04 Hey, you love them too? Sure, I'm come to see why you wake up America. It's time for the Adventures of Pike Man on w for cy dot com. West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. Call me a midday. I'm still aking com Crease is on my face. This is white Man here on the Adventures play Man w for c y rad When I'm here with Beauty School. Nice and look at your hair. I almost forgot. I know that would be terrible, right, that would be terrible. What would have been even worse is if I called you the wrong name. Because there's two bands here at download with one word difference. You know that that actually happened to us.

19 We got given the wrong accreditation when me arrived. That's so funny. You could have like kept that and then had somebody else in the bad go get your other credation, and you would have had extra corredation. Oh man, So I gotta show you something just because you're called Beauty School and because your hair so two months ago I changed my hair because I was in Amsterdam for a couple of months and it was all nasty there and it was ruining my hair, and then then I went surfing in Bali, so I couldn't really keep this hairstyle, but I'll show you here it comes. That's why I look like a couple of months ago a school man, right, Isn't that?

07 I love that? So I relate to Beauty School? Is there? It is? We're friends now, I know, right, So tell us a little bit about Beauty School for the listeners. I've never heard you guys before. How would you describe as an artist? You know, I don't mean what your genre is because I don't give a shit about genres. Well, somebody, we played slum Dunk Italy last week and somebody came up to me after the show and said, you look like five guys that have just met this morning. So I think that's pretty much sums up the band really. Well that's great, So yeah, but did you get any explanation on that why they thought that? Absolutely? Non? Do you have an idea?

55 I think we just all look very different and dress very different on stage. There's no ohesion, you know, like you see some of the other bands and they all kind of have a certain look or it. Right, We're just kind of rock up and do whatever we need to do. You know what, No, you know what I love about that is it's like music nowadays, Like I come from a time with all the gatekeepers and you could only play this specific music. And I love the blending of genres, and I love how you have bands like yourself nowadays that not everybody's a clone of each other, so you can all add to the recipe to make something unique. Yeah, I think we're all massive fans are like mixing the bill today, especially like we were saying how it's so weird because we're obviously quite a lot softer in sound than the rest of the bands on the dog TI if we're playing with like Hate Breeder Headline in the stage and straight after us graphic Nature, like arguably one of the heaviest bans in the UK at the moment. So it's but it's somehow it works, and it's it seems great.

55 He's even so different, So it's it's it's a good thing. I think you're a band. Then I get to really enjoy having my rest between marsh pits. Yeah, exactly, that's what it is. We're like elevator music for a heavy, heavy festival. That's what That's what you should put like on your like next album, Elevator music for metal heads. Yeah, that's what it is. That's basically what it is. That chairs out. I love it. I love it. So what you got going on after download? So we have a few weeks off, then we play a show with Joyce Manner in Leeds and then we head to two thousand Trees that weekend, which would be really cool. We've got a show in Nottingham in augusta Nottingham is just before Trees, but it's not announced yet, so we're joining a bill basically for show in Nottingham at the end of June. Yeah, and then we've got Choice Manner, then Trees, and then we got our own headline in our hometown in Leeds in August. But it's kind of nothing.

00 There's not much in the diary in the way of shows other than that until November now because we're starting working on the second record now, so nice just recording a new album and getting some new music. We're sick to death of playing these songs now. Ye see, people don't understand that when they're on the crowd and the band's been around for like twenty years, play blah blah blah, and you've only played it like a thousand times. You know, how do you get excited after a thousand times of playing the same song? I think, yeah, I think for us, it's like we wrote this album during the pandemic because we couldn't play gigs. Yeah, and then we recorded it in sumhere of twenty twenty one, released it in at the end of summer twenty twenty two. So even though the album only came out September twenty two, you know, we've been sitting on these songs. It's like twenty twenty right, Like we've been playing him for that long. Yeah, But you know it's the crowd. We're crowded into it, into it, and we don't hey playing the songs exactly, you know. And the thing is, I've been saying all along that if you're gonna take a positive out of a pandemic, it's that some of the best music's can come out of it because bands like you have the time to really create. You know, like when you're on this hamster wheel that we were on before and Seams were on again, you don't really have the time. You have time to like half create. Like I can't tell you how many bands I talk to that, they say they, you know, they have to be a deadline,

31 and so when they put out the album, they weren't really finished. Yeah, you know, yeah, I do kind of feel a little bit of that. Really, we haven't got a specific deadline from the label or anything, but we know that we don't want the wave that we're on to kind of crash, so we're so we're trying to get So it's like, you have, you have your whole lives to write your first album, and then your second album has to be better than the first album. But yeah, like six months to do it. That's right. It's always been that way. And if your second album sucks, your shit, you know. So it's like that's a lot of pressure because you gotta make it in less time and you gotta make it better. Yeah. So this new album that's gonna be coming out, how would you say you guys have evolved musically?

18 Well, I think when we did the first album, we we our guitarist Grant wasn't actually in the band, but he was just producing our demos, far us and things like that. And because we started playing some bigger festival stages last summer, we asked him to join on as the third guitarist like sessionists, but now he's joined the band full time, and the writing process is entirely changed now because we wrote the first album in a room together, right this one, we're kind of like we're writing it and recording at the same time, and it's like so we we get to hear back the things that we've written and kind of like evaluate them and be like, Okay, this is cool book? Could it be cool? This bit is cobbage.

05 Let's get rid of it right now? And how hard is that? Okay? So I know, like a few years back, I wrote a song and I brought it to my bro, who you know, is a musician and has been doing for years, and like, make this a song for me? Now I write books. And I say that because he's like, what the fuck is this? This is a book. This is not a song. And so he's like, we need to take this out. I'm like, no, I need that in there. No, Now, Like, how do you choose what to take out when you wrote it? It's like that must be so hard because it's like picking a child to get rid of. Yeah, I mean, that's like we're not at that stage yet of the record, which she's she's the good thing. But it's like we've got like we've got like twenty four different songs that we know at some point we're gonna have to be like because like me and Dan the other guitarists, we do like a bulk of the bulk of the writing, and we've got like lists of songs and I want every single one to be on the record, but it's just not so we're not there yet at the point where we're gonna have to chop it down. But I know it's gonna be tough.

18 I think that's why bands are doing things lately, like Slipknot did it. They released a song before the album, fucking badass song that I thought should have been on the album, and then and then Where'sn't I think it was even named something similar with the album, like there is a lyric game. I'm like, that makes no sense where it's like, well, now it's just a single. I think it's that. I think the music industry is in a weird place at the moment because I think the way in which we like absorb music as listeners now it's been Spotify and Apple Music and streaming services has changed so much that I feel like the attention span of the average listen is so much shorter. So yeah, it makes sense for bands to doing like more standalone singles than it does full albums. But I mean, we're all old boys now and we like albums. I do two man, it's a whole experience. Well, when we were growing up, you know, our favorite bands were always like they would drop one single or two at most, and then the album would come and then they'd be like, then you tore the album and then do all that stuff where it's like when we came and do our first record the label, we're like, oh no, we're gonna do six singles before the album even fucking comes out. I'll kind of sweat. I love sweat. Yeah, I'm sure fucking can. So it was like six tracks and we were like, oh right, okay. So then the album dropped, all the singles were already out, and it was like, so what do we do now? But luckily we just got on a bunch of good tours and stuff. And it's kind of weird to me

52 to your point of like, once all the singles drop, it's like I think, well, why do I need to listen to the album now I already heard it all. Yeah. I think the good thing about Happiness, I think is is the singles are all strong songs. But I think there's in my opinion, there's songs on there that could have easily have been singles too. So it's not like I think with some albums you get like four singles and then sort of some filler, whereas this one. I mean, I didn't write any of it. So this has not me being biased. So in my day, you bought an album because of how the album cover look because you had no way of knowing what any of it sounded like, especially if you're a metal head. Wasn't on the radio. Like every album I bought in teenage years, I had as zero clue how it's and what it sounded like. I just know the album cover was cool. Well, I think hows is pretty cool. Yeah, we've got we've got the guitarist Dan his dog on the cover wearing a party hat. That's that's the only thing on the cover. And the album is called Happiness, and ironically it's twelve really sad songs. I love that. See, that's brilliant, if you ask me, that's brilliant and like, I just want to see the expression on people's faces if they don't know the lyrics and they get the album just based on the title and then they're listening like, well this isn't very happy. Oh I love it. So anything else we want to tell the

28 listeners about that we haven't covered already. Nothing, We're good. I mean, I don't know where most of your listeners are based, but all over the world, any you know, Just the shows are coming up. Keep an eye out for the shows. We've got a tour in November Uktar, and we've got a couple of other tours hopefully in the works, and I not announced yet. Just keep an eye on Beauty School and just get listening. Get those players up on Spotify, and you guys should do like a promo. Okay, so like if you buy this, this, and this merch you get a gift certificate for to go get your hair done or some shit like, yeah, that's what we should do. Yeah my wife did this half of me as well. Nice. Yeah. I never did myself, like like how I always was like, how the hell am I going to do the blue back here? I won't even know what the hell I'm doing? O B. My neck will be blue. Yeah, yeah, well that's that's literally what happened to me. It's a screw a bit with like juicingcause all my skin was dyed at the back of my head and you know what else happens. Of course, you walk out there, like every festival I would do, I have to ask am I bleeding? I'd ask something, am I bleeding? If it was a hot festival, because you started sweating. And then I've been in interviews where like blue was dripping down my face and I didn't even know. Yeah, all of our all of like oh, pillows and bedling in at home. He's just oh, yeah, I'm Whenever I traveled, I brought my own pillow case and my own

00 towel. I had to be like black or dark blue or some shit like that. You know. Well, man is so cool. You're here at Download Festival twentieth anniversary. Badass. You guys are badass. And thanks for being on the Adventures of pint Man. Thank you so much. Thanks for having us. You got it. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of pint Man. Im W four CUI Radio
