04 Hey, you love them too? Censure, w SE Wow, crazy you why Coup of America. It's time for the Adventures of pipe Man on W four c Y. I'm com wis Pomp Beats is number one Internet radio station. Here's your host, the vipe Man. Well, if you want to say sorry, just a plum Josh's spammel. No, no one on me, off those drama. No one wants to looking off. Look at me, now, look at me. Now, let me run. This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio.
53 And I'm here with call me Charisma. We're at Aftershock Baby. It feels good. Oh man, is this the greatest festival? I played louder than I've never actually been to either of them, but I played louder than Life. And something about the vibes here is just different for I don't know how to explain it. You're like kind of in the woods. You're like there's just a little more chaos and stuff. It's like it is a park. It's a real part, so it's like a typical California state park. So it's got that chill vibe out there yea, and back here, like we had a little bit as at Louder, but back here is a way core vine for sure. Yeah, got the open bar, the drip bar, and then did you see there's a chef out there that's gonna be my right when we walked in, I'm like, all right, after the interview, I gotta get some chicken or whatever's going on. He makes like tacos, pizza and burgers amazing, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, so both are great, but this is already I feel like, I don't know, this feels more like warm and welcoming almost, you know, like Louder's a little more open, you know, and this is like you're all like together, so it's cool. So you know what's funny is yesterday I was telling Christine, who runs the Median, ye're about, you know, Parkway Drive, and he was wearing something similar to what you're wearing. And then Jose was wearing it, you know, because he was announcing Parkway dr. Yeah, and then I see you. I'm like, is this the new trend of what everybody's wearing. It was so funny because I was like, we're packing for tour, because we just started the support tour we're on, and this is just kind of like a one off, and I was like, God, I don't want to just pack different outfits every night. So I was like, what can we do where we can just wear the same thing and then just worry about our pants or whatever. So I just packed a
24 bunch of underwear and then I went on Amazon like two days before this quickly shipped three bulletproof vestival. They're not real, but you know what I mean. Yeah, And I'm like, all right, the band, we're wearing this, this is what we're wearing for the next two months. I love it. Yeah. Yeah, and like gray idea because I think about that all the time, Like, yeah, what paying acid would be for an urse? Yeah, you know, because especially when you're playing all out on stage. Yeah, it's like and then how much clothes could you really bring with you? Like I go and tour and do all the music festivals and I have one bag. Yeah, okay, I'll you know, I'm just gonna recycled. And it's like, I hate doing laundry, so I have like pack like thirty pairs of underwear, thirty socks for as long as I can go without doing laundry. And it's just like if you can just have an outfit. You know what you're wearing. Then you just wear chill clothes the rest of the day and you don't have to worry about like is this you're cool at these pants? It's like this is where I'm wearing every day.
10 To take it or leave it? Yeah, exactly, Yeah, yeah, it's even playing somebody I interviewed a louder. We were talking about the last time I interviewed him, which was like Rockville. Yeah, he was wearing the same T shirt and then I was taught of commenting to him. You know, I see on your Instagram that same T shirt and it's like it's almost like that's his gig T shirt. Yeah yeah, yeah, well, especially like we're not in a bus and like we're packing for into a hotel room every night, trying to save money obviously, and it's just a mess when you're trying to put a bunch of clothes in the back of a sprinter, Like, dude, throw on the same sweats you did the last five days. Once it starts to smell, then switch it out there you go. Yeah, yeah, that's the life right there. Yeah yeah, yeah. Where was that point in life where you decided this is what I have to do. Yeah, So I started. I'm making music in like middle school probably, and you know, watching eight Mile and all those you know, eminem and Green Day documentaries, I was like, that's what I want to be. But I was also in wrestling, and that's just me and my brother were really really good at wrestling, and I was like breaking records in my high school for wrestling and stuff. But I just wasn't quite good enough to go D one for college. And I did music as well.
18 It was kind of fifty to fifty. And as soon as I graduated, I'm like, well, I'm not going to I went to college, but I didn't get a scholarship, so I'm like, you know, I got to go full out on something, and I just went with music. And then my brother actually went D one for wrestling and he's doing his whole thing. He's like trying to fight in the UFC and stuff like that. So we're trying to just chase our dreams and I think that's all you can ask for. I love it. And you look like you were a wrestler. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we were. I was. Yeah, I got my name over the high school walls and stuff. It was. It was a great time. But it's like if you're not going to get like a full ride to go to school, even if you go to D one or D two, D three, it's still a full time job. And I'm like, I can't be working out every day and going to college and like also doing music. So I just kind of gave that up and it was cool. I miss it. I still dream about it some days, thinking I'm still in wrestling, but it's it's the same that you're on stage and yeah, yeah, exactly, You're still like kind of one on one and that's what I liked about wrestling. It's like it's up to you, and that's kind of what going on stage is like, Yo, something you fuck up, it's your fault. You you crush it, you get all the glory type things. So it's kind of one of those things.
16 See and you're the second artist this weekend that has made the sports to music connection, where it's usually a lot of artists. Yeah, it's my almost like a separate thing. It's like they're musicians because they sucked at sports. Yeah yeah, yeah know, so it's kind of cool to hear the art thing because I played sports. Yeah yeah, you know, I played hockey. I played nine years baseball amazing. But then music, yeah, became like my true love for sure, for sure. But then I still do all stuff now, like I do all kinds of sports man and I think sports. Luckily, music's turning away from that a little bit where you don't have to make it by a certain age, which is like so refreshing because you know, you're like twenty five, thinking your life's over if you didn't make it or something. And now I'm twenty eight and I see you know, artists like Ronnie Radkey and stuff and Papa Roach and they're the biggest they've ever been in there in their forties and I'm like, oh, we got this, and with lots of crap that when they exactly they you know, people pounted them out many times, like they've been like a roller coaster, and now they're bigger than ever been. And I'm like, oh, so I don't have to make it by thirty yeor I have to find a regular, you know. Like it's refreshing to see. So it's funny too that you bring up Ronnie because to me, he is probably the role model of never giving up on your dream. One percent, yeah, one hundred percent.
32 And he's also like listen, he's very opinionated. But that's what dude, we grew up on, you know, easided like eminem rage against the machine, green day, like you know, you might not personally like the politics of whoever, but they're saying what they want. And that's rock and roll to me, you know what I mean. I love that you said that, because what pisses me off is people that are in the oience when somebody like you know, like Chad from mud Vaine, he talks a lot. Yeah, yeah, he gives his views and I hear people yell, all right, shut up already and just sing. Yeah, and people that say, oh, you're a musician, you shouldn't do Yeah, that's exactly why you should do it. And most musicians were out time. They were the voices. Ye know. You got the hip beats, the punks, Yeah, exactly, the rappers ate everybody. That's honestly, if you will get any profession, that's you know, the musicians should be the loudest of you know what I mean, Like that's you are writing songs about current time, you know, and that'll live forever, you know, and you have the influence to make positive change exactly exactly. Why should you shut your mouth?
32 One hundred percent? I totally agree with it, and you yeah, exactly like you said anything from system of down like and you could just name all the They've been in trouble a million times for their views or whatever, but they stuck it out and that's why they're legends, being true to them exactly. That's the key. Yeah, And most of those people that are the haters, they're the same ones screaming free speech, yeah exactly, but they don't want anybody else he different than them have free speech. Yeah, and I think I think we're finally moving away from that. When it's refreshing seeing people like Ron he have his own opinion and sell out fucking Arenas. You know, it's like that's what it's about, exactly. And you know, I love that you bring, you know, punk and hip hop and everything together because I come from a time where listen, I couldn't even go punk shows because I was a long hair and you get your ass kick crazy and I'm like, this is the stupidest thing I ever heard. And here's a funny story. So there's this guy that lives close to my studio he's become good friends. I broadcast some of his events. One time when I was bringing the radio equipment to his event, He's helping me take the stuff out of the car and I'm blasting Slipknot and he starts like banging his head and I looked at him and I just rolled my eyes. He's like, no, dude, you don't understand. This is my jam. It's no ice. Oh my god. You know, like, stop with the assuming what bull should be who they are, what they are, and especially an
03 artists. Let an artist just be an artist, and that means expressing yourself no matter how that is exactly. I hate the boxing in the genre. Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, the genres and nuts and it doesn't like, uh yeah, it doesn't matter anymore. People can like you can see people go to a you know, a metal show and then they'll go see Taylor Swift and that's cool. Yeah whatever, Like you know what I mean. I don't think you know, people can like spaghetti and Asian food like it doesn't matter. I don't understand analogy. I don't understand it, you know, And it's in the point of being an artist to express yourself. However you're feeling at that time exactly. You know, we all like different kinds of music. Like, I don't care who you are, you could be the most strict you know, wait more gatekeeper metal head. There is bullshit. I know you listen to other genres. I just don't admit it, yes, because who wants to listen to the same thing over and over and over? Like you'd get you'd lose your mind, you know, like people might be a horror movie fanatic, but you know they got a soft spot for something else, you know, exactly. Yeah, and then like the over and over thing from Anora's point of view, I heard Ali from Bringing Me and Bring Me In a Riza in the interview say, why do I want to write the same song over and over and over again? It would be boring as ship as boring, it'd be dumb to play and it and it'd be soul sucking at a point because it's like, well, this isn't even how I feel anymore, you know, And that's the point.
22 I was talking about that with somebody the other yesterday, I think it was. And uh, you know, as you go through different stages of life or different experiences or whatever, you're gonna change. You're gonna evolve as you become a better artist. Yeah, exactly, You're gonna want to do things better. Yeah, you know, whereas you know you're hardcore fans from the beginning, they want to keep you down here. I know. I know. Sometimes the hardest core of fans can be the ones that I almost hold you back in a way, you know, one hundred percent. It's it's weird. It's a weird thing when I make music like this. I'm like, well, because I was nineteen and now I'm twenty eight with a wife, it's like a different I'm a whole different person, you know. Well, that's like Rob says, to be goes like I wrote Ice Ice Baby when I was sixteen. Yeah, yeah, come on, like let me go right exactly exactly. So we got going on after after Chuck. So I'm on tour with this artist named Dubie. He's actually really good. He's he did a few tourist with like Jelly Roll and stuff back the day.
20 He's more hip hop, but he brings that like country rock flavor. So we're direct support for that tour. We played maybe five shows and then we fly back to Nashville, where our van is part because that was the last show, and then we drive to Burlington, Vermont and we have like twenty two more of those shows, and then any day now we're gonna announce our Europe tour. We have like fourteen shows, so it'll be sick. They're actually bigger over in Europe, which is great. I love I don't know those festivals too, and the k festivals yep. And it's funny because there's some bands from like well It's a teenager that everybody thinks and clean I did that. They're just gone, yeah, and I found that they've just been in Europe all these years. The fans there, it's the next level.
01 It's next level. I don't I listen. I'm red blooded American, like I love my American fans and everything, but you go over there, it's just a different world. It's it's kind of like if you had a favorite artist from France and they come to America, You're going to that show. It's not like, oh, I see them in six months when they come back. You know, it's like you're going You're buying all remrch, You're singing every word and it's a it's a different culture where it's like they want to go see the show. They don't care about your last tweet as much, you know, like Gojira, Yeah exactly, yeah exactly. So since you cross like the lines, Yeah, how would you maybe describe the difference between different music festivals and different I won't say genres but areas of music.
43 Yeah, I really just do whatever I want. I don't want to explain it exactly. It's just I kind of make whatever I'm feeling that day. And like i'd for sure like there's some songs that my fans is don't like because it's a totally different thing than I would normally do. But I love I grew up on hip hop music and then I really got into the my Chemical Romance era, you know, and then then the little bit of the Warped Tour era, and then you know, I just kind of mash it all together. I'll make a rap song and then I'll put out a completely different song, you know, and and whatever. That's It is hard though, when people are like, what kind of music do you make? And I'm like, I don't really know. Man, Like it's rock, but there's for sure rap in it, but it's not quite twenty one pilots, but it's you know, so I love it, Yeah, yeah, which I think is great, Like we'll get post malone. Like you would call him a rapper, but when was the last time heard him do just a rap song? You haven't he made Indian now? Yeah exactly, He's like, do an indie pop and then he'll do a country album and he's just an artist and that's how I and those are the artists that live forever.
37 He was just an artist, you know, so adds a rapper and a fan of a rapper. Yeah, going back to Ronnie that song, Yeah yeah, does that blow your mind? Is rapping skills in there? Watch the World Burner? Yeahh oh. I mean I think that's amazing. And you can tell that he's influenced by some of those like two thousands rap stuff and he and and it's amazing that he can do that and he performs it live and crushes it. Oh yeah percent. So like it's I woke up to that a lot, and I he's for sure one of the people I'd love to work with. You know, obviously he's massive and it would take a lot, but I'm always I'm always liking his shit, always been like that'd be sick to open Nie out there. Yeah, we're putting out into the world, Ronnie. If you hear this, well, he dev's like to comment a lot on TikTok, So maybe, yeah, throw some comments on the TikTok. He might not respond if it's a positive. Yeah, I know, I'd be like, fuck you, Ronnie kidding, bring me on tour please, right, that would be actually funny. Yeah, yeah, she might respond to that. Oh I like that kid, you know, right, Oh that would be cool. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
35 So anything else you want to tell the listeners that we haven't discussed that they need to know about you. No, I mean, I'm just I'm just a kid from a small town that is chasing his dreams. And I think that gives motivation to a lot of people. You know. I'm not I'm not out here living in La not that that's a bad thing, but I'm just I go back home to the home of seven thousand people, and I make my music and then we go play it for regular ass people in the world. And I think a lot of people need that right now. You know. Thing so glitzy and glamour and Instagram makes everything feel bigger than life. But you know, come meet me at a show and I think they'll they'll realize that they can stick around forever. Nice. Yeah, And then so tell everybody how to connect to you on your socials on the web, everything is quale your charisma C A L L M E K A R I Z E M A call me Charisma anywhere, call me Charisma dot com and every social is that so nice? Well? You rock? I'm aftershock and I like that you have a mic I can hold. It feels nice, I know a little power. It's funny because, uh, it's right you say that because I was looking at you in another interview. Yeah yeah, yeah, I was like, how's that sound even good when the MIC's that far away? Yeah? I know. And that's and the sound is very important, especially if it's no camera, so you gotta see what audio is in the here too. I know my sound guy he does guitar for me as well, but he would love that. Oh this thing does freaking everything, Like I could use this in the studio. It's got a limitar gain compression. And here's the wild thing. Yeah. If I fuck up on my levels, yeah yeah, it mixes it and fixes it. That's beautiful. You need it, especially here with all the noise and everything.
06 First time I used it, okay, I listened back in the thing, I'm like, oh fuck, that sounds like shit, and I'm all about sound quality. And then when I moved it off the card onto my computer, I saw it had all the individual tracks I hit on the mix. I'm like, how does that sound perfect? That's so good. You need it especially, and it seems like you can maybe drop it and it might, you know, not explode into a million pieces. Bring it places, and it's important. So yeah, exactly, and I want to. I used to bring all that crap, bring that all of sudden you break your laptop and everything's done. Well. Thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man. Appreciate you. Hope to be back soon. I hope so too.
48 Awesome see y'all. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of plate Man on w for CUI Radio.
