IDP Stock Market: Week 12
We start Week 12 this week, and the fantasy playoffs are just around the corner. By now, you should have a firm grasp on where your team(s) stand and what the biggest needs are. Even if you are not a contender, there is still a lot of work to be done. Each week, I will bring you my IDP Stock Market, which suggests which players you should start or invest in, and which ones you should sit out or liquidate. This week, I dug deeper into some stocks you should consider investing in for more advanced types of leagues. Regardless of the type of IDP format you use, I am here to guide you through the process. Let's dive right into some investments and three liquidations that can help your season get off to a strong start.
Investments
Evan Williams, SAF, Green Bay Packers
In year two, we have seen a huge jump for Green Bay Packers safety Evan Williams! He showed flashes of his potential as a rookie, but now in a starting role, he has really blossomed into a viable fantasy option. Williams has started nine of the ten games played this season, having played 606 defensive snaps (91%) & 85 special teams snaps (34%) with totals of 67 total tackles (6.7 per game), 30 solo stops, for a 44.7% solo rate, with three TFLs, two interceptions, three PBUs, and one fumble recovery. He has recorded seven or more tackles in six of the last seven games for an 8.83 average over that span. Eight plus tackles per game at the safety position is gold, so go grab him up wherever you can. Williams has also cut his missed tackle rate down from 10.9% as a rookie to 6.9% this year, which further shows his improvement. He’s a must-roster and must-start option for your IDP portfolios.
Jaelan Phillips, OLB, Philadelphia Eagles
Sometimes a player just needs to have a change of scenery to boost his value, and for me, that’s just what OLB Jaelan Phillips needed. He joined the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade from the Miami Dolphins, and the early returns are huge! In his first two games with the Eagles, he has recorded 11 total tackles (5.5 per game), six solo stops, for a 54.5% solo rate with four QB hits, two TFLs, one sack, and one fumble recovery. The immediate impact of the trade has been the uptick in tackles and the lower missed tackle rate. Not to mention, he goes to a more talented overall team. This is music to fantasy managers' ears. Phillips is going to be a vital piece for the Eagles down the backend of this season and beyond. Now is the time to make the investment in Phillips for your IDP portfolios.
Cole Bishop, SAF, Buffalo Bills
I am a little late getting this week’s IDP Stock Market out this week, and my next investment, SAF Cole Bishop of the Buffalo Bills, has already played this week, but that doesn’t matter, as he’s a fantasy investment you should be making. This is year two for Bishop, and he’s been nothing short of spectacular for the Bills. After years of having Jordan Poyer & Micah Hyde as starters at safety, Bishop is the new blood they have needed. Bishop has recorded five or more tackles in nine of his 11 starts and has six plus tackles in each of the last six games (a 6.66 per game average). Like Williams above, Bishop is the new blood for a team that was veteran-laden, and fantasy managers need to take notice. I have a ton of shares of Bishop, and I’m so glad that I followed my draft insight and kept him on my team. It’s not too late for you to make an investment in him and enjoy the rewards for your fantasy teams.
Bonus Investment
Nick Martin, LB, San Francisco 49ers
Here is an investment for your IDP portfolios that requires patience, but could yield a great return for you at some point. San Francisco is spoiled with riches, especially at the linebacker position, but Nick Martin is a deep fantasy league option to have. The 49ers have shown they can produce great fantasy options at the position and have several great options, which has limited Martin to this point, but the rookie showed his potential last week when he played only 14 defensive snaps and recorded seven total tackles, with five being solos. Again, there is a bit of a log jam at LB in San Francisco, but Martin is a cheap investment I am making for the future, and so should you.
Liquidations
Yaya Diaby, OLB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Here is a stock that is playing 75% of the defensive snaps for his team, but the production isn’t matching that snap share. Tampa Bay Buccaneers OLB Yaya Diaby is a stock that I am looking to liquidate from my IPD Portfolios everywhere that I can, and I believe that you should as well. He only has four sacks on the season, and his 12.1% missed tackle rate is over double what it (5.3%) was last season. Diaby showed a lot of promise in his rookie season, but an increased role hasn’t translated to better production. He had 7½ sacks as a rookie but has just 8½ sacks in the next 27 starts. The QB hits (30) and pressures (47) have been there, but not the sack improvement. For me I suggest packaging him in any trades that you make and see what the return is. There are better short and long-term options that can be had and help your IDP portfolios.
Marques Sigle, SAF, San Francisco 49ers
Safety Marques Sigle for the San Francisco 49ers was a fantasy manager's gold at the end of the rainbow, found early in this season. However, the return of injured players has killed his value over the past few weeks. I won’t say he’s a complete sell, if you can stash him on your taxi squads, but his immediate value has plummeted. Sigle has gone from 39 total tackles in the first five weeks of the season to nine over the past four. That’s a drop from 7.8 per game to 2.5, and for fantasy purposes, you can’t have that. Again, I think there is some long-term value, but in shallow leagues you can’t rely on that. I like the player and the team fit, but Sigle needs to be a starter to retain a fantasy value, and right now, he’s not getting it.
