Patriots Collapse vs Steelers + Panthers Preview & Trade Buzz
Mike and Rayshawn react to the Patriots' Week 3 meltdown in Pittsburgh and preview a must-win against the Panthers, plus trade talk and league-wide predictions.
On this episode of Missing the Point, hosts Michael Marcangelo and Rayshawn Buchanan deliver an unfiltered deep dive into the New England Patriots' Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The guys rip into the Patriots’ offensive struggles, focusing on questionable coaching decisions, misuse of key players like Rhamondre Stevenson and Stefon Diggs, and the lack of identity in the red zone. They react to another sloppy home performance and address the growing frustration among fans with how Drake Maye is being developed under center.
Rayshawn calls out the team’s failure to generate a pass rush, noting the glaring absence of Christian Gonzalez and the Patriots’ inability to sack Aaron Rodgers despite 23 dropbacks.
Mike demands urgency and accountability, especially at home where the team’s record since Tom Brady’s departure remains abysmal.
Then it’s on to Week 4: the New England Patriots vs. the Carolina Panthers. The hosts break down the Panthers’ recent win over the Falcons, discuss the threat of Carolina’s run game, and debate what the Patriots need to do to avoid a 1-3 start. The guys even float a potential trade for tight end Kyle Pitts—would a fifth-rounder and Austin Hooper get it done?
You’ll also get predictions for a stacked NFL Week 4 slate, including:
- Giants benching Russell Wilson
- Ravens vs. Chiefs
- 49ers vs. Jaguars
- Colts vs. Rams
- Bengals vs. Broncos
- Chargers vs. Giants
- And more

0:05 Mike Marcangelo: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Missing the Point, Boston Edition, right here on the Radcast Network. I am your host, Michael Marc Angelo, joined alongside by my guy, Hollywood Rayshawn Buchanan, and MTP Boston means we're talking Patriots. Mike Marcangelo: And the last 3 years, typically when we talk Patriots, it's not great. This week will be no different. The Patriots lost. Mike Marcangelo: A game that they absolutely fucking dominated against the Pittsburgh Steelers at home, 21-14. They fall to 0-2 at home. They've lost as many games since Brady left as they lost at home, the 20 years that he was here, so there's that. But Ray, how are you, man? What do you want to talk about?
0:47 Rayshawn Buchanan: So, I mean, I did think it sucked that we didn't speak after the Miami win last week. I mean, it just… it was just scheduled, scheduled conflict, but, Rayshawn Buchanan: But the reason why I bring up that win is that, obviously, yes, getting a win in the NFL, regardless of what team you are, like, a win's hard to come by, right? So, and even though they had won down there, and Drake had a really good game. Rayshawn Buchanan: There were still some things that you saw and needed to get, you know, cleaned up, right? And the reason why I used that game is because whatever… Rayshawn Buchanan: Didn't get corrected in that game. Rayshawn Buchanan: absolutely reared his head, ugly headed that, in this Pittsburgh game. And obviously, for those that have listened to us, you guys know, that I've gotten on Pittsburgh still as fans, Rayshawn Buchanan: You know, they've never gotten us when it mattered. Obviously, they won, on Sunday, and it took… Rayshawn Buchanan: Let's say it took a catastrophic… Rayshawn Buchanan: type of performance offensively, you know, for that to happen, but either… nevertheless, they capitalized when they needed to. And it's… it's… it sucks, because… Rayshawn Buchanan: It's like… I just don't understand how… Rayshawn Buchanan: You can turn over the ball 5 times… Rayshawn Buchanan: And some of those guys are still on the team.
2:13 Rayshawn Buchanan: I mean, we can get into that, but I just… I'm blown away. Blown away, by the boneheaded place. Blown away. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, I mean, I think that's a good place to start, right? Like, back in the old days, Bill Belichick, if a running back fumbled twice in the game, you'd never see them again. And then they would draft a running back that actually wasn't that fast or good, but never fumbled the ball, Ben Jarvis Green Ellis, and he would be the new guy. Mike Marcangelo: So let's talk about the running back problem that we have. And I would say the positives still outweigh the negatives for the running backs, right? We have, obviously we have Ramondre Stevenson, you got Antonio Gibson, you got Travion Henderson. The real big problem for me Mike Marcangelo: is not, the, you know, the two fumbles by Ramondre and the one by, by Gibson.
2:57 Mike Marcangelo: It's the fact that that really didn't lead to an increase of usage or productivity, for Travion. Mike Marcangelo: And, like, he's the guy, and we know that he can't be an every-week 3-down back, but when you have issues clearly holding onto the fucking football, and this isn't new for Ramadre, this happened last year, too. So, this is an issue now. Mike Marcangelo: You have, like, you have probably one of the most electric Mike Marcangelo: Running backs taken, in the last couple of years. Rayshawn Buchanan: Why don't… like, why don't you go to him? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I don't know what's going on, I mean, and I don't know whether it's something they want him to pay his dues, like, I don't know what it is, but it's like, dude, like… Rayshawn Buchanan: You… you were in the business of winning games, not… Rayshawn Buchanan: Just waiting for guys to develop and see what happens.
3:47 Rayshawn Buchanan: And right now, it's just looking like they're waiting for him to develop, and it's just like, dog, he's someone that can produce. You saw in the preseason, you know, with him returning kicks, like, he's a dynamic playmaker, and… Rayshawn Buchanan: Josh has done well with that type of running back, so I'm just like, I'm not understanding why… Rayshawn Buchanan: he's not out there, you know, catching, you know, those angle routes, or, you know, running a wheel route, you know, you know, past the safety. Like, he can get there. And then he's… he's only fumbled, I think, twice in his time at Ohio State. Like, he's the curve with the football, so… Rayshawn Buchanan: Like I said, it was just alarming that, you know, he didn't get more touches. But I think you alluded to this the last time we talked about this.
4:35 Rayshawn Buchanan: Drake May, as talented as he is, should not be your leading rusher. Mike Marcangelo: Right, again, that was my next point. Again, you have a three-headed monster, as we've been, you know, told in the running back, in the backfield with, between Gibson, Henderson, and Stevenson. Mike Marcangelo: And again, Drake May, 7 carries, 45 yards. He led the team. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right. Now, I will say. Mike Marcangelo: Some of his runs were just… Mike Marcangelo: were just awesome to watch. And it is… it is cool to see, you know, Mike Marcangelo: I think he's being… he's definitely being, more protective with the football when he's running, obviously. Mike Marcangelo: I love to see the little bursts he has once he clears the corner on the outside, because he definitely has it, and the cool part about him is, like, he has all the intangibles. He's got everything. It's a matter of… Mike Marcangelo: Is the game going to slow down enough for him?
5:28 Mike Marcangelo: like, you know, and will that happen quick enough? That he can be the guy that we think he's gonna be? But no, it's a problem, and I think it… Rayshawn Buchanan: In terms of the backfield. Mike Marcangelo: do you expect them to go, Travion, or do you think, do you think Vrabel's gonna stick with Ramondre? Rayshawn Buchanan: I had to cut from Andre, like, and that, like, and once again. Mike Marcangelo: In case you wanted to know who was running our Twitter account on Sunday, you're talking to him. Rayshawn Buchanan: No, no, that's… Mike Marcangelo: That'd be great. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'd cut them. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'd cut him. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, you know, y'all tell me every other show that you could find a running back out there in the street, so, like, go cut them. Like, once again.
6:12 Mike Marcangelo: And I have them. Rayshawn Buchanan: No, right, but bro, what I'm saying is that I… There was no bigger supporter. Rayshawn Buchanan: of Stevenson on the show than me. Like, I'm… once again, so… so for me to get to that point lets you know where I'm at with that. Once again, tried to defend it last year. Rayshawn Buchanan: try to say, you know, you know, maybe, you know, whatever was going on, but I can't defend what I saw on Sunday. Once again, he was really good in the Miami game, so, you know, great, awesome. But we're getting to a point where his good… Rayshawn Buchanan: Play does not outweigh as bad. Rayshawn Buchanan: And… if that's the case, Then it should cut ties. Rayshawn Buchanan: And, once again, can't you just be… Rayshawn Buchanan: Can you be David Montgomery? Can you just be that? Once again, I don't need Barry Sanders, I don't need Emma Smith, I don't need Adrian Peterson. Once again, it'd be great if he became that. It'd be great. But can you just be someone like David Montgomery? Someone that's gonna be very serviceable, that can get the job done, Rayshawn Buchanan: And, you know, run really hard every time. Can you do that? Because if not, then you don't need to be here.
7:19 Rayshawn Buchanan: Period. Mike Marcangelo: I mean, yeah, that's the comp that we're looking for, right? Is you want… you want, Trevion to be Gibbs, and we need Rolandre to be Montgomery. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, right. Mike Marcangelo: or just a… just maybe even, like, a light version of that. I'll take any… I'll take 80% of that at this point. Mike Marcangelo: But it just feels like the running game, which should be something that they can focus on right now, especially when Drake's under pressure as often as he is. Mike Marcangelo: that it's… it's just not a leading focus for them. That doesn't make any sense to me. Mike Marcangelo: Bright spot? Well, let's talk about one more negative. Mike Marcangelo: You're gonna lose every game that Drake has two turnovers.
8:03 Mike Marcangelo: strictly because you're not good enough to beat teams, really any teams, I mean, there are, like, 4 or 5 I can name. One of them I think we're playing this week. But… Mike Marcangelo: Listen. Mike Marcangelo: as I, you know, we talked about this last time we were on together, I had this conversation with Karen. Mike Marcangelo: We have 22 really good players. Really good. Mike Marcangelo: But it's a 53-man roster, and we're not that deep. And when you put yourself behind the eight ball, you know, Drake goes 28-37, pretty good, two touchdowns, one pick, the pick wasn't great, but that fumble, like, you can't… he can't turn the ball over twice. Mike Marcangelo: And moreover, this team is nowhere good enough to have 5 turnovers and still expect to win a game.
8:47 Rayshawn Buchanan: Right. But what's crazy, they turned it over 5 times. Rayshawn Buchanan: And you still had a chance to win the game. Mike Marcangelo: They dominated the game. Rayshawn Buchanan: Dominate, dominate the game! Rayshawn Buchanan: And I'm just like, yo, like, the second half was… they finally woke up in the second half and said, okay, we're gonna move the ball, we're gonna throw it here. But… Rayshawn Buchanan: my takeaway from it is… and I shared this stat with you guys earlier about just where his usage rate is, you know, with Drake May, and just, his passing stats, is at the top end of the league. Rayshawn Buchanan: According to NextGen Stats, I want the ball in his hands. Rayshawn Buchanan: live and die with 10, just going. Like, he's clearly your best offensive player already.
9:34 Rayshawn Buchanan: Live with the results. Live with the results. Once again, Cam Hayward is an All-Pro in this league. Like, he made a play. Yep. That's the… the interception, okay, it happens. The fumble, once again, that was an issue at times last year, obviously. Rayshawn Buchanan: But, yeah, to, to… Rayshawn Buchanan: Kim Hayward's an all-pro, so I'm not… I'm not gonna sit here and get on him for that. But yeah, it's just, like I said, put the ball in his hands, Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm also out on Pop Douglas as well. Mike Marcangelo: Okay, I was… this is great, I was… it's like you read the imaginary show notes.
10:14 Rayshawn Buchanan: No, yeah. Mike Marcangelo: On the positive side, Drake May spread the ball around. He completed a pass to 9 different receivers throughout the course of this game. Obviously, he favors Hunter Henry, I think that connection's great. Hunter, 8 for 90, and 2 touchdowns. That's, I mean, that's a great day from a tight end. Mike Marcangelo: Pop Douglas, man, on 4th down, if your route does not take you to the sticks or beyond, I don't know what you're doing. Furthermore. Mike Marcangelo: If it takes you close. Mike Marcangelo: You bet your ass you don't move backwards. I could not believe that he did that, and I'd love to, like, take me through your emotions as you're watching that.
10:56 Rayshawn Buchanan: So, I see him catch it, so I'm excited that he caught it. Rayshawn Buchanan: And… Rayshawn Buchanan: I see him try to make a play, so for those that's not listening on audio, and just, you know, or that's listening on audio, I'm putting my air quotes up, and he tried to make a play. Rayshawn Buchanan: And I'm just like, you try to make a play? Rayshawn Buchanan: And I think someone was trying to justify it saying that, oh, it was like a wide receiver screen. Rayshawn Buchanan: No, it wasn't. Blockers weren't… blockers were not set up. This wasn't a… Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, there was a wide receiver screen without blockers. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, this wasn't a Wes Walker bubble screening, or, you know, this wasn't one of those. Rayshawn Buchanan: just fall forward. You had the first down. This is up there with Jacoby Myers from a few years ago. This is up there.
11:41 Rayshawn Buchanan: The level of… does the level of ineptitude just… how do you not fall forward? And then you sit there in the press… in the post-game presser, like, oh, you know, just, you know, it was just a play. It's like, you sound stupid because you're playing stupid. Rayshawn Buchanan: And… but I'm… I'm out. I'm out. Like, where's… where's Chisholm? Where's Kyle Williams? Like, I think… I think Kyle Williams has more yards than… than, than Pop, or something like that. Like, it's… it's wild. So… Rayshawn Buchanan: They don't… they don't use Stephon Davis, like, I just… it's… there's so much going on. I'm just like, it, it's… it's really a joke. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, but yeah. But I do… I do think… I do think Stephon Diggs is being used for one of the main purposes that he was brought here, and… because, I mean, last year, you're not going to see a stat line where Drake May is spreading the ball around to 9 different receivers, right? And he can do that because now Keyshawn Booty's not going up against their number ones.
12:37 Rayshawn Buchanan: Neither, you know, neither is Pop Douglas. Mike Marcangelo: So, I mean, listen, Stephon Diggs, 3 for 23, Mike Marcangelo: It's, it's gotta be, it's gotta be better than that. Rayshawn Buchanan: And Keyshawn Booty, 2 for 28. Like, why do those guys only have 3 targets? So, Booty had 3 targets, Diggs had 3 targets. 3 targets, 3 catches. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, what are we doing? What are we doing? Mike Marcangelo: Well, I mean, Hunter Henry had 11 targets and had 8 catches. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, so once again, listen, you know, we had different opinions on Hunter Hunter when we got here, but he's been awesome since he's been here, so he's great, he's awesome. I'm not mad at it. It's typical job. Mike Marcangelo: Was I excited and you were upset, or was it the other way around?
13:21 Rayshawn Buchanan: No, I was more excited you was calling him Mr. Glass. Mike Marcangelo: Okay. I was like, there's gotta be a reason why he brings this up every time I talk about Hunter Henry, but yeah. Rayshawn Buchanan: Well, no, because… no, but all… but, I mean, this is on both of us. We both thought Jonah Swift was going to be a problem here, and he wasn't, unfortunately. So, Rayshawn Buchanan: But I just thought that in Josh's offense, I was like, tight ends do well. They just have. Rayshawn Buchanan: And Henry did well in 2021, with Josh Aaron, and obviously now he's doing well with him here again. So, Rayshawn Buchanan: it's just a tight-end friendly system. It just… it just has been, up here, so whether it was Dawn from Fourier to whoever, right? Daniel Graham, whoever, they just, they just had guys that could play in that, in that position, so… But yeah, that's not enough.
14:10 Mike Marcangelo: It's just not, and it's just, like, to me. Rayshawn Buchanan: They're definitely… you can tell they're better, like, that's not debatable, they're definitely better. Rayshawn Buchanan: But to still have the same record as you had last year, at this time, is super infuriating. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, no, listen, I 100% agree. I think my hope was that this team got to 8 or 9 wins. I did predict on our AFC versus NFC show that the Patriots would have more wins than the Cowboys, and I'm gonna stick to that. Mike Marcangelo: But no, like, Stefan needs to… he can't have 3 targets. Mike Marcangelo: Like, you gotta target him at least 6 times, because odds are he's gonna catch the ball 5 of those times, if it's catchable.
14:54 Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, and that best was saying, whether you put him in a slot. Rayshawn Buchanan: whether you put him… because, to me, he's not a guy that's gonna burn someone at this point in his career, right? Nope. Put him on the inside, like Almiron St. Brown, and let him do the Michael Thomas thing, and just catch 5 UR slants, and be a possession guy at this moment. He could easily get 70 catches off that, easily! Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Rayshawn Buchanan: like, let him do that. And once again, he's already had 100 yards, which I feel like, you know what I'm saying? I'm like, it probably took 9 weeks for someone to get 100 yards last year. You know what I'm saying? So I'm just like, it's crazy, man, but I don't know, I just think, to me, they're underutilizing some guys, and… I know it's about scheme, I know that Pittsburgh probably had… Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, digs and Booty on their, Rayshawn Buchanan: You know, on their game plan, so that they try to scheme… scheme away from those guys, but… Rayshawn Buchanan: Live and die with your best players. Period.
15:52 Rayshawn Buchanan: Period. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, no, I'm with you, but I mean, to your point, through 3 games, the Patriots have 4 100-yard receivers so far. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah. So, I mean, Drake… I mean, Drake, Drake is 250 yards away from, sorry, 225 yards away from 1,000 yards. Mike Marcangelo: So, I mean, he's probably gonna get to 4,000 passing notes. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, he's… he's dealing, like, that's… but that's what I'm saying, like, he's… he's… Like, he, like, clearly… Rayshawn Buchanan: like, he's, like, once again, still… I guess we're still waiting on a signature moment, like we talked about… that was our big thing with Mac Jones. We're still waiting on that, per se. It would have been in Tennessee, but, you know, they… they tricked that game off.
16:40 Rayshawn Buchanan: But it definitely would have been Tennessee, that would have been… that would have been a, you know, that moment there. But yeah, I don't know, but I'm at a point now, even I was like this last year, he was already their best player last year. Live and die with 10, and just go from there. The line is a little bit better. Rayshawn Buchanan: your receiving core is better. You have a pass rush now, like, Harold Learnji's been awesome. Mike Marcangelo: know it, because Aaron Rodgers wasn't sacked once. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, in this game, but it's just, I'm saying, overall, you could tell that they, you know, they get there for the most part. And once again, I don't know what happened on Sunday. Like I said, there were so many things… Rayshawn Buchanan: that went left for them Sunday, that… like I said, it's a miracle that they even lost by 7.
17:29 Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, pismo… Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, I mean, because if you look at the stat line, this could really go either way, right? Like, if you just look at just team sets, first downs, Patriots 26, Steelers 17. Third down efficiency, 6 of 13 versus 4 of 9. Mike Marcangelo: Total yards, 369 to 203. Mike Marcangelo: You just take those, and you're like, wow, the Pats fucking ran away with this one. Rayshawn Buchanan: Nope. Mike Marcangelo: And then you go to… and then you just go to turnovers. 5-1. Mike Marcangelo: Penalties. 7 to 8. Mike Marcangelo: There it is. It's literally the turnover game. And by the way, like, we have to talk about the penalties, too, because… Mike Marcangelo: It's… that needs to be fixed. We're going through almost a quarter of the way through the season now, and they're averaging, like, 6 or 7 penalties per game.
18:17 Rayshawn Buchanan: But, once again, we… it's been undisciplined football since 2020. Rayshawn Buchanan: You could, even when Bill was here, it was… it started to deteriorate. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, undisciplined football's a 2020, and… Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, I just… I don't… I don't understand it. I really don't. Rayshawn Buchanan: I really don't. Like, it blows my mind, Rayshawn Buchanan: How bad and how undisciplined they've looked since 2020. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like… but, you know, it's okay, because you don't want to rebuild. Mike Marcangelo: Officially, yes. Let's talk about. Rayshawn Buchanan: applicant. Mike Marcangelo: Let's talk about Aaron Rodgers' stat line, okay? Let's just say that you didn't watch the game, you did not see it. 16-23, 139 yards, 2 TDs and a pick.
19:03 Mike Marcangelo: He's trash. Mike Marcangelo: I think he's trash. I've hated him forever. I've never questioned his physical abilities. Mike Marcangelo: I mean, the cliff is here, and we've seen it. Rayshawn Buchanan: And they have 64 yards on the ground. Mike Marcangelo: Correct. 26 carries for 64 yards. They averaged 2.5 yards a carry. We averaged 4.1, and again, you lost the game. Rayshawn Buchanan: But yeah, that's our style. Mike Marcangelo: Were you expecting something different from, from the Pittsburgh offense, just given what we've been seeing over the. Rayshawn Buchanan: They did the Jets, and yeah, I was.
19:44 Rayshawn Buchanan: But like I said, I… clearly, like, our defense, for the most part, showed up. Once again, you just… when you're given a short field, and you're coming back on the field right after, but they won the time of possession. Like, they was out there, they… we won the time of possession. Rayshawn Buchanan: By a mile. So, it's just like… but yeah, I would… I was shocked they didn't come out here and have a little more, you know, a little more juice, but… I… I don't know, man. I… I just, to me… Rayshawn Buchanan: If you had told me in any part of Aaron Rodgers' career, that he comes into here. Rayshawn Buchanan: Those are under M150? Rayshawn Buchanan: And they win? Rayshawn Buchanan: I would've been… I would have looked just like you was crazy. And the fact that they came here, and he had a very subpar performance.
20:31 Rayshawn Buchanan: To say the least. And you lose that game, like, it's, it's, it's, it's commonly. Rayshawn Buchanan: Under… under 150 and a turnover, and they still won. Rayshawn Buchanan: But this is the thing, and someone shared this stat with me earlier. Rayshawn Buchanan: And Mike Vrabel's last 27 games as a head coach, he's now 7-20. Rayshawn Buchanan: So, to do with the information what you will, but… Mike Marcangelo: So you'd rather have dried mayoes, what you're saying? Rayshawn Buchanan: I just want someone that can do something there. Mike Marcangelo: No, no, no way are you even. Rayshawn Buchanan: No, no, no, no, I'm saying, but it's unfortunate that that's what… Rayshawn Buchanan: that that's another… like, that shouldn't have been the loss, that should have been the 20th loss of 27 games. That's what I'm really getting at. And it shouldn't have been that. Like, that should have been another win under his belt, should have been the first home victory of the year, and they tricked off another game because I'm just looking for football. But that's coaching.
21:23 Rayshawn Buchanan: That's coaching. The penalty is the… that's coaching. It is. Just like last year, it was coaching. Mike Marcangelo: But do you think penalties are the reasons why they lost this game? I will say that two penalties kept one drive alive. Mike Marcangelo: But I think 5 turnovers and 2 of those led to touchdowns, that's it. That has to be it. Rayshawn Buchanan: Well, sure, but this… the turnovers, for sure, was more glaring, but it's the… Rayshawn Buchanan: I don't know, and we were spoiled here for so long to see… Rayshawn Buchanan: The other team always find a way to screw up here. Always. Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Rayshawn Buchanan: So the fact that we've been… Rayshawn Buchanan: or now become the laughingstock again.
22:03 Rayshawn Buchanan: It's a joke. It's a joke. And… Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm just… I'm sick of losing games at Foxboro. I'm sick of losing games up there. I just am. It's one thing you get smoked on the road, okay, whatever, that happens. Rayshawn Buchanan: But the fact that teams feel so comfortable to come into fight, and I keep, I keep saying this, people are so comfortable. Rayshawn Buchanan: But it's across the board here in Boston. Rayshawn Buchanan: It's not just with the Patriots. People coming to Fenway, even though the wrestlers had a better home record this year than they have had in the past, but… Rayshawn Buchanan: People coming to Fenway, comfortable. Coming to TD, for the Bruins and Celtics, comfortable. I don't understand it. And I'm pretty sure, and I don't watch them, but I'm pretty sure people coming to Gillette for the Revolution, and they get comfortable.
22:49 Rayshawn Buchanan: I just, I don't, I don't understand how you come up here, and you kick your feet up in their house, eat the nachos, have a couple of beers, couple of hot dogs, maybe some lemonade, kiss the baby. Rayshawn Buchanan: And then, you know, you get a win. It's unbelievable. Unbelievable to me. Unbelievable. Mike Marcangelo: The Patriots are… 15 and 28 at home. Mike Marcangelo: Since Tom Brady left. Rayshawn Buchanan: 15 and 28. Mike Marcangelo: That includes 500. I mean, I mean, that's less than 50%, yeah. That is a 3-16 since the start of the 2023 season. Rayshawn Buchanan: 316. The only 316 I know is the Stone Cold Steve Wall.
23:33 Rayshawn Buchanan: Well, yeah, pretty much, but talk about your Psalms, talk about your Johns 3.16. Well, Gillette 3.16 says you just came in there and got a victory. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, you just. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah. Mike Marcangelo: my ass. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, you just get my ass right. Crazy. Unbelievable. Rayshawn Buchanan: Unbelievable. Mike Marcangelo: It's argu… you know, listen, the Patriots defense is missing, their star playmaker, obviously Christian Gonzalez. Mike Marcangelo: I think… Mike Marcangelo: I don't know that him being there on Saturday, or on Sunday would have helped, because if you look… just… just look at what we did to their receiving core. The leading receiver is Calvin Austin, 3 catches, 34 yards. Jalen Warren, 5 catches, 34 yards. Mike Marcangelo: DK Metcalf, 3 catches, 32 hits.
24:14 Mike Marcangelo: I mean… Rayshawn Buchanan: Hmm? Mike Marcangelo: The problem was, is that you invested so much in this offseason. Mike Marcangelo: To get the pass rush back. Specifically for a game like this. Rayshawn Buchanan: Hmm? Mike Marcangelo: And because Rodgers can still get rid of the ball so quickly, I mean… Mike Marcangelo: it just wasn't there. I mean, again, he dropped back 20, wait, three times. Mike Marcangelo: And he had zero sacks for zero yards. Rayshawn Buchanan: Hmm? Mike Marcangelo: That can't happen. Like, Milton Williams, what are you doing? Rayshawn Buchanan: Especially at 55 years old, yeah, it's crazy. Rayshawn Buchanan: Whoa. Mike Marcangelo: What's going on with that? What's going on with Christian Gonzalez?
24:56 Rayshawn Buchanan: I think that they want to give him a full week. I don't agree with it, but I think they wanted to give him a full week to have practice and then come back against Carolina. Rayshawn Buchanan: I hope it's just that, I hope it's not more than that. I'm getting frustrated, because I want to see him on the field. I don't want him lumped in with guys that could have been great here, and we don't see it because of injury. Rayshawn Buchanan: So yeah, I hope that he's come back and he's ready to rock and roll. Rayshawn Buchanan: once again, they got, they got Ted McMillan, they have, Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, they got Xavier Leguette from, South Carolina. Rayshawn Buchanan: I forget who this hiding is, but, you know, so they got some players there, but not to the point that they should come into here and win.
25:43 Rayshawn Buchanan: So, I… yeah, I don't know, but hopefully he comes back. Mike Marcangelo: Once again, even if it's the packages, but hopefully he should be out there Sunday. He should be. Before we get into previewing the game and making our weekly picks. Mike Marcangelo: what was… and the… you can't say turnovers, so that's… that is… that cannot be it. What was the… the number… what was the biggest issue you saw for the Patriots team, against the Steelers? Rayshawn Buchanan: The lack of pass rush. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right? Like a patchwork. Like I say, you have to get there. You have to get there.
26:24 Rayshawn Buchanan: I know it's hard to hurry up someone as good as Aaron Rodgers, because he doesn't get sped up, especially at this stage of his career. But you gotta get there at least once. Gotta get there. Rayshawn Buchanan: Because him having to clean pocket. Now, granted, he didn't pick you apart like he could, like he can, at times. Mike Marcangelo: Like, he could've. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, like, yeah, you know what I'm saying? So that wasn't the case, but… or even if he just did what he did at week one. Like, because that's what it felt like. You would have thought that, damn, he came in here and did what he did week one against us, and that was not the case. Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Rayshawn Buchanan: I think he was just motivated to go, and hey, I'm happy that he came out here and said, hey, I'm gonna give the Jets whatever I can give at this moment in my career, and he did. So, cool. So it's good to know that he can still, you know, give us, you know, somewhat of a performance when he needs to, but… Mike Marcangelo: It's just… the frustrating part is, is, like, you saw what happened to him in Seattle when he was under arrest.
27:19 Mike Marcangelo: He can't break away anymore. Mike Marcangelo: It can't… I mean, he can still throw on the run better than, I'd say, like, a third of the NFL can. Mike Marcangelo: But he's lost that. Rayshawn Buchanan: It's actually pretty ridiculous how he still can sling it from… like, it's wild. Like… Yeah. Yeah, him on the run, yeah, is… is… is… Rayshawn Buchanan: Still… he's, yeah, still very elite. Still very elite. Mike Marcangelo: you didn't even put him in a position to have to do that. That's the aggravating part. You spent, what was it, $100 million in the offseason on your pass rush? Mike Marcangelo: And… You couldn't get a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers. Rayshawn Buchanan: Mmm. Mike Marcangelo: as Phil Simms used to say, every single fucking week, off the spot.
28:01 Rayshawn Buchanan: We've seen Brady at 41 not get tackled at times either, so… I mean… Mike Marcangelo: You know, but you just. Rayshawn Buchanan: And Brady was still stationary, you know what I'm saying? He wasn't running. So… Mike Marcangelo: I refuse to compare the two. Rayshawn Buchanan: No, I'm talking about at the age, I'm saying, like, he was… he just wasn't… he wasn't mobile. That's not… Mike Marcangelo: Sure. Rayshawn Buchanan: Well, that's all I'm saying, of course. Once again, I've always thought that Brady was… Rayshawn Buchanan: better than Ryan. Like, the only person to me that you can even… Rayshawn Buchanan: put in the… I mean, people are gonna say Mahomes, but it's not to me, it's Payne Manning. You put them… but other than that, I'm not… I'm not here. If you ever argue with somebody else, I'm not… I'm not listening. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, we can go down too much of a rabbit hole, but, like, just to… just to quote DK says, I'll, like.
28:44 Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, but I wanted to say this too, and I hope I didn't lose my point, but oh, it was something with the offense. Oh, they're going on 4th downs. Rayshawn Buchanan: I loved that. Loved it. Loved it. Me too. Loved it, loved it. I need more of that. Like… Mike Marcangelo: Four of five. Four of five. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I need more of that. So, Mike Rayro, get your, you know, get your play calls together, get, you know, get the aggressiveness going, get that flowing. Once again, that shows in your team that you believe in them, and that they can go get a first down. So, I'm here for it. I'm here for it. And once again, you should have been 5 for 5. Should have been 5 for 5. Should have been. Rayshawn Buchanan: Should've been 5 for 5. Rayshawn Buchanan: But, you know, you have… Rayshawn Buchanan: I just wish that, you know, especially with Bill Parcells being there, I wish that Rabel had went full Parcells and called Demario Douglas she, like he did with Terry Glenn.
29:38 Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, that… Mike Marcangelo: Oh, you can't do that. In 2025, you get canceled, too. Mike Marcangelo: Can't do that. Rayshawn Buchanan: hey, he canceled his channel, so it's okay. It's alright. It's alright. It's alright. Mike Marcangelo: So, the Carolina Panthers come into… come into Gillette Stadium, this week. Mike Marcangelo: And they are… they are fresh off of a 30-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Again, just think about this stat line. The Carolina Panthers beat the Atlanta Falcons 30-0. Bryce Young was 16-24 for 121 yards. No touchdowns, no picks. Mike Marcangelo: Their rushers ran 30 times for 110 yards.
30:19 Mike Marcangelo: I mean, This offense is an offense that we should be able to shut down. Mike Marcangelo: But it's at home, so now I'm questioning things. Rayshawn Buchanan: If Bryce Young comes in with, like, Steve Birdline, or Jake DeLoam. Rayshawn Buchanan: Or even Cam Newton's prime. Mike Marcangelo: Ready, tester, ready. Rayshawn Buchanan: I forgot, I forgot he played. Wow. Rayshawn Buchanan: if their running backs come in, like Deshaun Foster, Steven Davis, Mike Tolbert, like, if anybody… Mike Marcangelo: Christian McCaffrey. Rayshawn Buchanan: McCaffrey, like, they come in. Mike Marcangelo: Just all day. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm going to… I'm going to… Rayshawn Buchanan: like, flip my wig. I'm going to, because it's like, it's unbelievable. I'm telling you, teams in general come up here real comfortable.
31:10 Rayshawn Buchanan: It's unbelievable how comfortable teams are in this building. It's wild to me. Rayshawn Buchanan: is wild. Mike Marcangelo: If the Carolina Panthers come in here, and they get a win. Mike Marcangelo: Rayshawn Buchanan is going to set up the TV stand that he has for his TV… that he's had for a couple of years so far, just to fucking smash it. Just to smash it. You can't lose to Bryce, you can't lose to fucking Chubba. Mike Marcangelo: I… I just reject. Trevo Hubbard? Rayshawn Buchanan: I like him a lot. I like Chuck Barber, I like Chuck a lot. I think he's… Rayshawn Buchanan: What do you like about them? Rayshawn Buchanan: I think he's a decent running back, but it's just like, not… I don't care about his name. I think he's a decent running back. Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, but like I said, but he's not someone that should come in here and give him a 50, I know that. That shouldn't happen.
31:55 Rayshawn Buchanan: So, they better figure it out come Sunday. Mike Marcangelo: What if… so, let me ask you a question. What if Bryce Shoem has a similar stat line? Let's just… let's just amp it up a little bit. Let's say he goes 21 of 29 for 225 yards, 1 touchdown, no picks. Chevo Hubbard goes 19 carries for 110 yards of a touchdown. Rayshawn Buchanan: they pop… they… Either… Rayshawn Buchanan: either it goes down to the wire, or Carolina probably wins that game, which is insane to me, but that's… once again, they just won 30 to nothing. Rayshawn Buchanan: Atlanta's not very good, but it's just, like, I would like to think that we're better than Atlanta. Rayshawn Buchanan: I would like to think that.
32:37 Mike Marcangelo: I mean, are we? Offensively, we are. We should be. We are. We're better offensively. We don't have as many weapons, but somehow we are better offensively than they are. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I… Mike Marcangelo: I mean, I'd take… I would take Drake over Penix. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right. Mike Marcangelo: Every single day of the week. Rayshawn Buchanan: We put… Mike Marcangelo: I would… Rayshawn Buchanan: 71 years old, so yeah. Mike Marcangelo: I'd take Bijan over any one of our running backs. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm sure. Mike Marcangelo: And I'd take Drake London, Darnell Mooney, and Kyle Pitts. Mike Marcangelo: Over… I would say most of our skilled players do. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm… listen, I'm… if it doesn't work for Kyle Pitts this year, I told… I said this in the. Mike Marcangelo: Bring him up here. Rayshawn Buchanan: Listen, go get him. Elliot, go see… go get him a fifth rounder for him, and call it a day. Fifth rounder, even take off the hoop or two, take him. Take him, and bring him back home to Atlanta. Bring him back home.
33:30 Mike Marcangelo: And you get… then you get Hunter Henry and Kyle Pitts, and Josh, and Josh's system. Rayshawn Buchanan: Buy me up. Rayshawn Buchanan: Sign me up. Like, I'm here for it. I… yeah. Mike Marcangelo: Is there a chance that Kyle Pitts turns into Johnny Smith? Rayshawn Buchanan: Carrying me, if he was there? Mike Marcangelo: No, I mean, just in general. I mean, Janu had one big gear calipitz hasn't had that. Rayshawn Buchanan: He's, he's, he's in, he's in that mold, Rayshawn Buchanan: I think he's better than Jono Smith, like… Mike Marcangelo: should be better. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, you know what I'm saying? I think he, you know, I mean, but he's also still young enough where… Rayshawn Buchanan: he still can make that impact, you know what I'm saying? Like, he's, what, 25, I think? Mike Marcangelo: Yep.
34:10 Rayshawn Buchanan: So yeah, I would… I would… I would absolutely look to go get them if I can. If they're… if they're out of it by week 8, which is very feasible, I would… I would get Arthur Blink on the phone, or whoever, Thomas DeMuto, whoever's down there, hey, Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, we'd like to give y'all a fifth in Austin Hooper for Kyle Pitts. Mike Marcangelo: Probably wouldn't give them Austin Hooper. Rayshawn Buchanan: That's what I'm saying, yeah Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah. Don't, don't, no, no, don't give Austin Hoover, just give him a fifth round. Rayshawn Buchanan: Oh, but I mean, yeah, I mean, that'd be cool, too. I just… I'm just saying, to me, if I'm them, I'm just like, I want to play her back, like, I'm not just gonna… like, I need to play her back. You know what I'm saying? So, Rayshawn Buchanan: like, Hooper, you know, I think Hooper has been somewhat productive here.
34:59 Rayshawn Buchanan: once again, I think that with Pittsburgh being this offense. Rayshawn Buchanan: like, would do wonders for Drake May. Like, I got… Mike Marcangelo: Good. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, absolutely. Mike Marcangelo: right. Should do wonders. Alright. What are your… what are the… what are the top two things that the Panthers need to do in order to come into Gillette Stadium and win? Rayshawn Buchanan: be competent. Rayshawn Buchanan: be confident and run the football. But this, so, this is why I keep saying this, and I know, you know, you've gotten on me, Dave's gotten on me, I think even Bobby at times. Rayshawn Buchanan: But this is why I keep saying about the run sets up the pass.
35:41 Rayshawn Buchanan: When you're able to run the football, it opens up everything, because they're so worried about what's gonna happen in that, in that, you know, between the gaps, that now you could throw something over the top, even if it's just a little crossing route, you could just throw it over the top. Rayshawn Buchanan: the run sets up the pass, like, you gotta have people run the ball. So, like. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, we do. Rayshawn Buchanan: We do, but no, I'm saying, you gotta have a guy that can run it, so… But yeah, but be confident. Mike Marcangelo: And… Rayshawn Buchanan: Just don't turn the ball over 5 times, and you could come in here and get a win. Rayshawn Buchanan: So… Mike Marcangelo: Okay, now let's get just a little more positivity here. How confident are you in the Patriots giving the victory? Obviously, don't pick them yet. But what do you think they need to do? Like, do they need to do anything special in order to beat the Carolina Panthers?
36:31 Rayshawn Buchanan: Not special, but just, just make, just make timely plays. Rayshawn Buchanan: play sound football, right? So, whether that's getting to the, you know, make sure you tackle, make sure you're not missing assignments, Rayshawn Buchanan: So once again, just literally doing the basics of what got you to the league. Doing the basics should win you the game. Rayshawn Buchanan: Do your job. We've heard that for a million years here. Do your job, you win the game. That simple. Rayshawn Buchanan: because that was, again, they've gotten better offensively, they've shown a pass rush at times, you're possibly getting your best player back on defense, you know, come Sunday, so… Rayshawn Buchanan: even if he is just in… even if he just plays 15 to 20 snaps, like, you're better with him on the field, because everyone goes back into their natural position. But I also… I meant to say this, too, because I just… it slipped my mind, but I know you thought about it, you just forgot to bring it up.
37:27 Rayshawn Buchanan: at the Wish You Saw Sunday. Rayshawn Buchanan: you cannot tell me that Jabril Peppers could not still have made an impact on this team. Mike Marcangelo: Well, I was thinking about that too, but he's not fast enough. He's just not what they're looking for. I mean… Rayshawn Buchanan: Someone that can hit someone and possibly knock the ball out, and… no, no, of course not. Why not? Mike Marcangelo: I mean, what are you gonna do? You gonna put him one-on-one with DK Metcalf? Rayshawn Buchanan: No, I mean, that… I mean, they put Carlton Davis, but Carlton Davis don't do much. Once again, I'm not a fan of him yet. He has to earn my respect. But. Mike Marcangelo: Well, week one did a really hard… I mean, he… he made it really fucking tough for you.
38:11 Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, pretty much, pretty much. But no, they… it looks like they're putting Mapple on those guys now. Marte Mapple's the guy that they're putting on the tight ends and the DK Metcalf type of receivers, so… Rayshawn Buchanan: You have that, but once again, you just talked about you got 23 out of 53. Rayshawn Buchanan: That's a little… maybe a little over 40%, maybe? 45%-ish players? Rayshawn Buchanan: That's not good enough. Rayshawn Buchanan: It's not good. It's not. So, there's no way… you're not telling me that Gibralt peppers couldn't have made some type of impact here. Rayshawn Buchanan: Even if it was a lemonade roll. No way. Mike Marcangelo: Didn't he si- didn't he sign with Pittsburgh? Rayshawn Buchanan: Sure did, that's why I brought it up, yeah. Mike Marcangelo: Yep.
38:51 Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, I'm saying, he played well for them on Sunday. Mike Marcangelo: I just… for some reason, I just have flashbacks of John Deuce Smith cooking Jabil Peppers, when he was on the Dolphins, like. Mike Marcangelo: Four times. Rayshawn Buchanan: But Jonathan Smith, when, when, when… Rayshawn Buchanan: when he produced, like, he was actually a pretty decent tenant, which is why he got the money he got here. Rayshawn Buchanan: he could play, it just, unfortunately, it just was too much up here, unfortunately, but he could play. Everywhere else he's produced. You know, but yeah. So… Mike Marcangelo: You don't seem too positive, which is my favorite version of you, Mr. Hollywood. So let's run down week 4 of the NFL, shall we?
39:34 Rayshawn Buchanan: Let's do it. Mike Marcangelo: Seattle, visits Arizona. That will be, Thursday Night Football. Currently, Seattle is a, is a 1.5 point favorite. Rayshawn Buchanan: So, who you got? Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm right away, Arizona. I think that they're… I know they lost James Carter, but, you know, what else is new? Unfortunately, he's always out, he's always injured. Rayshawn Buchanan: But I just think that they're a better team. I know that Seattle had a good win against, New Orleans on Sunday. They smoked them, but… Rayshawn Buchanan: Arizona and New Orleans, so I think that, obviously, pick them would be in one and a half, obviously, but, I'm gonna ride with Arizona. Mike Marcangelo: Minnesota travels to Pittsburgh, well, no, I actually don't think that's true. Minnesota and Pittsburgh both travel to Ireland for a 9.30 a.m. start. Minnesota is favored by 2.5 points. What do you got?
40:27 Rayshawn Buchanan: I think Minnesota smokes them. I do. Rayshawn Buchanan: Aaron Rodgers is gonna be pissed to be over there. Mike Marcangelo: You think Carson Wentz is just gonna go off? Rayshawn Buchanan: I mean, we saw what happened Sunday. I'm not… he didn't go off Sunday, but I'm saying, but we saw them put up 50, almost. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, I… now, granted, it's a neutral… it's a neutral field, so we'll see what happens, but… Rayshawn Buchanan: Aaron Rodgers being 94 years old, going across the pond, like, I don't see a good, I don't see good football being produced from him, so I'm gonna ride with Minnesota. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, I'm gonna take Minnesota, too. That's just mostly because I fucking hate Aaron Rodgers, and I hope the Steelers lose every game. With Commanders at the Falcons at the 1 o'clock game, Commanders are only favored in this game by one and a half points, that doesn't make any sense.
41:12 Rayshawn Buchanan: comedy. My wife. Mike Marcangelo: That's cr- that- that's crazy. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, that's… that's a… that's a no-brainer, that's a no-doubter, like, Washington wins that. Mike Marcangelo: The problem is, though, Vegas usually knows something that we don't. They all… there's a reason why this over… you know, that the spread is… is this. Mike Marcangelo: I think that's really fucking laughable, though. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, one and a half is crazy. Mike Marcangelo: It's crazy. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, I'll take… I'll take the commanders, too. New Orleans travels up to Buffalo, Buffalo's favorite. Rayshawn Buchanan: That's crazy. That's just as crazy as the one and a half. That's crazy.
41:53 Mike Marcangelo: What do you think's crazier? What is least likely to happen? The Bills win by more than 16 points? Or that the Commanders win by less than a point? Rayshawn Buchanan: I still think it's the Bills, like, this is an NFL team, bro, like, 17 is crazy, like, that's wild. That's wild! 17 points, bro? That's a lot, like… Rayshawn Buchanan: like, you're probably gonna be on the line. Like, granted, New Orleans is not a good team, and we talked about this, like, we were spot on about New Orleans not being good. Rayshawn Buchanan: Obviously, the Bills are going to win, I just, I don't know… Rayshawn Buchanan: If there ever was a trap game, and I'm not saying a trap game, they're gonna lose, but I'll say a trap game, like, New Orleans might keep it close for a little bit, and then they get, they get blown out, but 17's a lot. That's a lot.
42:43 Mike Marcangelo: 16.5 points is wild, like you said, for two NFL themes. Rayshawn Buchanan: Damn. Mike Marcangelo: I also think that this is… this is a game that Josh Allen and the Bills have typically slept on. Rayshawn Buchanan: And almost lost. Mike Marcangelo: So if I were you, I would take New Orleans, for the spread, but I would take, you know, I would obviously pick the Buffalo women's game. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right. Mike Marcangelo: Cleveland at Detroit. Looks like the, you know, it looks like the Lions are back. Mike Marcangelo: Cleveland… Rayshawn Buchanan: Hmm? Mike Marcangelo: I mean, their offense is fucking anemic. Rayshawn Buchanan: How about that, though? And them coming back, Rayshawn Buchanan: and winning against Green Bay, I said, wow. Mike Marcangelo: Doesn't help my Jordan Love narrative, I can tell you that.
43:24 Rayshawn Buchanan: No, I mean, same here, but I'm like… but… but that's another quick aside, too, right? Rayshawn Buchanan: we're seeing a lot of mediocre quarterback play across the league. Like, if you're throwing for under 200, I want y'all to know, ladies and gentlemen, that's mediocre. There's nothing cool about… even 225, I'm like… Rayshawn Buchanan: anything 250 and above, I'm like, alright, but you're throwing barely 200 yards, like, you're not that good. It's not that good. Mike Marcangelo: Well, I think that the difference would be if you're, like, 11… if you're, like, 14 of 18 for 220 yards, that means that your team probably won that game handily. And you ran the ball. But if you're dropping back 27 times. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, and 11 to 27 for, like, 202? Like, that's… Mike Marcangelo: Or, like, Aaron Rodgers is 18 of 24, or 16 of 24 for $1.37? Like, you're out of your fucking mind? Are you out of your mind?
44:13 Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, right, right. And I'm just like, mind you, and Drake was 20 or 37, I'm like, dude, throw it 50 times. Like, what are we doing? Rayshawn Buchanan: I assume that you're taking Detroit? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yes, I mean, they're back, baby, they're back! Mike Marcangelo: Any chance, any chance we see, we have a Dylan Gabriel or a… or a Shadora Sanders sighting in this game? Rayshawn Buchanan: Might be Dylan Gabriel, but I think they're hell-bent on not letting Sugar play this year. Mike Marcangelo: So stupid. Rayshawn Buchanan: It is stupid, but I think they tried to stick it to him, which is unfortunate, but it is what it is. Mike Marcangelo: So, like, why draft him? Rayshawn Buchanan: who knows? I don't know, and I can't say because they felt the pressure, because it was in the fifth round, so it wasn't like… Mike Marcangelo: He would've… Mike Marcangelo: I'm just gonna double down on the take that I made in the offseason, like, before the draft. The perfect place for Shador would have been New Orleans.
45:01 Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Especially with what they got going on right now, like… Rayshawn Buchanan: You're telling me that Tyler Shaw and Spencer Rowler are the answers? Mike Marcangelo: No! No, you got, you got Kumar… Rayshawn Buchanan: I don't keep… Mike Marcangelo: Lave… Rayshawn Buchanan: Ew. Mike Marcangelo: I mean, should or could've done something there. Carolina, over here, Carolina comes up to New England. Mike Marcangelo: This used to be such a win. New England spared by 5.5 points. Rayshawn Buchanan: That's… that's laughable to me. Rayshawn Buchanan: That's laughable. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, two and a half would have been… I'd have been okay, but 5? You said Joe was beaten up by a touchdown? No way. No way. Mike Marcangelo: So you're picking Carolina in the spread, but who are you taking to win the game?
45:43 Rayshawn Buchanan: No, I think New England wins, but I'm saying, but that's… no, no way. Not worried about a touchdown. Mike Marcangelo: Typically, home team gets 2 points, so really, I don't know what's more offensive, the fact that we… that they think that we're only a field goal better than Carolina? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I think it's gonna be 23-20. I really do. Rayshawn Buchanan: I think the K gets his first game-winning field goal. Mike Marcangelo: Hmm. Rayshawn Buchanan: So, we'll see. Mike Marcangelo: Okay? Mike Marcangelo: Chargers at the Giants. Mike Marcangelo: So this is… oh god. The Giants are going with their rookie quarterback. They are benching Russell Wilson. That took… that took long. Rayshawn Buchanan: I, I think that's… I think that's crazy. Rayshawn Buchanan: He has not been a problem.
46:25 Mike Marcangelo: He has, but he hasn't been… he hasn't been the solution either. Rayshawn Buchanan: That team sucks! That team sucks overall, like, it's one thing… Rayshawn Buchanan: It's one thing if they were coming in, and him… them thinking he was gonna be the missing piece, like how Pittsburgh fed up by Aaron Rodgers, right? Rayshawn Buchanan: Or even how Pittsburgh felt about him last year, right? That's different. Mike Marcangelo: Yo. Rayshawn Buchanan: But he wasn't coming in… To be the… to be the missing piece. Rayshawn Buchanan: he was gonna be add-ons to what they had. And once again, he's put up some decent numbers in the last few weeks, so, we'll see, though. We'll see if he's Kurt Warner and Justin Dart is Eli. We're gonna see. We're gonna find out.
47:10 Rayshawn Buchanan: I think the Giants will be charged up for this game, pun intended, but they still lose. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, Herbert's on fire. He's different. He's different right now, that team is different. And once again, it's early in the year, they're healthy. When Chargers… when Chargers teams, historically, when they're healthy, they're really good. Mike Marcangelo: Mine is not Jay Harris. Rayshawn Buchanan: Is that… is that Ian? Mike Marcangelo: Minus Najee Harris, he's out for the rest of the season. Rayshawn Buchanan: Oh, I… what happened to him? Mike Marcangelo: Well, he got injured. Rayshawn Buchanan: Oh, yeah, Angel, okay. Yeah, I feel like that's been… no, I'm gonna say, I know for some reason he got suspended, or… because I might feel like things just be happening, but… Mike Marcangelo: I'm pretty… I'm pretty sure he tore his Achilles. That's what they're saying.
47:51 Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, that seems to be a more apparent injury in sports, so that's like a phenomenon that is wild. But Marion Hampton, I'm a fan of him, like, I wanted him here because I thought that, you know, he played with Drake, and I was just like, why not get him? But yeah, Chargers can still win that game, though. They should still win that. Mike Marcangelo: So now we have… Mike Marcangelo: The Philadelphia Eagles traveling down to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers have been, I mean, listen. Mike Marcangelo: Say what you want, that quarterback is so much fun to watch. Now, it's because he's… he's razor… he walks that… that really thin line, you just don't know what the fuck he's gonna do. Baker… Baker could throw for 500 yards and 5 touchdowns, he could throw for 500 yards and 5 interceptions.
48:37 Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, he's a smaller Jameis. Mike Marcangelo: But Philly's a wagon. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, that was a hell of a comeback against LA on Sunday. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm gonna go with Buccaneers, though. Rayshawn Buchanan: Okay, I… Mike Marcangelo: Really? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I think that Tampa finds a way to get it done early. Only because they're at their home. Like, if they was at… I was about to say, I was gonna show my age. They was at the vet, not the vet, if they're at the link. If they was at the link, I would choose Philadelphia, but I think that, I think that Tampa Bay would come out there. I love, Rayshawn Buchanan: their wide receiver from Ohio State, their rookie, Emeka, I forget how to say his last name, but, that, that dude is nice, and… Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, they just find… they just find guys down there, so from Godwin.
49:25 Mike Marcangelo: feels… Rayshawn Buchanan: It's just… Mike Marcangelo: It feels like they already have their replacement for Mike Evans lined up. Right. Which is fucking scary. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, he's still producing, right, so… Mike Marcangelo: Right, of course he is. Right, so… Rayshawn Buchanan: No. Mike Marcangelo: Two 0-3 teams, Tennessee Titans traveled to Houston, Houston started by 7.5 points, which, again, is fucking wild, especially because it's a divisional game. Mike Marcangelo: somebody's gotta win, I think, unless they tie, but I'm gonna take Houston. Rayshawn Buchanan: Give me, give me, give me Tennessee. Mike Marcangelo: No way. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm in Tennessee. I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I think that… Mike Marcangelo: Did you pick Houston to win 9 games? Weren't you team AOC? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, but this is about right now. We're not talking about the game, we're talking about right now. Right now, they suck, and they're 0-3, and I just… I just don't think that they… like, sometimes, when teams like that, when it starts to spiral like that, Rayshawn Buchanan: It just… it goes… it gets a lot worse before it gets better.
50:21 Rayshawn Buchanan: And I think… and once again, I like Cam Ward coming out of, well, he was in Houston first, then he got to Miami, but I like Cam Ward. I think they've had some decent moments, they just haven't put it together. I think they put it together Sunday, and they win in the late moments of that game. I do. Mike Marcangelo: 0-4. Can you imagine if Houston's 0-4? Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, listen, I'm here for the drama, so… or been happening. Mike Marcangelo: The undefeated Colts travel to the Rams. The Rams are fared by 3.5 points. Devonte Adams is having a renaissance. Matthew Stafford still looks good. Puku Nakua is who everyone thinks he is.
51:03 Mike Marcangelo: I… I love everything that's happening with, with Indy. Mike Marcangelo: I don't know why I like Daniel Jones, but I do. I think it took balls. Mike Marcangelo: to bench Anthony Richardson. Mike Marcangelo: And for it to be paying off right now, I'm really happy, but that still gave me the rents. Rayshawn Buchanan: But he, he, he, meaning Anthony Richardson, lost a job when he subbed out of that game last year. He lost a job. Rayshawn Buchanan: Lost a job, lost a team. Rayshawn Buchanan: Probably lost the city, right? Rayshawn Buchanan: That can't happen. Rayshawn Buchanan: it just can't happen. Once again, I'm a Gator fan, you know, I thought that he was a good talent while he was there. So it's so fortunate to see his career take this type of path, even though it's self, self-imposed. But yeah, it's a cute story, what's happened there in Indianapolis, real cute, real, real cute.
51:52 Rayshawn Buchanan: It comes to a… it comes to a stop on Sunday. Rayshawn Buchanan: Once again, Matt… once again, I… there's no bigger Matthewsapper supporter than the man you hear talking on 3D Airways right now. That… that dude is special, and he's been special his whole career. It just… it just took for y'all to see it on a national stage, to get these in. He's in a bigger market now. But LA, LA wins… Rayshawn Buchanan: Not going away, but they'll win by a touchdown, I think. Mike Marcangelo: Alright, so you're picking them outright and describing. Yeah. Mike Marcangelo: The 2-1 Jaguars travel to the 3-0 San Francisco. Rayshawn Buchanan: Don't you? Mike Marcangelo: Travel to the 3-0 San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco's only favored by 2.5 points, which is fucking wild.
52:39 Mike Marcangelo: Listen, man. Mike Marcangelo: I fucking hate the Jaguars. Rayshawn Buchanan: I hate Trevor Lawrence. Mike Marcangelo: I'd love Travis Hunter. I want him to be… I want him to be good, you know, great on both sides of the ball. Rayshawn Buchanan: Mmm. Mike Marcangelo: I don't… I don't… I don't see how the Jaguars won this game. Unless Mac Jones does what Mac Jones did here. But he hasn't yet. He hasn't. Rayshawn Buchanan: It pisses me off. Rayshawn Buchanan: That he's looked that good over there. Mike Marcangelo: I know. Rayshawn Buchanan: We initially think that Kyle Shanahan, you should have dropped his ass in 2021, and we didn't have to worry about it, we just got somebody else. Mike Marcangelo: Everybody taking Trey Lance would have been great.
53:20 Rayshawn Buchanan: But we say that because of what he did it, but it might have been different here, you know what I'm saying? You don't know. We don't know. Mike Marcangelo: Oh, with, oh, with Bill and not Patricia, he would have been different, you think? Rayshawn Buchanan: Whoa, 2021, I'm saying? You're saying it's 2021. Josh? Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, yeah, okay. Rayshawn Buchanan: I mean, yeah, but obviously, yeah, that moved on, so he left to go to Oakland, Vegas or whatever, but, yeah, I, I… Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm gonna still go with San Francisco, too. Mike Marcangelo: 100%. Rayshawn Buchanan: Doesn't matter who's the quarterback, I just can't believe that Matt Jones has looked that good, and back… Mike Marcangelo: Without a full compliment, like, it's not like it's Ayuk, it's Devo, it's Kittle. It's literally none of those guys, and he still looks just as good.
54:03 Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, so… I had a really good rapport while he was here, so that's not a shocker. Yep. That was his guy, and still is his guy, clearly, but yeah. Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Baltimore travels to Arrowhead, Kansas City. Mike Marcangelo: I think Kansas City's offense is in real trouble. You know, news alert, on breaking news to you, but, like. Mike Marcangelo: we saw… the one… I could compare this to, if you remember, like, 2012, Patriots, when we were… or 2013, one of those two years when it was Kendrell Tompkins and Aaron Dobson. Mike Marcangelo: But, I mean, Brady still had, you know, I would say Edelman. Rayshawn Buchanan: So I've grown, too. Mike Marcangelo: Yeah, but he was hurt. He was really hurt in 2012.
54:45 Mike Marcangelo: Travis Kelsey, I would argue, has cost, the Chiefs two games so far this year. Rayshawn Buchanan: I'm so broken up. Mike Marcangelo: But… Bad… Listen. Mike Marcangelo: this could be a fall like you've never seen before, the difference between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, or if you just want to compare the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, there was 10 years between Super Bowl victories, between his third and his fourth. Mike Marcangelo: However. Mike Marcangelo: We were in the playoffs, literally, literally all but one year, and that's because Brady wasn't there. He got hurt. And we were in the AFC title game, like, 7 times out of those 10 years.
55:26 Mike Marcangelo: So… Let's see if they're a dynasty. Rayshawn Buchanan: I mean, he has conversations every year his career. It's wild. Mike Marcangelo: Gimme the… give me the Ravens. Mike Marcangelo: Lamar will do what Lamar does in the regular season, show up. Show up. Rayshawn Buchanan: I want you to be right, because, like I said, they just had another, Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, they folded again on Monday Night Football, but I feel like Detroit's had that number recently. Rayshawn Buchanan: But that's turned into, like, a little mini rivalry there as well. Yeah. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, but yeah, give me Baltimore as well. Rayshawn Buchanan: I couldn't believe that Saquon Thornton actually looked decent there, to hear, like… Mike Marcangelo: took him 4… I mean, took him 4 chances. Rayshawn Buchanan: Sure, but everybody had 5 catches, 70 yards, which, once again, we would have loved that here. And actually, that's a good week for any receiver. Yeah. That's, you know, that's… Rayshawn Buchanan: That's 90 catches, if you have 5 catches, a game.
56:20 Mike Marcangelo: Yeah. Mike Marcangelo: I'm just really… I'm just really, happy to see that Juju looks like Juju did with us, so far. You know? There's gonna be… he's gonna have 3 games this season that are gonna piss me off completely, because he's gonna catch 7 balls for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns, and… Rayshawn Buchanan: I want to bash my head through a wall, but… He even did that here when he didn't need to. Mike Marcangelo: Right. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, 100%. Pittsburgh came in there, and I'm just like, I said, where's this guy been? Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Rayshawn Buchanan: I was like, oh, okay, great. Not great, but I'm like, okay, here you. Mike Marcangelo: Also, the fact that the Ravens are favored going into Arrowhead, that's fucking wild. Mike Marcangelo: Wild. That just shows you how down Vegas is on the Chiefs. Rayshawn Buchanan: In the regular season, though?
57:02 Mike Marcangelo: Mmm. Rayshawn Buchanan: So you talk about Lamar, being Lamar, like, in a regular season, that's not… that's not… Mike Marcangelo: Has he beat… Has he beat Mahomes in the regular season? Mike Marcangelo: I feel like he has. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, but it was, it was early on, I think. It was early on. It was early on. Once Mahomes got his superpowers, like, it was a rap for a little while. Rayshawn Buchanan: Like, Alan ain't done nothing… Rayshawn Buchanan: Lamar hasn't done anything. Like I said, Burrow's the only one that's coming in the house. Rayshawn Buchanan: They kicked the speed up his head. Mike Marcangelo: Multiple times. Rayshawn Buchanan: It was like, alright, you know, I'm the guy. So. Mike Marcangelo: Chicago, after a fucking, I mean, just an ass-whipping that they dealt Dallas, goes to Vegas, Mike Marcangelo: I think this should be a continuation of what we saw on, on, you know, last week. I think Caleb looked really good. I mean, I… listen, I understand that Dallas' defense is probably one of the worst in league history. Dallas is the only team Mike Marcangelo: Well, actually, no, sorry.
58:04 Mike Marcangelo: Dallas and, and… and the Ravens are the only two teams to score 30 points. Mike Marcangelo: In 3 straight games, and have a losing record. Rayshawn Buchanan: But… Mike Marcangelo: That being said, I love what I saw from Caleb. I thought he was decisive, I thought he was quick. I love the fact that it looks like Roma Dumze is emerging as a number one wide receiver. I told y'all to watch out for Luther, Mike Marcangelo: I just need, listen, I just need Ashton Genti and Brock Byers to have a hell of a game, but I'm picking Chicago. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, I'm rolling with the Bears, too. Rayshawn Buchanan: Caleb finally looked like a… he looked like an NFL quarterback on Sunday. Mike Marcangelo: Yep.
58:44 Rayshawn Buchanan: So, if they get more of that, then they'll be in business. So yeah, Chicago wins that one on Sunday. Mike Marcangelo: Speaking of that terrible defense in Dallas, the Green Bay Packers travel to Dallas on Sunday Night Football. I think Jordan Love is going to Mike Marcangelo: I think he's gonna dog walk the Dallas defense this entire… I mean, I think it's gonna be… Mike Marcangelo: there's gonna be the overinflated take after about, like, how elite he is. Remember, it's the Dallas defense. I could envision a stat line of something along the lines of 25 of 32, 320 yards, 4 touchdowns, no picks, from Jordan Love.
59:24 Rayshawn Buchanan: I would love that, and I hope that my car gets 3 sacks. Mike Marcangelo: Oh, oh my god, it's 5 sacks. Rayshawn Buchanan: Yeah, you know, maybe even better. Mike Marcangelo: Salutes Jerry every single time. Rayshawn Buchanan: Right, correct. Correct. Yep. Mike Marcangelo: I'm here for that. Rayshawn Buchanan: There's like a podcast type of celebration. Mike Marcangelo: Oh, here for that. Doubleheader on Monday. So the Jets go to the Dolphins at 7.15, that'll be… I mean, I'm sure people will really tune in for that. I mean, everyone watches the NFL, so it doesn't matter. Mike Marcangelo: God, Justin Fields, if he plays, give me the Jets. If he doesn't, give me the Dolphins.
1:00:06 Rayshawn Buchanan: Ugh, I laugh, because once again, once again, it's better to be right early than to catch on later. You know, you taught me that well, my friend. Rayshawn Buchanan: But I told you guys. I told y'all… it was only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time before the dolphins that some of y'all come to know and love was going to implode, and now you're seeing it in front of your eyes. You're seeing it happen. Rayshawn Buchanan: They're not a good team. They're just not. No. Mike Marcangelo: The wheels are off. Rayshawn Buchanan: And, yeah, the wheels are off, the, you know, once again, more people are probably interested in going to the Sonic across the street from the stadium, or going to the Cigar Lounge, or going to average. You name it, yeah, shirt club, right, you name it, right? Shout out to G5. But it's just like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's wild. But needless to say, listen, Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, the Jets are gonna come in there and win on Monday night. it's funny, because these two teams had one of the best Monday night games of all time, many years ago.
1:01:12 Mike Marcangelo: Yep. Rayshawn Buchanan: you know, with Linda Mario, I think, hit the game winner many years ago. Shelter Jumbo Elliott, too. That's a name drop there. But yeah, I mean, it won't be that. It won't be 40-37 like that game was. But, you know, I got the Jets winning that one. Mike Marcangelo: 2-0-3 teams, again. Oh, God. And then, let's close out, week four. We have the Cincinnati Bengals traveling to Denver. That's on… that's on ABC, 815. Denver is favored by 7.5 points. Feels like they're not giving Browning much credit. Give me. Rayshawn Buchanan: this Sunday. Rayshawn Buchanan: Wasn't gonna say? Mike Marcangelo: I mean… Rayshawn Buchanan: I believe it. He went until Sunday. So, he's had some good moments, but he. Mike Marcangelo: Give me the Bengals. Rayshawn Buchanan: out there in Denver, I don't know, I think… Rayshawn Buchanan: Seven and a half feels like a lot, because Denver's not… they're not a powerhouse team, but at Mile High, or whatever it's called now, but it's always gonna be Mile High, excuse me, to me.
1:02:12 Rayshawn Buchanan: They, they probably win by 3 or 4. They win by 3 or 4. But 7, 7 is a lot, touchdown is a lot, but they, they… Mike Marcangelo: Seven and a half, so more than a touchdown is what they're saying. Rayshawn Buchanan: So, Mike Marcangelo: It's wild, because the Bengals are 2-1, the Broncos are 1-2, and they're getting… they're getting absolutely no… no, no respect, which is why I'm gonna pick the Bengals. Mike Marcangelo: But I think it should be… listen, it should be a very entertaining week for the NFL. Hopefully, we come back to talk about the Patriots beating the shit out of the Carolina Panthers, and having a great first home win of the season. I don't think that's gonna happen, but… Mike Marcangelo: You know, obviously stay tuned to the Power Ranking Show later this week. The Real BK is gonna release his power rankings, and I just can't wait to see, how DK tries to get the Bears in the top 10. But until then.
1:03:01 Mike Marcangelo: For Rayshawn Buchanan, this is Michael Marc Angelo saying thank you so much for listening to MTP Boston on the Radcast Network. We'll talk to you later.
