> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Welcome to the Living the Dream podcast with Curveball. if you believe you can achieve. Welcome to the Living the Dream with Curveball podcast, a show where I interview guests that teach, motivate and inspire. Today, I am joined by Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford. She is a highly acclaimed speaker, bestselling author, and clinical hypnotist. Amy has done thousands of sessions and she excels in helping people do things like conquer their fears, get rid of depression and anxiety, and stop smoking all in one session. So we're going to be talking to her about her work and everything that she's up to. So, Amy, thank you so much for joining me.
00:01:01.909 --> 00:01:04.469
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Thank you for having me, Curtis. It's good to be here.
00:01:05.030 --> 00:01:08.230
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Why don't you start off by m telling everybody a little bit about yourself?
00:01:09.989 --> 00:01:48.250
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>All right. I live in Salt Lake City and I've been a hypnotist for several years. I have five biological kids and I just love them so much and they've grown up so fast. I'm down to two teenagers left and so it's still busy and I just love it. But yeah, I, I love helping people and I really feel strongly that I'm here to make the world better, that that's what it's all about. And so I'm excited to help all of you listeners to do what we can do to get you feeling better or resolve your issues.
00:01:51.290 --> 00:01:55.209
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, what got you into being a clinical hypnotist?
00:01:57.209 --> 00:02:30.310
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>What got me into it was I reached a point in my life where my kids were growing up and I didn't want to just try to figure it out anymore. I know that a lot of you out there can resonate with that, where at certain times in your life you just want to know, what am I here to do? Like, what is my mission in life? And so many years ago I got to that point in my life and I said, I just put it out there into the universe. And I started praying about it and saying I would love some guidance.
00:02:31.189 --> 00:03:25.159
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And, to my surprise, I ended up looking into hypnotism. I became very interested in it and, I decided to go to a hypnotist to see what it was like and see if I liked it. And I did. And so I decided to become a hypnotist. And I wasn't sure how it would be received. I didn't know if people would be open minded enough or if they would think it was too far out there. I wasn't sure how it was going to go, but I just jumped into it anyway. And I opened my practice and to my pleasant surprise, many people are open to it. And because of that, I've learned a lot, I've experienced a lot, and I've seen many people's lives dramatically change for the better. So. But what originally got me into it was just asking for guidance and having an open mind about it.
00:03:25.800 --> 00:03:28.750
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, what does it take to become, a hypnotist?
00:03:29.759 --> 00:04:23.930
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Well, there's many different ways for me. I went to a school that was about 13 to 14 hours a week for three months. And so I got a really thorough training. And other hypnotists are too fast, in my opinion. But yeah, you want to get a good solid understanding of it. And so you, you go to a good school to certify. And so that's what I did. I had to certify with the ngh, which is a worldwide hypnotist organization. So I had to do that with the schooling. And then from there I started seeing clients. And to my pleasant surprise, it was working really well. Even though I was brand new at it, people were bringing their biggest m challenges to me and it was helping tremendously.
00:04:23.930 --> 00:05:06.220
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And so that motivated me once I knew, okay, people are open minded enough and it's working really well. And that was so rewarding. And so from there I said, okay, now that I know how much I love it, I want to be the best hypnotist in the world. And it's been an amazing journey. I went from one on one clients, to doing shows, to doing speeches, to writing a book that's now an international bestseller. And my next thing is to do one to many. So I'm going to be doing workshops and seminars and classes online and in person and retreats. So it's exciting. Now I can help more people all at once.
00:05:08.620 --> 00:05:20.480
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, I know that you, as a hypnotist, you do things like help people conquer their fears and live their best life. what do you feel is your ultimate mission or your ultimate goal for your work?
00:05:22.410 --> 00:05:49.860
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>To help people connect with their greatness and understand that they are more than what they think they are. So there's a lot to that. Right? Because when we go through things in life that I call nervous system contamination, and what I mean by that is we all go through hard things and sometimes they contaminate our nervous system.
00:05:49.860 --> 00:07:04.509
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>They make us, they drag us down. Does that make sense? Like they can weigh heavy on us if we don't know what to do with these experiences. And so part of connecting to their greatness is just Helping them know, okay, these experiences are not you. They happened to you and you learn and you grow from them. And you know, there's a lot that you can get out of that, but they're not who you are. Who you are is this amazing miracle. And so, yeah, that's my ultimate goal. And I want to do that on a worldwide scale. And that's honestly the purpose of my book. I want to make the world a better place. And in my opinion, fear is our number one enemy. Because fear causes more problems around the world than anything else besides natural disasters. It is the cause of all the problems. Greed and wars and violence and dictatorship. It's, it's all fear and anxiety and panic and stress. All those are from fear too.
00:07:05.790 --> 00:07:40.589
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Division between people, political and all that kind of division. It's all fearful. And so the reason I wrote the book is to help us heal. I, you know, my proposal is because we are stronger than fear, because we are hardwired to rise at a deep, God given level. We need to stop letting fear be the boss of the world. We got, it's time to overthrow it and say we are the boss of us and we choose love and goodness over fear.
00:07:43.389 --> 00:07:55.550
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, since you already kind of been talking about it, go ahead and expand on your book. You know, tell the listeners about the book, what they can expect when they read it and where they can get it and why you decide to write it.
00:07:56.110 --> 00:10:05.519
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Okay, let's start with why I decided to write was one of those moments where it came unexpectedly. I was driving from Salt Lake City up to Seattle to see one of my kids that lives up there. And on the way I was listening to a self help book. And I just literally felt this voice inside of me out of the blue saying, you need to write a book about fear. And I said, no, I don't want to write a book. I'm too busy already. I've got all this other stuff going on. No, I'm not adding a book to all this that I have. And so me and this, you know, voice of God went back and forth and I kept saying, no, I'm not writing a book. And ultimately God won. And it's interesting because it wasn't, it wasn't even a slow, okay, fine. It was like I was saying, we were driving to Seattle and I was going in that debate in my head saying, no, no, no. And we'd pulled in like an hour later to eat lunch, pulled into the next town. And during that lunch I began writing the book. And so when I started writing it on my phone while we were eating lunch. I looked up at the sky and said, ah, all right, fine. You win. So here we are. It took me about a year and a half, two years to finish it and about a million hours. I wanted it to be an excellent read. Like, I wanted it to change the world. And so it had to be excellent work. And so it's all about fear and just conquering it. You know, it's a very positive book. It explains what our emotions, what are they, how do they work? Why do we have emotions and know. It goes on to expound on fears and different kinds of fears. And I talk about how there's two types of fears.
00:10:06.000 --> 00:10:52.179
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Necessary fear that keeps us alive and safe, and unnecessary fear that holds us back and causes us suffering in anxiety and fear and worry and stress. And so every chapter has techniques and proven ways of eliminating fear from your mind and from your life that I use with clients. So it's packed with just incredibly positive, proven information. And it takes you on a journey from where we're talking about fear to just. All right, well, so here's how you go from being insecure to confident. And here's how you stop letting fear do this to you. And here's all that you need to know.
00:10:52.179 --> 00:11:24.340
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>It's almost 200 pages, and it's just super positive. Everyone that's been reading it so far has had really great things to say. And when I read it too, like when I'm going back to read a certain passage or something, I think this really did turn out well. I'm very proud of this book. I feel like I put my best work into this and so readers can find it on Amazon. Just last week, it hit the international bestseller status on Amazon.
00:11:24.899 --> 00:11:45.370
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>So I'm super excited about that. And right now you can get it in digital and print. And I will get the audio version done as soon as I can. In fact, I actually started recording the Audible version in, in June, and then I just got sidetracked. And so I'm just going to start over again and do it.
00:11:48.090 --> 00:11:54.250
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>So what are some of your biggest dreams, whether they be personal or professional?
00:11:56.409 --> 00:13:41.990
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>To make the world a better place, honestly, to help people, to snap out of it, to stop being fearful and angry. And, you know, I've done that a lot with my sessions, with my work, and it is so rewarding. I have helped many people stop smoking in one session with a lifetime guarantee. In fact, just yesterday, I had a woman who had smoked 43 years, the longest that she had ever gone in those 43 years without cigarettes is two months. And she left as a non smoker. And so that, that's fulfilling because it not only proves that it works, but that it also can be used in very positive ways. my ultimate dreams are, yeah, just to keep on helping as many people as I can while I'm here, to spread light and love and help people connect to their power. And so, yeah, ultimately I want to go global. My book, my speaking, my classes that help with depression and anxiety, I'm going to be doing those starting at the, on October 23rd. And so that one will be in person or you can stream it. And I'm going to be doing depression and anxiety classes every month. And every month is going to be slightly different where we're going to be covering different aspects of depression and anxiety. Because that is the area of my expertise, the most, predominant clientele, the people that have come to me the most, it's been for depression and anxiety. That's been the majority of my clients over the years.
00:13:42.549 --> 00:14:29.070
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And you know what, I'm actually really good at it because I have had personal experience with depression and anxiety where in my past I would go through a year of depression and anxiety or two years, and it was extremely severe and extremely difficult. I had probably three or four of those types of long bouts of depression. And I came out of it. And so I use my experience not only to help people, but to understand the difficulty of what they're going through. And so, yeah, with that, I can help a lot more people than I was able to one on one in my office. And so these depression and anxiety workshops, or, you know, whatever you want to call them, seminars are going to be fantastic.
00:14:29.070 --> 00:14:49.710
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>They're going to be fabulous because it's going to come from a place of mind and body. Here's what I've learned, but also just here's what I have used over the years to truly help people get out of that rut of depression and anxiety. I call it coming out of a dark hole and into the sunlight.
00:14:50.269 --> 00:15:04.019
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Because that is what it feels like to come out of a deep depression. You literally feel like you're coming out of this black hole and into the sunlight. And it just feels so amazing to be in that warmth and happiness again.
00:15:07.539 --> 00:15:18.889
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, what, what are some of the biggest lessons you have learned? Because you, you've trained with the, world's top hip, some of the world's top hypnotists. So what are some of the biggest lessons you've learned?
00:15:19.850 --> 00:16:47.070
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>I've learned how the brain works, right? How the mind works, how people often think that if you go through some extremely severe trauma or something, that you'll never be able to function again. Or you'll have to be in therapy the rest of your life. And I've. I've learned that the mind is a really amazing thing. And that it is more than willing to let go of some of those old feelings and those old memories that, you know, where you don't forget it. It's just different. and so I have seen with my own eyes the power of the mind to heal emotionally, mentally, and even physically. I've seen some interesting things that way too. Where people's rashes have disappeared just from doing sessions, when we're not even working on that, their illnesses. And that's not what we're like accom trying to accomplish, but it's just a natural byproduct in some cases. I've learned the best hypnotic techniques, how to hypnotize everyone and anyone. I've learned the best ways to help people resolve the past and how to help people connect to their best selves to reach their full potential. So I've learned some of the best ways to do that that are out there.
00:16:48.360 --> 00:17:45.910
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And ultimately I've learned too, that fear was really the issue. And that's why I wrote the book because. Well, because God told me to, but also because I have a unique perspective where after doing thousands of sessions for depression, anxiety, smoking, sports performance, resolving past traumas, you name it, I began to notice that it was all really fear. That the fundamental thing that was always there was some type of fear, some variation. And so I've learned so much over the years. I've learned that everyone wants to be loved and accepted. And that when you approach healing and resolving people's issues that way, it really helps a lot. I use a lot of that in my sessions and in my speeches, in my book and everything that love matters a whole lot.
00:17:47.190 --> 00:18:17.440
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Personally, I think that love is more important than anything else in the world. It's more important than religion or politics or any petty things. It's the most important thing in life. And so I've learned a lot. That just gives you a small sampling of what I've learned. The most important thing is to approach things with love. Love for others, love for yourself, love for life. And, that really works great.
00:18:19.920 --> 00:18:20.319
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Well.
00:18:20.638 --> 00:18:28.210
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>What's the most rewarding part of, seeing people transform from the work that you do when you work with them?
00:18:29.730 --> 00:20:14.619
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Most rewarding part is just being happy. For them, I know what it's like to be in that dark hole. And so I get people that come to me that are in a really low place, they're suicidal, or they are just so feeling down and depressed. And to watch them over the course of the sessions think differently, believe differently, feel differently, it is so. I'm so happy for them, you know, because they. I want that for them. Everyone that comes to me, I want them to get the results that they come to me for. And so when that happens, which it does most all the time, it is so happy. Sometimes people will say to me, isn't it hard, though, to, you know, sit there and help people who are in such a low place? And I'll say, no, not at all. Because I send them back. I send them out of my office feeling better than when they came in. And that is such a happy thing that they come in feeling down in the dumps, and they leave my office feeling much better, dramatically better when they leave. That is the most rewarding thing to know that somehow I was instrumental in helping that person live a good life. And just one example. There was a girl, years and years ago who came to me. She was suicidal. I think she was about 19 or maybe 20. And we did a few sessions.
00:20:14.619 --> 00:20:54.930
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And she is still. And it's been several years, she is still doing so much better. She's doing her own business, and she is just thriving. And for me to think, back to our journey together, where she came in and she just didn't want to be here, and now she's just so happy. She's doing her own business. Amazing. And that's when it's really rewarding, too, to see that it lasts, right? That she's maintained that transformation for now seven years. And so, yeah, that's so rewarding. And I.
00:20:54.930 --> 00:21:17.890
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Once in a while, you know, we'll hear that. A couple. About a month ago, a month and a half ago, another client reached out to me and he wanted his son to come and see me. And he said, those sessions with you, I have been the happiest I've ever been in my life. And I said, I didn't even know that. You didn't tell me. You know, we kind of wrapped up our sessions, but you never kind of.
00:21:17.890 --> 00:21:20.769
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>You never let me know. And he said, oh, my gosh.
00:21:20.849 --> 00:21:56.940
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And that was probably about four or five years ago. He said, I have been the happiest of all time since those sessions. That is so rewarding. I said, you made my day. Or, like, when I got a Surprise text from a former client, in, I think it was July. She said, I just wanted you to know that I stopped smoking with you back in October and I had a really hard year. My husband died and my dad died and I had, I lost my job. And like she had a really hard year after stopping smoking with me.
00:21:56.940 --> 00:22:05.940
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>And she said, but I wanted you to know that with all that hard stuff in my life, I have not touched a cigarette. And so I said the same thing to her.
00:22:05.940 --> 00:22:14.299
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>I said, oh my goodness, you made my day. That makes me so happy when I hear back from clients that they're doing well.
00:22:15.900 --> 00:22:23.339
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, I know you talked about some of your upcoming projects, but talk about any other upcoming projects that listeners need to be aware of.
00:22:24.380 --> 00:23:23.140
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>Yes, here is one that you definitely want to know about. So in January, and I don't have the exact dates yet, I promise I'll start publishing that as soon as I have the exact dates locked down. In January, I'm going to be doing an in person event with a hypnotist named Marshall Silver. Now he has done extremely well. He's done seminars for decades and he's going to be coming to where I live and his seminars have changed millions of lives. And so he and I are going to be working together to do this incredible two and a half day seminar that I promise will upgrade your life. I, I've been to it a few times and that's why I wanted to do it here because it really does make a hugely positive difference. And I'm pretty sure that I'll be offering that on online as well.
00:23:23.299 --> 00:24:35.710
> Amy the Happy Hypnotist Colford>People can live stream and I'm not exactly sure but it you get more out of it in person because we do certain activities that overcome fears, conquer fears, tell fear where to stick it and things like that, where you want to do it in person, but that two and a half days will change your life. I'm not even kidding. It is amazing. He has perfected this seminar and so yeah, that's going to be in January so you can start your new year the right way with becoming a better version of you. It's not even just nifty content. We're actually changing the way that you believe and think so that you leave as a new person ready to go reach your full potential. It'll help you make more money, it'll help your relationships, it helps you with personal development and growth. So yes, that is what I want to tell the listeners in January. So keep an eye on my website, amy.com and I'll have information about my upcoming live and in person events.
00:24:37.309 --> 00:24:41.180

Because you know, one of the facts of life is that when we look for good, we will find it. When we look for bad, we will find it. There is both in this world at all times. And it's just how we're viewing life. Are we finding the good? Are we seeking out the good purposefully and intentionally? Because you will find love and goodness within yourself and others and in the world when you're looking for it. And that will serve you. You, your life will be happier. Your relationships will be better. You will make more money. You will have a higher, better quality of life that way.
