Sam and then like I like Breaming the Horizon, so that's more metalcore.
06 But then we listen to like black Bear, so we have like more poppy stuff. We don't like to be like contained to the metal genre either. We take from everything. Yeah, especially nowadays. I love that because it seems to me that a lot of metal bands, when they don't have the blending of influences like you do, they have this formula, which metal was never a formula type music and then every single band sounds exactly the same. What makes you unique is when you have all of you that brings something different to the table. And I mean I I would say, we're kind of giving the middle finger to like metal lead us that, like everyone tries to contain you to just one specific genre, but we have like a well balance of you know, metalcore, hard rock, pop punk, Like we just try to get a nice blend, so there's something for everybody. And I love that because I come from the time of the elitist and I hated it.
05 And what you know, what's interesting though, Like I'm a thrash metal head, the Big four thrash don't sound like they're from the same genres, and that's what I'm talking about. It's like, to me, music is like a color wheel and people only want to stick to one color. I don't see the point in that. I like to know the colors. Even with like so why my top five? It's bring me to horizon, okay. And even with them, they're getting catching a lot of flak lately for the music they've been doing. But to me, I'm just like, well, they're growing as artists, they're experimenting, they're bored. Like I always said in an interview, why do I want to write the same song over and over again? So my ads off to him because I like the heavy, old school death four ship, but I also like the poppy shit, and I like the you know, mellow stuff, and then I like to get in your fields emotion. I can confidently say that Bring Me the Horizon is one of the only bands, if not the only band that's been able to switch all the way from death core to pop and do it successfully while keeping the majority of their fan base. Because you hear all the shit about them, you know, like haters and whatnot, But those are just the people that are the loudest with their opinions. But in reality, like him and I, we've been here since Count Your Blessings and s Epaternal and Suicide Season and we love Amo, we love That's the spirit and their current singles
37 too. Yeah, it's crazy and we aspire to be like them too. Now they're going back, so it just proves it's not that they went away from it. It's just like, let's write something different now. I feel differently. When you're writing each album, you feel differently, you have different things have gone on there's more things to talk about, you know, And as an artist, when you get better, you don't want to play the same as you did on the first album because usually as an artist, you think you sucked when you look back to that. Absolutely always Like it's funny how that always happens, Like looking back, you're like, god, I sucked, but then like you're really proud of what you're at now, and then years go by you look by it like, oh my god, I sucked, right, And like with the more songwriting we do, the more performances we have, like we're just everyone's always involving as an artist, and all of our influences are constantly changing, so our music is gonna take that journey with us. And I'd also say that we're lucky that a lot of our influencers are all over the place between each other. So like I love Followed Boy, Cody doesn't really care for Followed Boy. That just say is what it is, And so that helps us, you know, spread our wings and try more things than I think we would otherwise. It's funny that you said that, because you know fall Out Boy and Bring Me We're on tour together, and I was like, well, that's a strange combo, but it was cool. Yeah, I mean, but I love how the
09 music industry is slowly starting to resort to like getting like fall up Boys, pop punk, bring Me the Horizon. You know, obviously they're all over the table, but primarily metal core and such, and being able to combine those two genres together like every single night, both bands are getting new fans every single night. Yeah, well see, and you hit on a very important point is the elitist They don't want to see you get bigger. But then how do you survive, how do you you know, feed yourself unless you're getting bigger. That is the goal. It's not non metal to want to be able to do this for the rest of your life. And you don't do that If you don't get bigger. What's the point of being in the music industry if you're constricted to one genre. One and perfect example is Metallica. So I'm one of the originals from Metallica. I went to their first show ever. That's crazy. So when the Black album came out, the twenty five of us that were there, hardcore old school fans were like fucking posers, blah blah blah, bullshit. And at the end of the day, but look at what they did for metal, Like you wouldn't have a festival like Ladder in Life without Metallica bringing it to where they brought into And it's funny with Metallica because I feel like they've like they've changed their sound quote unquote, but they've pretty much stayed in like the thrash metal area for
41 the majority of their career. And you know, some bands like Breaking Benjamin, for example, they stay with their one sound because it works, and that's totally okay. But like Breaming the Horizon, like us we as musicians, I feel like it's a disownment to the industry to not evolve in expand. Oh, I think you should totally evolve otherwise you're not getting better as musicians, is my opinion. A lot of times bands that don't evolve is because they don't know how to play anything else. You know. It's like they may just know their basics and they didn't learn more. Just like I was talking about Mattauka Heffield, he learned how to sing, he hates how he sang back in the beginning. I loved it, but maybe the masses wouldn't have loved it, and we wouldn't have this conversation right now. And that's the point. You have to get better at your craft, and once you get better, then you start experimenting in different areas my opinion for sure.
43 How do people connect to you guys on socials, on the web by your merge all that stuff. So we have a link tree, slash, season yk Official. We're on all streaming platforms, so Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, you name it, Instagram, I am as Szyk Official, YouTube, Sezik Official, and I don't think I missing anything else. Yeah, No, just go to like our Instagram or Facebook and then yeah, from there there's a link that brings you to like the merchandise and everything as well. All right, cool, And we also have szyk official dot com. That's our official website where you can keep up today with our most recent music and also where we're at touring. Nice any final words you want to leave our listeners with that they need to know that we haven't touched on yet.
31 Thank you so much for being a great host. Well, thank you. I love that compliment because I always think like fire and artists will be the shittiest part of the job, especially I listen to some people, I'm like, they have to go around thirty times and answer the question how do you get your band name? Like I fucking want to shoot myself, okay, you know, and like if it's already out there, why are you asking? That's not an interview, Like I'd rather just have a conversation, have an artist like you who say, hey, this was fun. And since you're making that point about how the band names start, Cody and I's last name is cup check kup sez e y k. So he made it at first and just you know, pull it, put a cool fun on it. I was like, all right, sezy y k, there you go. And you know, it's so hard for bands to come up with names nowadays, so that was an easy one because you can easily do it and nobody else was gonna think of it. I'm like, it's a unique name, and when you hear it the first time, you're like, uh, chick check But then what, yeah, don't worry. Like even just that interaction of like how do you say that name, it's just ingraining in your brain and it causes conversation and people to talk and there you go.
45 Yep, absolutely, you know you're playing it ladder than life. Play a lodder than life. That's right, well cool. Thanks for being here and thanks for being on the Avengers of play Man. Oh, thank you so much. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pateman on W four CUI Radio M
