The conversation focused on the band Minotaurus’s experience performing for the first time at the renowned Wacken Open Air festival. The discussion explored the band’s decades-long journey in metal, their reflections on performing at a dream venue, the sense of community at major festivals, the quirks of international festival food, and the importance of authenticity in both life and music.Main Topics Covered

- A key theme that emerged was the emotional impact of playing at Wacken, described as the "holy ground" of metal and a dream stage for every metal band. The band expressed their amazement, describing the moment as surreal, filled with adrenaline, and like living a personal “movie” on stage 01:09, 06:38.
- The discussion explored the roots of Minotaurus, highlighting their beginnings as passionate heavy metal fans who wanted to create original music rather than play covers. One concept discussed was that creating original music represents "the king’s level" of artistry, allowing musicians to share their own beliefs and stories with others 04:47, 05:05.
- Several points were raised, including the acknowledgment that most artists feel nervous before performing, but once on stage, those nerves transform. This aspect of performance was compared to “a switch” flipping, allowing artists to enter their own worlds 07:31.
- Minotaurus members emphasized that musicians are real, regular people, and that performing is both a personal and communal therapy 08:12.
- The conversation focused on comparisons between festival food in Germany and the US, with Wacken praised for offering genuinely delicious German food. Amusing anecdotes about unusual American festival foods—like donut burgers, chocolate-covered bacon, and the controversial pineapple pizza—offered light-hearted moments 14:27, 15:28.
- An insightful moment arose regarding "Pizza Hawaii," revealing its existence in Germany and the myth of its origin 16:32.
- The similarities in the members’ names (multiple Olivers) led to recurring confusion and playful banter, including a running joke about recruiting only members named Oliver 11:01.
- The prospect of a joint tour with Heavy Saurus, another festival band with a name-ending “-saurus,” was proposed for comedic effect, suggesting a fun and theatrical collaboration 05:32.
- A key theme that emerged was Minotaurus’s intention to transport audiences into different worlds through storytelling in their music, valuing the connection made when fans genuinely feel their songs 09:37.
- Final messages emphasized positivity, self-expression, and the importance of enjoying life and music 21:38, 22:08.
- “It was like a dream, right? But a good dream.” 02:43
- “We play our music nearly since 34 years.” 02:48
- “Original is the most time is better...because it’s your words, your thoughts, your beliefs.” 04:39
- "To find people, they take your lyrics and take your music and feel it and dream your dream. It’s the highest level what’s possible." 04:56
- “Musicians are people.” 21:41
- “Enjoy your life. Be yourself and listen to Minotaurus.” 22:08

0:04 Hi, you love done to censure? Wow? For you your it's the pipe man here on the Inventure's Pipe Man W four c Y Radio and I'm here with Olive and the other Oliver Oliver Clary. Nice. Yeah, you're at fucking yes, first time, first time? You're a virgin? Are you a virgin? Are you a virgin? I don't want to talk about this.
0:47 Deny till you die. So you guys just played an awesome set here at the freaking Holy Ground. Yes? Are you still kind of high over it? Like are you still under the ether where you're like, oh my god, I just played Vakin. It's always incredible to think about to play in Vaking because it's it's not only the Holy Ground, it's the top of the top. So it was a dream for every metal band and we played it. You did it, We did it. You know. Same in the States, like we all know this is the festival. Like when my other media friends that I do with the States, they know I come to Europe, but when they heard I was doing Vaking, they were pretty freaking jealous because it is an honor to be here. Yes, and it lives up to the expectation, doesn't it, Like I didn't know what to expect when I came here.
1:54 I knew it was the biggest in the world. I knew it was the holy Ground, but I do Hellfets every year. I'm like, it can't be much better than Helfest. Oh my god, Like, I haven't even seen the whole place yet and I've been here for four days. It's just massive and the crowd, Like, tell me about the crowd for your set, how it felt from your perspective looking out at the crowd. You mean the time when we played? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, when we played, it's the biggest thing I ever saw. And it's I have goosebumps when I, uh when I went to the stage, and uh, it was It wasn't critically it was like a dream, right, but a good dream, the best ever. Yes, And it's we play. We play our music nearly since thirty four years.
2:59 To keep thirty four years, to get to the thirty fifth anniversary of VAKIN. That's incredible. Huh, that is amazing. Yeah, I think you can retire now. Yeah, but don't. But don't retire. Yeah, no, you need to play. It's not the plan. You gotta go to the next stage at vak and that's the next goal. We hope we show the audience today we are still alive and our plan means go on. Yes, absolutely, So tell me how this all started thirty four years ago. Oh okay, that's that's a long, slowly story. No, no, it's okay.
3:44 I tried to be shot. It was a dream from heavy metal fans to start a band, and we we live the music and we say, okay, we try to make a band too, because it's very cool to be a rockstar. And when you are young, you dream from every big stage and from from the honor of the people when they're listening to your music. And so we start to to make own stuff because to cover was a little bit difficult to find the big stages. Well, not only that, like if you're playing a cover song, no people are comparing you. If you have original music, there's nothing compare to No, and you'll never live up to the original, no matter who you are, unless your Metallica.
4:35 The most time, it's not necessary, right exactly, you know the original is the most time it's better. Well, because it's your words, your thoughts, your beliefs. I think it's it's it's it's the King's the King's level to make own music. Yeah, to find people they. Take your lyrics and take your music and feel it and dream your dream. It's it's the highest level. What's possible. That's right now that you've played Voacan and another band played Voking, I think there's two bands from Vodkin this year that need to go on tour together, and that's you and Heavy Sourus because you both got the saurus in there.
5:28 Actually, it could work, It could it could work. And how cool would it be too? If you like we're both on stage. Yeah, just imagine you see the dinosaurs and next to them the minor taurus. Yeah, they could hack, they could fight. It would be so fun. I would love it, Oh my god. So I'm putting it out there. And Okay, I interviewed them, and I know who one of the guys is. He's over there all the time, and I'm gonna go over the okay to say, you know, you need to go on tour with them? Yeah? Right, They would be funny as hell.
6:09 No that I bet it would be a good tour too. People would be so entertained by that. Yeah, you know, by the funny things and then the serious things in combination together. Yeah, you know, that's the way it should be. And then Gwora invades and destroys y'all. Yeah, world ender, I know right. Oh my god. So what how did you feel up there on stage? Wow? The thing is, the adrenaline went high level since one week ago and since when I took the first step to the mic. It was like washed away. Yep, it was just my own movie. I saw the people down there, I saw they having fun, I saw us having fun.
7:04 I felt the music, I felt the spirit, and it was just awesome, like a dream come true. It's so true what you're saying, too, because I experience it too. Like many people don't realize. Most artists are nervous till they get on stage, no matter what show it is. But as soon as it starts, there's a switch. Yeah, and you go into this zone. Same with me, Like as soon as that MIC's on, there's a switch in my brain. You know. There's a lot of times of interviews, like they're reviewed some big people, and it's like before I get on, I'm like in my head, Okay, what am I going to say? I don't want to look at little stupid blah blah blah blah blah, and then as soon as the MIC's on, they're in my world.
7:51 That's the difference. I'm no longer in their world. They're in my world, and I don't even think about it, and like you said, it just washes away, you know. And I like telling people that because they think artists are these like extreme extroverts, and it's the exact opposite, right, you know, And I think they need to understand that you're just real people. You're just normal, real people, you know, and a lot don't understand it. You know. When I see artists back here, I don't care who they are. They're just another person. In fact, a lot of them, even the ones I'm friends with, I don't even recognize them. Sometimes, Like if they're out in the crowd, they'll come up to me and they'll be, hey, what's up, pipe man.
8:35 I look at them, I'm like, fuck, who was that, you know, because there is a different look, or like some of my friends I've seen and that are friends of mine now, but before they were friends and they get off stage, I'm like, boy, I didn't know they were that short. And I can say that because I'm short, you know, But it looks so different when you're looking up there, you know, and they're so made that I can mention that it's like, oh my god, I we've never thought you know. So I think it's important for people to understand that you're just real people, normal people doing what you love. Right. Everyone is just playing a. Role exactly exactly, And music's the best therapy there is. Yeah.
9:20 For you the artists, you play your role of the therapy that you're getting stuff out in your songs and I'm getting the therapy taking from your song and applying it to what it affects me. And that's the point with our music because the main thing in our music is to to take the audience with in our stories. Yes, to take uh to make it travel in uh in in different worlds. Absolutely, and that's a that's a point in our music. And we we love to see the shimmering eyes when they a wizard.
10:01 Yes, yes, that's the point. Well, you have to say for yourself, well. Where do I start? Well, I joined the band last. Year where you recruited because your name. That would have been a fun idea. Right. It appears to cause lots of confusion from time to time. I bet I don't know why. No, it's gonna be funny though, right, Like somebody you come up to you, or come up to him, and they're like they think they're talking to the other one. Yeah, we experienced that all the time, right. We try to find various solutions for that. Some words, not so much, but we do our best. Well anyway, that's a bit of a boring story. Side story.
10:52 I do have a solution, which is we name her Oliver in the band too. Then then you can really mess whatever. Everyone's Oliver. He just called Oliver and then everyone turns round. Yeah, you've got everyone's attention. Great, See problem solved. It kind of works. Yeah, so okay recruited. Well, first of all, somebody needed to be there. And actually I've known these guys for for years. We go back almost thirty years. Wow. I saw Minor Taurus at their first gig and where I was inspiring. Then we had a few gigs together. I had a band, that band, and then we did a few things here and there and well in private, private area with friendships and everything. We go back a long way. We sort of lost sight over the years, and then just last year the opportunity came and it was immediately clear that there was something happening.
11:57 Here speaking of energy, Yes, and. So that was the right moment probably so also for me, the right moment to join the band. Here's what I get out of that. They should be thanking you because you're the reason they're at Vadkin. You came on the band and then all of a sudden you're invited to play Vadkin. Okay, we need to discuss a few things after this Internet. Oh man, so are you going to explore the Holy Ground now that you're done with the set? Have you had a chance to explore it yet?
12:43 Not yet, but i'll pass the microphone. Yeah. I explored it on my first day. It was right Friday, yesterday. Yesterday, I had the full day and I went through the whole damn village city whatever you can call it. It's big. Yeah, yeah, Like I had an hour break the first day I was here and I was like, shit, I gotta get back to Preston. And I didn't even get halfway through this village. Yeah right, you know, it's you know, it's funny because like Hellfests, I went through that whole thing in one day, But I still thought it was huge. And then I get here, I'm like, holy shit, I'm not gonna be able to do this in one day. And today I had a lunch break, so I'm like, I better get out there before it's over, you know, because I've been doing interviews all day every day, and so I'm like, shit, I need to see the rest of this place because it's the holy ground. Yeah, and it was so cool back there in the village.
13:53 Like I saw so many kids, which I thought was cool. They had kids games back there, and they had to fight like it looked like rugby combined with fighting or wrestling, I don't know what it was. They had a big bag and they're playing. They're all try and grab the bag and then they all fall down. It was pretty funny. Yeah, And there are so many things you can explore. There are different types of village type village food. The food back there, like I do call kinds of festivals and the food sucks, but that's true German food in the village, you know. And I had something last night I was like, oh my god, I was so good.
14:44 And then I had something today I was like, oh my god, that was so good. I never say that at a festival I'm like, I have to eat shit. What am I gonna eat? I can't eat that? Uh, what's the lesser of all evils? You know? Yeah, because like in this States, it's getting better now, but it used to be like the festivals were like a fair and they had fair food and not German fair food, because you got guys got festivals all over the country that always has great food. Not so much in the States. I mean, we have shit too. Okay. I don't know if you have this here, but at the fair near us, we have what's called a donut burger.
15:27 What. Yes, it's the grossest thing ever. It's I don't know if you ever heard of crispy cream donuts. They're like the most sugary donuts there is. It's like a donut with glazed sugar over it. That's so sweet. I love sugar. I don't like these donuts. They're too much. I've never said it's too much sugar. And that's the bun to the hamburger. Oh no. And then they have like chocolate covered bacon. Oh no. Yeah, here's the worst. Because I'm Italian. Pineapple pizza that's sacriligious. Okay, but I went back there I'm like, oh my god, this is like gourmet food. It's like going to a true German restaurant. So that that's I think that's a cool thing about Vodkan, Like I think everything they do here they go above and beyond and added away.
16:26 A fun fact here. I always believe that pineapple pizza was a German invention, really yeah, with ham, ham and pineapple, that. They called it pizza Hawaiian. Yeah, yeah, I don't even know if they have it like that in Hawaii. Probably of the pizza Hawaii has never even been there. Right, So you do have that in Germany, we do, see. I didn't know that. So if I insulted, I didn't mean to. I was really insulted in Hawaii. I certainly agree with your with your findings that it'sious. You won't find it in Italy, No, and you won't find it in New York either, which is where I'm originally from. So that's why, besides me Italian, that's also why it's sacrilegious. Like if you tell a New Yorker you're putting pineapple and pizza, you might get punched out, probably probably, Oh man, what's your favorite German food?
17:28 Oh, dear. It's quite a lot, really, I can think of anything. It's all good, right, you guys have a favorite one. I like every kind of meat and uh. Careful, careful how you say this? But go on? Yeah, I'm no, it's the truth. Sorry, every time meat you eat, it's American joke. I love cow, I love pig. I love about strench. What's grassy? And uh. Choosy? How about ostrich? Yes, it's really good.
18:11 I love Oscar Yeah yeah, yeah, I love it too, and uh yeah, I like I like every good dish dishes. Yeah. I saw somebody eating some meat on a stick back there, and if that were at festival in the States, I'd be like, oh gross. And I looked at him like that looks really freaking good. And then did you did you see where they had the big spit with the for the food back there? For the meat back there? I was like, holy crap, that's huge. Did you ever eat things like that? Yes, that's incredible. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'd beat an elk. I've eating reindeer. I'll tell you if we had time, I tell you a funny story.
18:56 But most Americans think reindeers don't exist. Because they're fictional. From Santa Claus, like, like, we need to get out of America and explore the world. That's what I found out after I started exploring, Like see other cultures, see other things, and see that we're not so different. Number one and number two, we have a lot to learn. That is my viewpoint really because when you live in a sheltered bubble life like that, you think you're the only one that has things. But it's a big world where great cultures and great music. And that's what you guys brought to Vakan, some great fucking music, some great entertainment. And man, I hope you play every year now. Yeah, we hope so too. Yeah, I'm putting that out there. I'm putting it out there. You people from Vakan, you need to bring them back every year.
19:58 Yeah, and someday in is like three times as big as now because every band has to play every year. Yeah, exactly. That's a great idea. I love it. If there's a final words, why I give everybody stuff that either we didn't cover the interview that you need the audience to know, but most importantly, how they can connect to you on socials and how they can buy your merch because they can't listen to my show unless they buy your merch he's making the classes on so I guess that's his question. Well, you'll find us on Facebook. Just look for Mina Taurus or Minor Taurus Metal and the same name. Minor tauris official on Instagram for TikTok we're too old unfortunately, we might change that at some point or wwwminotaurismetal dot com and what Yes video videos on YouTube.
21:05 And Spotify, Spotify. Yeah, you're the first ardent of I've ever had over three thousand interviews that actually promoted them because they don't pay, but promote them happens. No, but that it is a great place for you to get your music discovered because everybody's going on there. I think he's telling you you have to say where it is on Spotify. Maybe some final words from us final words do do do do? You need to wizard back and you need to hear our music. You need to have fun in your life, and you need to understand that musicians are people.
21:48 Right. That was the best final words ever until he said. Something maybe to summarize this, some short words to a message of peace to the world. Hola DeVault Fie thank you. I will make it short. I don't think you can top them. And enjoy your life. Be yourself and listen to Mino Terrists. Maybe you did top it. Thanks very much for being here at VAKIN and thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipeman. Thank you, thank you for listening to the Adventures of pipe Man.
22:31 I'm w for CUI Radio.
