04 Hey you love, don't you? Yes, that's true. Fore wow crazy young. This is the pipe man here on the Avengers pipe Man W four c Y radio, and I'm here with. I'm a christoph Lyme. I'm the best friend of a guitar playing dragon. If you huffy off the band heavy is also heavy saurus. You want to pronounce it like. That, So I have a question. You just pronounced it two different ways. Is won the Germans Way and won the English Way. Okay, here's some context. Heavy's Always is a band comprised of four dinosaurs and one dragon, right, and they play metal for children on the and those people that are running after them all the time. And Heavy's also will play the Vuking Open Air this weekend on the main stage on the l Saturday eleven thirty, and the promoters put out an invitation to all the kids from the villagers around, but there will be probably thirty forty thousand non kids as well. And that band started in Finland and it's pronounced differently there as well. But my finish is not to speak of and Lufy Luffy my friend wink Wink is in the German version, so I say heap these hours. But the English pronunciation would be heavy.
34 Source. Yeah, that's what I thought it was. So that's why I always ask bands like tell me your band name, because i'll fuck it up. Well, if the band goes to eat speaking countries, let's say plot Stock next week, oh. There will be well pronounce heavy. So it's all good as long as the kids having fun, the small kids and the big kids. So I gotta tell you like you and I were talking before the festival and then I went to pick up my credentials and I saw your band, your best friend's band, like promoted everywhere, like are you the Vocking?
20 Are they the Vocking house band? Not yet, but we played last year on a head being a stage like the number four stage, fourth biggest, and I think everyone was surprised how many people turn out in a little bit of rain. Nonetheless, about thirty thirty five thousand people on the morning. There was big fun. So we got invited back. And the house band not quite yet, but I mean, come on for dinosaurs and the dragon, that's something to look at. And I think the manager know some people or had a good argument why boy was allowed to plass her uh vantage, but hey, come on, you got to get the message across, and it's it's fun.
05 Basically, it's all good fun. So how do you become friends with a dinosaur or a dragon? Because I don't know, I'd be pretty scared to be friendly with either one of those. Okay, this is UH. There's this bunch of Finnish metal musicians from a band called Thunderstone and they've been active I don't know in the early two thousands mainly, and they they had kids, and I thought about how to, uh, to show the kids the thing that I love most, which is rock and metal and you want to play them some stuff, but probably not I don't know, extra aggression by creator or something. So I thought, hey, let's let's do a kids version of metal and well, let's give it some extra what is cool? And about ten seconds later one of the guys said, dinosaurs.
53 Now, if we'll listen to our love dinosaurs. See if we'll listen to our in a five year old, what's cooled? Dinosa. All's race, cart drivers, cowers, indians, astronauts, but dinosaurs is among that list. So they started it in Finland and then it came to Germany nine years ago. Wow, and I got a call, you want to be friends with the guitar playing dinosaur. He needs a tech So I became friends wink wink with if you have you that's a character. So why why No? It is off stage as friends. What do you do with a dinosaur or a dragon?
35 Oh, he's a he's a cutie most of the time. But you know guitarists, they're fiddling around all the time, vivily villy, and he's a he's a he's a poster in a goatway like the Paul Stanley posing goat way. Now you know, you know, all right, So he's a little bit of a rock star, but he's a. He's a cutie. And so is there anything you guys do, like for hobbies together outside of playing music? Oh? Yeah, the. I think if you're the dragon, well, he has to keep his fire breathing in check because of all the fire marshal regulations.
16 It's kind of difficult. So he's training that. There's a female keyboard player a Central Saurs called Millipilli, and she's the tech. Wizard of the crew. Is she hot? I don't know your type yet, but you will see on Saturday. Well, she's gotta be hot. If the dragon breathes fire on her. Oh well, the thing is though, sixty five million years ago there were five eggs underneath the Magic Mountain in Finland, all right, and then that asteroid came down in Mexico wiped out all the dinosaur populations, but the five ex survived. Wow, And there was the band The Dragon for dinosaurs. They're basically siblings. That's not the question, No, seriously, the story.
09 The story is fun and the kids, the kids love it of course, like all kids do. And the band is a proper live band. It's a professional musicians from some bands in Germany actually well known. You probably know Gammer Ray. Yeah. Yeah. The singer is a. Best friend of mister Harry Source the t Rex with the mic and it's it's a proper live band. And it kind of started with a couple of shows here and there and people like can you can you can you get kids to like heavy metal? And it's like it's Maiden ish, it's not Cannibal Corps or anything May Metallica. And it grew and grew and grew because parents are happy that their kids getting into that with the stuff we like since we're fifteen years old, which is live music, it's it's a cultural value and some metal metal pair parents want to get their kids to the good stuff, and some parents just go with their kids because uh, it's a it's a big rock show. But it's not only for kids. It's proper music, like only lyrics and a presentation of differently. That's why we could play Vakan well.
15 And as somebody as grandkids, then I could bring them to festivals with me because they would love the dinosaurs and the dragons. See and that there will be there will be kids on Saturday for the Some some people from the villages say there are kids on the grounds, but they're rules of course, and it's all good. Kids younger than six cannot cannot enter the infield. It's it's too rowdy, I mean, but when we're playing they can for two or three hours, and yeah, there will there will be fun. And usually we try to have a special area in front of the stage so the kids are amongst themselves nice and none of us long people are standing right, so they only see asses all the time right before them.
01 So when you're watching from like side stage while they're performing, what are the looks that you see on the kids' faces during the set. Okay, here's the thing. You know, kids, if they like something, they like it right away and they show it right away. We're old fox right, we have seen it billion of shows and we probably go, yeah, le's to Wars better. I like them better on the first record. So the kids, if they like it, they go for it, and you hear it and you see it, and it's really cute if they am sorting their little fingers for the horns. And the third album is called Pomas Garbele, which is the German word for the horns. It's like fries fork basically.
44 Oh wow, that's the word. And having having a bunch of three to twelve year olds sorting their fingers and doing doing the horns and then keeping them up in the air. It's really good fun. And if we play if you play a rowdy song, they jump pretty much. We do, or we did before the back. Hurt or before we were told we're too old for that. You're never too old, that's my point. Oh, we know it, we know it. But kids, kids. The direction of kids is very direct and that's fun. But usually the parents know the lyrics quite well. I'm not sure if it's always voluntarily uh, and so this sing along, like I said, it's it's proper rock and metal songs. You can check it out everyone on Spotify and YouTube and whatnot. But the stories are are for children that dinosaurs tell about the adventures in the world, or they have some messages like you pretty much a metal message. You got to stick together and if you if your fellow, if your friend falls down in a mosh pit on in the playground, you pick them up. And there's some songs about the dinosaurs singing, singing, how cool they are. But me, no, I haven't done anything different for.
59 Years, right exactly. So that's the fun of it. So have you ever had guar invade your set and try to eat you guys? Ah? No, that could be fun. If I can choose a band with a masquerade, I will be kissed. I would ask Jeane, Okay, you're retired, now, can I get your flying rick? You don't need it anymore. I need a flying rick. But will be fun? I mean, you can't do kids and kids with scream. I saw shows in the nineties, the bloody stuff. That will be fun, But no.
39 They haven't, thank God. Yeah, that's a good thing too, because guar isn't really for kids. You know, blowthar has four penises. I don't think we need kids seeing that. Yeah, but but what we do with heavy sorrows? Of course on there's no cussing on stage. Nice. There's some jokes that I kind of catered to the parents. They're harmless for the kids, yes, and their parents go like ah, But of course we are not cussing the target audience. A target audience. The audience we see is three to eleven plus the parents and the older siblings. I love that. It's a weird thing. I always keep saying to myself, wake can app can end up after thirty years in metal. But it's good fun playing.
20 Some of the guys who played the guitar solos on the records are or have been with Megadeath or Night Wish. She played some stuff so Riffy Ruffy and me, we're having fun with it. It's good stuff. But the presentation of target audience is different. So I guess the lead singer could never play the drums because the arms are too short. Right, Oh, you know your way around paleontology? Is that the right word? Okay? But the dinosaurs were in X underneath a Mountain, Finland for sixty five million years.
01 I think evolution kind of work still worked its magic. So the front men, mister Heavies Howels has long arms. He needs to hold his his mic. Oh yeah, thank god. So and I want to know, like, and people probably want to know, how do they play the instruments if they don't have like human hands and all and uh, you know everything that we use as human. Good point, that's it. That's the weird thing if you if you look at pictures to have dinosaur claws right fall fingers. Yeah, I mean it's not enough, but if you see live videos, it looks just like human hand in green.
42 It's weird, isn't it? Wow? Are they're not like reptilians? Are they? We get asked by kids all the time that if there's some little meet and greets where the kids can take photos, they are so curious and then no stuff. Those little kids know stuff and they keep asking biology stuff. Are you reptilians? Are you? Do you get cold like like a reptile? And you see like five people going how I said twenty years ago biology class. I can't remember. That's cute. And I read stuff that that kids actually there's a there's a statistic. I'm not sure if it's one hundred percent verified. Kids that are into dinosaurs are smarter.
29 I mean that makes sense because adults aren't smarter nowadays, so we need the dinosaurs. We need the dinosaurs. Yeah, it's actually it's actually good fun. And I like the thought that there are some kids that have their first concert experience with a band like that. Imagine some kid in twenty years time they have a band and again asked. How what was your what was your first concert? And they go like, how way back my parents would do that show. That was so funny. But I love the drum so that's why I played drums and we get that at the meet and greets. Yeah, I'm I wanted to have a drum kit for Christmas because I like compy mompy visa drummer. And a year later I come up, yeah, I learned to play one of your songs and that's awesome. I like that, plus having kids being brought to the thing we love, like live music, like proper muse. I don't care if it's if it's if it's freaking reggae or metal, it's proper music.
27 And a kid at a concert. A kid at a concert can look wherever it wants to look. Yeah, if they experience live music via TikTok, they look where the camera is pointed to. Yeah, thirty seconds. Yeah, and then I don't know. My first concert, your first concert, you're in a crowd, it's dark and it's loud. It's a communal experience. And there's there's studies about that too, singing together as a psychological effect. I like the fact that some kids get that from from us for the first time. That's pretty cool. And you know, I was thinking, I didn't know that dinosaurs and dragons got along. Yeah, that's a that's the thing that's that's kind of a mystery because there are even some people that say they are no dragons, which is obviously wrong, right right, And that's a question and a good message too, whether they get along. But then again, you have a Stegosaurus on bass, you have an Aparto Saorrows on drums, Center Saorrows on keyboards, and a t Rex on the vocals, So they're not they're not the same.
31 And they don't get along in the wild usually, So I didn't. Get along in the wild, or that didn't even meet in the wild. There's a couple of million years in between, but. Don't tell anybody. Yeah exactly. But when they when they when the when the X hatched, there were siblings and they got along with the en Siblings fight and siblings make up, right, And that's a good that's actually good message for kids who have to keep the message simple, like we're different. My buddy's a dragon, I still like him. That's that's what that's what the thing I always says. Well, I can't tend to think the way the world is right now that maybe dragons and ninosaurs are better than human beings anyway, Oh that.
14 Could be, that could be. I mean, if we start talking about the way of the world these days, we've got to get some beer. Who comes down. At least these five get along fine, and they are different, and uh, there's there's there's some comics, there's a movie, there's some audio books. By now I'm excited. And there's some quarrels amongst them, of course. I mean, one guy's always fighting when he's scared. I mean, that's that doesn't make up for good atmosphere. And the dobos quite literally no, so is. It because they're in Germany and you're getting off the exit and says Ashphart that they think they're supposed to fart.
58 No, that they know they their way around Germany. I mean that band is actually playing this year. It's two hundred and nine shows. Wow. Wow, that's a lot. That's a lot of shows and a lot of fun. I didn't know dinosaurs and dragons worked that hard. That's a lot of work. It's a management. Yeah, you're like the management's like a slave driver whip. Totally. I mean like when the band is having fun, they get pushed around. I know a story about Motleyku the last show off the Doctor Fieldgo tour. In eighty nine or ninety ish. They skipped like five songs and Tom Lee said before the last Simple Crush faded away was in a limo to the airport.
42 It's not that howard have you sor it's fun. And there's one thing that all us grown up rockers might even get used to. If you play for kids, you play in the afternoon. Yeah, so when my friends and other bands, or if I play another bands go to sound check, I'm out of the shower and hitting catering. Yeah, so that's actually you can get used to it. It's pretty cool, absolutely, So I really want to know. How did the dinosaurs and the dragon get into metal? Oh there's a story too. There's a story too on the first album in Germany, so there's a little audiobook thing. Well, they were underneath that mountain right for millions of years. And there's a witch in Finland called Upolina, and one one starry night, a night with thunderstorms and stuff, she made the mountain burst open and made the eggs crack, and she took them in.
47 And it happens that she liked metal. She played flying ve guitar, had all that collectible stuff all us nerd nerds have on on our walls, and she showed to the. Band what's what? Wow? And in a movie there can even be seen ending up in some music store guitarsaras, toys, erras, go for it. I love it, you know. And I've taken my kids at shows into a marsh pit. Okay, do are there any like dinosaur marsh pits? Okay, holl the way, how old were your kids?
29 My grandkids anywhere from like. Eight to eleven? And the mosh pits not you know, not the ones like the bad ones, but like in the back, and then there'd be some adults that would be like being cool and like pushing them around very softly. Yeah, they get good fun. Yeah, they could experience the marsh pit without getting hurt. Oh, that's that's pretty cool. As fas as Heavy's all shows go the mush it is. There's not a mushpit, of course, but there's a joke about this thing. I wanted, wanting to explain mosh pits and circle pits and stage times and all the other dinosaurs go like no, no, no, no no. But but the kids, the kids are active.
13 If you go to kindergarten and look at them when they get out to play, they're running circles, tell loud as fuck. Yeah can I can I cuss? You can say whatever? Okay, there loud as hell in kindergarten. They're running circles, they stream, they're having fun. And that happens at shows two and they basically jumping is a big thing. It looks like a popcorn machine. Yeah, so you get them the jump totally. Totally, totally, and there's some songs. Well we know it's going to happen. We kind of do the moves and they follow suit. Right away, right away. You know, I came up with an idea. You guys can do that. They'll teach them how to circle pit is have them play the game, you know, the game where the kids run around the seats and then when the music stops, they sit down.
02 That's that's actually a good idea. It's called stop tons in Germany stop dance. Although the one with the musical chairs, yes, yeah, we thought about that would be a good idea. You can have you can have chairs in the concert hall, but a version of that would be cool. And they just sit down on the ground. Sit down on the ground. And that's one thing that you notice when you play for kids. They directions direct But if they're bored, like I don't know, the bass is gone and you have to wait ten ten minutes, we would hit the beer stand right the kids get bored, they play something else and they're gone. We have to keep them. You have to keep them engaged all the time. That's why I think that's a good idea. Just keep them doing.
43 It's actually a good idea. We will have to take note of that, but you have to. There's there's a lot of If we go to see Metallica, it might happen at Hatfield goes after three songs, Hey boss, and how are you doing? We wouldn't do that. You have to talk to the kids, explain stuff, engage them, Doorytel. Yes, there's a lot of storytelling. There's a lot of little skits and stuff, a lot of jokes, and they love it. Have you ever had a special appearance from Barney? Are you talking about the Napalm death guy? No, not that Barney. That would be cool. I don't know if you had it over here in Germany, but there used to be the popular TV show Barney and he was Barney the Dinosaur.
30 Oh I heard about that. I heard about that. Yeah, yeah, I read it somewhere. No, that would be cool. Crossover. First time we set foot to. North America, we got to call us management right totally. Because I mean, like they already love Barney, So now that you're in in America, you're. The ideas guy, the ideas guy. I love it. I love it. We had some guests. We had do you know jum Benz Tattoo, mortis now and fucking two like folk metal number one in Germany. Even we had their singer Ale on stage and he's here so you never know what happens. Oh boy, So there's surprises for the kids too, right.
12 Totally that that's that one's more for the for the grown ups. So why do you can? I want to know because I wasn't able to ever see what happens in person? What do the kids really think about the whole thing? Like? Are they super excited? Is it like the time and their life? Yeah? There, they are super excited. On the meet and greets, they jump, they jump out of excitement. Some some little ones are scared because the dare say the word. The costumes are big and green and look weird. Actually that look pretty cool, but the ice don't blink stuff like that, and little kids pick up on that and they get scared. But mostly they excited and they excited there's something for them, and ask all the questions all the time.
01 The question is isn't metal to energetic for kids? And we're like no, wow, look at the kids at the kindergarten again. Yeah, right, there's a lot of expression in what they are doing, all the expression what metal bands are doing. So that's fine. So they get excited and they show it. Well, I think metal keeps us adult like kids totally. I appreciate it very much. See so how do people find out more about heavy source and and find out, you know, get the albums, get the merge, see where you're playing next, like you're gonna be a heavy Soros will be a bloodstock next week?
41 And yeah, so how they find out all this? I would suggest to get an impression. H fire up YouTube and put in heavy sorrows like the word heavy and zoos sorrows saurus like dinosaur with the US at the Yeah, yeah, heavy saurus and you will see a lot of live shows, some trailers and stuff, and of course it's on Spotify. There's a German version and the Finnish version and some English stuff too. Yeah, look for the English version. There's a I think two songs. One is Raise your Horns. It's a it's a that's where you explained the little finger first and the indix finger goes like this no, and that's a very cool guitar solo.
26 Love it. And there's a song called Patty Scott Bubblegum and that's that's the hit so to speak. That's if you ask the kids what's her favorite songs. Some of the story is someone has twenty six bubble gums and the bubble gets so big she can fly all. Around the world. Wow. So but it's a cool driving drop the riffing guitar song and that's an English too. You can check it out Patty Scott bubble Gum. I love it. Well. I'm looking forward to you here at Vakin and that Bloodstock because I'll be there too. Very cool. And man, what an amazing band. You have your friends with them too, So that's cool.
06 Okay. You see, I never thought I would be friends with dinosaurs and a dragon. I'll tell you what I think. I want to trade in some of the people I know for dinosaurs and dragon. They might be better friends. They actually that nice, they'd nice friends. That's great. And is there anything else you want to let the audience know that we haven't covered already. I'm quite sure that the band and as US crew guys are very thankful for being able to play two hundred shows this year. The album went to number nine in the German album charts. Wow, we're talking the. Real charts with Metallica and Lady Gaga in it and stuff. Nice. That was like what so there was nice?
49 And I like the fact that the grown ups can look past the one target audience because it's actually great music. I have fun playing it well. I think the kids are gonna have a lot of fun here at Baking the kids in the UK you'll have a lot of fun at Bloodstock. And I'm thankful for your band that you know that they are doing this for the kids, because I think we need to keep metal alive and how you do that through the kids, because metal we are one big family, and I think if we want to solve all the world's problems, we need metal dinosaurs and a dragon.
38 Oh that's a good quote. And actually with fucking you right, and the spirit of this festival that's grown up from basically nothing, some of those values that. Are that that that are in. The metal scene in general. What's solve a couple of these problems. I mean, it's it's pretty basic. If the guy next to me falls down, pick him up, and I don't give a shit if the guys the guys in the tent next to me are black, are green. As long as they have beer. Left there you go. That's the important part. And I thank you for being here. I know they would have liked to be here, but I was a little scared they might eat my microphones because it's late and they're hungry.
23 What happened. No, they're nice. They're actually very sleepy at that time of night. Yeah, so there you go. And uh, they want to get out of the rain, so and we don't want him getting sick before they're. Set either for the big show. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Important day. Important day. Well, it's important day because that's the best band of all of vaking. Yeah, that's what they keep telling me all the time as well. Weird. Thanks for a time man. Thanks for being on the Adventures of pipe Man Cool. Thank you see un. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipement on w for CUI Radio.
