Quick and Easy Non-Yeast Bread Recipe
Perfect for sandwiches, dinner, or toasts – this bread is ready in just about an hour!
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
⅓ cup sugar (or allulose for a low-sugar option) – optional
Pinch of salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons melted butter (cooled)
1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup whole milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice as a substitute)
Optional Add-Ins:
Currants, raisins, or seeds for flavor and texture
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar (or allulose), and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
Prepare Wet Ingredients:
Melt the butter and let it cool.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk (or prepared substitute).
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Add the melted butter.
Stir gently with a dough mixer or a wooden spoon until a rough dough forms.
Shape the Dough:
Lightly flour your work surface and hands. Transfer the dough and gently shape it into a rough ball. If desired, mix in your favorite add-ins like seeds or dried fruit at this stage.
Prepare the Pan:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the dough ball on the sheet. No slashing is needed, but you can do so for decoration if you like.
Bake the Bread:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 210°F (99°C) on an instant-read thermometer. Alternatively, tap the bottom of the loaf; it should sound hollow.
Cool and Slice:
Let the bread cool completely before slicing to avoid crumbling.
Notes:
This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
Great for sandwiches, toast, or as a quick side with soup or salad.
