04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm come. I'm to c why for you? Wake up of America. It's time for the Adventures of Pipe Man on W FOURCY dot com. West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the white Man Joyle getting down on all fours boards. Thats the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man w CORC Y Radio. And I'm here with my name's Luke and I'm in the band Cleopatrick Nice here at Download Festival. Yeah, twentieth anniversary. Like I think about this, Okay, they must handpick for I mean that's a big thing, twentieth anniversary. They don't just slap a lineup together. They handpick who they want to be on that. How does that feel to be get that honor to be one of the few that gets on this It's it's totally an honor. And we're really excited for the set today. We're also a big ACDC fans and they got that live at Donnington record that we're We've been ripping for the past couple of days. Nice just getting getting ready to play this this festival and playing this special park. I know it's pretty cool, right,
38 have you played download before. Wow, so your first time is the twentieth anniversary. That's pretty cool. Yeah, we're lucky guys. I mean it's not cool here now though, Like you know how rare this weather is. Yeah, I know, I'm melting. I'm glad this isn't like a video thing. I know, right, I live in Florida and I'm freaking hot, Okay, So I mean I'm usually coming. I packed winter clothes for here because like last year was freezing and then hot and cold, but now it's just straight out So I think it's brutal for a band, Like how what's it like? Do you are you just on such a drolling that you don't pay attention to heat while you're playing? I guess a little bit, Like yeah, the elements kind of they fade into the peripheries as you kind of focus in on just getting the lyrics right right, having having fun and but I don't know if I'll be able to ignore it today. We'll see you well be good, you know how it goes. You think that now and in the minute you get on stage, you'll like being this zone, you know, as long as I'll just go up some water and it'll be fine. Yeah, and then when you get off stage you'll die.
45 Yeah, that's why I'm glad I'm talking to you now because probably afterwards you'll be like, I'm not doing anything right, you know. So what else new is going on for you guys right now that you want to tell the listeners about. Well, we just we just put out in a new EP a little bit ago that we're super proud of. It's called Doom. It's got like all our best songs on their best songs so far. Other than that, like, we toured so much after COVID. It was like a year straight at touring and now we're kind of taking some time off to make a new record. So I don't blame yeah, I don't blame it, because you know, it is funny. Okay, we had that whole lockdown, and as you know, I go and I do all the festivals, so I'm like somewhere every weekend and just like you nothing. And then last year it was like I was so burnt by December, yeah, because everybody packed in every festival that was miss and I'm like I don't want to even do an interview for like fucking months. Yeah. Yeah, it's crazy.
46 It's like I can't say no to stuff after doing nothing for a little bit. That's the other You accidentally take on too much exactly, and then it's like, you're right, I'm thinking about what you just said. You can't say no because it's like what if it it's taken away again? You know. So tell our listeners who have never heard you before, how you would describe yourself as a band, not from a genre standpoint, but just your artistry. Yeah, Like we're a guitar band that we like to say we just make honest music, like try and say our piece and do you know, take our influences and kind of filter them through whatever we're feeling. Yeah, I don't know. We we put a lot of effort into having unique sounding recordings and fun live shows. And we also don't take it too seriously.
34 I don't know. I don't know how to. I don't know where that puts out. How can you take it too seriously? It's supposed to be fun, yeah, exactly, How do people in the audience have fun if you're taking too seriously? Yeah, we try and keep our expectations set at a reasonable level. And yeah, we just enjoyed making records and playing shows so those five best songs. Yeah, do you attribute that to the COVID Lockdown out me material wise? But I kind of think like, if you're gonna take a positive from the Lockdown, that some of the best music ever is going to come out because you had time to really kind of re evaluate where you want the music to go. You know, before that you're on this hamster wheel and you never have stopped time to stop and think or get creative. It's like, let's just pump this album out because we need to get it by a deadline and we're on the tour bus and this and that and all that, so you finally got to do it like the slow way. Yeah, I definitely gave us a lot of time to like think about our music without it revolving around touring. Because like when when our music revolves around touring, we make a lot of high energy, loud stuff, intense stuff, and there's some of that on this EP, but there's also some softer stuff, like where the messages other than just like a rage are conveyed and we're really excited about that now and kind of taking more steps in that direction of I don't know, more more dynamics and we did. Like our first record it's called Bummer and it's like mega aggressive, and the next thing to do, I think it's gonna be like contrasting that. Yeah,
06 yeah, that's a good name. His name. I mean, like it's like who didn't think about? How come nobody thought about that before? Like it's like such a perfect name. Thanks, thank you? Now Doom? So does that have significant mean to it or is it just another cool name? Yeah, it's sort of like there's a song called Doom, like a the title track is on the EP, and that's sort of like paints the picture. I guess of the overarching sentiment, which is like, I don't know, it's a bit of stuff about the modern world and technology. Like I spent way too much time on my phone the start of COVID, and it really had some some bad effects on me. And I was able to recognize that, and it just happened to be like what I wrote some songs about. They're kind of like love songs to my phone. I guess that's that's pretty funny. Yeah, you know, it is interesting about that because so my youngest daughter one time I was saying, or man, one day, I just want to drive down the road, throw my laptop out, throw my phone out, throw my eyepowd out, and keep going. She's like, Dad, who you can You're more addicted than anybody. I'm like, yeah, but I lived in a time when we didn't have it and it was actually better. And sometimes it does drive me nuts and it's freaking depressing, and it gets you angry because you see all the bullshit going.
28 I'd rather ignorance is bliss sometimes, like you want to be aware, but you have to hear every negative bullshit going on around the world. Yeah, yeah, I mean there's there's a certain element of like controlled ignorance that I think is healthy, even though everyone wants to be moral and everyone wants to take care of their neighbors. But I don't know, there's like a scale to be balanced, and I think we're all just at a place in the timeframe of Earth where we're trying to figure out how to how every individual can achieve that balance. And for me, I totally agree. One day I'm gonna be driving down that that road and I'll toss my laptop. Next years it'll be like yeah, and the ard thing too. So when I hear you say doom, you know what goes in my mind? What's going on right now with AI? Because for many, many years, I have always said, because I'm a techie, I'm a gamer, I'm into all that stuff, and I'm like, the machines are definitely going to take over.
26 And it's almost like that's happening now, Like the AI is so weird now that every industry, Even with what I'm doing, I don't need my engineer to write show notes for my interviews. I just plug it into AI in like thirty seconds as the best show notes I've ever seen. Yeah, and that's scary. It's good, but it's scary totally. Yeah. There's a song on the new EP called Scaring Me. We made a music video for it that we worked on for like months leading up to the release. Took forever because we we were programming this like AI generated visual that was going to be playing in the music video. And as we were working on that like each week, sending it back and forth with this computer guy that was helping us do it, AI was like becoming more and more of a buzzword on Twitter and all that, and I sort of feel started feeling like less and less original with the idea by the time the video came out, it was like, you know, I guess this isn't that shocking to anyone anymore that AI made these weird, weird looking visuals, like right, it's it's just kind of it became commonplace really quickly, and I don't know where that leaves us. I think I think maybe it's gonna make life better in a lot of ways. But well, it's like everything, right, it's good and bad, you know, And sometimes I just thought of, right in this second, like what if at one point it's like, you know, we talk about backing tracks that people use live, Well, I don't even have to play at all. I'll just let Ai do the live show and the studio and everything, and you know, yeah, and then it's like, but then where's my creativity come in if the a I was doing everything.
01 Yeah, there's an interesting intersection there between flesh and tech. I don't really know. I don't know where it leaves this. I'm just a kid, but whatever, Yeah, well, hopefully not in either one of our lifetimes does this happen. Yeah, we'll see. You always have the option to just to just walk into the forest and you don't have to leave at any time. That's right. You can just go be in the forest at any point, that's right. I find solace in that. Well, now let's just be at Download Festival twentieth anniversary and what are you're getting? Kick an ass here, let's do it, you know, kind of in the forest right now. That's right, absolutely hot for us. Well, thanks for being here at Download and thanks for being on the Adventures of pint Man, No problem, thanks for chatting. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of point Man on w for CUI Radio.
