From Hitchcock To Road To Malevolence With Samyra Alexander

From Hitchcock To Road To Malevolence With Samyra Alexander

We sit down with author Samyra Alexander to talk twists, dark psychological thrillers, and how Road To Malevolence unexpectedly grew from a standalone into a full trilogy. We also unpack Janet’s choices through the lens of trauma, family secrets, and the uncomfortable truth that adults can create the very chaos they blame on kids.
• Samyra’s early influences from Hitchcock-style storytelling and twist endings
• Why Road To Malevolence was meant to be standalone then became a trilogy
• The reality of self-publishing costs and wanting fair pay for creative work
• Janet’s origin story and the theme of parents’ consequences landing on children
• Keeping key events in a child’s POV to preserve innocence and suspense
• Writing Janet across huge age jumps while keeping core traits consistent
• Trauma responses, coping strategies, and “looking fine” while struggling
• Family mental health patterns and how strict parenting can fuel secrecy
• Book three pacing, added suspense, and confirming the series is complete
• Upcoming events and where to find signed copies and follow Samira online

Welcome To Lex Between The Lines

SPEAKER_02

Hey, you are watching and listening to Lex Between the Lines, where I am your host, Lex, and today I am going to try my best to stay in between the lines. Because I want y'all to go pick up all three books, and I ain't gonna ruin it for y'all. But we're gonna let our kiss introduce herself and how she got into dark psychological thrillers.

SPEAKER_00

All right. Well, thank you so much for having me on. You you know it's always a good time when you're in the room. So I am thankful you reached out. But a little bit about myself, Samira Alexander, uh, how I got into dark psychological fiction, I guess I got it honest. You know, I I grew up with babysitters, my parents who love to watch things, sort of like uh Alfred Hitchcock presents, the Alfred Hitchcock Hour, uh Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Hood, Twilight Zone. Those as a little kid, those are my favorite shows, you know. Uh even as a when I was like in my early 20s, I would get an Alfred Hitchcock uh collection on VHS, his short, the short stories he produced. And my friends would be like, Why are you watching that? It's in black and white, you know. I'm like, This man, this is good. You you don't

Samira’s Twist-Filled Childhood Influences

SPEAKER_00

see the twists going on here. So I'm always loved the twists, and I'll never forget, even with my mother, I would be on the couch with her, and we would be watching The Twilight Zone or Tales from the Hood, and I wouldn't catch a twist, and I would have to ask her, she would break it down, and she'd be like, Now you get it. And I'm like, Yeah, now I get it. But see, I didn't even know that that was my training to be a fiction writer as I got older. But I was always trying to figure out the twist and could I catch it and then go back. And then once a point I had a cousin who I used to hang out with, she was much younger than me. And I would play card games with it, a bond. I would make her watch um Alfred Hitchcock if she lost. And she wouldn't catch on to the twist, and I would slow it back. I'm like, now do you see it? Do you get the twist? So I've always loved it in entertainment. And so when I started writing, that's something that I wanted to do. I wanted people to not see where I was coming and then to go back to see, oh, where did I miss it? Were there some clues that something like this was going to happen? I want people's uh mouths to drop the same way that mine's dropped when I had when I was watching all that kind of stuff back in the day.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, and honey, you you studied good.

SPEAKER_03

Thank you, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Road to Malevolence, Samara. Did you know this was gonna be a three-book series?

SPEAKER_00

Whoo, that's a great question. No, Road to Malevolence actually was a standalone, and the what I did with that because I remember watching like Alfred Hitchcock shows, and that something would happen at the end, and your mouth would kind of drop, and then it was really like still a question. But honestly, what I forgot is that Alfred Hitchcock would then appear on screen and give you a line or two about what happened. And I didn't do that with Road to Malevolence, I just left it as a draw dropping at the end of that last um scene where they were at a funeral. And then so I should have added a few lines so people would know maybe what happened to the character, but because I didn't do that, people assumed book two was coming, and I'm like, no, there's no no book two, that's it, ending. That's what Alfred Hitchcock would do in my mind, you know. And so uh people were DMing me and stuff, like hey, part two. And for a while, I was like, nah, that's it. That is final. I don't know what's wrong with y'all. It's final. Then I thought about it, like, since enough people had jumped in the DM about it. I said, you know what? I will go ahead and see if I can find anything else. That story was done, and I did come up with something. I wanted her to be a bit older, you know, dealing with her consequences of what she did in part one. Like, what does this look like for someone who did what she did at age nine? You know? And so that's where book two came. And then uh after book two, while I was doing writing book two, I came up with thoughts for book three. It's a little bit different than it actually is now, but I had thoughts. So I had started outlining it. But then when a lot of the people, I'm sure they meant well, who was telling me to do part two, but when it released, I don't know where they went. I I couldn't find them. I looked high, searched high, and low. And in the middle, hey y'all, remember y'all like 20, something, 30 folk that was like you should do it. Here it go. Um, oh y'all sure y'all don't want to head to Amazon? Yeah. So I didn't release part three, and I finally did it all these years later. I I don't want to be the type of person who has a series and then just leaves people hanging. But when it can be, it can hurt the heart when you put it out there and then folk don't show up, and you wasn't gonna put it out there anyway because it was a standalone. And then so I was like, forget that, I'll never put part three. And some people read part two and realized that it was a part three. Not a lot of people didn't say anything to me, but some people did and hit me up in my DM was like, ma'am, there's something unanswered in part two. You must have a part three. And I just started telling people, yeah, you know what? I do got a part three, and I will never release it. But I I I changed my mind earlier this year. I said I didn't want to do that because I felt like the characters were talking to me and they had a story. And so I wanted to, I said, forget that. I'm just gonna go into it with positivity, create the final since I already know what the final is, and then here we are.

SPEAKER_02

Samara,

How A Standalone Became A Trilogy

SPEAKER_02

how many years had it been since part two and three released? Like, what's the gap?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I think I released part one in 2022, and then part two probably released like two years later or a year and a half, because it wasn't going to be one. I only wrote it because people kept asking. And then now here we are in 20, here we are in 2026, and that's because I it it wasn't that I was just busy or lazy, it was because literally I was I didn't want to go through that disappointment again. Because you know, some people say, hey, I just write because I want anybody to read it. No, because that's that's a lot of money and investment and time, you know. I want to write because I want to entertain people the same way I was entertained by every TV show, every song and everything. And I want to actually recoup from that as well, because that gives me a boost to keep going. You know, I don't want to be the one that just, oh, I'm doing this out of the fondness of my heart. And when I say that, I'm not saying that, oh, I'm looking to be rich from this. If it comes, of course I will accept it and I allow it from God in the universe. So I want to be clear on that. But I know I mentioned that before, and someone jumped on my TikTok and was like, uh, self-publishing isn't a quick, uh, get rich quick scheme. And I'm thinking, well, you you there's some comprehension issues with you, because I said I believe a worker should be paid for their money. That's not the same as a get rich quick scheme, ma'am. Who dropped you on the head?

SPEAKER_01

However, I love this lady.

SPEAKER_00

And I only talk like this because I was dropped on the head, you know. So when I see somebody else has been dropped, when I see somebody else drop, it's like you you because I said someone should be paid for what what they create, and you think that I'm telling people that I'm trying to get rich quick from Amazon, knowing how little bitty they pay me. And the person was like, Yeah, because I got three books, and I'm thinking, and I got about 15. Sit down and wipe your feet when you come in my house. Have a seat.

SPEAKER_02

And wipe your feet when you come in my house.

SPEAKER_00

I blocked her because I didn't have time. I'm like, nah, first off, you messy, and goodbye.

SPEAKER_02

That was like a mama mode. That was like a mama mode right there. Wipe your feet before you come up in here.

SPEAKER_00

That's what I was thinking. I didn't say it because uh when somebody comes in like that, they they don't have good comprehension skills. It's just best to just block before they even get sit down.

SPEAKER_02

Don't even worry about sitting down, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Bye-bye, because this conversation just went above your pay, great. So bye.

SPEAKER_02

But Samara, where did Janet come from? Like, who whose child are we writing about?

SPEAKER_00

Well, according to uh what is it, read with Faye, she thinks Janet is the uh devil spine and that she came from hell. So there's a few ways I can answer this. I'm not really sure which one you you would like for me to say, but you can take your pick. I say she comes from heaven, the heavens from her parents, Tremaine Moore Sr., also known as Senior and Natalie. You know, I mean, I think that's where she comes from. But uh really uh I was inspired from the show, TV show Power 50 Cent, and people didn't like the character Tariq, you know, because what he did to his father ghost. And I understood what he why he did what he did, and his motivations seem very clear to me. So I wanted to make my own type of uh what is it, story showing that parents' consequences can impact their kids. And I know a lot of people say, well, kids need to stay in their place, kids need to do this. Well, okay, but if your decisions are negatively affecting your kids, if you think they shouldn't have a thought about it or any type of feelings about it, you're living in La La Land. And that's what I wanted to show. Just as power did a great job of showing what happened. And see, a lot of times people believe that because they have their grown and they have their private parts, they should be able to do whatever they want to do with it. And who cares if it blows up their home with their kids? The kids should be seen. Don't worry about me getting hot in the drawers. You're a child, shut up. So, what I used to be in a relationship with your parents, and we see uh with your other parent, we used to have a good home, but now I'm hot in the drawers and want someone else, so you be quiet and don't you have a thought about it because I no one cares. I'm hot in the drawers. Who cares what you think is this fucking lady? Now, now when I say this, I'm not saying you I'm not encouraging folks to go around letting their little kids make all the decisions for their lives. But what I'm saying is, expect that there's one to be it's not everybody's gonna be happy and kumbaya, like Jenny's daddy wanted a kumbaya with him and his um the prostitute he was with. And Jenny, Jenny is like, you just cheated on my mama, and I found out in the worst way possible. Now you expect me to be over here holding y'all's new baby, and um, only he only tried to get her to hold the baby once, and she thought she was the baby of the family. Now she finds out this man got another whole baby that he had for months and ain't told nobody about. The mother was pregnant and he tell nobody all that time. So now it's like, hey, come on over here, Indian, smile and be nice to my new woman. It's it makes me think that that that adjustment just happens overnight. Sometimes that never gets repaired, and if it does, it takes time a lot of time. It's not just like overnight.

SPEAKER_02

And that is why I I know people probably don't agree with me, but I think the senior started this whole order of events because had you just kept it in your pain and been the pastor that you were trying to be. I'm telling these quick-ass pastors. Had you been the pastor

Writing For Readers And Fair Pay

SPEAKER_02

that you were trying to be, we would have had there Janet would have just been a video beat sin.

SPEAKER_00

And and that's where I was going with going with it. And you know, some people they do lay that blame at his feet, but a lot of people, oh Janet this, Janet, this, Janet. But do we have any proof? Like you said, that she would have gone off and done all this other scandalous stuff that she done now. Of course, she was going to be a video vixer, but that that was just her thing. But all that other stuff, how do we know that would have happened if her daddy would have just kept it in his pants?

SPEAKER_02

I really don't think we would have had the story that we had had his had her dad just and then the things that he made her do, like she already a child, but then you had her lying, like of course that affected her. That affected her mental. And her mama, like, it already runs, so it was so many different factors, but it boiled down from the dad. Like you started this whole thing. Now, granted, Janet did need a belt uh a couple times because a good pinch.

SPEAKER_00

You know what? I I I can't I can I can't argue with you there because there were a few times that Jenna was doing some stuff. It was like, ma'am, and that's why a lot of times it's funny when I post about it and Jenny says she um people say that she needs a bell to switch and stuff like that. And I tell people that I'm contacting CPS on them, you know, because they they say that kind of stuff about it. So if you get a call from CPS and they come investigate you, you know it was me. But when you ask me about it after they come to your house, I'm gonna say it wasn't, but it was.

SPEAKER_02

It was you. I ain't gonna lie, I believe in a good little a good little one too to help. Like we always say, I turned out pretty, I think I turned out pretty good.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. Yep. You you know you won't, you won't, you won't, you won't see me arguing, arguing back there with you, but about that. But when it comes to my character, Janet, though, I'm calling CPS on everybody.

SPEAKER_02

Somebody should have called CPS on her daddy. And oh girl too, to be honest, Yolanda. Because who was watching this baby like while you was out at the motel?

SPEAKER_00

But she had the baby.

SPEAKER_02

And that was another thing. Like, if you gonna cheat on your mama for this little nice church going lady, you could do it with somebody decent. I would that I I'm just thinking all of these factors played into Janet's character development. Like, not only did you stray, but look, look who I had, like what?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I see I see what you're talking about, you know, and I I I know some of Yolanda's uh backstory. I won't lie and say I know her whole backstory, because you know, some characters you know a piece of them. I'm getting better, like interviewing my characters so I can know their whole history, but I have some of her history of her backstory. So in my mind, even though she was still at the hookah hotel with the baby, it was because she didn't have like enough money to get out of the life. Now she was like done tricking because Senior was still paying her. They were actually in a real relationship, but she was still getting money from him. So, you know, in my mind, he didn't want her still being with other men, and so she was staying there, and that's why she was so mad. Like, look, you're supposed to be moving me up from out of this, and why am I still here? That's in my so Yolanda was still tricking while her and senior. Well, once they met him, like to me in my head, and this is not in the book, that once they met and got like serious, she stopped. But he was giving her money to ensure she didn't need to keep doing it. But the thing was, the money wasn't enough, you know. Now that she's taking care of a baby, she gotta pay to still live at that hotel. She ain't got enough like to move, and that's why she pops up at the church. Like, look, you've been ducking me for a few days, you have given me money and stuff, like you said, but you've been ducking me for a few days, you ain't got the place for me yet, and so now I'm popping up at your church because, like, what's going on? That's when you see her there with the confession because she's pissed in my head. I didn't say this in the story, but you know, because it's Janice POV, you know, and so uh in her head, it's like, look, okay, you ain't answering my calls. I'm calling your house, hanging up on the phone, and you ain't calling me back in a few days. So I'm about to come to your church because I bet I I bet I get a reaction out of you now. I bet you stop ducking me now.

SPEAKER_02

How did was

Janet’s Origin And The Father’s Choices

SPEAKER_02

Senior pastoring or counseling her, trying to get her from freaking? He f like how did Senior No, Senior.

SPEAKER_00

I think I I think I put like a few lines in it saying that he had a long proclivity of liking women of the night. You know, it was something that he liked. So he wasn't trying to win her over to the Lord, he was actually he that's what he liked.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, so Senior had been tricking out here on Natalie.

SPEAKER_00

He had been out here like tricking. Then he found Yolanda. He liked in my head, he liked Yolanda, and so he was like, when he found her, it was like, okay, you know, I don't feel the need to keep going from woman to woman. Now I got Natalie at the house, I love her, and I got Yolanda, and I got some strong feelings, and I'm starting to love her too, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Wait a minute, because it's been a few months, it's been a little minute since I read book one. So you mean to tell me Pastor was out here doing all of that while he was running for the pastoral position.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, running for yeah, he's running to be an assistant pastor, yeah, because he was a deacon at the church. So when you open up the scene and wrote to malevolence one, it's the day that they get to choose their new assistant pastor. Yeah, he was doing that. But you know, sometimes people can lie to themselves, like, oh, you know, and no, they got some other stuff going on. I mean, none of us are perfect, but what I'm saying is, oh, sometimes you can make a practice of doing something that you know that's not right for you. So it wasn't like he had the occasional slip-up of being at the prostitute hotel, like, oh my God, you know, this was like a kind of a habit for him. You know?

SPEAKER_02

They went over my because what now I'm gonna have to go. I feel like I need to go back since I read book three.

SPEAKER_00

Well, that part wasn't explained uh in total detail, and the reason being is because I wanted to keep it in from an innocent perspective from Janet. Because, see, she was part nine, so I wanted readers to be ignorant about a lot of things to imagine them seeing this unfold from a nine-year-old perspective. Because if I had gone deep into Yolanda's point of view, I think it would have taken the innocence away. Because you get to see what Janet is thinking and feeling when she's experiencing all this going on, you know.

SPEAKER_02

So basically, we're just supposed to be seeing this from Janet and maybe a little bit of Benji's point of view.

SPEAKER_00

We didn't get a lot of Benji's point of view, not a lot of Benji's from from Janet, because I thought, um, in a way, I thought it would kind of be funny because I know that my target audience are adults, so you know when you see what was going on with Senior and Yolanda at the hospital, you know something ain't right. But at first, Janet don't because she's naive, she's only nine, she's trying to piece together and she's starting to see stuff and like, wait a minute, this ain't working. This don't seem right, but you as an adult already knew it ain't right, and that's where I wanted to go from for it. Have the readers like, oh my god, what? But still seeing her trying to figure it all out.

SPEAKER_02

But grown folks already peaked it, and that's why that's how that's how I drew from her innocence because I'm like, okay, I like you said, I grown behind and knew what was going on, but this baby was innocent, she didn't know what was going on, but she just knew she felt it wasn't right from how the events unfolded, and that's what I was going for.

SPEAKER_00

So that's why you don't get a lot of the backstory of what why Yolanda popped up at that church that day, you know, or while a senior, I did I gave him like a line or two when they busted him, uh what he said about Yolanda and prostitutes. He did say that, but I didn't want to give it a lot of it because I think. That would have taken it away. I didn't want a head hop. I wanted it to stay right in Janet's um naive perspective.

SPEAKER_02

Oh Jesus. And then we got to see Janet grow up. Janet went from this innocent nine-year-old where life had the turned upside down, and she went into her teenage years.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. That was fun to write. Because I really wondered, like, you know how you get an understanding of a character. I at first I was nervous about writing nine-year-old Jenny because I had never, she was my first child character I've I've written, right? And so it was like I wasn't sure if I could even write from a nine-year-old perspective. But then when I pulled it off, so I'm like, whoo, okay, I did it. But then trying to see, okay, you've got this nine-year-old down, but now you have to try to figure out who she is at 18. Nine-year-old and 18, you're two different people. So it's like I had to recreate her, but still keep some of the traits from nine-year-old. But also seeing who is she now that she's 18 and she's living with all the consequences of her bad behaviors.

SPEAKER_02

How did you navigate that? Like, did you have a chart? Like you have to outline it, like how would she be, or how did the events affect that nine-year-old in her mind and stuff to go into her teenage years?

SPEAKER_00

Right. I yeah, it I I did. And that part one, I really don't think I didn't outline part one. I freestyled part one, but I think but part two, I didn't, I don't think I I did it because it was one I I freestyle most of part one, but not the whole thing. But you know, in the first half of it, yeah, but then it started a lot of moving pieces, and I started getting confused, and I was like, no, I I gotta map this out. But for part two, I had to do the same thing. I had to try to put myself in the mind of let's say if I did this terrible thing, well, how would that affect me, you know, moving forward? And so as you see, she copes with a lot of ways. If that's why you see the Alize, you know, she's hearing stuff other people can't hear, you know, and so different people have different ways of dealing with with traumatic situations. So I needed to be able to show that she wasn't just perfect after what she did, and there were consequences to that.

SPEAKER_02

And then you gave her a little support system with Danae.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and you yeah, and you know, Danae was in part one too. In part one is as well. So yeah, I needed her to have that because even the thing about it is that sometimes people can go through really harsh things, but then they can also appear like they're functioning. Okay. So I think that's where like Danae came in. To the Albert Um eye, it would look like, oh, Janet is doing well, she's about to graduate, you know, um, she's still passionate about dance, she got friends, she's dating, but Janet got demons too. So over time, you can tell that she's learned to hide some of this, and she can't share, she couldn't share her secret with it with anyone. So she had to fake it, you know, that everything was okay. But the reader would get a glimpse of it. You see her, why she keep drinking all this LAZA, you know.

SPEAKER_02

And then from my point of view, I was like, Well, she really the voices that she was hearing, she really can't tell her brother and her dad now because look how they did the mama when they well, she well, that was needed, but still, it was like an ambush. Like, brother, you supposed to be on, like it wasn't anything else you think we could have we could have held her down or something. Like, did you really? I felt betrayed for her. I felt betrayed, like you, my brother, and I feel like you went to the ops, I daddy. So now I can't tell y'all what's going on with me anyway, because y'all might do me like y'all did her, you know, and that's a good point.

SPEAKER_00

And I've never had anybody to my knowledge bring that up, but yeah, that's why she was so freaking mad at Benji in book in book one because it was like they were dealing with the mom situation themselves, you know. Like you said, why not come to her and say, hey, we can't do this, it is too much. I know you're going to be mad, but I need to tell that, and no matter what you say, I am telling him, but I need you to know first. He didn't do that, and imagine she coming from the YWCA, they turn the corner, she going super fast on her bike, and normally Benji beats her on the bike. She wondered you

Why The Story Stays In Janet’s POV

SPEAKER_00

see an ambulance in front of our house, you see our mama out here. Why you going out slow? Because Benji knows what's the play, he already knows what's going on. She don't know.

SPEAKER_02

That made me so oh, that made me so mad. Oh, I feel betrayed for her.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And you're right, she didn't feel like she could talk to a lot of people, and I won't say what she did in book one, but you know, some type of secrets, it's not safe to really tell anybody. And she felt like she had to sit on that secret for a long time.

SPEAKER_02

Good thing she sat on it for as long as she did. Well, I feel like I needed a cigarette. Right, right, right. It was just so much like Janet got the real Janet really got the short. My girl got the short end of the stick and in the whole story. Like and I know people can be like, well, she could have changed or she could have did this and that. She couldn't because of her circumstances and how everybody was around her. I I ain't gonna lie. I was rooting, I am rooting for Janet.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I feel like she could be saved. I feel like Janet could there's still there were some growing. I don't know. I feel like her circumstances, the things that happened, uh, it's senior.

SPEAKER_00

Senior started this whole thing. And see what I tell people when I'm defending her, see, I can tell you not the ops, but I have been having, you know, to be interviewing with some folks. I love them, but they're the ops, they're Jenny's ops, you know. They they they want to blame Jenny. But you know, the thing is, from what I can see, I may be a tiny bit biased, just a hitch, that she don't mess with people unless they mess with her. That's my whole thing. Yes, yes. Even when Yolanda popped up oh on their block in the car, watching their house. Jenny went to her car because she saw the woman, she knew the woman was a threat at this point. She figured something was really off. Why are you here where me and my family lay our heads at? You know, and people like, well, she should have stayed in the child's place. Okay, well, maybe she ain't like some of us who want to call the police every time something goes wrong. Some people actually handle stuff on their own, and maybe that's who Janet is.

SPEAKER_02

But how can she stay in a child's place when they kept putting her in all of these situations?

SPEAKER_00

Like they kept putting her in these positions. Thank you. I you would be so surprised how many people tell me that uh she hid in the draw, she should have stayed in the child's place. Uh, yeah, yeah. Uh-huh. And I'm like, she was she wasn't bothering that one. Uh and then if you remember the enchanted forest, the um the amusement park thing. Daddy was not bothering anybody.

SPEAKER_02

She was on the alley with her daddy, and he's like, how was she supposed to stand the child? I would have left y'all too. If I would have left y'all and called my mama, and can somebody call my mama because she needs to come and see these.

SPEAKER_00

And see, her daddy senior was lucky. It was uh 1987. They didn't have no cell phones. Now she she probably could have got a little cord or something if they had, I'm sure they probably had uh payphones in the amusement park. But her mama was at church, you know, she could have done something like that, but she still tried to cope the best way she could, you know, the hooker at the dang old um at the theme park. So she just go and try to get on rides instead of trying to find the local payphones, you know, or look, it would have been bad if they would have had the phones that, you know, the um the sales at that time, she could have took a video and all kind of stuff like that.

SPEAKER_02

And teach it to her mama, so her mama could have had um what's her name? The mother of the church. The mother of the church was was real messy. Mother Reese.

unknown

Mother Reese.

SPEAKER_02

People is messy because you loaded them up like that. You was really woman of God.

SPEAKER_00

I I hadn't even thought about that in a long time. You're right, she did do that. I think I think I think he's up to something. I'm on my and I I got the location. I'm on my way, sister, with my whole oil and my um um my rebuking juice or whatever, what is it? The whole, yeah, the whole of water and the baptism for the oil or whatever they use. Uh-huh. And then put the kids in the car. And then, and then remember Jenny was navigating from the backseat. Like, tell us which one it was. That was so how can she stay in the child's place? Y'all put her in the position to show y'all what it was. That was like do the see this time I knew you wasn't the op because you you reminded me of stuff I forgot. You reminded me of stuff I haven't. That's right. How can she stay in the child's place? You sending her to find to to um navigate you to the freaking hotel. Remember, even Benji was confused. Like, where are we going? Janet, like, how you know where we're going and how to get there? He's confused. Like, who the heck is listening to nine-year-old Janet? Because ain't nobody usually listening to her, because that was definitely the generation that I came up under. Janet in like in character years is a year older than me. So I know that time frame, and that was definitely of the time of you know, basically be heard be seen and not heard, and all this kind of stuff, and stay in a child place, you know. So even he confused, like, why are we listening to a nine-year-old on how to go find uh some hotel? And how how she been there before?

SPEAKER_02

And why is we over here? Because this don't look like a good part of town. So, how'd she know about this? Okay, and then then after the church, that's what made me mad about Benji too. Because even after the church incident that you walked in on, you still did our mama like that. Well, I wanted her to take that bike and mop his head, because boy, you saw it with your own eyes.

SPEAKER_00

He is the ops, daddy is the ops, right? Is the deaf is the ops, and that's the funny part. You know what? I wanted and and again, I wanted to preserve the innocence and do it from Janet's point of view, but I I never fully mapped out in my mind what it looked like in Benji's head when he saw it. I just know he saw it, like he saw everything, but you know, I didn't walk through like every what that was and what was going through his head and everything because I wanted Janet to be still like confused, like he's running out the building. Why are you running out the church?

SPEAKER_02

And why are you not saying nothing? Like, but we could put, like you said, we could put two and two together, but Benji was just stunned, and he was older than Janet. So if he was older than Janet and he like, no, no, then how are we thinking that this nine-year-old is supposed to process this stuff? Of course, that's gonna follow her. Like, this baby is trauma, this girl is traumatized. And mental illness, yeah, she could have she. I'm not gonna say she could have passed, but mental illness

Aging Janet From 9 To 48

SPEAKER_02

running her family.

SPEAKER_00

And if you remember, I said um there was a scene I had in um I I did I take that out the book? I think I took it out the book. I explained a little bit more of Natalie's brother coming to visit. And he had um mental illness, and I was showing him. I can't remember, I girl, I can't remember if I put that scene in. If I did put it in, it's not as detailed as I wanted it to be because I wanted to show that it was a family thing. But I remember I had a few beta readers was like, no, that's just too much detail, plus you don't see him again, you know. So it was like, don't we? Um it's sufficient just to show the mom with the mental illness. So since I had a few people saying that, I think I either I cut it totally or I cut it substantially.

SPEAKER_02

I think you cut it short. That's why I said the family, because I think he only came around like a little bit and then like they didn't see him anymore. Like something happened and then they never seen him anymore.

SPEAKER_00

And normally I do believe it's a good thing to bring people around twice, but I think the reason I didn't because like mental health was a big thing in my in my family, and so like I would see some relatives, and I would not see they would come around maybe once every few years, you know, and you could tell like it was something, you know, mentally off for this one person I'm thinking of. And but I wouldn't see this person again for like another year or two, you know? And so I think I was trying to stick with that that sometimes when people have that type of severe mental illness, you're not seeing them a lot like that. They may pop up at your house every now and again. Plus, you know, um, in the field that I work in, I even have even clients saying that about some people that have severe mental illness. It's like they may pop up or they'll call every now and again, but it's definitely not consistent. And the rest of the time, you just hoping and praying that they are wherever they at, if it's if they living on the streets or what whatever they do in life.

SPEAKER_02

And see, that's why Natalie ain't know nothing, because all she knew was church and home. She ain't really going nowhere, pop up nowhere.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. And see, and with Natalie, that now that I think about it, I think she was just coping the best way she could, you know, focusing on maybe focusing on Jesus for her kept her, kept her in her right mind, along with the medicine that she was taking, you know. And then plus, I didn't go into her background. I don't know. Maybe she felt that if not for Jesus, she would have been permanently in the mental institute.

SPEAKER_02

Cause I don't think we even got the a background, like how really her and Richard got together.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you mean Oh Han Senior?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I mean, yeah, how her and Maine got together.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, no, she didn't go into a long story. I think she said like um they end up meeting at a particular school. And then that was about it, but she didn't go into a long detail about it. I only and the only reason why I remember that is because I it was a it was a school in my actual hometown that was closed ever since I was born, like they just never tore it down. I'm hoping it's torn down by now. Uh you it was called Frable. So that's how I remember because I remember thinking, oh, they live near Frable, so I'm gonna have it that she and him met. I don't think I called it Frabel in the book, but I remember saying it, but no, it wasn't a lot of background. I actually I'm gonna tell you the truth. I was toying around with recently, is doing a backstory on them, but I need to see how things pan out with the series. You know, I don't want to jump in right now, I want to see how people receive part three, if they tell another people about it. I keep talking about part three, it's getting, you know, more readers and everything like that. Then maybe I will be like, hey, I'll give y'all a uh a backstory, but I I gotta see. I I make it.

SPEAKER_02

Because I was just wondering about were there signs that Natalie missed and she bypassed them. So that's why I was just wondering, like, I don't remember a backstory, but I was just wondering, like, were there signs already and she missed them? Oh, they're seeing it like prostitutes, or that he was, or like there was already like him, some some kind of infidelity, but she looked past it because her demeanor was kind of quiet. And then she it was like you mentioned her mom a few times, and she always told Janet that she reminded her of her mom, and it seemed like she was trying to be like the opposite of her mom, like her demeanor was like this little quiet, reserved, but Janet was like she just kept on referring to Janet, like you're so much like my mom, like right, and a part part of me was doing that when I I made sure I did it again in part three because I was toying around with do I want to do a backstory?

SPEAKER_00

You know, so that's where that came from. And then I remember I did it in part one because I also believe that uh uh the apples don't always fall far from the tree. And so uh one uh a therapist uh who was my supervisor taught me this. He said, When clients come to you and they're complaining about their kids doing this and this, he says, listen to them, have empathy, ask how they're dealing with it, because some people beating the crap out of their kids, or some people putting them in timeout, or some people crying in their room. You want to know how they deal with it, but also a very important thing you want to know is ask that person is who does this child remind you of? He said, Because parents will go on and on and on about these kids, but they have, if they really sit and think about it, they know why their kid is like this. Either it's something that's going on at that house, or this kid reminds them of their daddy, a grandma, a great grandma. This kid didn't just come out of nowhere, like, oh my god. This kid reminds usually reminds them. And I was thinking, yeah, right. But I started asking people that I let them think, who who do this is who is the kid? And he said, You can ask anything as long as you pretend to be curious. I'd be like, Who does little Johnny remind you of? And a lot of times people be like, little Johnny, just like my dang old daddy. Or, you know, and not saying that that's always a bad thing, but they've seen this pattern before in their families. So that's why I wanted to say that Janice was rambunctious and doing stuff, but one of her parents at least know they've seen something like this before in their family tree.

SPEAKER_02

But she a daddy daughter, but she act like a granny. She act like she act like a granny, but she her daddy daughter.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. That's why Natalie, you imagine you got this kid and you know they like your parents, and you see how drastically different Natalie was. So to keep on seeing Jenny doing stuff, you'd be like, Man, this is my dang old mama reincarnated, uh whatever, you know.

SPEAKER_02

Shoot, she thought you would have had an escape that and didn't come back as your daughter. And she was on Jenny hard. Oh, she was on Jenny hard.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yes, she was. It was her goal to raise her up in the way that she should go, loving the Lord and everything like that. But you know, sometimes you can go, I think you can go too far. It's like it causes a person to do a lot of sneaky stuff. Like Janet, she couldn't dance in the house, she couldn't listen to set the music in the house. So now when she goes to school or at the YWCA for the summer camp, she's doing all this kind of stuff because she can't do anything at the house, you know, or sneaking to put on um pants because she gotta wear dresses and kulaks and all that kind of stuff, or or sneaking like she can't wear earrings like this or anything in high school. So she gotta have her stuff in her book bag, like wrapped up, concealed good, so when she gets out the house, she can actually put her stuff on. Because I know we sometimes we want our kids to be certain ways and behave certain ways, but we don't look at do they have the capacity to do it at their age. Because it's it's easy possibly for an adult to say, Well, you should be okay without wearing earrings, you should be okay wearing coolas or wearing um skirts and everything, but then you're causing that person to look different from everybody else, and you're telling them that they. Need to be strong, but are you strong when you feel that you don't belong in work meetings or other social events? Are you trying to force this on your child because you're trying to wish you were that strong and now you're trying to put it on them, but you can't do it yourself? So now she looks like the odd person, and and I think that's how sometimes kids get bullied. You want to send them to the school always in the dresses and the skirts, so to make them stand out, and people like, what's wrong with you? It's a blizzard, it's winter. Why you got on a skirt? Why you got on stockings? Why you got on this? And it's the 90s. They went with the girls dress like boys mostly, you know, and it's like, why you look like that? And then you want to know why your kid got problems with other kids at the school. Well, why you sending them there looking like an oddball with a target on their back?

SPEAKER_02

And Jenny showed me the target on her back. Oh, and it's crazy because that can't that actually carried into her relationships. Like her whole from like the from now when she got to a teenager, even like in book three, like you can see like certain traits and stuff that carried over, like that stuck with her for years. That carried into her adult life.

Secrets, Betrayal, And “Child’s Place”

SPEAKER_02

All things that happened from that one little incident that Maine senior created, because that's my thing that I'm sticking to with that. He is the cause, he was the wrecking ball.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right. And you know what? And I feel like I did my my job. I'm gonna toot my own horn, as they say, because in part three, I did hear people like Janet ain't changed, Jenny Chang. Because see, I was trying to figure out how I'm gonna write Janet as this, okay. I've already jumped her from nine to 18 in book two. Now I'm jumping her to 48. That's a huge gap. And I'm like, can I still write from her? Like, who is Janet at 48? But then I had to remind myself that yes, people do change, but there's a lot of times there's certain core traits that we have that follows us no matter how old we get, you know, and at the end of the day day, Jenny's gonna be Jenny. So she's gonna love her family, she's gonna protect her secrets. She gonna go off, she gonna go off if she needs to, she gonna fight if she need to.

SPEAKER_02

I can't even say, oh Lord, they just gonna have to go and pick up book three because Janet, Janet, Janet.

SPEAKER_01

It seemed like Janet wanted to be, she wanted, she wanted to do right so bad. She did.

SPEAKER_00

But see, in book three, her husband, he blew up her life. She just living her her best life, you know. She got kids now in book three, and then here come her husband talking about uh, I've been basically talking behind your back with this deacon board in all the way in Gary, and they want me to be their pastor, so I'm moving. You can stay here if you want. I I understand, but I want you to come with me and be by my side as the first lady. Excuse me, what she had noticed for months he was acting different, but acting like nothing was going on. Then he brings her to a restaurant to drop this on her, and like, sir, how did you think she was going to respond?

SPEAKER_01

And then we're going back to the place where all of like everything happened. Why would you want to go back there?

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. He he because he felt he felt it was his calling from the Lord. Because if you remember, um, in book one, when Senior got ousted from the church in his role as assistant pastor, Richard, that that that's Danae's daddy, got got the role. Because it was him and Senior. In book one and chapter one, it was him and Senior and like somebody else running for that role. Well, Senior got the popular vote. But then after he did what he did, Richard ended up get put in that role. So it was something that he was had been doing. He had been in church a lot before everything transpired between him and Janet. So there was that part of him that was still wanted that. But maybe felt like he couldn't get it because of all that happened with Janet and the fallout of that, you know. But then fast forward to all these years and somebody reach out to him, it can seem like, oh, this is destiny. Maybe enough time has gone by. I could actually really do this and get back to who I really wanted to be.

SPEAKER_02

And Richard made oh, he made me mad, and I said he ought to have a heart attack. Because boy, I was waiting on him. Cuz put your heart. Boy, you have a heart attack. I was waiting on a heart attack to happen.

SPEAKER_00

Girl Richard took good care of himself over the years.

SPEAKER_02

He did.

SPEAKER_00

Except you know, the fun funny thing is, is that some um body uh when they were reading it very early on before I was even finished with everything, was like, maybe the character, maybe you should not do it in 2026. That way the characters aren't so old, you know, like reaching. And I was like, I I considered that, but I was like, no, because you know, um, one of the characters in my head was adamant that they found out some stuff at one particular year, and so I wanted to go with that. I'm like, no, if they do find out in this year, it is what it is, and then plus I think it pushed me as a writer to have to be able to write for older characters as well, which is a good thing because you know, people we all a whole bunch of different ages, so to be able to write for people from nine years old up into 70 something, I think is a is a good thing, and then you still had Benji and Georgina that you had to consider and factor in, and then the twins.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I had to figure out, have to plot it out in my head who are all these people because you met them when they were young, but now all of these people are older, and I'm gonna tell you, I found something for everybody to do except for Georgina's and Benji's biological kid, Dayvon. And so if you notice, I had I had put in Dayvon, uh Benji means he's in Atlanta. Yeah, that was Samara's way of saying, okay, I created this character back in like book two, but really I don't I couldn't find any purpose for him in book three. So um, why not put him he in mad school? Let's start there. And and honestly, I wanted to do something with him because I named him after the rapper King Vaughn, you know, and so I wanted to be able to do something with him, Dave Von, but it didn't feel authentic to the story, you know, so that's why I put him where he was at. But everybody else, you know, they came along.

SPEAKER_02

They did, and you did an amazing job from book one to three, it pair, even though you you did a good job, Samara.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. I know some people say that book three feels a little bit different, that maybe I don't know if maybe the pacing was a bit um faster because I know in book two and one I did a a lot of her internal thoughts. I still did internal thoughts in book three, but not maybe as much. And I think I tried to lean in a little bit more into some suspense with uh book three, where I wasn't doing that with parts two and one. You were just totally sucked in her head for all the drama. But I think I tried to have it maybe a little bit more fast-paced. But I don't know, I'd like to get your your feeling about it because it's different when you're the one riding it, because for me, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

You did give us more suspense in book three. You took us on a ride, and I don't even know in what kind of roller coaster it was. I just know it crashed. It crashed land you you summed it up. You it's a wild the fact that how many so we started this series in 2022 and we just concluded in 2026. Is this the end? Is the are we sure this is the end?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it's the yeah, it's done. If I do a prequel, it's the come the series is still done. It's nothing coming after that, and I may not do a prequel. A prequel would just be looking in the life of like what a younger Natalie maybe was like a younger Tremaine or what everything that was transpiring right before we hit that church scene, but not from Janet's perspective. From the other one, some of the other ones' perspectives. I think it could be interesting, but no, the series is actually it is complete, but that's just me playing around with what if I did something uh before? What if I showed what Yolanda's life at the hookah hotel was looking like? What Tremaine was the sweet nothings uh senior was whispering in her ear, you know, that made her cut off her clients. Jesus did Natalie have some suspicions, you know, of what was going on? But no, it's it's it's it's it's completed though. Because I don't think the yeah, the prequel is not considered part of the series, even if I did it, but it's just some thoughts. Like I said, I want to see how this lands before before I do anything because it's it it just got released um last Monday.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't realize it was yes, I did, because I had been waiting on it and I ate it up so fast. And I was waiting for today. I was waiting for today. I couldn't wait to sit down with you.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So I'm I'm happy I'm happy that I'm happy the series is over. Uh all the questions are, you know, it's it's wrapped up.

SPEAKER_02

So what's next, Samara?

SPEAKER_00

Well, what's next for me is let's see, I'm looking here. Oh, I was on a uh a live today, and somebody had um mentioned pop possibly doing well, no, I don't want to mention that. I'll talk about the events that I have coming up, and I'm looking down because I want to make sure I get it right. So in September, I'll be in Las Vegas at the Ink Love Lit Book Expo on September 19th of this year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orleans Results in Vegas. It's a free community event, and there's going to be about maybe 30 or more authors there. And I'm

Mental Health And Family Patterns

SPEAKER_00

looking forward to that. And also license to thrill where you will be. Yes, sir. I am definitely looking forward to that because it's the first of its kind. And you know what? I'm scared for all of us, really. I mean, how did the officers, the cops, the detectives allow this to happen? It's gonna be 30 of us who write thrillers, suspense, horror, who make a living of people and doing all types of scandalous, morally dark stuff to people in books, all at one place. And then unhinged hosts like yourself will be there. How is it? How is this legal in Nashville? So, yeah, that that event is what is it? October 23rd and 24. Yeah, so I'm I'm looking forward to those events. I do have my um pre-order link set up uh for the license to thrill. The other event doesn't have um a pre-order, so yeah, and I'm I'm just hope can't wait to see everybody.

SPEAKER_02

Me too. Let us know what we can follow you at on Facebook, Instagram, if you have a Twitter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so you can follow me. I I do on Facebook, I have my personal page, and it seemed like people have gravitated more to that page, so it's Samira Alexander, but I also do have Samira Alexander author page uh as well on Facebook, and then I also I'm on uh on IG at on at uh you can look at for me at um author underscore Samira Alexander, and then you can find me also on TikTok, and I believe it's the same name. So if you just type in Samira Alexander, you definitely want to find me. Yeah, author Samira Alexander on TikTok. Yep. And also, if people do want signed copies of books and things, uh Samira Alexander.com, you can get uh signed copies of my my paperback Road to Malevolence, the series, or any of my other uh dark psychological fiction books.

SPEAKER_02

Or the predator's prey.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, yeah. The predator girl, that that is a book right there that I just wish more people knew about. Uh The Predator's Prey. Yes, Malik. If you love a good uh character who might have some anti-social personality disorders, he can't stand women who want money and things from men. I mean, he can want whatever he wants, but he don't want it. They can't have no, not those kind of needs, financial needs. He can't stand the gold dig a poche lima out here struggling financially. Normally, that's not the type of person she is, but circumstances got her looking for a man with some means, and they actually come together and one of them lives. So I wish more people would read that one.

SPEAKER_02

Me too, so I can have more people to talk about it with.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It did it did about a few years ago. Um, in the what is it, black women who read thriller, uh suspense and horror. And that group, they chose it to be the book of the month about maybe over a year ago, and that did give it some more, put it in more people's eyes. And I redid the cover on it, so that's the but I I I if I would say a book that people are sleeping on in my series, it's definitely to me, it's the predator.

SPEAKER_02

I think that was my first intro to you. Really? It was I'm trying to see, was it that or was it the anthology?

SPEAKER_00

I want to say maybe it was I think I think it was silent night dark desires.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, maybe it was that anthology of dark desire.

SPEAKER_00

And then I went to the predator's craze, and then the hostage. I think that's the order because it's funny. Once I started seeing you more and we started talking a bit, I was I knew your face, but then I remember a while ago going back to looking, um, sharing silent night our desires, and I was looking at one lady real close, and I'm like, she looked like Lex. And you had, I'll never forget you had on like some black hair and it was curly, and you it was showing yourself reading the ebook. I was like, that is less because in my head, you be looking different with your hair, and I'm not gonna lie, I thought about you one time to write a character like you because I don't know you personally, but you can look you look different a lot of times. I don't know if you know this, like with your hair, you look like a different person. And I said, What if I could write somebody like this? It's like she really goes in and out of different like um communities and different cities and states doing some real scandalous stuff, and don't nobody know because all she got to do is pop on a new hairstyle, a new wig, and you ain't gonna really be able to tell. I tell you, it took me a while when um after you sharing that to realize it was you. I said, Oh my goodness. You should go back and look at that video yourself that you did on your page on TikTok. I don't know, you know how you look, but it was a black woman. I want to know I want to know if to you do it look like you because I was confused. I say, Oh, this is the same woman that's been supporting me. I thought this was somebody else that had disappeared from TikTok. You just off.

SPEAKER_02

Everybody, I get that a lot. People will walk right. I wear my hair different so much that people will walk right by me and I be like, hold up, because why you just walk by me? They feel like hey, they just be like, hey, and I'm just like, oh, that was real dry.

SPEAKER_00

Like, and they'd be like, I didn't know that was you because your hair that I'm it ain't them, so don't don't don't don't don't think you ain't loved and liked. It's you, it's you had me all confused.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. That was me with a different wig on. And actually, I had took a different that was when I went to Disney, and we had rented like this little Airbnb thing, and I had bought multiple wigs to change why.

SPEAKER_00

And see, this is why I said they shouldn't allow us all in the same room at the same time. But remember, look how many years ago that is, and I remember exactly what your hair looked like. I remember you showed them the e-book, and the your your the environment was kind of a dark environment. Because I thought about you after that, after I started seeing you more with the hair, and I ain't lying. I thought, man, I really should turn this woman into a freaking character. Yeah, you see how I remember that. Look at that. Was what two years ago? I remember you trust to be in the same room with me and 29 more people like me.

SPEAKER_02

You just never if you can recognize me, because I don't know what I'm gonna wear my hair like. I don't know what my hair look like.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that would be good too in the book. You know, the author comes in planning to find this person and do something uh crazy to them, but then the person comes in and one of them weeds and like inject them with something because they don't even know. It's like you know, there goes the author gone. Now what? Don't have me sit here about to write my next story. That would be good. I would be cut, I would be coming to plan to do something wild to you for in case the police listening. This is fiction, you know. But then I don't recognize you because you got on one of them wigs ain't seen or something. Then you end up injecting me with something that Lynette King um gave you because you know Lynette is real good about how to unalia for for fiction again in case the fans listening. So yeah, she she done put you something in the syringe and you done stuck me with it. I came there to do something to you, but then because you're in the wig.

SPEAKER_02

Your brain is really scary, Samara.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my oh, you you should see the author group that I talked with. My bra I I'm the same one. Cause how did you just come up with you just came up with a whole concept? Girl, this ain't nothing. My mind been fluent. I I I threatened the doctor and his assistant in a nice way today in front of their face by telling them about me creating a book, and I made it an extreme horror. I I came up with so many details, I told them, and it was my way of threatening them. Basically, if this procedure ain't working, because I done had a whole bunch of other procedures and wasted a whole bunch of money. So if it ain't, you're gonna end up in an extreme horror book, and I'm gonna watch you um as I stall my arm off because it was a stone in there, calcium stone. I'm gonna watch you and have you and your assistant. Uh you can't get out and force you to watch me cut my arm off because I'm tired of the pain and stuff like that. Then I'm gonna take your files from your office and go find everybody else who got calcium stone deposits in their shoulders. Then if they in pain, I'm gonna cut all their arms off too. You know, yeah. And then I'm gonna start collecting all the calcium stones that lodges in the um in the in the arm. I'm gonna collect them and maybe start eating them and stuff. So and then the doctor, the man was like, People read that? I'm like, Yeah, it's called extreme horror. Him and his assistants are like, What? And he Said, oh my goodness. I said, so yeah, I'm just like giving you a little preview of what happens if this don't work out, you know. Because I was kind of looking at him funny, because he waited until I got there to tell me he quoted me the wrong price, sir. You know, I was in the string pain, could barely move my arm and everything. You wait until you get me in the room to do the procedure to tell me you misquoted me. So already I'm feeling a way about him because I'm already vulnerable. So this is why I low-key threatened him like that. I'm not gonna do nothing crazy, but I'm just saying that was my way of letting him know I wasn't pleased with him, you know, really. Because I ain't say nothing about the money, because sir, I can barely move my arm, I'm in pain.

Book Three Suspense And The Final Wrap-Up

SPEAKER_00

Basically, whatever you told me, unless it was outrageous, it was like $50 more. Okay, we can do that, but I need you to get this stone out of my arm, so but you should have been more professional. And then he said, Oh my goodness, you should have told me about the that books and that kind of stuff you like to read beforehand. He said, Joking. I'm thinking, no, you ain't joking, because I'm almost joking with you a little bit, but yeah, it was funny. He was like, I think, and I told him about booger snatching pimple papa because I almost forgot I wrote stuff like that, and then he was like, I think my son would like the one about boogers.

SPEAKER_03

Why would you say that?

SPEAKER_02

Why would you think your son would like that?

SPEAKER_00

I that oh, oh yeah, that's good. He I don't know, maybe his son's 16. I don't know, he probably at home popping boogers and stuff, you know. So uh hopefully he looked me up and you know, well, no, that it ain't for 16 years old, but that is boogers that are not for 16 years.

SPEAKER_02

It's not oh my god. I can't even get it out.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just out here being a great citizen in these LA streets, you know.

SPEAKER_02

It's your face, Amira. Like you just like like you didn't just hit us with this insane story.

SPEAKER_00

He was bothering me.

SPEAKER_02

I just don't hear these LA streets. Being a law-abiding citizen, making the world a better place day by day, you know, light stuff, like you're not on somebody's watch list, because I can assure you you are on somebody's LBI, CIA. There probably is a task force for y'all. Like, I'm pretty sure there's a task force.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I hope they buy books again. Samaraalizander.com, FBI C I A, whoever you wanna, whoever y'all are uh, I am selling paperback books, and it comes with a sticker and a bookmark as well, and nicely wrapped by me with love and a slight of um unstable, you know, stuff, but mostly with love, though. 80 love, 20 something else, you know. That's how I wrap my books. Yeah. And I'm available for pre-order on Viventi. So if they listening, you know, at least they can buy some books, huh?

SPEAKER_01

You selling it with a smile.

SPEAKER_00

Shoot, if you want to come pick me up and put me, put me in court or something, at least let's talk about my books. Wouldn't that be horrible? Gotta defend, gotta defend my books. I'd be up there like the uh little little dirt the rapper, you know. They're talking about some of the songs he made in the videos and stuff. Imagine if they pulled out my books. I mean, you know, at least it says fiction. But even he said everything is props and everything is for entertainment, but that didn't stop them from bringing stuff up. So your copyright page don't even they don't even care about the copyright, basically, I guess. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm innocent though. That's your story, and you are sticking to it.

SPEAKER_02

Look at this face. Get this lady, get the and the fact that I'm gonna be in the room with all of y'all, Jesus.

SPEAKER_00

Look, don't don't try to get out of it. Don't try to get out of it. Don't try to get out of it.

SPEAKER_02

Let me go and pack me some multiple wigs just in case I need to switch it up.

SPEAKER_00

Like we'll know what you're gonna look like from Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We'll we'll I might need an alibi.

SPEAKER_02

I might need an alibi. That was not me. I was not there. That did was my hair like this?

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. No, we don't know at all. The venue, the venue who said yes to us. Oh goodness. I guess they don't read our genre.

SPEAKER_01

Couldn't have. Couldn't have.

SPEAKER_00

I'm trying to figure out some places to put some weapons. You know, I'm coming from I'm I'm flying. So, you know, I don't know. I mean, because I because for my own safety. Well, I got the witness protection program for the licensed to thrill event. So maybe I should be okay, but just in case not, you know, just like Janet, how she got pepper spray in the taser. I got one of that. So my boobs kind of big, so I could probably put the pepper spray on this side, the taser.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, because I didn't get the witness protection.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't get the you didn't well, you got life insurance off. Yeah. You got that? Well, then you should be all right. I mean, well, the people who know you will be all right then if you didn't get the witness protection program. So I wouldn't worry about it too much. Everybody who knows you should be all right, the people closest to you. That'd be cool. You can rest easy with that, you know. We ain't gotta be haunting anybody coming back from the gray. Oh that note. Well, you well, you didn't get the witness protection program.

SPEAKER_02

It was the people who know you can rest easy.

SPEAKER_00

I got the witness protection program.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't think I needed that because I'm the blood carpet host. Do I really need that?

SPEAKER_00

Nobody is safe, ma'am. Nobody? I like I like you, but what am I gonna do? If you're in a room with Tanisha Stewart, Kira and James, Anna J, J.I. Mason, Jenny Davis, Lynette King, Arthur Gilletta Shaver, Stelise Nick O. What I I I may want to save you. What am I gonna do? Tony LaRue, all these people, Kay Powell, who Briek Ollman. I can go on and on and on. How am I gonna help you if they want to get get after you? That's why I got the pro the protection. From what I heard, it ain't even safe already for the authors. So nobody says nobody. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I mean, it may not be too late to get it. But I mean, reach out to Tanisha, uh, King Your Mouse Dime. She's gonna be there. I would really be scared of that because she got the most beautiful smile and looks so nice, but she also taught me, showed me where to buy hair clips that had blood on it, the little knives with the blood dripping from it. She the one told me where to get those from. She got like daggers for earrings and stuff, but she looked very nice. But um, you may want to reach out to somebody who running the event to see if it's not too late. Because I like it. I want to see you. I want to see you in your next week. But I don't know if I'm gonna be able to see it if you ain't got the proper protection. I mean, we've made commercials and everything about this, you know.

SPEAKER_02

I've seen them and I was like, I don't need that. I feel like I don't need that. But now I'm I'm definitely I'm definitely um reconsidering.

SPEAKER_00

I I think you I think you should. But like I say, it may some people don't care about their life like that. They like, hey, I got uh, you know, what is that? Life insurance. I really don't care about life like that. It's okay some days, it ain't okay some days. I really don't care if I'm here or not, as long as my family good. You may be that person because I don't know you like that. That may be you, and if so, you find without without the witness protection. You you lived enough, you had enough good days, you alright. You um you don't care to rest easy. You some people like, okay, I can I can rest now. I done lived a few years, I'm cool. That may be you, I don't know. You know, I don't judge though. That's one thing I ain't gonna do. I ain't gonna judge.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

I try to practice it and stuff like that without looking.

SPEAKER_01

I was at working.

SPEAKER_00

You know, sometimes I do better than others, you know.

SPEAKER_01

All you gotta do is just sit down with a toilet oil for about an hour and a half and they start to shout you.

SPEAKER_02

It ain't just the bull. Oh my god. What it what it what did my you say when people show you who they are, believe them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you should definitely believe them. What one thing that I've shown you that I care about your safety. I've said a few times. See, you absolutely so it shows that I'm a giver, I'm caring, considering, I have a proper level of empathy.

SPEAKER_02

Did you practice that?

SPEAKER_00

I'm actually great now that I think about it. Let me pat myself on the back. Thank you, Maya, for reminding me how awesome I am.

Events, Signed Copies, And Where To Follow

SPEAKER_00

No, sometimes I can just come up. I just come up off the top. You know, I just be like, once I get the flowing, it just keep going.

SPEAKER_02

Samara police. It was a pleasure having you on today, Samara.

SPEAKER_00

And I love being here. It is such such a fun time, such a fun time.

SPEAKER_02

It was a scary good time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and don't now don't be trying to go call my parole officer after we get off here. Everything I said was for what little Dirk said for props, for um entertainment, uh, and yeah, for creativity. That's it. Don't call my parole officer. I don't need those problems.

SPEAKER_02

The voice even kind of changed a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

My parole officer said, if I said if I stay on the straight and narrow, everything should be all right with me. No more weird stuff, Miss Alexander. No more unstable stuff, Miss Alexander. And I said, Okay, I can do that. I said, look at this smell, parole officer. They said keep practicing it, but you you'll look sane eventually. So I've been trying to practice in the mirror when it ain't nobody around.

SPEAKER_02

So it is almost there.

SPEAKER_00

It's almost, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

It is almost there. Samari, you have the most amazing day.

SPEAKER_00

You too, and thank you for your support for reading Road to Malevolence, uh, the series. I really appreciate you because you know I told you I saw you reading everybody other book. I'm like, my design wishes for me, Road to Malevolence three. And you already reached out to me, reach out to me.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm trying to get them a chance to go ahead. I ain't gonna spoil it, but I'm trying to give them a chance to go ahead. This ethics series, and some of them have been spoiling it in my DM. And I'm like, hey, I ain't to that part yet.

SPEAKER_00

But and that's why I'm trying not to spoil uh roach malevolence, even though it's been out for years, because you know, I'm uh I got an assistant now who's helping to revive new interests, so I've got a lot of new readers on parts one and two, so I don't want them to be like, oh my goodness, you told this and this, and they still read it. Yeah, so yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm giving them a chance.

SPEAKER_02

They got to about midweek next week. It's about Thursday, maybe Thursday. I'm keeping up to about maybe Thursday, because this one this will actually drop. Anna J drops on Tuesday, and then this will drop the following Tuesday. So I may give them to two, they got two Tuesdays to catch up, and then we're gonna talk about it because Jenny, we got to talk about Jenny.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, as you know, as long as we have it like um, you know, something if you want to meet up again or whatever, whatever, or do you doing any videos of your own, as long as we got like spoiler, you know, this will be spoilers, a spoiler alert interview or something like that. Then whoever comes in, that's on them. I used to see that from um shout out to Author Masterpiece. Um, she used to do uh author's masterpiece. She used to do a lot of Facebook Lives a few years ago, and she would do that. Like they would come in and she would tell people it would be tight. I think she would title it um basically, this is a spoiler for this particular book. If you've not read it, don't come in here. And she would say it periodically throughout. That way, people coming in weren't confused. Like, hey ma'am, this is spoilerless. This is spoilers.

SPEAKER_02

So people I think I did that for one of my videos. Oh, I did do that for rhythms blues. It was like mild spoilers, but I made sure I put that. Like, if you haven't read this book, don't watch this video, save it and come back. And then if you are still watching at this point, but yeah, and it still wasn't big spoilers.

SPEAKER_00

I'm all open for that, you know, as long as it's if it's titled like that and people are already, you know, it's stated up just a few times.

SPEAKER_02

They got two Tuesdays before we start to go in, and then that's fine because I think people do.

SPEAKER_00

I was just on a um on a live today, and you know, and people were mentioning things, and even the podcaster wanted to mention, and I said the same thing. If we come back and we have already have the expectation that it's a spoiler, then invite people. I think some people would love to come and and um talk about what's been revealed.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I think that would be nice. I'm gonna get back with you to see we can we can bring the ops on

Wigs, Dark Minds, And Witness Protection

SPEAKER_02

and we can debate how because it's not Jenny, it's it's it's Richard. It's not Richard, it's senior. It's mine, it's mine senior.

SPEAKER_00

Like I got I got a few ops. So if you if you were to do that, you you know who to contact, but I can I can definitely tell you who the ops are, baby, because I went to I was arguing at least for an hour and a half today about my Janet today already. So it's funny how the world works, you know. I come in with uh with the op who is also a supporter, bless her heart. Then I come in with somebody who actually understands Janet, the complexities of Miss Janet more into see.

SPEAKER_02

Look how you ended today.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Talking about my angel, the child of the law.

SPEAKER_02

I wouldn't go that far.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That's a little much yeah, you're pushing it, you're pushing it now.

SPEAKER_00

Right, all right.

SPEAKER_02

All righty, until next time, Tamara.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you so much. I appreciate you, and I hope you have the uh a great day and go ahead and get that uh witness protection again. Uh but if you had enough of life, you you ain't gotta get it. But it you know, don't say I didn't warn you.

SPEAKER_02

Don't say you didn't warn me.

SPEAKER_00

Right. But thank you, and you enjoy the rest of your day. I appreciate you.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_01

Bye bye, bye bye.
