00:00:00.719 --> 00:00:09.205
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Welcome, um, to the Living the Dream podcast with Curveball. If you believe you can achieve, cheat.

00:00:19.065 --> 00:00:29.164
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Welcome to the Living the Dream with Curveball podcast, a show where I interview guests that teach, motivate, and inspire.

00:00:29.824 --> 00:00:59.725
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Today, we are joined by hip hop artist MZ um, Cox. MZ has been doing this for a while. She's got a lot of good songs out there, and she didn't start off necessarily wanting to do hip hop. You know, she wanted to be a judge, a lawyer, or a pediatrician. So we'll be talking to her about everything that she's up to and how she got to this point. So, MZ Cox, thank you so much for joining me.

00:01:00.225 --> 00:01:01.697
> MZ Cox>Thank you for having me.

00:01:01.881 --> 00:01:05.204
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Why don't you start off by telling everybody a little bit about yourself?

00:01:05.745 --> 00:01:14.417
> MZ Cox>Yes, yes, yes. What's up? What's up? Well, it's yours truly, Ms. Cox. I am an artist, an actress. I write music. I host.

00:01:14.600 --> 00:01:20.204
> MZ Cox>I do some of everything, actually, and I am from East Atlanta.

00:01:22.694 --> 00:01:36.474
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Okay, well, let's start off, first of all, you know, talking about your music. You know, how did you get into music? And, you know, let the listeners know what kind of genre you feel your music is.

00:01:37.334 --> 00:02:05.123
> MZ Cox>So I wrote my first verse when I was 10 years old, but I didn't really start seriously performing until later on, um, when I decided to take it seriously. That was when I went on my first tour. I was about 16 years old, um, and I've been going crazy ever since, uh, actually pursuing music for almost a decade. Uh, I knew that I had a passion for music just because I was exposed to so many different types of music through my parents.

00:02:05.299 --> 00:02:30.235
> MZ Cox>They had me listening to, like, country, jazz, blues, hip hop, R and B. So that kind of was already embedded in me from, uh, a young child in that regard. And then I've always been like, a writer, even in school, English was my favorite subject outside of math. So, uh, I was always writing. It came kind of natural to me to just be able to write a story and write a concept and write music from there.

00:02:31.974 --> 00:02:37.510
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>So speaking of that, at first you wanted to be a judge, a lawyer, or a pediatrician. So how did you.

00:02:37.543 --> 00:02:38.354
> MZ Cox>I did.

00:02:38.735 --> 00:02:43.835
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>How did you transition from wanting to do that to transition into music?

00:02:44.414 --> 00:02:58.387
> MZ Cox>I think, you know, like, when you're younger, you don't. You don't necessarily. You really don't know. You kind of just are guessing and taking a stab at what you feel like your full potential will possibly be.

00:02:58.570 --> 00:03:30.971
> MZ Cox>So I. I think my transition from doing that came after me being able to, like I said, be In a studio record, write a verse and stuff like that. Then that was when I decided I found a new love that I can, like, see myself actually doing. A lawyer and then a judge, just because I always like, oh, I want to be a judge. I want to help people. I've always been a person that, like, felt like I could help people. And then even pediatrician, they help people as well. Kids.

00:03:31.043 --> 00:03:36.323
> MZ Cox>But I realized that I enjoy kids, but not enough to be a pediatrician.

00:03:36.498 --> 00:03:44.375
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Okay, well, you're also an actor, so tell us about. You know, tell us about that. Tell us about some stuff you've been in.

00:03:44.705 --> 00:03:47.365
> MZ Cox>So, so far, I've been in four movies.

00:03:47.500 --> 00:03:52.937
> MZ Cox>Um, they're all out on Tubi, Amazon, and Peacock. The first movie is called Hot Girls.

00:03:53.001 --> 00:03:55.645
> MZ Cox>The second movie is called for the Gram.

00:03:56.064 --> 00:04:24.454
> MZ Cox>After that, we have Wreckage, and then more recently, we have make it Rain. Um, all of those movies, like I said, are on those streaming platforms. Wreckage has Columbus Short in there. Um, I've been able to work with Little Scrappy Bangladesh, Sky Keaton, Roscoe Dash, Michael Montana. Um, I feel like I'm forgetting some people, but those are the people that I can list right now at the top of my head that I've actually worked with.

00:04:25.754 --> 00:04:29.523
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Well, you've also done a song with Lil Durk, correct?

00:04:29.658 --> 00:04:47.595
> MZ Cox>I did. Headboard is out now on all platforms featuring Little Dirk. Um, it's definitely a certified baby maker, for sure. And it's. It gives you that real. I feel good. It's a bedroom song. Um, but it's a good song. I love that record.

00:04:48.175 --> 00:04:52.035
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Yes. So what was it like making that record with Lil Dirk?

00:04:52.800 --> 00:05:30.266
> MZ Cox>Uh, it kind of fell into my lap, honestly. I was working with a promoter who was. Had ties and connections to getting to. He basically already had, like, a lot of, um, situations going on in regards to different records to get on, and he was like, hey, I have this opportunity for you. I think it'll be a great opportunity for you to get on this song. So I heard a couple different things, different songs, and when I heard that one, I fell in love with, and I was like, oh, this gonna be the one. Got on it and, you know, now is doing what it's doing now. To this day, unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to meet Dirk, um, while the recording process was taking.

00:05:30.411 --> 00:05:37.095
> MZ Cox>Taking place. But, you know, hopefully eventually one day, maybe we'll be able to perform together and rock out.

00:05:38.745 --> 00:05:46.305
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Absolutely. Well, tell us about some of your biggest musical influences. Who influences you to do what you do?

00:05:46.464 --> 00:05:55.404
> MZ Cox>My biggest influences in this game for sure. I'm gonna say is Missy Elliott. I always say Missy. Like, that's my number one.

00:05:56.345 --> 00:05:58.845
> MZ Cox>Eve would be a close second.

00:05:59.305 --> 00:06:13.435
> MZ Cox>Lil Kim and Moni Love. As far as, like, the older, legendary women in the game that have definitely paved the way, I would say that those women are just, you know, undeniably talented.

00:06:16.495 --> 00:06:27.915
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Absolutely. Well, tell us about, you know, your latest project or any upcoming projects that we should be aware of and what inspired them and stuff like that.

00:06:28.574 --> 00:06:51.754
> MZ Cox>So outside of Headboard, the record that we're pushing right now is called Go Ahead and it's definitely a club banger. It's a fun record. It's definitely gonna get everybody up dancing and moving. The ladies are going to want to twerk. The men are going to want it. They're going to enjoy the song. Just because who doesn't like having pretty, uh, women, you know, up, uh, dancing and vibing and having a good time.

00:06:52.134 --> 00:06:58.047
> MZ Cox>But like I said, it also has a bop to it. So I feel like the men could, could relate to it and have a good time as well.

00:06:58.230 --> 00:07:03.475
> MZ Cox>Outside of that, I am, um, on my last leg of my, um, first promo tour.

00:07:03.654 --> 00:07:27.295
> MZ Cox>The last date is actually December 21st and then we're gonna regroup for a few weeks and then come back the top of January, January 10th with the coldest Winter Ever tour. So I'll be coming to a city near you for sure. I'm also in the works of a, ah, mixtape and my EP called three Piece coming out at the top of the year. So we working.

00:07:29.245 --> 00:07:36.812
> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>Yep, it definitely sounds like it. And so listeners can keep up with everything that you're up to give. Give out your contact info.

> Curtis Jackson (also known as DJ Curveball)>All right, so close us out with some final thoughts. Maybe if that was something I forgot to talk about that you would like to touch on or any final thoughts you have for the listeners.

00:08:16.189 --> 00:08:18.850
> MZ Cox>Uh, my final thoughts that I would have for the listeners.

00:08:18.923 --> 00:08:28.137
