“If there’s a plot line for this video, I wish someone would let me know,” laughs infamous New Wave icon JOSIE COTTON about her new video “TRICK OR TREAT” that co-stars Kevin Preston of Prima Donna and currently playing guitar in Green Day. Cohesive narrative or not, when Josie’s around, a storyline isn’t necessary. Concurs Kevin, “Playing dress up with Josie Cotton is always a blast…I got to be Frankenstein. Enough said!”

The Halloween-themed video for the ‘50s-style cover of Chuck Berry’s holiday classic stars the pair in different costumes (be sure to check out the extra pair of legs on Josie’s hot pink get up!) while they duet to the spooky tune. “Making the video was more like an insanely fun trainwreck, moving between worlds," she smirks. "And let’s face it, monsters are just better at parties.”

Filmed at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles, CA and directed by Kent Holmes, the video is the latest in a string of new music from the New Wave glitzy glamor queen.

02 Hi, you have done too? Yes, that's true. Se Wow for you you whoa? Whycoup America. It's time for the Adventures of white Man on W four c Y dot com. West pomp Beats is number one internet radio station. Here's your host, the White Man. Check a treat baby on a not like this, Check a treat whoa and that means a kiss? Check a treat baby and on that mean this the three kids from you on a not like this.

54 This is the pipe Man here on the Adventures of Pipe Man W four c Y Radio. And I'm here with one of my face guests, returning because of a really cool song. But she does a lot of cool stuff. So let's welcome to the show. Josie Kahin how are you, Hello? How are you? I'm doing amazing and man, it's good to talk to you again. And I am digging this song. And I have to tell you it's pretty funny because I listened to the song and watched the video first, then read about it later, and I'm so ashamed of myself that I didn't even realize it was a cover. That's how good it was. Yeah, it's a very it's a very obscure cover. I believe I'd never heard of it in my singing partner Kevin Preston, who I've done a few things with now, and he says, we have to do this song and he sent it to me, and I knew we would sound good on it, our voices together and whatnot, so so of course I'll do it.

54 And I forgot that he's in Green Day and. So it's a problem when you're trying to book things in secure dates and whatnot, because there was always a moment when he had to leave town. And it took a while to get this together. But I loved it. I knew, I knew, you know, it was something really fun for us to do. So of course I always say yes to Kevin. And the video is it's whole another animal. That's the best part about it, because I mean, like, you were so good when it comes to videos, and this is no exception.

37 Oh well, you're too kind. This is the one video I've done because there was so little time and we didn't even have time to do press photos for my press person who you know, and so yeah, so this was something without a plot to a treatment and just know we need to do something, and I had this crazy dress, the leg dress, and I've had this severed leg in the back of my trunk since another video I had done. I was like, well, let's just put that in the video too, and it will just be like ridiculous, and we succeeded. It is the craziest one I've done, I believe, But it turned out to be like the most fun because we just didn't have any idea what was happening. It was like usually you have Okay, this time, you're going to do this this, and it was just all just off the top of our heads, you know, in one evening. It was just a few hours we filmed it.

43 And I love that best though. It's just like you're just having a good time and it's fun and it's Halloween, so it should be fun and wacky anyway, it shouldn't. I think it should be so serious. Yes, I think. And sometimes you know, the best creation are just accidents, Like you didn't think of it. It just was an accident, yeah, exactly, and it just happened, and. So that was what was you know, going on, And as soon as they put on that dress, it just went off the rails of silly, you know. Oh god, Well, here's what I loved. Okay, So I'm so programmed now from watching Marvel movies to never ever turn the video off, leave the theater or anything else till it absolutely is the end, because you think it's the end and it's not. And you found the same thing in your video. And I want to find out, like a few months from now, I want to find out from people, how many people waited till the very end of the video in this short attention span society that we live in.

53 I even missed it. I didn't know he was gonna put that. Okay, that's I like get and then and that's one said, did you like the ending with the brain that Kevin is slapping like there's no tomorrow? And I didn't miss that, so it was just in the moment, and yeah, it's easy to miss and I and yes, I missed it also, so. Yeah, see I didn't because I'm programmed now. I'm like, I'm waiting. I get disappointed now if I watch a video or a movie and there isn't something after the credit. Oh really, Okay, well then you are more savvy than I because I don't always wait around. I'm actually leaving as the credits are going on.

41 I usually would be, but that's when you miss like the best parts of like Marvel movies. So now I'm programmed like, oh no, I can't leave yet. You know that is true the Marvel movies. Absolutely, yeah, so I understand I'll have to have to change my way of thinking it, I know. Right, So tell me what what you love about Halloween. What I love about it is the horror of it. And sure, I'm absolutely you know, just obsessed. And I've always loved science fiction and horror, and not in the like some of them like Saw you Can you know that kind of is not my cup of tea, or you know, some of the ones it's way too uh, you know, too scary. But with this, you know, it's just it's it's time you can dress up. I wish people would dress up all year round. I think that would be I think a lot of the world's problems would go away if we just all dressed like it was Halloween every day.

39 It would be so cool. That's why I love going to festivals and stuff, because people can just do that and nobody thinks anything of it, you know, And that's why I love about Halloween too. Same thing, and you do it great because like you have so many different costumes and you make them all look good. Well, you know, my whole my house is full of like the weirdest things. I think I scare certain people of the masks I have hanging around, but I'm seen to be. Able to recycle them, which is nice. You know. The only other time I've had that feeling of wanting to dress up all the time is when I the one time I went to Burning Man and. And I actually loved that experience.

23 It's just costumes in uh, you know, not so much horror, but I'm just I'm someone who is in that camp of just loving to be scared, and I especially really stupid horror movies like basket Case, for instance. It was one of my favorites and ones that are ridiculous comedy horror. I guess you would call it that. So that's a little bit of what we did in this. Yeah, so you know, that was something. I'm happy it's over though it was it was so chaotic and I didn't even know if Kevin was going to make it back in town, and we had to do it like weeks later than we're too. So I'm happy that people laugh when they see this this video.

04 That's fun That was my goal. That's why it should be. You know, it's funny. If I even go to like haunted houses, I'm laughing when they're trying to scare me. Like I I think a lot of it's funny. First. You're right, there's certain things like, yeah, that's that's a little bit too much. That's to me, that's not horror. Horror does have an element of comedy to it in my opinion. Yeah, look at the original ones, you know, yeah, well Frankenstein. Like, to me, that had an element of humor to it. I mean, how great was Kevin playing Frankenstein. Oh awesome, that's the point, you know, Like, to me, those are the favorite types of Frankenstein's too, because, like I even think back, you had like Abbit and Costello meet Frankenstein and stuff like that, and to me, that was the best horror stuff because it had that element humor in And yes, yes, he killed it as Frankenstein.

03 The thing with Kevin was there was no rehearsal at all, and he just started pulling out all these Frankenstein moves. Nice. It was so crazy to watch him. I didn't know he had that we just you know, it was just random. But he was a. Child after when he was eight years old, he was on TV and whatnot, so he committed to that character like I've never really seen before, and that was making me. Laugh so hard that I could barely get through. I get thinking and tell I'm laughing. I'm like completely cracking up. At points, I couldn't go on. It was like this is too funny, and they would have to like refilm it and all this stuff, and you know, now I know how exactly how it should go, but then all the spontaneity and all the accidents would be gone.

54 Yeah, no, you need the spontaneity. To me, when I see people in a video on stage or anything like that and they lose character and start laughing, then I know they're just having a good time. And to me, that's the best part. Yeah. I mean, that's really my favorite part of this whole video. And I hope I never do it again. Though. It's just like, oh. Dear, we need a little more, just a little more reality around me. But this was really fun. You know. The thing was I had just some friends come in who were the extras, and none of them could could do it very well, and it was it was just a train wreck. I think I said that in a little press thing, and it really was a hilarious train wreck to me.

48 Listen, I think we live in a society that people love to watch train wrecks anyway, so might as well make one the funny. They do like it, they just don't want to be in. One exactly exactly, you know. But what's interesting about this song, though it was from nineteen sixty three, I was trying to research it a little bit as i'd never heard it, is this actually Chuck Berry's wife singing the original duet really with him. It's the only duet he ever he ever did, and I'm pretty sure it was such a kind of a dumb song. Was like it's you know, it won't be remembered very long, but the way they sang together it was so cute. So I'm not really promoting myself very well.

34 So you know, well, you guys nailed it. So maybe what it takes is a train wreck, that's a dumb song, and that let's make it and that makes it fun. Well, then the bar just got lowered. Way I can do that, Let's see. But you guys did kill it, and I actually like, I never heard of the song, so that I dig too. I dig if somebody does a cover of a song that nobody knows it's a cover, because then you can kind of like look at it from original eye, as opposed to a lot of covers. You're whoever's listening is like comparing, well, that doesn't sound the same as this or or what have you. So I think it's a smart idea, to be honest, Well, I.

21 Think if somebody really changes the song, I enjoy it much more because if it's if it's kind of the same, it's never going to be as good. No, there's just no way it can be as good. So the idea of completely reindrinking the song, I like, there reminds of the song Don't Look in the Basement, and this one artist redid it and it was just it was so amazing, you know how it was it didn't sound like the same song, So you know. But having said that, I'm getting ready to record Funnel of Love wanted Jackson's song nice about how I would want to change that. It's just so priceless and beautiful. But I am going to be recording it because I love singing it and I've been started doing it in my live shows and I think everyone has done that song and I don't care.

13 It's just well, there you go. Well I think you're going to do a killer, whether you change it or not. Tell everybody how they can get trick or Treat. Check it out. Check out the video, check out the audio, all that good stuff. Yeah, the video is on YouTube, just. Josie Cotton slash Trick or Treat or something's that effect. And it's just it's on all the platforms. It's it's everywhere. It's it's on my website Josiecutton dot com and and just wherever you find any kind of music. I mean, it doesn't there's no really stores anymore, right, there's no record stores. Yeah, no, not like the old days. Like I keep going by Tower Records looking for it. It's not in there.

56 Yeah, I know. I used to live right there. That's only to my nose. The only one left is in Tokyo. Really, it's a fine. Story building and it's it's a giant structure. And they don't buy LPs over there. They just buy CDs, which is very interesting to me. I don't know at least they have something they can hold. There. It is there, it is. It's something you can hold and look at and read. You know, the lyrics if it's they're tiny enough. And yeah, so we're in another time and for. Sure, Well, they need to get all of your reissues of your music on Kitt and Robot Records.

38 Yes, that would be great. You should tell them. Yeah, that's what I'm telling them right now, right now, they need to go to Kitt and Robots Records and get every reissue of your albums because I think it's better. I think it's better now than was that. Well, that's a true statement. Yes it is. Im putting out My second record was never put on vinyl, so I'm getting ready to do that with a bonus song. We always try and. Do that and nice. Two other records never got put on vinyl. So that's happening at some point during the year. And then I'm starting on a new record at the beginning of the year, and we'll see what direction I go.

21 I just that's amazing. I love that you're coming out with new music. I love trick or treat everybody's got check out all of your old music, all of your new music check out Kit and Robot Records and Josie, you rock. Thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Main.
