Ana McCracken shares her journey of writing a memoir about meeting her birth mother on the day she died in 1999. Despite several drafts, she struggled to complete a final version and decided to enroll in a creative writing program for guidance and structure.

In 2017, McCracken moved back to Ames from San Francisco and appreciated the supportive environment of her community while working towards her goal in the unique, three-year program.
