04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm on four see Wow, Wake up America. It's time for the Adventures. So pipe Man on W four CWY dot com West Pompeats, his number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the pipe Man. It us pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man w for c Y Radio and I'm here with Justin from Broken Love.

56 I love it here at rock Lahome Onlahome. And I'm looking at your shirt and I'm thinking that should be a shirt from the campground here at Rocklahoma. What's the campground like over here? I keep hearing about this. You haven't been there, No I haven't. It's been all the talk though. Well, look at your shirt and that pretty much describes it right there. We describe my shirt for the listener. I think you should. And then I'm gonna describe one of the camps a couple of the campsites, and so on my shirt it's a flaming lip shirt, but it's a it's a beautiful, beautiful lady. She's got her boobies out and she's holding a skull. What is more rock and roll than that? I know? Right? Yeah? So one of the there's this big bus in the campground that has like a big platform and stuff, and so this is their bracelet and I'm trying.

47 It's called the campsites called bus boobs and buttholes. You gotta point me in the direction of that. Yeah right, wait, it gets better. There's another campsite out there that's actually a strip club. Yeah, you know, I heard that after the last band plays. Some one of the stage chants was telling me at like one o'clock there's like a strip show that goes. Oh yeah, yeah, when the last band plays, everybody goes to that part of the camp site. Yeah that sounds pretty rad. Yeah. I do all kinds of festivals. There's no camping like this. Yeah, it's like and these people they're so into it. You go out there in the campground and everybody is like out doing each other with their camp site and then they all have pools. Yeah, it's just it's like such a cool vibe. It's been pretty cool so far. I can't say that I've seen much of the grounds yet. We kind of played and then I hustle it all the way over here, and I've been here for like an hour ish, Right, I got eat breakfast, dude, and well, lucky you're close to catering. Yeah, that's where I'm willing closes, but I think it's open all day. If I get them on a changeover, we'll see, you know, you go, it'll be good either way. Yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine. So how was it out there? You know, it's good. Sometimes when you come to the festival, it's the last day, it's early. Everybody was partying until six in the morning, but you didn't experience that. Surprisingly, it was actually good. You know, we've done quite a few of these kinds of things. We playing earlier in the day. It's a hot day, so people don't want to be like,

20 you know, out there getting the sun just like ran it down on them. But surprisingly, it was actually really good. And we had some of our own fans, you know, repping the T shirts and all that kind of shit, so that was really cool to see. Set was good. You know. One thing that kind of sucked is, you know, it's hot, so the guitars stay don't stay in tune. I'm hot. Oh, and also the guitars are hot. What happens like it's bad, it's terrible to play with the heat, but your guitars don't say they just don't hold very well in the heat. The strings start like dudes de tuning a little bit. And I think this is like guitar player nerds shit, but like it's really it's really a challenge to keep them in tune. And then you can't see your fucking tuner because the sun's beating down on it, you know. So we tried our best to you know, keep the pitch and also, you know, play a good show. I think it went off well. See, now that makes sense because last night I was, you know, watching Bush yeah, and I saw the guitar text like tuning the guitars all ther time. Yeah, like all the time. I'm like, man, I've that's a lot of tuning. I've never seen that much time. But now you exp Chris Trainer, you know, he beats the ship out of those guitars. He's actually a friend of mine. We've written a couple of songs together, so that's pretty cool. We have had two songs together that we've released for my band. See. I love hearing stuff like that when the bands collaborate with you know, members collaborate with each other.

49 Yeah, just for fun? Yeah, why not? You know, it's a small world. The rock community. You know, we gotta have each other's backs well, and you know what's interesting, So that's kind of sometimes big things happen because like Corey Taylor's playing here today. And so one time I was interviewing Roy Mayorga from Stone Tower and we were talking about how stone Swer got resurrected because stone Tower was before a slipnot people don't realize that what happened was is Corey and Roy were just you know, jamming out for fun. Yeah, and that's how it happened. And now we know who's stone Sewer. You never know, You never know with this, with this business, you know, this industry, you know, as I should say, and who you click with, you know, it's like that's so important.

36 Like it's kind of hard to be creative without somebody that you can click with. Creativity, Oh for sure. I'm a big believer in that, you know, like the very rarely do you get like those you know, solo guys that can kind of do it all. But to me, it's always been Lennon McCartney, you know what I mean. There's a reason why it's Lennon McCartney. You know, it's all I feel like music is meant to be collaborative. It's meant to be shared, you know, amongst your peers. I feel like when you bear the weight of it on you know, yourself, not so many guys can do that and you get lost in it. You know, there's no you know, you don't have an objective opinion outside of yourself. You know, not everybody could be Dave Grohl, is what I'm saying, right, Yeah, And you know the thing is is that with that collaboration, in my opinion, it makes better music because you have multiple influences coming into play that make you sound unique instead of like everybody else. Totally. Yeah. You know, so tell us about Broken Love for listeners that don't know you guys, Sure, how would you describe?

43 You know? I get asked that question a lot and I always get stumped. I mean, I feel like in a nutshell. You know. We're like an alternative rock band based in Toronto and New York City. We've been at it for like five years. We have two records on our belt. We just finished our third one. Our first record is just called Broken Love self title. Our second records called Black Walks, which I think is much better than the first. You know, I think we kind of have a mix of a little Royal Blood, a little Queens of a Stone Age, a little at Zeppelin, a little Sound Garden at times. You know, we're just a young rock and roll band, just trying to do what we love. At the end of the day, you know, we've been active for like five years, I want to say, maybe coming up on six now. We tour a lot, We work really hard, and we're just you know, we're just happy to be, you know, in places like rock Klahoma and doing the thing. You know, this is our first time doing this one. We've done a few other rock festivals, but how you compare this one to the other ones you've done. It's pretty great so far. You know, I gotta be honest with you. At most of the other rock festivals, I make it like an hour after I set before I'm just absolutely slashed, and then I don't end up seeing anything, you know. I'm always like, oh man, I'm gonna see Tool, I'm gonna see Rob Zombie. Then come like five o'clock, I'm just hammered in the in the end, in the trailer or something like that. It's part of the fun, man, I know, right, you know. That's why it's good you had to come over here after your set, so that

13 it kind of stalled that a little bit totally. It's it's it's definitely a little bit of a of a what should I say, It's like a segue into what's going to happen later. I mean, Pantera is playing tonight, so I gotta start gearing up at some point for that one. Yeah, you know, I miss that. That's why I'm here for the free Pantera show. Come on right, let's be real. Yeah, and have you seen them yet? Never? I mean I mean obviously I haven't had the chance for years and years and years, you know, but since they've now done this, I guess what they're calling it, like a tribute or I don't know what they're calling it, but I have not been able to see it. I think we've I've missed them like by a day on a few spots since since they've been back. But you know, I was really stoked.

56 You know, when we get the offers for these things, we don't know what the days are gonna look like, who we're going to play with, So of course, like me and the band, we're jumping for joy. We saw the we're playing the same day as Pansa. We technically open for Pansa today. And there it is there, and I can tell you I have seen them, and before seeing them, I was like, no, I'm not so sure about this. Yeah, you know, but they did justice. They did justice to the brothers. Yeah. And if it wasn't Zach, who else was it going to be? I know, you know what I mean exactly. And same with Charlie too, because Charlie was really close with Vinny, and so you picked the two right people to do it. Yeah. And you're not making it about you. That's what I found. They're not making it about them. They've made it about the brothers the whole time. So that's what's cool. Yeah. I've watched a lot of sets on YouTube and stuff, and they sound great. Really, I couldn't be more excited. Me and the band couldn't be more excited to see them tonight. Well you're going to unless you get too hammered, right, Yeah, but that's kind of the p that's you gotta see pants and then go in the pen. No. Hell yeah, I gotta start a tour in two days, so I gotta be careful. There you go, So, what's your craziest story in the past five years? Oh boy, well, there's a lot I can't say, but it seems to be the it seems to be the theme at Rock Oklahoma. Gay as a question, and a lot of times it'll take people thinking about it, but they'll always give me, give me a story. I've had quite a few that are like,

28 there's none we can tell you. Well, I'm trying to keep it PG. So let's see. The craziest thing that probably that I've done, aside from the band is that last summer I got to play it in Greece at a place called the Parthenon. It's on the Acropolis in Athens. And I got to play guitar for Alice Cooper and in this other group I play with this other dude named Desmond Child, and I got to play guitar for an sing with Alvis Cooper and Bonnie Tyler, oh and a few other kind of like Greek stars. But you know, getting to play Poison with Alice Cooper and I got to do the Dodo d then then and and that was you know, that was that when Nita went off to be with Demi Lavano.

18 Yeah, so I don't think Nita had been in his band anymore. I mean, so it was actually like a one off. He flew out to do a thing with this band that I was a part of last summer. Uh and uh, you know it was pretty monumental. We got to play at this like ancient Greek theater. You know, it all marbles, things thousands of years old. You know, you're walking outside and you're seeing things data. They tell you before you play the theater don't touch anything because things are literally dated to like one BC. Wow, You're like, what the fuck is one? You know? And here I am. You know, I've been listening Alice Cooper my whole life. And he walks on stage and I got my sunglasses on because I'm trying to be cool, but behind my sunglasses, I'm tearing up a little bit, you know, because I'm playing with fucking Alice Cooper. If I could go back and tell like twelve year old Justin like that would happen, you know, he would probably tell me to fuck off, right. You know, that was probably one of the most insane things I've done in my life. That would be totally insane.

13 Right. There's not many people in the world that can say that. It's pretty pretty substantial. Yeah, so that means you're a pretty badass because he wouldn't hire you to play. It's true. I would, I would hope, So you know, you know, he is Alice Cooper. He could pretty much have anybody play he wants. He picked you, so absolutely, there's a lot. Yeah, that was pretty fucking cool. So so how do our listeners connect with you guys on socials on the web, by your merch most important. Absolutely, it's the only way you survive. It's true. Well, it's just at obviously at broken Love music or at broken Love on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, you name it, We're there and drop the e people. Yeah, drop, so it's b r K and drop all all the vowels are gone. So br can love music and you'll find us anywhere. And I run all the socials, so you're you know, if you send us a message, you're talking to me. And I would try to respond to almost everybody. So that's uh for for all the people that want to say, hi, I love it. Well, I'm so glad you're here rock Lahoma. Thanks for being here, and thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Man Man. Thanks for having me really stoked.

20 Thank you for listening to the adventures of pate Man on W four CUI Radio.
