04 Hey, you're listening to The Adventure and I'm Pudlin on W4CY Radio. This is Pipe Man here on The Adventure's Pipe Man W4CY Radio and I'm here with. He is Legend. I'm Skyler. And I'm Jesse. And I'm Matt. Here at Louder Than Life. Yeah, we are. Oh, my God. I changed the name of this festival, though. It's now called Hotter Than Life. Yeah, Hotter Than Hell. No doubt. We should be having Kiss Play at this festival. That's right. Right? That's right. I'd watch. There you go. I heard they were getting back together tonight.
47 Just for this show. Yeah. Exactly. It's their farewell show, though. Farewell again. Yes. Yeah. How many are there? Like 52? They've done it a few times. They know how to go away and come back. I love your shirt, too, by the way, Angel Witch. But I love also... Oh, thanks. I didn't even know what I was wearing for a second, but now I know. Venom. A real Venom shirt. Yeah, a real Venom shirt. I read the back when you were interviewing the last one. Oh, really? Yeah. So, funny how I found out about Venom. It was, I think it was like 1980, 81. There was this record store in the San Fernando Valley called Oz Records I used to go to. And there was this record store clerk there. And the first album he ever showed me was Venom, Welcome to Hell. And it was an export. And I looked at it. I'm like, oh, that's cool. Because back then, you know.
44 Yeah. That's the only way you bought out. You didn't know what it sounded like. You bought the most satanic looking thing you could find. No doubt. And then I remember, you know, I was used to like Maiden, Priest, you know, Ozzy. Right. I listened to this album and I had the lyrics in my head. And I remember so clearly, literally, like. that was scaring the shit out of me. Yeah, we were on Spine Farm Records our last, and that was one of the big selling points for me is that Venom had some records on Spine Farm. I was like, that's sick. Nice. Cool. So now I have a trivia question for you. Okay. Can you guess who that record store clerk was? Yes.
28 He was somebody that was starting a label at the time. Oh, man. And that's how he got people to listen to people on his label and go to their shows. Now can you figure it out? Kevin Lyman? I'm not sure. Brian Slagle. Okay. Okay. That's when he started Metal Blade Records. Oh, Metal Blade. Okay. Yeah. So that's wild, right? You were one of the first, yeah. You know, it's like, I said to him a few years ago, I saw him, I'm like... Who's Kevin Lyman? Who's Kevin anyway? Is he somebody that did a reunion tour too? No, no. I know. I'm kidding because we got Warped Tours back now. Right, right.
09 It's the reunion of Warped. We've never played Warped Tour. Really? Yeah, never. Do you want to? I don't know. I don't know either. I'm not sure. It's this hot. They say it's this hot. I don't want to. I just had somebody say, this is hotter than Warped Soar. I'm like, I wouldn't know. Well, here's what I have to say. I live in South Florida. Okay. I can't wait to get home to cool off because it's fucking hot here. And nobody says that about Florida. Yeah, you got the ocean breeze down there. Where I am, but if you're out west, there ain't none. What part of South Florida? I live near West Palm Island called Singer Island. Okay. But I used to live out west by the Everglades and there was no breeze. Yeah, no breeze in the Everglades.
50 Hot as fucking hell right by the swamp. We'll be in Miami soon. Oh, when? When? Uh, sometime in October. Yeah, we'll figure it out. That's my birthday. I'll have to go to your show. Yeah, come to the show. As long as it's not after, it's after Aftershock. It's going to. Be in a venue. Well, we know that. At some point. It'll be at a venue in some place in Florida. It's like, I want to say it's like the second week in October, but. You can go to a website. Don't listen to me. Don't listen to him. Yeah, we'll just go to a website. Go to a website. And you'll find it. It's a website. Yeah. Does anybody know what the website is? Does Google know what the website is?
35 Google would know. Okay, so if you Google it. You search He's Legend. Miami, Florida, 2026 time travel tour. What is it called? I can't remember. I don't like to look at the shows before we get there. Tell me about that. I like to wake up and be like, did we go north? Did we go south? Where are we? 28? You know, like, where are we at? Where is today? Now, I go a little further. I'll go maybe a week in because I'll book some hotel rooms or whatever, but that's about it, you know? Well, I know where you're playing. Are you Googling it? No, I went on Apple Music. Oh, yeah. Because they now have that cool upcoming concerts thing.
17 Oh, yeah. And I was going to guess which one you were playing at, and I would have been right. You would have been right. In Miami, it's October 6th. October 6th. That's like the day after I get back from Aftershock. Okay, well, you're going to be hungover, but you'll be there. I'll be there. Churchill's. Churchill's. I said that. Maybe the mic didn't pick it up, but I did say that. Nice. He did say Churchill's. I didn't hear it, so I'm glad we got it out now. It's out now. So if you're in Miami from Louder Than Life, make sure you get out there. And you're also going to be in Winter Park the next day. Yeah. So when you're going to Disney, skip the parks that night and go to the He Is Legend show.
57 Well, you should go to the parks. Just get out of there at 4. Yeah, exactly. You know. No Halloween Horror Nights that night. No, don't do that. And then Panama City, which that might as well be a different state. Yeah. You know, because. A lot of strip clubs there, I think. Is there? I think we played in one last time. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, that's just Florida anyway. Yeah. Like, Florida, I think the state capital might be a strip club. Yeah. Well, you know, you wear less clothes because it's a wet heat. Exactly, exactly. Yeah. So, do you have a favorite place that you guys have ever played?
39 Texas. Whoa, she's from Texas. Yeah, we do well in Texas. We love Texas. Our heart's in Texas. Yeah, Adam Tambu is our guitar player. It's from Texas, halfway from Texas. Halfway from Texas. But we're honorary Texans. We feel like we kind of, we bring in the Pantera crowd at times, you know. We got heavy riffs. So, yeah, Texas does well. I mean, we do well there. It always breathes life into the tour, whether we're... especially we're three weeks in, everyone's tired, everyone's burnt out, maybe we've been in the snow, I don't know. Once we get to Texas, There's just a rejuvenation that happens.
20 There's also like a million cities to play in Texas. Well, that's true. You're on a tour and you play like a week of the tour in Texas. You get a relationship with her. Once you get to Texas, you know you're going to be doing like three to four hour drives a night. So you're like, oh man, it's kind of like days off. No one travels in Texas. No, in Florida, you'll drive two hours a night just to go to a different bar. Yeah. You know, like, people are like, oh, yeah, I'm from St. Pete. I'm going over to Orlando. Like, I'm heading down to Panama City. But in Texas, they're like, going to San Antonio from Austin. Are you crazy? Like, an hour and a half, man. Like, go see the show. To your point, you're right up there in Florida, but South Florida.
02 Oh, yeah, you don't go anywhere. I try to hire people for the radio station, and they literally say, oh, you're 10 minutes away, I don't want to do that commute. Yeah, that's wild. Like, that blows my mind. Yeah, it's wild. We're in a town where, like, there's a lot of bars on Front Street and Third Street, you know, and that's walking distance, but... For some reason, crossing over 3rd to get to 4th and walk down, people were like, oh, I better call it. Why would you do that? You would walk nine times that in New York City to get to another place. Yeah. Everybody should learn to take a little walk. What's weird is I grew up in New Jersey one of the smallest states and we think nothing of driving two hours to get somewhere and you can get through the whole state in less than two hours but still it's.
49 A mindset you know I learned that from people in Florida when I was there and it was just like yeah we're going to go over here and it's like an hour and a half drive you're like it's nothing it's just go wherever yeah that's. Cool Well, there it is. Except the bummer in Florida is, that's why I'm so happy you're coming to Miami. So many bands, they don't want to do the trip down and the trip back up because that state's a bitch to drive through. It's been a long time since we've been that far south in Florida. So we're doing maybe four or five Florida dates on this run. Four. Yeah, it's going to be great. Yeah, it's going to be great. I love it, I love it. So, tell me what life is like now as He Is Legend compared to when you first started.
36 We're a lot older. Yeah, out of high school. Yeah, we started playing, I mean, him and Adam were in a band in high school. I started playing, I saw them. But we were still in high school when you joined. Yeah, I joined in high school, and then He Is Legend started shortly thereafter, um we had some iterations of weird bands as kids um now Jesse's been in for almost what nine years now ten years now um It's a lot of the same shit, you know? I mean, we're... Yeah, I mean, we have a great time. We have a really good... Our touring format has been fairly similar to when we were younger. Just a little more honed in.
28 We're a little more professional now. But yeah, we still try to have a good time, you know? That's the key. Yeah, bring it out. We all still like each other, you know, so it's like. That's amazing in and of itself. There's not a lot of animosity. I think that's more amazing than the band staying together. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? Like, and it's important. Yeah. Like, you're with each other all the time. Yeah. You better like each other. Yeah, yeah. We have mutual respect for each other and we. You know, me and him rib each other all the time, but we've known each other since we were 18 years old, you know? And, like, where I come from, if I don't rib you, I don't like you.
08 Yeah, yeah. You know? I'd rather somebody rib me than not talk to me. Exactly. Someone had to tell that to our merch guy who's been with us for years. They're like, if Matt's not making fun of you, he doesn't like you. So consider it a good thing. Exactly. He's got a nickname for you that's not something you want. Right? Exactly. That's the way it goes. Yeah, I read something recently that was like, you know, you could have an argument with somebody on tour and then, like, sit with them at lunch and the apology is, what time do we play? You know, it's like. and that's there's a lot of that where you know you spend every waking moment especially in in a van you know like we've we've always been in a van and trailer so you're literally like less than a foot away from this person at all times right it can get a little you know everybody wants to have their space and we allow each other to kind of disappear at times during the day but i mean Once you're in a well-oiled machine the way we work, you kind of know when to give somebody their space, when they need a hug. There's a lot of that where you kind of just have to read the room and play your cards right.
22 I will say, and I've described this to people, nowadays our arguments that we have, we're so dialed into. The arguments happen... before they've ever happened. Right. Because somebody's mad because they're like, I know exactly what he's going to say when I say this. The situation hasn't happened yet, but we all know each other so well. It's already played out. So, I don't know. So, we know each other to such a well degree. Good and bad, you know, you can read somebody without speaking. So, we've been. Often you don't speak. Yeah, often you don't speak. Yeah. You're having subliminal arguments.
04 That's more our speed of we're so in tune with one another. We've been doing this for so long. I love hearing all that. And to a lot of bands that have been around as long as we have don't live in the same city anymore. We all live within three blocks of each other. That's cool. He walks by my house with his dog and sends a picture of my car to me. And then I just look out the window and I see him walking away. I was like, what was the point of any of that? That's my favorite thing to do. That's my favorite thing. I think I would do the same thing, actually. That's fucking great, man. You know? I sent him, like, seven in a row one time. I just.
44 amassed seven and didn't send it to him just sent it to him. All in one day a different down the street like right in front of it from behind it. From in front of it yeah he used to walk around the lake which i live on and he would just tell me like i just walked by your house you weren't home but he'd never come say hello just like i'm on my walk where'd you go where are you right. Now oh where are you see that's so fucking cool because too like when you're together all the time Maybe you wouldn't want to live so close. So that says even more about you guys. We do have another, like, thing that we always do is, like, after a tour, we probably go a good month without. Talking to each other. Like, I mean, me and Jesse work at the same bar.
26 So it's like we'll see each other, but it's often, like, no music. We're not talking about anything. But, yeah, it's like we kind of fall off and we. Just have this moment. Matt texts me. random stuff all the time, but... Yeah, we just... I. Think that's kind of normal no matter what, too, in this industry. You know, like, I go on tour and I do all these festivals. When I get home, like, I seclude. Don't fucking talk to me. Leave me alone. I don't even leave my... Like, I did Rock, Oklahoma a couple weeks ago. I barely left my house before coming to Louder Than Life. Yeah, John Lennon said something one time about, like, when he got off tour, they were like, what do you do when you get home? And he's like, I sleep for two weeks.
07 Right. You know, like, you fall into a pile, and you just kind of stay there for however long you need to recuperate. Exactly. I literally didn't even recuperate until, like, the morning of Louder Than Life. Yeah. And you've been here every day since Thursday, right? Right, and they'll do it again. I'm doing Aftershock. Oh, God. So I'm going to go home. Same thing. You know, like Rock, Oklahoma, I had the worst festival flu ever. You know, like the dust was so bad. It's a dusty state. Oh, my God. And I rarely sleep as it is. Like, she'll tell you, I probably haven't slept much at all this whole louder than life. But when I got home from Rock, Oklahoma... I had to do some shit the next day for the station, and then I slept for like two days.
53 Yeah. Well, you got to. Exactly. Got to get it back. You know? And I also noticed stuff around here, too, like at festivals where bands are doing things on their own, seeing separate sets. And I think about what you guys are talking about. It's like you're stuck on a van or a bus with each other. You want to have your you time. Yeah. So you grab that you time at something like this. Oh, yeah, for sure. I wander constantly. So I'm usually going from stage to stage at a festival. I'm stoked to see Prodigy. Nice. Danny Elfman. I'm really stoked about Elfman because I saw Oingo Boingo play in my high school gymnasium for an assembly.
38 I love Oingo Boingo. I hope he plays only a lad. I hope he plays only a lad. I love that one too. Stay is a deep cut. Another one. It's going to be so much fun. I scheduled no interviews. The only other thing that would be more fun that I missed being here at Ladder in Life Is Captain James T. Kirk launching his heavy metal band. Oh, yeah. Where was that? Riot Fest. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I used to cover that all the time, but now it's same weekend. So, I'm like, fuck. Yeah, that's got to be something. Right? 95. He's an odd character. I watched that Unexplained show, I think it's called.
22 Right? And is it unexplained? Yeah, I think that's what it's called. Yeah, he's an interesting character. Did you see his rider agreement that he made them agree? Yeah, I saw that. He wants a DeLorean instead of a golf cart to bring him to his stage. It's amazing. He wants to be made. They put all that shit in there so he wouldn't have to play, and they probably facilitated it. They made it all happen. And then it's on Good Morning America, and they list it all off, and he goes, don't forget my bowl of sauerkraut. He wants a bowl of sauerkraut in his dressing room. I found out afterwards, apparently that's the secret to a long life. Probiotics, baby.
03 There it is. Yeah. So is there anything else you want to tell the listeners about anything you've got coming up that we haven't covered? Time Tunnel. Yeah, Time Tunnel Tour. Time Travel Tour. Sorry. Sorry. It's really confusing to me. I said it. There's a Time Travel Tour that we are on, and the second leg starts October 2nd. look on the internet for it and uh yeah you can find us most of our socials are at he is legend.
