1
00:00:00.360 --> 00:00:05.639
There's action and humor of plenty in
this animated adventure, which tracks how the
2
00:00:05.719 --> 00:00:12.919
teenage mutant Ninja Turtles came to be
and how they won favor five four three
3
00:00:13.679 --> 00:00:22.640
two one music. This is Movies
First with Alex First, scientist Baxter Stockman's
4
00:00:22.719 --> 00:00:29.000
lair is raided. Baxter Stockman is
voiced by Jane Carlo Esposito. He's killed,
5
00:00:29.359 --> 00:00:35.560
but he's already grown some terrifying creatures
among the monsters. He's also given
6
00:00:35.600 --> 00:00:40.880
birth to four cute, bright green, slime affected turtles. They're brought up
7
00:00:40.920 --> 00:00:45.759
by a father figure, large rat
Splinter the voice of Jackie Chan, who
8
00:00:45.799 --> 00:00:50.840
warns them not to venture into the
human world because it's such a dangerous place.
9
00:00:51.520 --> 00:00:56.560
He urges them to stain the sewers
that they call home. Only as
10
00:00:56.640 --> 00:01:03.320
the years pass, Donatello, Michaelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael become more curious.
11
00:01:03.040 --> 00:01:07.040
Fifteen years on, and one day, while out getting groceries, the
12
00:01:07.079 --> 00:01:12.840
turtles can't help but watch the adoration
on an outdoor movie screen for Fairest Builler's
13
00:01:12.959 --> 00:01:18.359
day Off. It's a lovely scene
where a clip of Fairest Buller's day Off
14
00:01:18.560 --> 00:01:23.799
is woven into the animated screenplay.
That's the mainstay of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
15
00:01:23.879 --> 00:01:32.239
Mutant Mayhem. The Turtles crave interaction
and positive recognition from humans. Ignoring their
16
00:01:32.239 --> 00:01:37.920
father's overtures, they venture out again
and into the middle of a firestorm embracing
17
00:01:37.959 --> 00:01:42.879
New York City, which is facing
an army of mutants. The latter are
18
00:01:42.959 --> 00:01:48.159
led by the evil and menacing Superfly, the voice of Ice Cube, who's
19
00:01:48.319 --> 00:01:53.560
looking to destroy mankind. In trouble, the Turtles are given a sympathetic ear
20
00:01:53.879 --> 00:01:59.760
by Wanna Bee reporter April O'Neill ao
Eda Berri, who has her own issues
21
00:01:59.760 --> 00:02:05.040
at school. Intent on finding a
way to stop Superfly from carrying out his
22
00:02:05.200 --> 00:02:09.439
nefarious plan, the teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles have their work cut out for them.
23
00:02:10.360 --> 00:02:15.240
A five strong writing team that includes
Seth Rogan gives us the Turtle's origin
24
00:02:15.400 --> 00:02:22.520
story and first grand adventure. It's
colorful and entertaining, with laughs to satisfy
25
00:02:22.800 --> 00:02:28.199
both younger and older audiences. Of
course, the storyline is largely predictable.
26
00:02:28.759 --> 00:02:32.400
The Ninja Turtles must come out as
winners, but that's not without some high
27
00:02:32.479 --> 00:02:38.759
jinks and scrapes along the way.
I appreciated the ragtag bunch of ugly critters
28
00:02:38.800 --> 00:02:46.120
that make up Superfly's mutant army.
The Turtles are teenagers simply spreading their wings.
29
00:02:46.840 --> 00:02:51.599
The way Splinters realized made him a
particular fancy of mine. He may
30
00:02:51.680 --> 00:02:54.599
be big and ugly, but he's
also protective. His heart's in the right
31
00:02:54.680 --> 00:03:00.159
place, even if he is overly
cautious. April O'Neil brings no shortage of
32
00:03:00.240 --> 00:03:06.000
get up and go to the four. She's ambitious and refuses to let previous
33
00:03:06.000 --> 00:03:12.199
obstacles stand in her way. Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem marks a reboot
34
00:03:12.199 --> 00:03:16.000
of the franchise, with the ending
suggesting more to come. Remember to stay
35
00:03:16.039 --> 00:03:21.719
on as the credits roll. It
scores a six and a half out of
36
00:03:21.759 --> 00:03:28.199
ten. You've been listening to Movies
