04 Hi, you're listening to Adventure on W4CY Radio. This is the Pipe Man here on the Adventure's Pipe Man W4CY Radio, and I'm here with. Loris the Band. Nice. So, I'm digging some of these shirts here. I want to start there. First of all, I'm a chocoholic, so I like the Choclosaurus one. It's my grandma's shirt. Is it really? I inherited it from her. Really? Yeah. That's a cool story. But, yeah. She also liked chocolate. That's a very cool story. So, do you feel like she's with you all the time while you're wearing that shirt?

47 I have my grandfather's ring and my grandmother's shirt. That's badass. I love that. So, like, do they like your music that you're bringing? Well, they're not alive anymore. I know that. But, like, since they're coming with you all the time to shows. I don't know. They're into different stuff. Like that's normal, actually. They support me in whatever I do, but... There you go. It's not their taste. There you go. I like that shirt, too. Is that like a pretty famous place in Knoxville? They did a David Lynch... Yeah, they did a David Lynch respect scenario, and this guy brought me the shirt unexpectedly because he knew what I liked. Nice. Fans showed up to North Carolina, and I wish I knew his name to give him props, but... He can know that I've been wearing this shirt like crazy, so.

36 I love it. It is a cool shirt. How about yours? Mine is from Mozambique, and it has elephants on it. I see that. I got it there. You got it where? In Mozambique. Oh, that's cool. Yeah. So, did you ride an elephant? No. Like, you weren't required to ride an elephant to get the shirt? It's like, you ride the elephant, you get a spring shirt. Oh, yeah, they have elephants there. It has elephants, right? Yeah. Yeah. I like getting tourist shirts. It's like one of my passions. That's pretty cool. This one is really good. How many tourist shirts do you have? I don't know, like probably 200. See, I kind of do the same thing because I travel the world and I like try to get a shirt from every place I've been. So like my closet consists of 5 million black metal rock t-shirts and then 5 million superhero shirts and 5 million touristy type shirts and then 5 million surfer shirts. So I'm kind of schizophrenic.

42 That's acceptable. Those are just passions. Exactly. Those are just passions. You shouldn't feel ashamed. I don't at all. I'm pretty proud of being schizophrenic. So that's your passion. What's your passion outside of music? I'm a giant. toy and comic nerd. That's why I gave you the hang loose when you said superhero shirts. Alright, so are you DC or Marvel? I don't like picking favorites. I really love it all. Oh, high five, man. Because every time I pick one and the other one does something sweet, they're all. Exactly. I don't get the whole DC Marvel thing. I like all of it. Some people just like to be like, always have favorites and numbered lists of everything. Or pick a side. Man, just enjoy life.

22 Or pick a side. I have to pick a side. No, you fucking don't. You can do whatever you want. I agree with you. You know? Who is your favorite superhero that you would pick? Well, we wrote a song about Sentry. Okay, there you go. He's a very compelling character. He's got his own dark side. He's his own worst enemy. Everybody can relate to that, I would think. Absolutely. So my radio show personality, Pipe Man, is patterned after Dark Knight. Oh, okay. More so than Batman. I like both. But Dark Knight's a little more me than Batman. And I love Batman and Arrow because they have no metahuman powers. They have no alien... They're not aliens. They're just people that had some fucked up shit happen to them and they turned into a badass.

11 But they have literature powers... They have the literature power of overcoming inhuman, insane obstacles that no human can overcome. Exactly. So what's the riddle there? They have no powers, but they can do things that humans couldn't possibly do. It's a bit of a mind fuck. I like them too. That is a good way of putting it too. James Bond also. You know, funny story. I was just talking about that last night. I bought a car when we first had cell phones came out. And you got a free phone with the car. And so they said to me, do you want a mobile phone or a car phone? I'm like, mobile phone? What do I need that for? I want a car phone so I can look like James Bond.

55 And I was calling people. Like my first bill was like $ 750 because I was calling everybody like, guess where I'm calling you from? I'm in my car. We used to call that the Zach Morris phone. Nice. RIP Mr. Building. I know, right? I loved that show. It's gone. Yeah, like last week. Really? Yeah. It just happened? Yeah, just last week. Holy shit. The beloved Mr. Building is no longer with us. Oh, man, that sucks. So did you like the revised version of Saved by the Bell? I think the original was better. I only liked it as a cultural icon, but I didn't really catch it. I was in my young man metal phase, so I wasn't catching that kind of material.

37 But as a fan of just pop culture in general, I'm well aware of it at this point, and I have friends who love it a lot. There you go. Oh, yeah. He's been gone for quite some time. He had some issues. My piano teacher's daughter got Screech to come to her birthday party. Really? Wow. What was he like in person? Let me tell you what he was like. I wasn't even there, but I remember Eric describing it in like sixth grade. Don't say derogative. All right. I won't say anything. I'll let Eric speak for himself. What was Screech like? Tell us about Screech. I want to know it. I got so scared that you were going to say something horrible about a dead person. I mean, only if you care about physical appearance. No. We missed the guy.

26 Screech was great. He was awesome. I wish I had a chance to meet him as well. I felt sorry for him because he was doing birthday parties. It just made me sad. But we did a birthday party on our first tour. Oh, that's true. That was. The first show of our first tour ever, actually nearby here in Tracy. Tell me the story about that actual show at the birthday party. Well, it was our old singer, Adam, he had a cousin named Nessa. I think it was like her 14th birthday, maybe. And she wanted us to play her birthday song. And it was kind of on the way to our first show, which was in Gilroy, an attire shop. So the day before, we stopped by sweet little cousin Nessa's house to play the show. And then we set up by their pool.

21 And it was like her and two of her friends and her parents. We played the show. And then. Yeah, I thought it was 50 bucks. Well, 100 bucks. Her mom gave us 100 bucks. We're like, no, no, you're crazy. This is too much money. And then we sat... We sat in the jacuzzi with her and her friend. And then that night I took Ambien and thought I was a wolf and crawled on our trailer and howled at the moon. That's epic. That's most nights, though, but that was the first time it happened. So I got to tell you something, too. Like, I never talk about band names, but I was laughing to myself because every time I look up a band that it's like a pretty common word, I have to type in the band name. and then the band name and then the band or so-and-so band in order to find them.

13 So I kind of laughed and chuckled because you're horse, the band, so I don't have to worry about doing that. We were just horse, but then there was a lawsuit threatened and just sidestepped it. That's a good way to do it. It's kind of like Green Jello. You know that band? How could you not? Exactly. So it's funny. They played at Milwaukee Metal Fest this year, and I was covering that. And now they have to call themselves Green Jelly. They've been like that since the 90s. Right, which is stupid. I have a first edition cassette tape from when I was in sixth grade that still says Jello. Nice. I love that because you know what stupid is? Okay, you can have a pedophile be your representative of your Jell-O brand, but a band can't use the name.

03 Hey, man, let's not make false accusations. He's a rapist, not a pedophile. Okay, you might be right there. Talking about Cosby? Yeah. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. I loved him so much as a child. I know. He was great. There's always that part that wants to just keep liking it, but then you put it on and you're like. He's in the gynecologist's office going, Oh my God. Yeah, exactly. And you know, the thing is, I stopped liking him before that all happened because I found out he was a racist. So... Are you racist or are you a rapist? Maybe you're both. I don't know.

52 Don't know. No comment. Exactly. But what was cool about the show was, first of all, it was one of the most fun shows I've ever been to in my life. I've been to thousands. We had noodles in the mosh pit, okay? Like the water noodle things. And the whole show, he would have the whole place chant, Green Jello Sucks. Green Jello Sucks. I thought it was fun. I think Primus coined that also for themselves. Really? Primus Sucks? Yeah. All the way back to their first album. They had the shirt, Suck On This. Primus Sucks. That was their anthem. I love that. That's cool. I didn't even know that.

34 I recently had a resurgence of my love for Primus. It's been many years since I was in my youth. And it hit me like a truck when I started listening to it again. Nice. I love it. And so, what would you say for the three of you? What was the real... impetus that made you want to be this band? You asked these two guys, because I joined after, but before we started touring. I don't know if I remember the impetus. I will tell you that when I joined, they had a one-page website that says, We are Horse to Band. We love Thrice. Really? Was that on your MySpace, too? Yeah, it was before MySpace. Our MySpace was epic.

16 It's coming back. I'm wondering if Tom is going to still be my friend. Tom is in blowjob paradise. So what does it feel to be here at Aftershock at Danny Wimmer Festival? What does it feel like to be here at Aftershock at Danny Wimmer Festival? It's pretty awesome. We like being here. We were really excited to get invited. And we were down to play at any opportunity. How did it happen? I don't know. You tell me. I think another band couldn't play, and at the last minute, they let us play. Did you pay that other band to drop out? No, no, no. It's not the first time that we took their slot for something, though.

57 You're that band. All we know is our agent said, you want to do this? We said, fuck yeah, sounds incredible, and we did it. Is this your first Wimmer Festival? Oh, yeah. How's it feel? Hopefully many more. How's it feel? How's Danny Wimmer treat you guys? We haven't met him yet, but his representatives have been very nice to us. Our setup is pretty regal. It's nice being here. Right? That makes it better, right? Because I ask that question of all artists because I've never, in all the years I've been covering the Wimmer festivals, I've never heard an artist say a bad thing. What I do hear is how stress-free it can be, which is so important to me, because it sucks for artists to go to festivals sometimes. Suffering is important to art, but sitting out in the sun with nowhere to go, and then you just have four hot bottles of water, and then you've got to play, that's like a fucking nightmare, and a lot of artists have to do that.

52 Drag your shit across a dusty field. Yeah, we did an unmentioned event at one point in the past, and we had to take all our cabs across a dirt field and load it over a mile. Like, just a dirt field. You just feel like the scum of the earth. I have a visual in my head of that. That could be like in a movie. Yeah, that's not even remotely the scenario here. This is, I don't know, it's respect both ways. It's great. See, that's a good word to use. I love that because... there definitely should be respect. Yeah. Well artists like people need to respect the artists that play, but then also at the same time, the people put on the events, artists need to respect them for helping them out and treating them good. So yeah, we get that. We've been around a while, so that's something important to us.

37 It's hard work. People, I think people don't really realize how hard it is a, to be an artist B to put on a festival like this. Right. Absolutely. It's insane. Pure chaos. And the, the, And it's people who just want to lose their minds, too. So you're trying to have a very safe, organized event for people who want to cut the fuck loose. Yeah, and they're like, oh, what's the big deal? It's just one weekend. No, on Monday, they're already planning Aftershock 2027 and starting everything, you know? Got to do it that way. There are no days off. Just like there's no days off as a band, you know? Oh, there's days off. You go to the petting zoo. There you go. Which one do you like to pet best?

21 I'm a bunny fan at this point, but, you know, I pet elephants, goats. Oh, yeah, absolutely. You know, we pet all the animals. We love all the animals. Is your favorite elephant? No, it's probably a quail. I love that. It's such a unique answer. What do you love about a quail? I like how they have that feather on their head that goes up and they move really funny. They kind of are like elusive. They move their feet really fast. They're like a running bird. Like a roadrunner.

01 Not like a turkey, though. It's a little different. They explode out of the brush. You made me think of something because I want to let you know. Coming 2028. There you go. I want to let you know what I saw as I was walking into the first day of the festival, if I can find the picture here. Is it a predatory bird warning? It has something to do with something he said. That's what I'm going to give right now. But I do have it. I have to find it here while we're talking. But while I'm finding it, why don't you tell everybody how they can reach out to you, check out all your music, merch, all that good stuff. How to?

44 First you're gonna want to open your phone i got that done already stick your thumb on the phone and unlock it or you put in your pin if that's how you. Look at it some people open their phone and realize they forgot to turn it on. That happens you can use your web browser actually just open up spotify it's faster spotify horse the band Horsetheband.com. Sometimes the website's up, sometimes it's down. Most reliable place. Find us on Instagram, Horsetheband. Spotify, Horsetheband. What about TikTok? Kind of like Band of Horses, but in a different order with the words. Yes, there's a different alphabetical display.

27 Just try to remember Band of Horses. What if you come up with, like, okay, so I follow this thing on TikTok. And it's this horse, not a real horse, but a dude with a horse hat, head, in a bathtub, playing the drums, and then his band members, I think they're as horses, too. Oh, I think I saw one where they did it in a port-a-potty, and they had a saxophone. That was a good beat, though. That sounds like the Clown Corps band, though. Oh, you're right. I think I'm mixing up the two different artists. I'm mixing up the toilet clowns with the bathtub horses.

10 Yeah, see, you can't do that, okay? It's disrespectful, but honestly, I haven't researched them enough, so I'm coming from a place of ignorance. You know, that's like mixing up Insane Clown Posse with Horse the Band. I might do that. That's an easy mistake to make. What if You guys did a tour with Insane Cloud Posse. I would jump on that in a fucking second. Okay. And then you do dress up as horses and they spray you with Faygo on stage. Whatever. That would be fun, right? Insane Horse Posse. We got killed by Gwar. We were murdered by Gwar. Now, that's epic. Tell me about that.

52 Dave Brockie told me that he thought I was mentally disturbed and needed help. Ha ha ha ha. Oh, if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is. It was probably the most important compliment of my life. As a young man who grew up under the cloud of odorous, that was a big deal. There it is. Can I talk about GWAR for a second? Yes, absolutely. So people that go see GWAR, they don't want to see another band. They don't want to see the opening band. It's all about GWAR. So we got really good at dealing with heckling on that tour. But Nathan, he did like the ultimate thing I've ever seen. And it's very guar. We're in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

39 We're getting heckled the shit out of us. And this guy in the front row is just not stopping. And Nathan went up to him, grabbed him by the shirt and vomited on his face. And the guy went from heckling to like having the biggest frown you've ever seen. Covered in vomit. Had to leave the show. I love that. And then nobody heckled us after that. Well, that's better than the story I tell. Like now you blew away one of my stories. People go to a guar show to get vomited on. You want to hear my heckler story? The same night, though, a guy approached me on a stairwell, stopped me and said, man, you guys are pretty good, but let me tell you. Nobody likes keyboards, bro.

23 Nobody. I'll never forget that. That was that night in Bellefonte. I will never fucking forget that. Oh, my God. So, the story pertaining to you, I'll hold off for a second, because I do want to say that one time I interviewed GWAR, it was at Download, and their shit didn't get there, their costumes. So, the tour manager comes out and he's like, we're going to bring Blowthor out, but he doesn't have anything on, so... basically, you've got to not let anybody know that it's him. Okay. So we're sitting at the table, and across the table, this photographer friend of mine has some gummy bears. So in the middle of the interview, he goes to them, hey, hey, you, what is that over there? Give me one of those.

13 And it was in total Blothar voice. And my friend had no clue. I mean, because it didn't look like Blothar, but it didn't register, I guess. And I was just laughing. I broke character. I was laughing my ass off. They're amazing. I remember them taking the stage one night. I won't say who, but one of them walked by me and he had his helmet on, but no makeup on underneath. And he's like, Dude, I just can't. He just fucking went out there. And I was like, fuck yeah, man. So just honest and real. At Time Bash, I was interviewing them, and we were at the bar, and I looked at one of them, and I'm like, yeah, it's a good thing you wear costumes.

03 I could probably tell more stories, but I don't want to seem disparaging about great people. There's so many. Weird, obtuse things To take observation of And maybe they'd appreciate me telling tales But I also don't want to pull back the curtain either So just take it at face value And enjoy I. Love that So back to you 1983 The Us Festival 300,000 people on Heavy Metal Day The headliner is Van Halen They start playing Ain't Talking About Love And nothing's happening From Dave And Eddie's looking over him. Michael Anthony's looking over him. And he looked at the crowd and he said, I fucking forgot the words. And the whole crowd cheered except one dude who heckled him. And he turned to him and he goes, I will fuck your girlfriend. And that shut up the heckler.

00 I'd like to see that happen in the modern era. I know, right? It'd make quite a news wave. Yeah, it would not be good on social media. It'd be like sexual assault happening at the Van Halen show. By Diamond Dave. So here's the pictures. Can you tell me what that is? Right outside the venue as I was walking in, there were like a hundred of them. There's a giant dude. that is exactly what they are it's. Too hot to be wearing those feathers. Right now yeah I mean like literally there were like a hundred of them they were everywhere there's one with the feathers up and then I caught one that.

40 Was fresh organic poultry right there was. One I got I can't find that one but there was one where I caught it in action mode it was running after somebody. That's terrifying Can you imagine being maimed by a turkey? Well, I have a question for you then. I live in South Florida. Would you rather, we'll play that game, would you rather, would you rather get chased by a turkey or an alligator? Oh, turkey, sure. Although, it's probably faster. No, alligators are pretty quick. They are, but they can only run fast in short moments, so don't trip. You know, like, you don't want to run and then trip, because then you're It's a bummer. Okay, so.

25 I walk with a cane, so. I wasn't going to go there, but... Okay, so... All right, now, since you picked turkey, would you rather get chased by a turkey or a guana? Because I have, like, thousands of them where I live. They're everywhere. Oh, an iguana, yeah. Yeah, no, they're fucking bastards, those fuckers. They run really fucking fast. Yeah, but you can step on his head. Maybe. Maybe. The babies, some of them are big. They're vicious. And they fall on your head from the trees. Would you rather be chased by an iguana or an ice agent? Fucking iguana every day of the week. Because I can tell you that even back in the 80s, I used to go from L.A. to Tijuana, and I almost didn't get back in the United States because they thought I was Mexican because I was wearing a leather jacket.

18 I wasn't trying to be like weird. I was just thinking of scary shit that would chase me. No, it's true, though, because ice are a bunch of assholes. Okay, so, like, I'm cool with that. That's the idea. Yeah, I don't want to be chased by ice at all. I don't want to get alligator Alcatraz. It's the most ridiculous fucking place ever. I'm pretty sure I'm afraid of ice, but I think that I'm invisible to them. Well, yeah, it's the cane. They can't see me. Yeah, it's the cane. It's your magic power. I'm cloaked. There it is. I don't know why. They just can't see me. Okay, so, would you... Would you rather get chased by an ICE agent or a Trumper? Isn't that the same thing? Okay, never mind. Oh, my God.

03 I mean, honestly, like I said, I walk with a cane. I just don't want to be chased by much. Exactly. So anything else you guys want to share that we haven't covered already or anything else that you want to say ridiculous that we haven't said ridiculous already? But smaller than my fist, please. One time we stayed in Florida, and people invited us to come stay at their house, but it was really a squat, and we slept in a room that was full of trash and feces. Okay, I don't think there's any more would-you-rathers. But that's rock and roll, man. We could do the Would You Rather's all day. That was a great night.

45 That wasn't meant to be a horror story. It's just what I thought of immediately when I think of Florida. I think it was Jacksonville. He left a good part out. Well, that tracks. It's Jacksonville. That makes sense. I also once hucked a cheeseburger over a fence into a boat in pure white rage. Like boiling in all of my systems. The most angry a human has ever been. And I threw that cheeseburger onto that yacht. And I don't look back. That's terrible. Daytona Beach. You are violent. It's because there is cheese on it. You're violent. Death becomes us all. Are you kosher? Nah. I just hate fake ass cheese.

27 Oh, and there's a lot of that. I'm so hungry, and it's just like, I'm not going to break my morals just because I'm starving. Right. Vegan cheese, that's really disgusting. I'm not a vegan. I just hate fake cheese. I know. Well, I'm saying that's fake cheese. It's disgusting. I haven't tried it. You know what's not disgusting? Simulation is always bad. Horse the band. Thank you. I appreciate that. Although I've done some pretty disgusting shit in my day. Well, I didn't say you didn't do disgusting stuff. I'm just saying the band in general. No, it's true. We're a precision instrument. You guys are fucking badass. Thank you, sir. Next year, you need the headline aftershock. I'm putting the word in. Horse the band needs the headline.

09 Once we get to play after the sun's already set, I'm happy. Well, that kind of would make sense because you're headlining, okay? So unless you're in Sweden in the summer. I live in Sweden, actually. Look at how I picked that. Out of the hat. I was there when it was 23 and a half hours of sunlight. And I'm like, I wouldn't live here during the winter because I don't want those 23 and a half. I like the sunlights. But it was kind of a trip. I got there, and my watch was still on East Coast time. And I looked down at my watch, and I'm like, we're at this cafe. I'm like, it's pretty nice out for 6 o'clock. And somebody looks at me, and it's like, it's midnight. I'm like, holy shit.

55 For real, it's a culture shock. We did St. Petersburg one year, and there was like 1,000 kids at the McDonald's at like 12, 30 at night, and the sun was still out. And I was like, what is happening to me? Yeah. Is it true that Horst the Band tours the McDonald's in Europe? No. Oh, okay. No, just played a lot of shows all over the place. That would be a cool tour. Like they used to have the Hot Topic tour. You could do the McDonald's tour. I think that there's a dying precedent needed in the heavy music scene for a Denny's tour. The memes ask for it. The precedent is set. I think that Denny's needs to start having live music.

36 I agree. Let's do it. And you're going to start it. You start the tour. Make the announcement right here and now. What's their breakfasts called? Grand Slams. Grand Slam venue. Or Grand Slam festival. There it is. Well, you guys fucking rock. And thanks a lot for entertaining me. Entertaining your 100,000 closest friends here at Aftershock. And thanks for being on the Adventures of Pipe Man. Thanks for having us. Thank you for listening to the Adventures of Pipe Man. On W4CY Radio.
