After 20 years of war and revolution across the Middle East and North Africa–from Libya to Afghanistan--we take a look at what US foreign policy gets wrong, where China is trying to fill the gaps, and the future of the region, in this conversation with author and journalist Robert Kaplan.

His latest book, “The Loom of Time,” provides some incredible historical perspective on US foreign policy and takes us on a tour of the region from Saudi Arabia to Israel to Syria to Egypt. This episode is effectively an hour-long masters degree in Middle East affairs.

While the US might try, the region continues to require constant attention from Washington DC. Why is that? Kaplan provides perspective on how we got here over the last 100 years, about his conversations with senior leaders across the region and what might happen next.
