00:00:00.420 --> 00:00:08.330
Welcome to the Living the Dream Podcast with Curveball, if you believe you can achieve.
00:00:08.330 --> 00:00:29.329
Welcome to the Living the Dream with Curveball Podcast, a show where I interview guests that teach, motivate and inspire.
00:00:29.329 --> 00:00:35.552
Today, I am joined by rising country singer, songwriter, bea Smith.
00:00:35.552 --> 00:00:38.328
Bea is straight out of the United Kingdom.
00:00:38.328 --> 00:00:43.491
We're going to be talking to her about her music and her career and what she's got coming up.
00:00:43.491 --> 00:00:46.225
So, bea, thank you so much for joining me.
00:00:47.029 --> 00:00:47.930
Thank you for having me.
00:00:48.719 --> 00:00:51.329
Why don't you start off by telling everybody a little bit about yourself?
00:00:52.841 --> 00:00:54.005
Yeah, so I'm Bea.
00:00:54.005 --> 00:01:12.671
I'm from England, I'm from a small town just outside of Preston, which is in Lancashire, and I've been singing for over 10 years well, performing for over 10 years, singing for longer than that and I was recently signed to Bookshop Records there in Louisiana.
00:01:12.671 --> 00:01:18.629
So I'm on my musical journey, my country music journey, over in the States soon.
00:01:18.629 --> 00:01:19.906
So, yeah, it's really exciting.
00:01:21.740 --> 00:01:23.668
Yeah, and I'm actually from Louisiana.
00:01:24.501 --> 00:01:26.046
Oh, amazing, yeah, and I'm actually from Louisiana.
00:01:26.085 --> 00:01:34.769
oh, amazing, so tell the listeners how you, how you got into singing so I've always, I've always sung since I was really little.
00:01:34.911 --> 00:01:42.409
I've always enjoyed doing it, um, but then when I was growing up, I I really wanted to do that as a career.
00:01:42.409 --> 00:01:53.674
I wanted to go to performing arts school and my brother did that and I just I loved the idea of it, um, but my family, it was basically a hard no.
00:01:53.674 --> 00:01:58.087
Um, they didn't see singing as a proper job, if you will.
00:01:58.087 --> 00:02:02.843
So they kind of said that I needed to go into journalism.
00:02:02.843 --> 00:02:07.102
So I thought, well, maybe it's just always going to be a bit of a hobby.
00:02:07.102 --> 00:02:09.606
And that's what I did.
00:02:09.646 --> 00:02:17.433
I pursued media and I studied media and went to university and things, and I just that longing never left.
00:02:17.433 --> 00:02:19.199
I always wanted to carry on singing.
00:02:19.199 --> 00:03:01.580
So I would just do like open mics or karaoke competitions, things like that when I could, and then I sang for a bit and then I was performing in the UK, quite locally to where I'm from, but I was singing like pop music and things and it just wasn't really me, it wasn't really what I wanted to do, and so I took a break from it and I became a mum and then I said to myself like this, literally this time last year I said, right, I'm going to do something with it now and I started a TikTok account, which was really strange to begin with, because I've never been brilliant with social media.
00:03:01.580 --> 00:03:09.659
So I started a TikTok account and I was discovered online by this record label in Louisiana.
00:03:09.659 --> 00:03:12.028
So it's kind of just snowballed from there really.
00:03:14.640 --> 00:03:16.245
Well, that's actually pretty cool.
00:03:16.245 --> 00:03:17.228
Congratulations.
00:03:18.191 --> 00:03:18.572
Thank you.
00:03:18.572 --> 00:03:20.647
Yeah, it's an amazing opportunity.
00:03:21.520 --> 00:03:24.527
Tell us about some of your biggest influences.
00:03:24.527 --> 00:03:27.300
You know who influences you to do what you do.
00:03:30.003 --> 00:03:32.788
I mean, at the moment it's my daughter, to be honest.
00:03:32.788 --> 00:03:50.289
She inspires me to work hard and show her that you know, you don't have to always go down the kind of traditional routes of you know, of family expectations and what, what you, and kind of being pushed into something that you don't really want to do.
00:03:50.289 --> 00:03:51.661
It's she.
00:03:51.661 --> 00:03:59.021
I kind of want to show her that you can achieve what you want to achieve, um, by hard work and and not giving up.
00:03:59.021 --> 00:04:10.915
So, yeah, I mean, you know, musically I have loads and loads of influences, from country to soul and even gospel.
00:04:10.915 --> 00:04:12.826
I love all genres of music.
00:04:12.826 --> 00:04:22.747
I think if I had to pick a favourite country artist at the moment which is really hard but if I had to pick a favourite, it would be Ashley McBride.
00:04:22.747 --> 00:04:26.449
I absolutely love her and I do say her a lot, but I do have a lot of favorites.
00:04:26.449 --> 00:04:29.468
She is my queen of country to me.
00:04:32.081 --> 00:04:34.064
Yeah, I like Ashley McBride too.
00:04:34.867 --> 00:04:35.790
Yeah, she's awesome.
00:04:35.790 --> 00:04:37.192
It's the songwriting.
00:04:37.192 --> 00:04:38.504
I love the way she writes.
00:04:38.504 --> 00:04:39.148
She's amazing.
00:04:40.261 --> 00:04:47.610
So tell us about your current projects out, tell us what inspired them and tell us all about them.
00:04:50.543 --> 00:04:56.185
Yeah, so my current single is called Little Girl's Heart and that I wasn't.
00:04:56.185 --> 00:04:56.646
Actually.
00:04:56.646 --> 00:05:00.596
You can actually think that would be my debut single.
00:05:00.596 --> 00:05:08.120
When I went into writing it I wrote it with a co-writer called Nick Sagar.
00:05:08.120 --> 00:05:18.363
He actually produced it as well and he kind of just asked me, you know, when we went into the session, what do you want to write about?
00:05:18.363 --> 00:05:21.350
And we were just talking about kind of life experiences and stuff.
00:05:21.971 --> 00:05:30.971
And then the story for this just kind of came out quite organically really, and it's about my experience of a father figure growing up.
00:05:30.971 --> 00:05:59.062
So it's a true, it's a true story, um, and it kind of takes the the traditional idea of a father in country music or how they're perceived in country music, um, as you know, of being a great role model and daddy's boots are hard to fill and daddy will walk you down the aisle and things like that and kind of turns it on its head, um, because that certainly wasn't my experience of of growing up, uh, with my father.
00:05:59.062 --> 00:06:00.230
He left when I was six.
00:06:00.230 --> 00:06:03.098
So that's basically the story.
00:06:03.098 --> 00:06:04.742
Story of what the song is.
00:06:04.742 --> 00:06:18.480
It's quite a sad song, but I felt it was important to kind of get that out there and get a really kind of truthful account for my debut single.
00:06:22.064 --> 00:06:22.605
Absolutely.
00:06:22.605 --> 00:06:27.033
You think you could sing a little bit of it for the listeners for us.
00:06:29.577 --> 00:06:31.802
Oh gosh, which bit do you want?
00:06:31.802 --> 00:06:33.675
Do you want the chorus, or do you want a bit of the verse?
00:06:34.858 --> 00:06:36.692
It's up to you, whichever one you want to share.
00:06:39.461 --> 00:06:47.122
I'll sing a little bit of that, I think, and it goes so it's.
00:06:47.122 --> 00:06:49.610
If you listen to it you'll get what it's about.
00:06:49.610 --> 00:07:04.360
But the last bit of it, which is the most important part of the song, it goes one thing daddies ain't supposed to do, they ain't supposed to bring their little girl's heart.
00:07:04.360 --> 00:07:07.180
There you go.
00:07:07.851 --> 00:07:12.838
Yeah, that's pretty good and you're on all the streaming platforms as B Smith.
00:07:13.600 --> 00:07:18.982
Yes, yes, so I'm on the socials as well, so I'm not brilliant on Instagram.
00:07:18.982 --> 00:07:20.430
I'm not going to lie, it's not my favorite.
00:07:20.430 --> 00:07:21.136
I use Facebook more.
00:07:21.136 --> 00:07:21.418
I'm on there.
00:07:21.418 --> 00:07:22.749
Lie, it's not my favorite, I use them.
00:07:22.749 --> 00:07:23.512
I use Facebook more.
00:07:23.512 --> 00:07:25.660
I'm on there as B Smith music official.
00:07:25.660 --> 00:07:30.678
But yeah, I'm on Spotify and Apple music at YouTube music.
00:07:30.678 --> 00:07:32.646
I think Deezer as well.
00:07:32.646 --> 00:07:34.011
All the all the major ones are.
00:07:34.031 --> 00:07:41.613
It's all on there okay, what will tell us about any upcoming projects that you're working on that listeners need to be aware of?
00:07:42.877 --> 00:07:46.903
Yeah, so at the minute I'm working on a new single.
00:07:46.903 --> 00:07:48.675
I'm not sure when it's coming out yet.
00:07:48.675 --> 00:07:50.596
We've not confirmed a date yet.
00:07:50.596 --> 00:07:54.802
All I will say at the moment is it's completely different to the first one.
00:07:54.802 --> 00:08:00.199
It's definitely not a sad song, it's more of a kind of a girly anthem.
00:08:00.199 --> 00:08:12.456
So I'm really excited about that one coming out as well, and I've got a tour in America coming up in July, so I fly out.
00:08:12.456 --> 00:08:26.959
I think my first show is on the 4th of July and I'm playing in Louisiana and Hattiesburg, mississippi, and there's a few other places I think we're going to head up.
00:08:26.959 --> 00:08:44.080
I think we're going to go to Texas, go to Tennessee, maybe Arkansas I'm not sure yet, but all the details when that's all been confirmed will be on my website and that's besmithmusiccom all right, that was my next question, bsmithmusiccom.
00:08:44.120 --> 00:08:45.442
Y'all be on the lookout for that.
00:08:45.442 --> 00:08:49.818
Sounds like she'll be touring around the south I will.
00:08:49.859 --> 00:08:50.480
Yes, I can't.
00:08:50.480 --> 00:08:51.423
I'm so excited.
00:08:51.423 --> 00:09:13.905
You know, I've never even visited there before either, so I'm so, so excited to come in and and meet everybody that I've already spoken to and, um, I know there's a few tour stops which will be around places where I have interviewed already as well, which is will be amazing to meet people and meet some of my followers from over there as well that have been following me for a while now.
00:09:13.905 --> 00:09:15.975
So I'm so, so excited.
00:09:17.120 --> 00:09:47.900
Absolutely Close us out with some final thoughts, maybe if that was something I forgot to talk about, that you would like to touch on, or any final thoughts you have for the listeners, maybe if that was something I forgot to talk about that you would like to touch on or any final thoughts you have for the listeners, I think you know I think at this point in my journey it's very, very early on I think one thing that I have learned about all this is just not to give up, because I'm feeling very, very grateful for any kind of new follower or, you know, anyone who downloads and listens to my song.
00:09:47.900 --> 00:10:04.847
I'm just so grateful for it because I just I'm a big believer in thinking that everything happens for a reason and there's a, there is a higher purpose out there, and had I not have given this a go again last January, I wouldn't be sat here speaking to people like yourself.
00:10:14.777 --> 00:10:17.965
So, just yeah, I just think don't give up on whatever you know.
00:10:17.965 --> 00:10:18.947
However, that translates to you.
00:10:18.947 --> 00:10:20.289
