04 Hey, you have until the censure. I'm se wow, crazy you why become America. It's time for the Adventures of White Man. I'll te you four see why don't call. West Palm Beach is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. What it is, but may this is how the world made me. The night comes to save me with the mercy of a dream because I can't only be damn it needs you.
06 This is the Pipe Man here on the Adventures pipe Man W four c Y Radio, and I'm here with Danny from Amigo the Devil as well as David Tally Carson care nice. So I thought you were going to say the dude that interrupts interviews, you know what I should have that was? That was classic though, Okay, well that's their fault, you know. And uh, it's so funny because you know, we're talking about the whole Dave grol thing, and then when you came up and I did look up for something, I'm like, oh shit, it's Dave Grohl and then I'm like, oh it's a mego. Yeah. They looked very interruptable. I know, it was fun. It was definitely fun. Actually, I don't mean that in a bad way either. That seemed like a rude thing to say.
52 I don't. They just seemed like good sports, is what I mean. That's the key, right, That what I mean, because sometimes they're not you know, not them, but people. Sometimes the interviewer is not the good sport. Like I think that shit's fun. I know you're a good sport because I've been knowing you now right, And some interviewers will be like pissed off that somebody energy, like that's fucking great ship right there? Well, you want the same boring fucking interview? Hey, how'd you get your band name? Now? Hey? So do you like playing music? So? Can you tell me what what do you got going on? Do you want to build a snow man? That would be a good interview question?
34 Not there? Okay, bye? So how about this? How many times does people ask you today? Oh? Is it hot here? Playing at Rockville? I'm not gonna lie to you. I think I've heard more people ask me are you dying? Right? Because of my physical appearance? I think it's just the heat in gerald because I don't have your physical appearance, and I would be dying to blame mine on half bloat from last night's debauchery. Oh tell them, that's what I want to hear in the interview. What was last night's debauchery. It's funny because it wasn't even that crazy, But there was just something about sitting in a bull, drinking hot for net and just not being okay, just not generally being okay that I woke up.
22 Oh all the steak we had just oh my god, it was just mountains of we We basically got a house rental close to here. I went to the public's and got a bunch of food. I snuck like ten pounds of chicken tenders before the meal because of me. You guys had some, don't judgement you guys enjoyed them. They had one, you had twenty. It depends on what you counted twenty. But you know, like, are they conjoined or small? I love his shirt, by the way, because you know what I'm gonna be seeing them in two weeks. Punk Rock Bowling say hi for me. That was one of the most fun tours we've ever been on. Really tell me about that. I want to hear that story.
06 Just generally that the energy was so high all the time off stage on stage, and you know when you have a band that has such high energy, especially as a support band for them, it generally goes one of two ways, where they either use up all their energy on stage and don't want to be bothered yeah otherwise, or they are genuinely bonkers and just exist on a realm that we can't understand, and we are lucky enough to be able to understand it, right. And I think they also were excited to have met their match nice because you know that I don't know when to shut my mouth, and they have kind of the same bubbly energy for the most part, and so when we met them, we were like, oh, you are the same as us, except they're like ten times better and more energetic than us, mostly well, mostly because they can move around and I walk around like a charcolidye shuffling for mushrooms in the dirt. Yes, you missed your calling exactly. Yeah, and you know, but on that note, you know what I do love is you get accepted into just about every genre there is because because like, you're not metal, you're not punk, but you belong here. You belong with metal heads, you belong with punks, but you belong with everybody else too. Well. I think you know, we talk about this all the time, and I genuinely believe that the spirit
41 of a genre isn't what it sounds like, you know, I yeah, just said it a couple twenty minutes ago. It isn't even people go like, it's an attitude, shut up, Shut the fuck up, it's not. It's not an attitude. Sometimes it's a bad attitude. Spirit of it, the spirit of what it is. And I don't think that any genre is defined by the worst attributes of it. For example, a lot of people, you know, you go down to that weird noise rock. Uh, I mean, we love it, but the depths of it, and it's a lot of the people that are just so hyper elitist that if you're not living in the worst conditions of it, then you aren't actually experiencing it, which is stupid, and it's like, what are you talking about.
30 Just shut the fuck up and listen to what the spirit of the general atmosphere of it is. You don't have to suffer the worst parts of something to genuinely be involved with it. Yeah, all that is is trying to bring everybody down with you. I don't want to sleep in fucking squat houses anymore. Right, you know, just because we used to doesn't mean I want to and doesn't mean I fucking have to. I'm getting very worked up over this. I gotta calm down. Well, if it makes you feel any better. Devin Townsend did a press conference at Hellfest a couple of years ago, and he was saying shit like I hate being on tour. Who the fuck wants to sit in a trailer and take a shit with a bunch of guys? Who wants to do this? Who wants to do that? It was saying all this stuff kind of on the same realm. Like he wasn't bitching, he was like being funny about it, but he was being true.
28 He was like, who really wants to be in that situation? You do it because you have to to get to a certain point sometimes. But that doesn't define, as you said, the genre. To me, what defines the genre is getting beyond that. Yeah, we're just like being cool exactly. Actually, I don't mean cool popularity. I mean cool. It's like being cool, being a cool person. That's it. That's it, Yeah, exactly. You were gonna say something before. I was just gonna say, like, with in the genre types of you know, like some of the heaviest things I've ever listened to. Definitely don't have double kick and definitely don't have like detuned guitar. It's just it's it's it is more of the spirit of it and what it means. Yeah, that's all I was gonna add to that, Yeah, exactly. And like I come from the time of the Gatekeepers and all the bullshit, and it's like, there's some of my favorite punk bands that I only got to see within the past several years because I was a long hair in the eighties and wasn't allowed to go to their fucking shows. You know what kind of shit is that? It's stupid. You like it, we'll go, but it's super stupid about it too. Was there was a small group of metal heads, a small group of punks back then. We both got our asses kicked by the Jocks band the fuck together. Like we're a whole community. That's why I love now, is we can be a whole community. It doesn't matter what genre you're
03 in, it doesn't matter what you play, what you do. Like you said, as long as you're cool. We did that joke earlier in the other interview where we were talking about Dave Grohl. That dude has no clue he's Dave grol I mean he does, but he doesn't. He's like just cool as shit. Yeah, you know. And that's the key that I find that with the icons, Like as an interviewer, I have three levels. You got the lower level that needs the press that are totally cool and they have no clue they're supposed to be assholes yet, and then you have the icons who have no idea there icons, so they're just totally cool. It's those middle ones that maybe got to this level and fell back down.
43 They're the ones that maybe aren't so cool. And then you have us down in pig Hollow, just swimming in our grease and filth. Well, I'm here to tell you as I've seen you so many times because I do all these festivals that the media people, all of them collectively, I think Amigo to Devil is like the coolest band at any of the festivals. That means the world of man and everybody's always been really kind us here and to speak on what we were just talking about. I think that's what makes these women festivals beautiful, is that they collectively make a comfortable environment where I genuinely feel like I can be my dumb ass self and any moment. That's the beauty of this band. The reason that this band worked so well in our little bubble is because I felt like I could be mount dumbass self around them, and you know, I could tell them to not be dumbasses. Do they listen? No, we are we doing our best. That's all we have.
50 It's our best. You know. It's so true though, to you gotta be yourself. Like if you're a musician, as me as somebody in the olia, I can tell who's going through the motions, I tell who's not being themselves, and then I could tell the people that are the true artists, like yourself, we love this. You're just up there having a fucking blast. I genuinely can tell you every single one of us loves this. If you're not, you're in the wrong business because there's nothing else good about it besides that. Okay, so if you're not having a fucking good time, ed, you need to go somewhere else because this business could suck at times, and the benefit is doing what you do and just having a fucking blast. I do want to say something real quick while it's on my mind about genre elitism because it's been a topic today and I think a lot of people don't speak enough about the genuine damage that is caused by people between gatekeeping, between popularity what do they call them, just basically, anytime that you diminish somebody's it, who is trying to get into something they didn't know existed because of elitism or gatekeeping. Any the time that you block somebody from entering a realm that they're discovering, you don't know how much you're taking away from something they may need in their life just because they didn't know it at
22 the same time you did. Just because they, you know, their gateway into it was a band more popular than you would like for them to be, doesn't mean that those kids aren't gonna end up finding songs that they need in their lives to become the people that they're gonna be. Love it. Gatekeeping isn't just restricting people from popularity or or restricting people from feeling cool and Okay, I genuinely believe it keeps people from songs that they need for their own well being and development. Yeah, And in that mode, we're in mental health Awareness month, and to me, music is the best therapy for you as the artist, for me as the listener. And to your point, you're keeping people from not you, but those gatekeepers are keeping people from the mental health that they need that music gives them, you know. For me, like being in a mash pit saves me from kicking somebody's ass, you know, because and so if you were to block me as some gatekeeper elitist, maybe I would be doing some harm out there in the real world.
37 Yeah. I remember when I was young how many times I was made fun of for the genres that I was kind of falling into because they were actually softer and more melodic than what my friends and I were normally listening to. Yeah, and I had to listen to it, you know, kind of hidden until it got to the point where I realized, I'll go about these people or what they think like it doesn't fucking matter. And if I hadn't had that moment, I know that I wouldn't have experienced any of the catharsists that I that I did. I would have never found the clarity that I did, and I would have always been stuck in a very hateful cycle of people who didn't give a shit about me. They just gave a shit about not caring about anything else. Yeah, totally, So I want to say fuck you. I love it. Interesting story for me with carry King playing tonight and Motley Crue playing here at Welcome to Rockville. So the first club show I ever went to in my life was Motley Crue before they even had an album, and that's what got me hooked into metal and music and everything else that I'm here with you today. Then I went to Slayers first show ever, and then my friend said, we need to burn all your Motley Crue shit. You can't be going to fucking Slayer shows and listening to Motley Crue and here they are both out of f today in my opinion, which it should be. And how stupid was that? Why can't I like what I like and like that too? Do you know where he lives?
09 Will be the crap out of I guess yeah, there's a lot of them. There's a lot of them. To say his name now, say his name outloud? Uh now? But and so yeah, to your point, like, that's why I love today, meaning twenty twenty four is as many problems as we have in the world. There are no outsiders at a Danny Wimmer festival. We're all insiders. That's the key right there. And look at the lineup at Welcome to Rockville. You know you wouldn't have this kind of line up back in the day. You wouldn't have Tech nine who loves metal. Or how about the fact. Do you know how many people I know that had no clue that ic Tea's a metal head and nobody knows about body count body counts so good too. I was just talking to about one of her shows at festival where Vincent Price is such a badass he fell off the stage, broke his leg and still kept playing. I would have ripped mine off and thrown in the crowd. There you go. I think somebody did something like that before. Okay, so I have a trivia question for you. Then I asked that last band. I normally don't ask the same trivia question, but since you interrupted that interview, I have to ask you it. And since we're taking Okay, so, who did lemmy date who used to be on stage and put shaving cream all over her breasts and she wasn't wearing a top so that the lights would melt it off, and she
44 ended up getting arrested all the time, like Jim Morrison. See I stumped. No, okay, I really tried with that one though. No, that was my favorite port start growing up. But that would be nice if it was Selia Wendy O Williams. Yeah that makes sense. Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than what we said. Well, I said choking, I remember, yeah, yeah, yeah, right. I feel really stupid now for not you should feel stupid. I do like how you you're a musician. You don't know everything about music? Enough about how about do you know why the seats are colored? I was gonna say, is it because is this so it looks more full? Yes? Okay, yes, Like if you saw that on TV, it looks like everybody who's in the crowd like they're all cheering for me, go to devil. They're all up there cheering a picture of that. But I'm gonna draw little faces, right and I'd be like we had thanks for everyone who came out. Now, did you drive on the speedway? Is that fun? Ish? So tempted to flip the van every time I see how steep that is? Wait, you know what I did last year? I asked Christine. I'm like, well, I can lose my media pass if and I have it again with me this year. If I take my skateboard and I go like ride the wall and she's like, yeah, I wouldn't do that. I did.
07 You're on scooter, did you really? Yeah? The scooters? The bird did? We have these little like motor scooters, And well, you guys weren't here. It was the last time I did the solo and I just I found a little little hill thing. I just mashed it down. I try to vomit, and immediately security was like, you're going to hell. You're done, You're finished here, get the fuck out. I was like, actually, you're done, buddy, and he fucking punched me in the face. And did you tell him? Listen, I'm the devil. Of course I'm going to Hell. To be honest, what actually happened? He yelled at me. I said, I'm so sorry. I packed up my scooter and I came back to the little trailer. There you go. You just packed up your scooter and you went home with you. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not that cool at all, packed up your ball and went on.
57 I'm not that cool at all. So what is the coolest thing for all of you? That ever happened to you in music? That's a joke. That's a joke. Is it really? It is Florida. They don't give a ship here, I know, but you know I'm from here. So it's like, it happened to me music. What's the coolest thing ever happened to you in music? It's such a cheap answer, but it's a real answer. Do it? You know what? I think it back, I wasn't going to be more general about it. For me personally, playing red Rocks nice, Yeah, playing red Rocks the Australian tour that I just did was highly rewarding, really cool. Highlight of my life. One of them Red Rocks was it didn't make sense. It didn't make sense. It didn't make sense. No, Red Rocks is very I don't know how to explain it. I don't know how to explain it. I can't wait for you to play with it. It's your answer to Okay, so we got two out of four? Is that all of your answers? Mine would be being asked to play bass for Meka the Devil. Oh my god, he's looking for a race, yo. Let's talk later. How about you?
26 I mean Red Rocks for sure, nice. I don't know. The only other thing I can say is just having arms and legs to play drums in general? Are you trying to pick on def Leppard? No, I would never I would never know that. Yeah, I was just they're taking the mic from there now. I'll tell you what though, I am ver I remember when that happened, and that is pretty freaking impressive because he's still a badass drummer. Man. Oh my god. Like it's like the soul surfer. I'm a surfer. She's a badass. How do you surf with one arm? Oh? Yeah, that's it. It's insane that I have a hard time doing with two arms. You know what, I've raised my bar for this year. I won't be impressed. And I see a one legged unicyclist, I think you should go for it. I got all right, let's see how badass you really are. You have a boggy knife. I was talking leg earlier, so this is gonna be really bad. But have you ever heard of that? Is like a sexual thing, Like there's women that cut off their legs for sex. I don't know it's for sex.
44 I thought it was like body this, No, but they do it. Yeah, it is for that, but they do it that and to have sex with somebody, oh, because of their body dys morphia. Oh shit, everybody's got shorter coming. Yeah. I hope you all are doing great out there. Follow your dreams, but make sure they're real ftw Oh yeah, is that how you're feeling? Is that how you used to feel and now you feel much better about it? There have been various iterations of that in my life. I can't always say that I know which one I'm feeling at that moment. Right now, he's feeling, he's feeling like I'm done when interviews, I'm tired, I'm ready to go. I've been saying be kind a lot today. I've been trying to not talk shit. I'm still talking shit instead talking shit. Why don't you tell everybody how they can reach out to you and their socials? Buy your merch, check out your tour day. It's all that good shit, all right? To be honest, just anything is always like slash the Medal the Devil, like our Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, The website is the Medo the deevil dot com. We try to keep it very very consistent and simple. I don't I don't post very much. I'm not a very social media geared per, not a TikToker.
02 I do some dancing. Can you do one for us? Now? Oh, I have been I've been dancing exactly. No, it's I don't know. I think we try to keep it light and concise and just the information is needed. But I think that's cool because you your music says it all. Bottom line. Thank you. You know you guys are badass. I'm so happy you were here at Rockville and I think everybody that has never heard you needs to check you out because I don't care what genre you like, you'll like them. He go to devil brother. I appreciate that well, I appreciate you being here, and thanks for being on the Adventures pipe Man. Always always an honor to be on here. So any final words from anybody, have the day you deserve. That's good words right there.
49 Well, you deserve the best day ever so and it is here at Welcome in Rockville. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man on w fur c u I Radio.
